I forgot to take pictures of the food but we got the pit master nachos as an appetizer and my oh my I could not stop eating those. So much flavor in them. We also got the ribs a side of Mac and cheese and hush puppies which all were good. But to top it off we got banana budding and by far the best I have ever had.

First thing I noticed was the cute decor. Order at counter, get your own drinks and seat yourself. I was not super hungry so I just got a kids' plate with a sandwich and hush puppies. I thought the hush puppies were good. The meat on the sandwich was nice and tender but tasted extremely salty to me. I haven't seen this mentioned in other reviews so I imagine it was either a fluke or it was just my taste buds. My companion got a salad with smoked chicken and that looked good, if I returned that's what I would order.

Close to me where wanted to try it out. You order at counter. I chose pulled pork chopped BBQ sandwich, hush puppies, potato salad. Combo includes a soft drink. Total $16.57. I assumed it had slaw on the BBQ sandwich. Nope! My fault for not paying attention. Wait was average. You had couple BBQ sauces to enjoy. And other available condiments to choose. There was ample BBQ piled on the sandwich. It was lukewarm and tasted OK. Hush puppies were a little overcooked. And potato salad good. Soft drink dispenser has multiple choices. Ample tables where setup was fine. Think it gets a lot of to go orders. In all visit was OK but hoping meal would have been a notch better. On to other BBQ places that are on my short list of repeated Q's.

My tray of shredded BBQ and the turkey. With my green beans and potato Can't see the yummy peach cobbler

Went there with my family on Sunday. They are had gift cards from me that I gave them for Christmas. The staff was great about it. The food is delicious. Especially the green beans ( my favorite side) with the baked potato. All of the meats are yummy. Love the BBQ sauce bar where you can choose your own sauce. Took a friend for her 88th birthday. She loved it. Staff treated her like royalty. I will definitely take her back there as well as meet my family there

Not a ton of calorie conscious choices but tried the turkey & the green beans with bacon. Then on the "don't care about calories" selections I tried the brisket & baked beans with brisket. I sampled a couple of their sauces as well. The turkey was good but I would have liked more seasoning so I used the sauces liberally with it. The green beans were good but a little more peppery for my taste. The brisket in baked beans were really good too.

I've had city barbecue for functions, but this was my first time ordering takeout with my own meal. I tried their Cobb salad with turkey and their ranch dressing. They package, the salad very well, and the toppings were generous. Other times I found the meats a little too smoky but the turkey had a great balance and flavor. I love the addition of pickled onions and the bacon was crisp. The ranch was thinner so it incorporated better into the salad. I had their chocolate chip cookie for dessert which was also very good. It was soft and not fancy, which is my preferred way to have chocolate chip cookies. I plan to check them out in person and try some other items on their menu.

Ok. This place has earned points for having the guts to open, in a place where BBQ is part of the culture and is literally a way of life.there are TONS of homegrown bbq spots within a 15-20 mile radius of this place and at least 3 with in a mile from this location. With that said, my expectations were high! I was completely let down. I went on a Tuesto capitalize on their discounted ribs by the bone. I ordered 4 bones, with sides of cornbread, collards, and mac-n-cheese. Let's start with the collards. For there to be pork in them, there was absolutely no flavor, and the texture was too chewy. The cornbread tasted very factory made. Like, I could taste preservatives and they weren't good. It was also pretty dry. The mac-n-cheese was ok. It needed a bit of salt and flavor in the noodles themselves. Finally, the ribs. They were the most disappointing ribs. While they were tender, they were burnt and all I could taste was the burnt crust. There was no escaping it. The taste was embedded into the meat. As an Eastern NC girlie that now lives in the Triad of NC, I am VERY particularly about my bbq. This was NOT it, and I will not be giving them another opportunity. Good luck, though!

City BBQ serves the best barbecue in Winston-Salem. Brisket that's on point, delicious ribs that fall off the bone and a banana pudding that will knock your socks off. Today I had the Triple Que sandwich, made from pulled pork, pulled rib meat and brisket, tossed in a delicious chipotle peach barbecue sauce with pickles and crispy onion straws. My son had a sliced turkey sandwich which he really enjoyed. We always add a few ribs because you can add them in whatever quantity you want, which is a great feature of this excellence establishment. From a side perspective, the green beans are delicious, the baked beans with brisket are heavenly and the fried okra is light and airy. The food and the service is the reason that I come back so often because it is tight. They have an excellent rewards program and a very good app for ordering.

