Always love stopping thru Cafe George during trips to Amsterdamnot only for the amazing menu and drinks but the vibe and exceptional staff. And their espresso martinis are certainly one of my favorites!!

Our first dinner in Amsterdam was at Cafe George, a delightful French brasserie with New York bistro cool vibes recommended by our Hotel Concierge. It was a perfect choice for a lovely, relaxed meal after a long day of traveling. https://lisaefreedman.com/a-hidden-gem-on-amsterdams-canals-discovering-cafe-georges/

Very nice dining room, however we sat at a sweet table outside. Our server was very nice and efficient. We both had a terrible chicken club, wow so disappointing. Cold tasteless sliced deli Chicken served on cold dry white toast. We couldn't believe a $20. club wasn't grilled chicken or served on nice toasted bread. The fries were typical frozen type, nothing special. Bloody Mary was watery. I couldn't recommend, George is sleeping.

Get here by noon because it fills up fast! What a cute spot though. Definitely a British vibe w the clean white decor and lovely bar. The front tables are prime real estate but the booths inside are still good ambiance. Loved all the food but portions were kinda smaller. Except for the croque madam. That was huge.

    Restaurant...great vibe!

Our concierge was kind enough to suggest Cafe George and I am pleased to report that it was a fabulous suggestion! The staff is friendly and energetic, the restaurant is clean, bright, and comfortable, and the menu is perfect. Honestly, I wish we had found it earlier on our visit to Amsterdam. If I return here I will definitely book a table at Cafe George. I ordered a Croque Monsieur for dinner. Yes, I know...it isn't fancy, but that is my favorite sandwich and I can never find them in America. I also ordered a dirty martini and not only was it perfect, it came garnished with my absolute favorite olives, anchoa olives (anchovy stuffed olives from Spain). We were served a delicious fresh French baguette, Fleur de sel from France, and a mini can of anchoa olives. Okay, so we ate. I literally did not take photos of our food because I was so hungry and the food did not disappoint. My Croque Monsieur was delicious and my salad was crisp and fresh. If you're American, then be prepared...NO restaurant in Amsterdam is quick. Adjust to the culture. Things move WAY slower here, it's just the way it is. An empty glass doesn't mean bad. service, it is them leaving you alone to enjoy things at your pace. Ask for another drink if you want another one. no big deal... I can say now that we have finished our meal that everyone was happy and dated. The food and beverages were both delicious! I highly recommended this restaurant! Great choice while you're in town!

A hidden gem on a nice residential neighborhood in Amsterdam! It is located close to some tourist attractions but not close enough to be a trap. Very fast and excellent service despite being busy for Sunday brunch. The kroket is absolutely amazing! Pasta carbonara was very authentic and the deserts were all great. Excellent ambience. I was here during the fall, in mid-September and the weather was perfect for sitting outside and enjoying an excellent meal. This place was recommended by locals and should be on everyone's list when coming to Amsterdam!

    Fish and chips

This cafe is a little off the beaten path but it is very worth finding! I had the fish and chips. This dish will probably be my gold standard by which other future F AND Cs will be judged. Perfect light breading. Tasty. I would guess the tartar sauce was made in house but not sure.

This Cafe was very nice, great location. All within the best upscale shopping. The food was good. The service was unbelievably bad... They were not crowded. No one came to the table... I went inside to order at the counter. Nice big juice " Beverly Hills" type attitudes. They forgot half of our order. We got so tired of waiting, we went back inside, paid the bill... Oh well... not every place is going to be great, but most are.

Cute little restaurant for a small family or even a date. The waitress was very friendly and helpful. My family all said that they got really good food and I got the carbonara which was good but soo much peppery -- overwhelmingly so that I only took a few bites. With that being said though, my sister ordered the 1/2 grilled chicken and said it was the best she's ever had.

    Steak frites and fish

Stopped by this cafe while walking and hungry. The steak frites was superb, so so good. But the fish could use some work for the price, as the fish itself was good quality and tasted fine but the dish was bland and had hardly any seasoning.

