We stayed at Country Inn which was the onsite lodge of Jiminy Peak that offers ski in and out to their ski slopes. This restaurant is located on the 3rd floor of the Inn that has a nice view to the mountain. We ordered take out on a sunday night and was told around 30 min which was accurate. When I came back to pick up, I had to wait a couple more min along with a few others. While I was waiting, a man walked to the hostess complaining that its been 15 minute and no one came to take his beverage or dinner orders. We had the large Caesar salad without a lot of dressing, the kids marinara pasta portion was decent and the sauce taste like its out of a can. The pricing overall was on the high side and the food mediocre. read more

This is a great restaurant and brewery (they no longer brew beers on premises though) that gets pretty crowded during lunchtime on weekends. We got here around 12:30pm and beat the rush and we were very happy to get a booth by the window to look out at the snowy mountain. The chili bowl was delicious and we ordered additional jalapeños, diced onions, and a bowl of tortilla chips to kick it up a notch. Very cozy and lively atmosphere and the staff was very friendly. Definitely recommend this restaurant and avoid the massive crowds at the main JJ's Lodge. read more

This restaurant located in the beautiful Berkshires is pretty hidden, unless you're lodging at the Jiminy Peak Mountain Resort, with John Harvard's being one of the many restaurants available during your stay. We both opted for chicken sandwiches. His was simple - cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion. Hers was an odd pairing - caramelized onions, bacon, cheese, tomato, and...pesto? Yes, pesto. It was delicious, although the amount given was not very great and more had to be requested. The chicken was juicy, the brioche bun generously toasted, and the french fries perfectly salted. Service was great, we were perfectly tended to. Back to the dessert - the brownie was moist and chocolatey, the ice cream rich. All in all, the perfect item to satisfy that after-dinner sweet tooth. read more

It's a huge dining room, and the servers do their best. And it's pub food in a ski resort with a captive audience, so you have to lower your expectations. And yet. The tuna we added to a salad was cooked until it was the color of coal, ehh, it happens. But we asked for a do-over and by the time it came out again, the rest of the party was already done eating. Plus the charge was $29 for four ounces of tasteless tuna on top of some lettuce, which is absurd even for a ski resort. (No adjustment was made to the tab.) Let's see if I can end on a high note. Stopped in here while skiing at Jiminy Peak. The plus is that it has table service and not as crowded as the other food locations on the mountain. I liked that we were able to relax and the prices are comparable to the other locations, so that makes it a four. What drops my rating to a three is the place is understaffed and it took us about 45 minutes to get food. Overall, I like the food here and the fact they have a kids' menu. read more

I came here a couple of times 5-8 years ago and didn't love it, but this experience was so much better. We did sit at the bar as there was no hostess to seat us and we were ready for food the minute we arrived, but the bartender was also the manager and he was very helpful! He made great recommendations (and great drinks), he even suggested a meal that he said was his recipe, and my guy really enjoyed it. Next time I'm staying across the street at Vacation Village, I'll definitely come back for a meal here, and this is actually the closest restaurant to the resort. On a night you don't feel like driving 10-30 miles for dinner, give this place a shot! Oh, I'd definitely recommend the Peach Blueberry Crisp, it was delicious! read more

This is a very decent restaurant inside of the Jiminy Peak resort. It is located in what appears to be the main building. The staff is super friendly and the place is very clean. We had: - Bavarian Pretzel with Mustard & Cheese - very good - Nachos - very good - Gloucester Pot - Fish in a white wine sauce - delicious - Mediterranean Salad - good but the chipotle hummus was a bit much - Burger - tasty - Noodles with butter - good but then again, very hard to screw up. Food is awful. I would be curious to know what kind of cooking actually goes on in their kitchen. My $20 "rock - something" shrimp scampi was heavy on the oil and low on the flavor, nothing more than greasy pasta and frozen shrimp. $18 Chicken alfredo - was cubed boiled chicken in a watery sauce and zero flavor. Kids tenders were frozen questionable chicken with cold fries and broccoli that made them immediately use the potty. Felt like it was just all reheated over processed bad food and when you actually need food to fuel your day - this option was a huge let down. Strive to do better or charge waaay way waaaaay less. *plus - brownie sundae for kids was a big hit. Okay, that is something positive. Oh! and the nice man playing music. Will not be returning. 2 stars because we had good service and the beer was good. The food was terrible. We went here in the off season, so it was not crowded. Sue was our waitress and provided excellent service. We ordered nachos was an appetizer and the cheese was worse than cheese wiz, I don't know what it was, but it wasn't good. My husband got a burger and said the mashed potatoes tasted like they were from the day before. I didn't believe it until I tasted it, but there is no chance those were mashed potatoes that were made than night. Yuk. Grilled cheese was covered in oil or something and a little burned. Not sure how you can mess up a grill cheese but they managed to nail it. If you have the opportunity to go somewhere else, do yourself a favor and eat somewhere else. read more

