Chicken satay was barely room temperature. Peanut sauce was acceptable. Ramen broth was warm. When I asked for it to be heated, the chef screamed that the broth was boiling when he put it in the bowl. The waitress then told me the broth was hot but the add ins were frozen or just taken from the refrigerator and that was how they make ramen. Go to Thistle and Mirth if you like frozen vegetables and cool broth or consider that acceptable "ramen". So, just came here for the first time on Friday night on a date. Arrived early, around 7ish. There were very few people there. We ordered drinks and food. Everything was perfect. Great music, great atmosphere good service and all staff were tremendously friendly. As the night went on, it got a little busier but everyone seemed to be genuinely enjoying themselves! I exclusively come here for drinks when I'm in Pittsfield. The beer selection is exciting. There's so much to choose from and a rotating tap to look forward to. Bartenders have that blase, chilled out homie vibe and make it work. Wanna sample a beer before you get a pint? Of course, why not try them all? The artwork is dope. The walls are pretty much all chalkboard and the artist has some insane talent. So I came out in particular tonight to try their ramen night and guess what, vegan ramen was on the menu. Big ups to the chef. It was delicious, fresh whole foods and a few different types of mushrooms. Lots of flavor. A little less sesame next time tho would be perfect. Food here is a new thing so be sure to check in and see what's on their rotating menu! I heard tacos next week. At times it can become a bit cramped and you might have to deal with that person we've all seen who had one too many and forgot what personal space was. The evening we went there was no beer, and the hostess was folding napkins giving the impression that the staff showed up about 5 minutes before opening time. What could have been a good idea (local establishment) during Pittsfield restaurant week was an embarrassing parody of a neighborhood place with a fun vibe. Pittsfield already struggles with lots of tourist and hospitality economic conditions - a restaurant week 'special' that is the same price as the offering on a printed menu leaves one's head scratching. About 10 years ago there were offerings that reflected the heat - $ 20.23 dinner anyone? More importantly, the added publicity should show the synergies and the distinctiveness of a local culture - Pittsfield and its visitors deserve more than this low energy experience. read more

Wowwwwww I didn't expect to find something like this in Pittsfield and I am sooo pleased. What a weird, dive-y good place. Most of the walls are chalkboards... all of them are chalkboards? There is chalk all over the walls. The people are super nice. I ran into a bunch of regulars when I was there and they were nothing but incredibly nice and welcoming. There were some GOOD DOGS THERE! The options for drinks are wonderful. They have a paint a pint night when patrons can paint glasses which you can take home or let them use at the bar... I love this so much. There is also a dart board, which is wonderful. I'm obsessed with darts. Okay, so I really can't say anything bad about this place. I love the vibes, I love the drinks. I love this place. The atmosphere is awesome, they play the best music, and it's a younger crowd. I'm 35 and moved here right before covid and didn't really get to do much in this town until recently. I'm trying to build my community, find fun things to do, and make friends. Finding my niche has been hard, but I think this is the place to do it. Now I'm pretty much addicted to this place and go at least once a week. I love that the menu is pretty small and straightforward because I'm an indecisive person, and also love that if changes from time to time. Great cocktail specials that rotate also! The Banh mi is my favorite, but I got the Roast Turkey ramen last week and it was absolutely incredible. The only problem was the turkey made me too sleepy to hang out there longer and I had to go home to sleep; I had leftovers at work the next day and almost dozed off on the job . That's the turkey's fault though, not the restaurant's. Lol. I would love to see some theme nights or activities during the week, but also realize we are still dealing with pandemic problems. I heard there used to be karaoke and game nights there. However, they also just opened another restaurant "The Flat Burger Society" down the street that is chocked full of week night activities, so they're probably more focused on that right now. I was as coherent as a sober person, but ran into the most miserable old decrepit old man. He did not appreciate my youth, nor my vigor. I didn't really like the lighting at TnM, it seemed like bad, too bright track lighting. Maybe cuz it was the end of the night and everyone was being informed that last call was in 10 min (early at 11:00). Lots of beers and most are $5 so that's good for beer drinkers. There's no longer any food from Brix since they're closed now. I've tried to inform the Yelp people but found out from the bartender at TnM that the owner changed the name/style for a short time and then just closed it all together. Absolutely incredible. The vibe of the restaurant is very versatile. I feel comfortable going there by myself, which is rare for me, or going with a few friends. Is usually get the brisket ramen and pork buns. Both are very delicious. I love the pickled onions and the marinated egg. I find the broth can be a tad salty. The buns are great, the dough is soft and the sauce compliments the pork very well. The recent partner with DoorDash was very exciting. I work long hours 6 days a week and sometimes don't have energy to cook and not interested in going out but am looking for something satisfying. This really hits the spot. My order arrived quickly and was still hot despite it being cold outside. I was interested to see how it was packaged and appreciated that it was "deconstructed". I love Thistle and Mirth, which doesn't surprise me because it's right next to (and owned by the same person as) Brix. The interior is dark and simple but packs a surprising amount of ambiance. It's nicer than a pub but welcoming and unpretentious. I'd classify it as a mix between upscale speak-easy and old world pub. The beer selection is quite large and written up on a huge blackboard behind the very long bar, with some descriptions next to various brews, which range from locally made seasonals to internationally imported types. The bartenders are very friendly and knowledgeable and can match a beer to any taste, including challenging requests like beer mixes (Black and Blues have nothing on some of the awesome combinations bartender have come up with for me). For food, it's a very abbreviated menu delivered right over from the kitchen of Brix next door. Poutine, burgers, sandwiches, and chips but it's all hand made, gourmet, and tasty as hell. There's a great little sitting area in the front with comfy couches and games piled nearby if you feel like just hanging out, something I've only seen done in hookah lounges but that I absolutely adore, and there are smaller tables along the walls if you don't want to sit at the bar and would rather a more intimate way to hang out with another person. Whether as the destination for the night or just a stop over for a few cool drinks or two before heading on to your dinner reservations, Thistle and Mirth is sure to please. read more