Fantastic find for lunch in the neighborhood we stayed in! Perfect for a rest and refill during the day. Great wines, simple food prepared very well. Typical European casual service (don't be in a hurry). If you want something ask for it..... I had simple soup and salad with chicken and fresh vegetables in it. It was all good! Wine list availability is great by the glass also. You won't be disappointed.

It's just outside the hustle and bustle of Jordaan. The terrace is pretty cozy or airy depending on the season, they have heating lamps and local Dutch vibes - you can order something and they will leave you alone for as much time as you want until you wave them down again, so it's great to hang out and read a book. The charcuterie plate was pretty decent. Good first date spot, since it's right in that not-too-cheap not-too-expensive price point, you know what I mean . I'd say it's convenient, nothing so special that you'd go out of your way, but not bad either!

The menu is simple with sandwiches, two different salads, a soup of the day and some light snacks. They also have some Dutch beer on tap. I ordered a local IPA, fries and the goat cheese and prosciutto grilled sandwich. After chatting and downing our beers, which emptied before our food came, we ordered another round and started to wonder about our food orders, especially since all of us got sandwiches. It doesn't take that long to make. Our table was also next to the kitchen so we could see that the chef was on his phone, not cooking, which was confusing. We ended up asking another server about this and she went over to the kitchen to check on our order. Turns out - the order never came through in the computer system to the kitchen, so she had to tell him our orders so he could start making it. By the time we got our orders we were starving (since we were traveling all morning!). My grilled sandwich had lots of goat cheese, which was yummy, but wish it had more of the prosciutto. Nothing special about the sandwich, but at least it was sustenance. Same with the fries. I was hoping for some good, thick fries to go with the side of mayo, but they were thin. Overall, Brasserie Blazer is not the best option for lunch in the Jordaan neighborhood of Amsterdam, but it was convenient for us.

Top Notch Breakfast and Dinner…read more.. Brasserie is the restaurant inside the Ambassade Hotel. My wife and I...along with another couple...had 4 breakfasts and 1 dinner there so this review reflects our experience. - Overall: 5 - Location: 5 (for Old Town and the Jordaan) - Exterior: 5 - Interior: 5 - Atmosphere: 5 - Menu: 5 - Food: 5 - Service: 5 (though the head waiter at dinner was full-of-himself) - Price and Value: 5 Pros: - Location: Convenient to the Old Town and Jordaan parts of Amsterdam. - Exterior: Handsome. A beautifully restored and maintained property. - Interior: Contemporary. Brasserie is a high end spot across 3 rooms, yet remains comfortable where conversation is easily accomplished. - Menu: Very healthy buffet at breakfast plus some items which can be ordered. Dinner offers French fare with a relatively light touch...though very different from the wellness-oriented breakfast. - Food: Excellent. The breakfast buffet is not huge, but full of healthy high quality items. I had 3 unbelievable versions of granola spooned from large jars and covered my bowl with the best tasting light Greek yogurt. Fruit and fish was super fresh...bread and pastries baked on premises amazing. Others in our group chose made-to-order egg dishes. It's all part of staying at the hotel. Dinner transformed Brasserie into a bistro with a French twist on many favorite dishes. Check the menu online. Portions are small - as expected - but quality was high. However, prices were very reasonable with most items under $30. - Service: Homey at breakfast..."French" for dinner. Everyone could not have been more friendly and helpful in the morning. Things were a bit more formal at night with a different crew. The chief waiter was very knowledgeable, but we agreed a bit arrogant. - Price and Value: Worth it. I believe the breakfast buffet is only for guests of the Ambassade Hotel. Brasserie is open to the public at night and quite reasonable. - Parking: None. Who has a car in Old Town? Cons: - The only one readily apparent was the brusque, off-the-cuff nature of our main server at dinner. He wasn't over-the-top, but not in keeping with the friendly vibe of the hotel. And that's coming from 2 couples who grew up in New York City and lived for many years in San Francisco and LA. Anyone can...and should...get dinner at Brasserie. There are many reasons to make reservations for a stay at the Ambassade - including access to their breakfast buffet.