Drove back from Albany to have dinner here. Their website states a spicy turkey burger. Get to the restaurant. Open the menu. And guess what? NO TURKEY BURGER! Asked the server about it. "Oh! That's our winter menu. The restaurant had no control of the website. It's July 28th! Spoke to the manager and was told, Jiminy Peak controls the website and they have tried for a long time to update the website-but to no avail. Since I do not eat beef, pork, veal .... Worst service I've ever had. Ate here 2 nights in a row as it was the only thing open and near. The first night i tried calling. No one answers. Walk over and wait for a hostess for 5 minutes. She seats us. Takes 15 min for our server to greet us. Then we order drinks. 20 minutes to get them. No water glasses. After ordering, our food took 50 minutes to come. NEVER order the tuna. The next night was an exact copy of the first night, but there were about 6 tables eating in the whole restaurant and service was just as bad. 15 min to greet us. 20 for drinks. And this time food came out a few minutes after the drinks!!!!! 2 stars cause the Caesar salad is one of the best I've ever had. This is the closest place to Vacation Village to eat, so why not try here?! It's got good reviews and is a part of Jiminy Peak. Nice massive parking lot to park your fly ride in as you head inside to navigate your way up to the 3rd floor where the restaurant is. We sat at the bar where Mark took EXCELLENT care of us. He's the manager and had been there over 10 years so he was full of wisdom. I started off with a beer flight to get things going, 7 lil' beers for $9.99. Why not?! The wide open spaces of the dining room are very welcoming and the wood paneling/flooring surrounding you create a rustic feel, perfect for being in a lodge. So upon talking to Mark he informed me that he was the creator of one of the items on the menu, the Cold Creek Trout which is fresh trout, silvered almonds, brown butter, fingerling potatoes and fresh vegetables. DELICIOUS. I can see why Mark's dish made it on the menu! He talked us into dessert since I was still hungry from the light seafood dish. We got the "healthiest" dessert there was, the fruit crisp. Lol. That too, was delicious. I believe there were peaches... in it... maybe? I forget, but it was good! I'll be back! read more

Funny, because i've been to the John Harvards on Long Island and liked it. I don't even know if I reviewed it, it wasn't great, wasn't bad...just average. That being said, after my horrible experience at Old Forge on my most recent trip to Jiminy Peak the wife and i decided to stick to what we thought would be a sure thing...some place we've been to on LI, and on the mountain. Ok well I can't really review the place because we walked in, and got to the hostess station only to find out that the bathrooms were down two flights of stairs. Strike one. We were seated (which took almost five full minutes of the hostess asking whether I wanted a booth or a table) a few minutes later, and waited...and waited...and waited...while at least half a dozen times waitress' passed by our table without so much to even offer us a glass of water. I also witnessed half a dozen girls just talking by the hostess booth while a table next to us actually had to go up and give the money to the server because they just never came to the table. So almost 20 minutes after being seated, we got up and left. I'd never go back, to this one at least. Horrible service=horrible management= poor experience and even worse food from my experience. Kind of sad for a place in such a hot location. read more

