Stumbled on this restaurant while another French restaurant didn't take us because we did not have reservations. How lucky we were to end up here! This is the only night we have in town as this is a layover on the way back to LA. It was hard to know how many course would make a complete dinner. The very nice waiter described it as a tasting menu so we were afraid it would be small bites. We chose 6 for me and 7 for him. It ended up being one of the biggest most complex dinners we've ever had. Every course was artfully put together and each component had its own unique flavor. Every bite complemented each other. The meal was delicious! The servers were so efficient and courteous, giving us a truly wonderful dining experience. Food was well worth the fixed price $79 for 7 course meal!! Must indulge when visiting this city!

It's a coincidence that we visited Johannes only one day after Doron made this bad experience. We had booked our table about 2 weeks in advance and were looking forward to it. And we didn't get disappointed. Re-visiting Johannes after half a year was exactly the same pleasure like on the first time. The service is still very professional yet nice. The dishes are still a visual and culinary delight. If you want you can even look up the composition of the current courses on Johannes' website. It's true that it took more time between the order and the first appetizer than when we were here for the first time. But after that the courses were served in enjoyable intervals. The dessert contained a little surprise: if you were curious enough to turn the plate where the small ice cream was placed on, you found a little crème brûlée in the cup underneath it. Call me simple but I like easter eggs.

We were able to get seated right on the window area. We chose menu 5, which was just enough for two people. Everything was delicious! Their pea soup is out of this world. Don't know why as it is a simple dish but wow! I also love their herring. It was so delicious that I wanted seconds. It paired so well with their onions and mustard. And their bitterballen was just enough bite. Creamy and crispy! We also got a combination of the hutspot. They were all delicious! Although for me the meatball was just a tad bit salty but it is probably just me! Everything else was spot on. I love their dessert at the end. It was a great way to end the night. Our server and their staff were all amazing! Very friendly and welcoming. Yes it is a tourist spot but totally worth it.

We did not have one but they were happy to seat the 2 of us and invited us to switch tables once another couple left (they were checking out). Small space, can accommodate groups of 2-4, cozy atmosphere, lots of the traditional blue and white ceramics on the wall (dishes and tiles). Traditional Dutch cuisine: we ordered the Boerenkoolstamppot with smoked sausage and Zuurkoolstamppot with smoked sausage and a slice of apple pie to share for dessert. The food arrived piping hot in about 20 minutes. It was sooo delicious--the tasty juicy sausage pairs perfectly the mashed potatoes with either sauerkraut or kale. The apple pie was also tasty--larger chunks of apple and more spices less sugar than American apple pie from what I can tell. Perfect with whipped cream. A must visit if you're in Amsterdam and want to try traditional fare. Highly recommended!

The Pantry - I hadn't had Dutch apple pie since my days waiting tables at Denny's, in the '80s & this was well worth the wait.

Located on the Rozengracht, it's super central and easy to get to from just about anywhere in the Jordaan or the Center. * The Atmosphere: It's dark, moody, and has a very cool "late-night" energy. Even if you aren't sure what it is from the street, the vibe inside is unmistakable. * The Food: If you like meat, this is your spot. The burgers are massive and juicy, and the ribs literally fall off the bone. * The Vibe: It's a bit louder and more energetic than a standard restaurant, making it perfect for a night out with a group or a casual date with great cocktails. It gets incredibly busy, so even though it feels like a "hidden" spot from the outside, you'll definitely want to book a table ahead of time. Overall: A total neighborhood win. Don't make the mistake of walking past it for as long as I did!

We entered and seated ourselves, and within 5 minutes, a staff person greeted us, brought us a flask of tap water (tastes great and clean) and two glasses, and gave us menus. We ordered a short rib sandwich for him and a chicken Caesar sandwich for me. These come à la carte but you can add sides if you want. I was glad we didn't because the portion was generous. One thing I've noticed here is that the bread is always high quality--our sandwiches came in baguettes about 8 inches long --I had to cut mine in half to eat it lol. Both were savory and flavorful and satisfying. The meat was tender and well seasoned. We savored every bite! They both had crispy bacon in them as well. Very filling! Just what we needed to energize us after our morning at Keukenhof!
