    Breast Brisket, nice portion
    Fred B.

The only difficult task when getting food from Joe's Take-out is deciding what to order. The Beef Brisket (platter or sandwich) is as good as any in the area , and far better than most. It is flavorful and tender, and the sauce takes it over the top. There burgers are first rate (go for the Smash Burger), as are the hot dogs, no matter how you top them off. I especially like the Chili Dog with mustard and onion, the Chicago style dog, and a simple dog with mustard and kraut! The Ribs are very nice, tender and loaded with flavor. There are plenty of tasty sides, and I love the Street Corn, the Collards, the Fried Okra, and Mac & Cheese. Joe's is the type of locally owned restaurant that I love to support. The food and service are first rate. Because it has little street visibility, it's location, is small with no inside seating, and is take out, a number of folks will never give this place a visit, and that's a shame. The burger here is as good as those at Alex's, Bobo's, Mr BBQ, and Dairi-o. The hot dogs are as good as those at Dairi-o, Mr BBQ, and Kermit's, and very close to those at PB's. The Beef Brisket is as good as any in the area, and far better than the vast majority. I highly recommend and hope you will visit.

Cute place & I would go here again. Is takeout only but they have some tables out front.

A friend had recommended Joe's Take Out for their Hot Dogs, so being hot dog lovers, Carolyn and I have it a try. Now, first, understand that I rarely give 5-stars, and when it comes to hot dogs I rate them on a scale of 1 = great, 2 = good, 3= Decent, 4 = OK, and 5 = Don't waste your time. Joe's dogs get a 2. It is a good hot dog. Joe's is truly a take-out place; although, they do have a few tables outside. There is no place inside to sit and eat a dog. It was 95 degrees, so we ate in the car. We ordered the Carolina Classic (mustard, chili, onions, slaw). The bun was nicely toasted. Onions were fresh and crisp. Dog was all beef and was a tad tough. Chili had nice flavor. Slaw was good. Darn few dogs make the GREAT list, so as a GOOD this is worth trying. Our order included tots and onion rings. Both were cooked well, as we like them. The onion rings were a touch bready, but were tasty. Tots were good and crispy. Joe's offers a variety of hot dogs (see menu insert), as well as burgers and other sandwiches. You can order from their list, or build your own with a wide range of toppings. They have bottled soft drinks, along with sweet tea and lemonade. They will mix for you. If you're looking for a GOOD Carolina dog, this is one to check out. Service was friendly, and quick. Dogs were served in a foam tray with lots of room. They at 3:00 p.m. Indoor seating would help, but it does say "take our". We highly recommend Joe's Take Out when you are looking for a quick lunch.

This little hidden gem in Clemmons is a great find. Focusing just on take out, they had a great niche during lockdowns. There are a few tables on the sidewalk but make no mistake this is not designed to be a dine in establishment. The staff were very friendly. The guys behind the register and cooking seemed young and goofy, but did their jobs well with smiles. The owner came out and talked to us for a while and was an incredibly nice guy. You can really tell he is a hard worker and would do anything to make a business succeed. As for food: I got the loaded Mac and cheese, which has endless options. The one I chose had pulled pork, tater tots, a house-made chipotle sauce, and more. It was easily two full servings worth of food, and heated up well the next day when I had the second half. It was a touch greasy but not to an extreme. Apparently they make their own cheese sauce for the Mac, and smoke their own meats in house, and you can really tell the quality is there. We also got the Smokehouse Brisket Burger on a hoagie. It was actually not what we had wanted (they had advertised a cheeseburger sub that we wanted) but likely a simple miscommunication. Unfortunately this smokehouse sandwich was not very good, with burnt tasting sauce and an excessively oily serving that left the bread dripping oil. It was not appetizing and we mostly didn't eat it. All that said, I will absolutely come back here. I wouldn't get the smokehouse sandwich but there are many other great menu options and I'm very impressed with the attitude of the owner and focus on quality house made ingredients. This is definitely worth a try one night on the way home from work.

This little hole in the wall restaurant is worth the 20+ minute drive from our house. Everything I've tried at Joe's Take Out has been delicious--and there's a ton of it. The owner is almost always there and super nice as well. They always have new specials they're promoting in addition to the awesome main menu. Like today, I tried a PB, bacon and jam cheese burger and spicy cheese curds, both limited time specials. Delicious, as always, and I'm stuffed, as always. Come here with a big appetite for epic burgers, hot dogs, Mac and cheese and more.