This is a generous review. I just don't like giving negative reviews. We got there about an hour before closing. It was pretty full but was given the impression there were no available tables. It took a long time for a server to acknowledge us. We started with soup. It took almost 15 minutes to get it. Other tables whose food came earlier were seated after us. We finished the soup but had already given our dinner order. After an unreasonable wait, I inquired. Funny how when you inquire, it comes right out. Remember others got their food earlier. You kinda know it's going to be a bad night when the upside of the hamburger bun was burnt. Clearly, our food was sitting for a while. The fries were warm at best. Oh, I forgot the bun was in the toaster. The food was ok. nothing to entice a repeat performance. I only tipped 20%. Had the worst experience ever. Had a reservation, we were seated at our table and were totally ignored by everyone in the restaurant for over 30 minutes. Not like the wait staff didn't see us. They walked past our table at least 20 times. At that point the kitchen was closed. No excuse. Our first evening dinner in the Berkshires, and we were sick of driving. Since almost everything is at least ten miles away from everything else in this picturesque region, that limited our options somewhat. There were five restaurants to choose from, and we started with this one. We usually sit at the bar to eat, and it was a crowded night for families in the restaurant, which left plenty of open stools. We parked it next to a crowd of confusing French people, which was awesome. Our bartender, while friendly, made it clear he was not to be consulted on any matter beyond beers, wines and liquors. As he very abruptly stated: "I don't know anything. I come here, I work, and I go home." So much for local flavor. Our drinks were pretty standard. He was a little skimpy on the fresh blueberries in the fresh blueberry ale, but happy to give me extras. I love blueberry beer. Call me a sissy if you want, but I loves the stuff. Anyway. They do make good beers at JHB. The atmosphere is the same as at the shop in Boston, but it works. I kind of like it, even if it is corporate-mandated. I ordered something called "Crab Stuffed Seafood" which would have been more aptly titled: "Scallops Covered With a Pile of Wet Breadcrumbs Containing Some Other Seafood Substance of Dubious Provenance". It comes with a side of tasteless white rice still in the shape of the ice cream scoop that dug it out of the bucket. Yay. The better choice was a large mixed green salad topped with fresh sea scallops. Crisp and inviting with a piquant dressing that complemented the seafood nicely. I lose. Ah well. I do love their beers, and it's a pretty cozy place to drink several. So I won't go hatin' on it. read more

Do I review a chain restaurant (and I don't mean the fast food ilk) independently or in comparison to meals at the other locations? By choosing the former, this brewery gets 4 stars; if the latter, only 3 stars. And here's why: As the other Yelper suggests, John Harvard's used to manage a mere two locations in Massachusetts: one in Harvard Square and the other in Shopper's World in Natick. A few years ago, the company took over an under-performing restaurant at the base of the Jiminy Peak ski resort. Maybe it's still discovering itself. I don't know, but it doesn't have the same charm and character as the other Boston-centric locations. I ate here with a party of 16. The meals were okay, nothing too special, although I must give kudos to the chef for their soup of the day: a creamy milk-based bisque with hints of apple, potato, and bacon. The apple did it for me and my mouth was an orgasm of fruity sensations. I shared the bisque with others at the table and we all enjoyed it wholeheartedly. Definitely go to John Harvard's brewhouse for the drinks. The beers are very good and the bartenders also know how to concoct some tasty cocktails. There's a small wine list. The food is so-so but like the apple bisque, you may be pleasantly surprised. The service is top-notch. As for the other Yelper's thoughts of too many tourists, bring your camera and take pictures of people eating. read more

John Harvard's in Harvard Square is good, with a huge menu. John Harvard's in Hancock MA is mediocre, with a limited menu and no butterscotch bread pudding on the dessert menu. Plus, it's primarily used as a brunch for time share companies to host their guests / victims. We went for two meals: Dinner and brunch (free with the time share pitch). The dinner was good, and the brunch was pretty good. The waitstaff was nice and attentive, but this John Harvard's just lacked the awesomeness of the other John Harvard's. It felt too clean, too touristy (hah, like the other JH ISN"T touristy).... Too "mom and pops". read more

