Where do I begin? My husband and I were in need of a vehicle. We were on our way to the Honda dealership but we stopped by John Johnson Select Used Cars. Tony Moretti greeted us in the parking lot as we were looking at a Jeep Cherokee. We decided to buy it and were informed the vehicle had an oil change and was maintenanced. When we test drove the car, I noticed only one key. I inquired about the second and Tony said that it was probably available but they wouldn't have it until the plates came in. He told us if they didn't, they would cut us a new one. Ok, no problem! Tony completed the lease agreement at their used lot and fortunately gave me a signed copy. He informed us of the Powertrain Warranty which was to be included. I'm glad he wrote it down on the lease! They did not have the ability to process the paperwork at their location so he drove us up to Johnson Dodge. At JD, they told us they couldn't get us in our price range so we increased our down payment as much as we could but it still wasn't enough to get us within budget. Strange, but it wasn't too bad, so be it. They had us sign off on the lease through a digital pad so the numbers weren't visible for us to see but the only change made from point A to point B was the increase in the down payment. When we left the lot, I noticed the maintenance message said the car needed an oil change. Maybe they forgot to reset the message? Fast forward two weeks. We received our first statement. I noticed the principal balance seemed rather high considering our down payment was a third of the cost. This prompted me to pull the paperwork from the dealership. To our surprise, they tacked on $3000 for the Powertrain Warranty!! What the...?! I immediately call them to find out the story. I spoke to Tom, who told me that the lender required us to purchase the warranty in order to approve us for the loan. He also claimed they wanted to charge an 8% interest rate, and in order to get a better rate, we had to purchase the warranty. That didn't make any sense so of course I confirm that information with the lender, which to no surprise, ended up being a total lie. If it was valid, why would they not have said something sooner? We called them out on it and faught tooth and nail to get them to fix the issue. They finally agreed to cut a check and pay down the balance but it would take a few weeks. Now I'm paying interest on the $3000! Finally, when the plates came in, we inquired about the key again. They told us there wasn't a second key and that we would have to pay $300 for it! Seriously??!! Not to mention, during the battle we kept addressing the oil change situation and they wouldn't even acknowledge it. Of course this was the least of my concerns. Since they were unwilling to help, I made a call to John Johnson himself to fill him in on our experience. Fortunately, he made it right. I went back in and they drew up a new loan, putting us back into our initial price range, and cut me the second key I was promised. At this point, I asked the girl in the service department if an oil change had ever been done to the car. She looked it up in the system and confirmed it did NOT. So I asked her if they did oil changes to the used cars. Her response was yes. So I asked if mine would be done too. She told me they have a coupon for a $20 oil change!! Seriously?!?! I'll go down the road and spend $40 for an oil change out of principle. So my advice to anyone reading this, go to the Honda dealership. PS I should mention they bribe people for reviews... hence all the "good" ratings. Don't be fooled. I was offered $50 to write a favorable review. Glad I waited. read more

Buyer Beware! John Johnson Select's service department supposedly takes every used vehicle they sell and does a multi-point inspection. Beware that inspection is not as thorough as you'd hope. Our family found a 2015 Honda CR-V, through CarGuru's, there. We flew into NJ to take delivery of the car, and the car wouldn't start. After working with it, they assured us it was the battery and an aftermarket alarm that was removed. 48 hours later, the car's starter was dead. Even though the problem happened at the dealership, they "assured" us it was fixed and in a roadworthy condition. It obviously was not. When I sent the repair bill to them, they basically told me anything that happens when you drive the car off the lot is not their problem. We are now out hundreds of additional dollars. I highly recommend you find another dealership as John Johnson Select is not ethically sound. read more

Horrible place they lie to your face thinking I'm gullible telling me false reports about my trade in car.... but when I did my own carfax check it came up totally different from what they said and that's cause they were trying to low ball me meanwhile they're telling me they're only making $500 on these cars ??? Really dude ?? You wouldn't still be in business if that was the case so why even bother lying ??? If I had been dumb enough to take the price they wanted to give me for my trade guaranteed they'd sell it for double and then lie to the next buyer and claim they're only making $500 on the vehicle and then you wonder why people walk out !!! I saw a used Durango on a Saturday afternoon that I just had to test drive. We were fortunate enough to have Tony Moretti as our salesman...an absolute pleasure! NEVER have I bought a car where there was NO PRESSURE..THIS was the time! Tony is very easy going and customer satisfaction is his #1! After I posted may last review, I got a email from higher up by the name of Scott. He said he will throw in free 2 years of oil changes and wanted my service. I decided to give them one more chance. Scott said all the right things but it has been almost a month and haven't gotten much communication by him. He would email me and tell me he will call me and I never receive a call. I've been the one constantly reaching out and not getting any results. I called and left a message today (he said he is working all day) at 10:30am and left a voicemail. And again no response. I'm done with this company and they have made my car search the worst. Back to square one searching on my own. read more

Beware! Beware! Beware! Dishonest! Very bad experience. Based on the various reviews I went in with my eyes wide open. My granddaughter's car was rear ended and totaled. She and I found a 2013 Hyundai Sonata, silver, 121,333 miles (DO NOT PURCHASE) at Johnson. Test drove it, made an appointment to go back the next day in order to take it to our mechanic for an inspection. As I read Christina C.'s review being lied to as to something as simple as an oil change, I asked more than once and was reassured the oil change was done (it was me testing their honesty). Well, upon our mechanic of 10+ years inspecting the car, not only was the oil change not done, it needed brakes, rotors, air cabin filter, rear tire, etc., etc., etc. (it was the best $53 ever spent!). I was given a printout listing needed repairs and the cost...$962! Needless to say, I was extremely unhappy. Didn't the dealership understand what a mechanical inspection encompasses? Al, the Johnson used car lot manager, was extremely obnoxious when I said I was not happy with the result of the inspection. I showed him the printout from my mechanic ("He's just trying to make money".). A mechanic our family has worked with for years, first time dealing with Johnson, which one did I trust??? Decided to walk away. All of a sudden, Al was subtracting the $962 from the $5,995 if I purchased the Sonata. All of it gave me an unsettling feeling. I think it would have been more cost advantageous for Johnson Dodge to complete the repairs, put a road worthy car on the road and boost their reputation. FYI: Al ultimately admitted the oil change was not done! How simple and cheap for Johnson to do? Tony Moretti and I talked over the phone several times prior to my purchase. He was very friendly from the start. The car needs more work than I originally thought and the transmission is skipping. We negotiated the difference of the expenses I have incurred. The brakes were covered under a recall. Overall the experience was an easy process.