My wife and I are always looking for something new to us that also has positive reviews. On a late Saturday afternoon, we were trying to decide where to grab something to eat. We were headed to Clemmons and remembered Joe's. They get great reviews. So, we thought we would check it out. We knew it was a small location primarily for take out and very close to Tractor Supply, which we also like. We arrived about 4pm and it was not too busy. There were others placing orders and some picking up orders. We were second in line and when it was our turn to order, we said we needed a few minutes. After we reviewed the menu board behind the counter, we made our decisions and said we were ready to order with a few questions. My wife chose the brisket plate with two sides. For the sides she got sweet potato fries and potato salad. I chose the Smokehouse brisket burger with mac and cheese. There is no seating inside because it is a take out place but there are about five small tables outside. It appeared that most people just get the take out and leave. We decided to grab a table and eat there. The person from the counter brought our food to us in to-go containers and we proceeded to dig in. Everything was packaged nicely for transport and included napkins and plastic silverware packets. My wife was really impressed with the brisket and enjoyed the sweet potato fries and potato salad. I thought the burger was delicious and the mac and cheese was good as well, maybe a little overcooked but it had a gentle tang to it and was tasty. This was a pretty cool experience for something we might have normally looked over. We recommend you check them out and we will be back to try something else.

Peanut butter bacon jam smash burger

Really impressed with this place! To be honest I was nervous everything was just going to greasy and fried but I was PLEASANTLY surprised and we loved everything we got! First off, just like the name says, it's a take out place. They do have a few seats outside though. They have a good variety of food options and also have plenty of daily specials that they post on Facebook as well as on some boards inside. We got the chicken street tacos, 1/2 rack ribs, peanut butter bacon jam smash burger, and a Chicago dog. I opted to get my tacos without any cilantro and asked for a side of their chipotle cream that I saw on the burger/hot dog toppings list and wow, I absolutely loved these. They are PACKED with chicken, but I do think the chipotle cream was necessary to make it as good as it was. My husband and I split the burger and ribs. The ribs fell off the bone and were cooked perfectly, the sauce was a little more tomato-y than I prefer, but otherwise still really good. I was nervous about having peanut butter on my burger but it was GOOD! The sweetness of the jam with the crunch and savory of the burger, peanut butter and bacon went together so well. My husband had the Chicago dog, his first ever, and the said it was good. He doesn't have anything to compare it to but it was loaded with toppings and he would get that or another hot dog again. I love the wide variety of their menu and can't wait to try more options, like their famous street corn and the brisket tacos (with another side of chipotle cream!). Don't miss out on this hidden gem!

As you see in the name, it's a takeout spot, so for the "ambiance" there is not much to say. The service was good, very quick and helpful. We picked up the food to eat it while at the Tanglewood lights. To start off, the street corn was BOMB. We love us some corn, and it did not disappoint. The hot dogs were also great, from the choice of bun, to the actual hot dog, to the toppings, all amazing. We also really enjoyed the mac and cheese, but maybe it wasn't our healthiest choice. all overall great.

If I could give a Negative I would.. Oh my GOSH!! This place is the worst !! My wife and daughter stopped in this afternoon and for once they had burnt ends and boy they were burnt alright!! Definitely inedible had as a rock and smothered in extra bbq sauce. We were so disappointed wasted money on not 1 but 2 plates of crap, because that is what is was and I'm sure they knew . You ought to be ashamed selling people junk in this economy. So for all you people thinking of purchasing burnt ends from here , better think twice .. Buyer Beware!!

Stopped by after visiting someone in the hospital down the road and it didn't disappoint the star was the brisket baked beans for sure the food was all good brisket was nice and juicy and the pulled pork was full of flavor the street corn wasn't really street corn but still ok the costumer service was outstanding they where all very helpful and welcoming will definitely be back

Okay, I have a lot of reviews to write, but Joe's Take-Out gets to jump the line because this place needs more love! Opened during COVID and serving a diverse menu of down home cooking that just about anyone can enjoy, Joe's is sure to become a favorite lunch or dinner destination for the lover of all things grilled or smoked. Note that they are take-out only, but there are some outdoor tables. Canned sodas are also the only available beverage, so just know that stuff in advance and you are good! On my first visit I intended to get some of their interesting hot dog selection, but instead was craving a smashburger, so I went with "Joe's Special burger" which comes topped with cheese, pulled pork, BBQ slaw, hot pepper relish, and some signature Joe's sauce. First thing that jumped out, beautiful brown crust on the burger patties, hallmark of a properly done smashburger. Honestly, I could not really taste the pulled pork because there were so many great flavors. Hearty beef, melty cheese, vinegar from the slaw, heat from the pepper relish, and a touch of creamy from the signature sauce. Perfect. I had this served with fried okra, clearly breaded in house, crispy light batter, tender okra, will be a definite re-order. Second visit, I wasn't going to pass up the opportunity to try some brisket. I went with a plate that included two sides (I went with baked beans and mac n cheese) and cornbread. I also added collard greens. I'll break it all down below, thrilled with the portion size on the sides. Cornbread piece was a little small by comparison, but hard to complain with the side amounts. Brisket- Packed nicely for to go. Individually wrapped in foil with some sauce and juices to stay moist. My pieces were cut from the point, which has a bit more fat on top and a fatty vein in the middle, and when done right is the place where the most flavorful meat comes from. This fat was rendered to a butter texture. Not eating it would be a sin. Clear signs of a good smoking, pink hue around the edge, and I also got a great "burnt-end" piece. Juicy meat, which is always impressive as brisket is VERY difficult to keep moist unless sliced to order from a fresh slab. Would love to try it from a first cut, as it stands, very good. Mac N Cheese- They've changed things up from earlier pictures. It LOOKS like Easy Mac... IT IS NOT. They make a house made cheese sauce, and it is perfection. Thick, creamy, a little zest, you will want this cheese. Book it. Baked beans- Confirmed chunks of brisket in the baked beans, nice flavor and texture, little sweet not overly so, would not change a thing. Collar greens- Finely chopped collards, juice has notes of vinegar and some sweetness. Greens tender but not mushy, plenty of texture. Real good. Point being, support this great local business that is perfect for COVID safety. Had a chance to talk with the manager Brian, and they have some good ideas for new additions to the menu coming soon. You'll not regret it!