I am updating this from one star to three stars. I maintain my observation that this place definitely acts like the monopoly that they are. There are no options if you are staying at the country inn. We have to make reservations days in advance. The food continues to be average. However, today there was some promise. Our waitress was very friendly and the food came quickly. I literally NEVER EVER write a Yelp review. Ever. This is my first one. That's how strongly I feel about this place. I came here on a Sunday night with my family. We walked in at 6:15 pm absolutely starving. We did not get seated for ten minutes. There was no one there. This should have been our first sign. We finally got seated and the waiter came over with bread which was great. There were about 11 tables and only 2 waiters. It took us 20 minutes to get our drinks and we hadn't even had a chance to place an appetizer order. Finally we place our order and get our first round of drinks. We had to flag the waiter down for a second round, he would walk right by our table and pointedly ignore us. We did not get our second round until well after the dinner came. Our dinner came and so did the appetizer... at the same time. The waitress said "well they were baking in the oven". We said "well this was an appetizer, this is supposed to come out before the meal". Keep in mind it is 7:50 at this point and we have been here almost 2 HOURS!!! Instead of apologizing and giving us the appetizer for free they make excuses. They take it off the bill but they did not even give them to us, they took them in the back to throw them out. All the burgers were medium rare when ordered medium well. The meal was OK but we waited 2 hours and they threw the appetizer out in our face! To top it all off they overcharged us for wine. The wine we ordered was specifically $9/glass and they charged us $12/glass. We had 4. It wasn't even worth arguing at that point. We just needed to get out of there. I have never been to a restaurant with worse service. I wish I could give 0 stars. DO NOT GO HERE!!!! read more

Five of us decided to head up to John Harvard's Brew House for dinner tonight. For everyone it was our first time there. I had checked opentable.com for available reservation times, but it was booked from 5pm on. We decided to go up anyway and take our chances. When we got there, sure enough they said it was full, but the bar was empty and we were able to sit there. The bar is very comfortable with very personable bartenders. The bar top is copper, which is very cool. The shape of the bar made it very easy for all 5 of us to chat, so nothing was lost by not getting a table. The strange thing was that for the entire time we were there (1 1/2 hours) they kept many tables empty. Understandable that they had reservations, but it seems like they had a lot of lost opportunity to seat people with enough time to still fill the reservation. I don't recommend showing up without reservations if this is a regular practice here (unless you don't mind the bar). I tried two of the house brews which were excellent. I had the "6 ft. Blonde" and a something or other "White" (can't recall the full name). I had not had a John Harvard brew up until tonight, but now I'm a fan. While at the bar I learned they have a 6 beer sampler for around $8. I wish I had seen this as I would have done that instead ... next time. The menu selection was excellent. It was not over whelming, but had a good variety. I ended up going with the Smoked Gouda and Chorizo Mac and Cheese. What a great dish for a winter night in the Berkshires. I will have to go back to try the Rosemary Chicken and the Buffalo Mac and Cheese. Everyone else went with the half pound brew burger. The burger was cooked to order, and each person said it was done perfectly. We could see the lights coming off the trails of Jiminy Peak, but there was no line of sight to the mountain from the bar. Next trip up, we'll make reservations for a window seat overlooking the mountain. With it being right in the main lodge of the ski resort, I would have thought there would have been children running all over the place and a little loud. This was not the case though, it was quiet and very relaxing. If you can get a spot by a window, it might be a good place for a date. read more

Stopped in here for dinner and to watch a baseball game while on a weekend trip to the Berkshires. We sat at the bar, and our waitress was great - very attentive and chatty. Both of us ordered burgers, which were good; nothing to write home about, just typical pub burgers, but they definitely hit the spot after driving all day! They had all of their own brews on tap, and we tried four of them: their octoberfest, blueberry, amber ale, and hefeweizen, all of which were pretty good. For dessert we tried the brownie sundae, which was tasty but nothing too special, and the "campfire sundae" which was actually reallllly good (vanilla ice cream covered in graham crackers, with whipped cream, hot fudge, and raspberry sauce, and roasted marshmellows on the side). Nothing particulary special about John Harvard's, just your typical pub food, but definitely a place where you can get a solid meal. read more