We are always on the search for a great hotdog (who isn't?), we found Joe's Takeout via Eric on Yelp (where else?). Oak Ridge to Clemmons is a 34 minute trek for us and some might say that's too far to go for just a hotdog. But there's nothing "just" about this place. We walked in and I immediately had food choice confusion because the special board had Fish and Chips. I'm a F&C fiend, but I stuck to my plan. We were greeted by a very engaging young woman in a bedazzled mask (so cute) and when she found out we were first timers, she proceeded to explain some of the burger terms on the menu. I was really glad she did! Tennessee Technique = fried in a skillet OKC = Onions are mashed into the meat before cooking She also said that Villa Grill on the front of the strip shop also owned Joe's. She encouraged us to give them a try too. I got the 1/4 lb smash burger and Hubs got the double. The bun was a soft artisan roll that had been buttered and grilled. The meat was truly smashed and was a perfect fit to the bun. A 1/2 lb-er seems like too much meat, but I'm telling you it looked fantastic! We ordered with cheese, mayo, mustard, tomato and lettuce. Let me stop here for a second. I don't like that dark green frilly lettuce, which in my opinion, should be a garnish only. I like iceberg lettuce on my burger. I LOVE shredded iceberg and that's what they use! The toppings were very fresh and crisp. The edges of the burger were uneven and crunchy, just like a smash burger should be. We added a little salt but that's just our preference. We both got the Home Chips and they were delicious! I don't know what seasoning they used, salt for sure, maybe it was seasoned salt but there was also a little spicy kick to it. They were so good, you didn't need any ranch, but they did offer some. Hubs also got the Average Joe Dog. Again, the bun seemed an artisan variety with butter and grilled. The all beef 8" dog had a nice snap and was juicy. The chili was SLIGHTLY sweet and the coleslaw and minced onions were nice and crunchy. He gave me a bite and if we hadn't already driven away, I would've gone back in for my own. He agreed it was so good he'd make the trip again. We did not get drinks. Our total was about $23 plus tip. The health rating is a 97. All employees were wearing masks and hand sanitizer is available for customer use. I noticed that she was very good about using hand sanitizer before handling the boxes of food. As an FYI the aroma of BBQ and brisket is very enticing. The ribs are available for dinner. When you smell good food from the parking lot, you know you're going to have a great experience and happiness is just steps away.

I chose their original sauce, by far the best selection for the brisket. As usual the to go order was out quickly, just over 10 minutes, and I was on my way, with my meal securely packaged. These folks do a great job filling your order quickly and accurately, and for a reasonable price - things that used to be so common at restaurants stretching from hot dog joints to steak houses - pretty rare these days! This was the typical excellent meal from Honky Tonk - the brisket was very nice, made very special by their original BBQ sauce; the Brisket Chili had its own full smoky taste, with beans included, but apparently no onions; and the collards are good but not great - more sweetness than I care for, no sign of meat onions, or cabbage. I drain the liquid that comes with the collard and add a healthy doses of red wine vinegar and Texas Pete. The sausage included cheddar and jalapeños, and packed a nice spice level. This would be nice served a full length on a hot dog bun with a stout mustard. This Tue and Wed promise to be rather cool, will consider another visit for the Brunswick Stew, more good stuff!

The Friday special - various combinations of fish and shrimp- have been consistently good and pretty big in size for one person. The last time, it was different - filets were so small, they looked like just scraps that fell off a large piece, plus add all the breading, you ended up with nothing but deep-fried breading. Which she loved and came out looking great. Very fresh with all the trimmings in a nice big bun. She said she's definitely get that again. Pay at the counter and I was pleased it wasn't a lunch that cost more than $15. With tip. Great spot and shame on me for but coming here earlier! Definitely added to my lunch rotation.

I visit here all of the time for breakfast with friends, and it's wonderful. Generous portions and…read moresuper affordable. I decided to try it tonight for dinner for the first time. I'm trying different places in Winston for their fish. Honestly, their lemon butter salmon was pretty bad. It was just... butter. That was the only flavor. If you're into that, I guess go for it. The staff were really friendly as always, and the place was packed. So, expect it to be a bit loud if you come in the evenings, but that shows how well it's doing.