I have a father/son lunch or dinner every once and a while and decided this time that I would like a Nashville chicken sandwich and since I wanted to give some more options to my son this place seemed to have enough choices. We drove over and it was easy to find off Jamestown Road with enough parking and a drive-thru. We parked and went in at mid-afternoon time so it was post post-lunch crowd. It was open with plenty of seating around so it could handle several people, but I am not sure about a specific group. We had several choices on the menu board and I got the Nashville chicken, greens, and slaw, while my son got a sandwich that had pulled pork and sausage plus the greens and okra. They have a variety of sauces to choose from for everyone's BBQ taste pallet. I chose what seemed to be the hottest and it was on the spicy side but not too bad. We also got a couple of bottled beers to go with the lunch. The sandwich was not too bad, the dry rub gave the Nashville spice, but it could have had more heat, and the sauce helped. The greens were pretty good, but needed a touch of vinegar and the slaw was just a bit over on the sauce making it a bit wet instead of the regional dry slaw. I would overall say it was a good lunch and not a bad price though.

I knew after my first visit that I would return to try the Smoked Sausage and re-sample some sides. While it is busy early on week days, lots of take out orders and curbside pickup from local offices, but on Saturday it gets busy more toward noon and beyond - so my early visit was a quick in and out. I ordered the Smoked Sausage Sandwich, which places the sausage in a Texas toast bun ( not sure I've had that type of bun before) topped with their excellent cole slaw. This is a Texas style smoked beef sausage with natural pork casing. And the flavor and texture were excellent - I feel it is the equal of the smoked sausage served by Little Richard's, which is among the best restaurant sausage I've tasted outside of Texas! The sides I chose were Mac & Cheese (excellent just as before), the Cole Slaw ( same as above) and the Corn Pudding, a bit too sweet for my taste).

Fries, chicken tenders and "City Sauce"

Tried the Hand Breaded Chicken Tenders today. They came with the "City Sauce", French Fries, and Tea. The tenders smell and taste good, but they were a tad too chewy for my liking. The fries and tea were great as always.

We came here on a busy Sunday and had a nice meal. My dad was in town and he's quite the steak and potatoes type so figured this would be a good spot... and it did not disappoint. Everyone was happy with their food but the highlight was certainly the half bird! It was SO juicy! Its probably the best piece of chicken I've had all year. I personally also really liked the okra because it was lighted breaded and wasn't greasy like some fried okra. The food was quick and the man working the cash register gave my son a free cookie if he agreed to eat everything I asked him to. No complaints about this spot.

My fiancé ordered the lil sampler with brisket, pulled pork, smoked chicken, and sausage. Chicken was dry, brisket was good, pork was flavorful and his favorite, and sausage was a little dry. Overall, I'd get my meal again but he would not because he knows what he wants. Nevertheless, sampler was great for our first time, so he could try a little of everything. He also ordered the brisket empanadas. They were crunchy, flavorful, and good amount of cheese to meat ratio. Would get again. There would be moments of a lot of people, but the service was still good. We would finish something, and someone would be right over to take it away. I ordered the Pitmaster Plate with North Carolina chopped barbecue. You can choose sliced, chunky, or chopped. The pork was tender, flavorful, and exactly the slightly vinegary flavor I love. I added collard greens, coleslaw, and sweet potato casserole. The greens had a slight kick but were balanced. The coleslaw was fresh and necessary alongside the barbecue. The sweet potato casserole was easily the standout side. The only drawback is portioning on the sides. They are a bit small, especially if you are planning leftovers. I went in hoping to stretch this into multiple meals and almost made it. Still worth it, just manage expectations. Also worth noting, bread does not come with the plate, so I added rolls. My total came to about $31 with the automatic gratuity for larger groups, and I added a little extra. For the quality, service, and portion of barbecue, that feels more than fair. Everything was consistently good, and the experience made it even better. Great spot for groups, easygoing, and welcoming. I will be back. These folks do a great job filling your order quickly and accurately, and for a reasonable price - things that used to be so common at restaurants stretching from hot dog joints to steak houses - pretty rare these days! This was the typical excellent meal from Honky Tonk - the brisket was very nice, made very special by their original BBQ sauce; the Brisket Chili had its own full smoky taste, with beans included, but apparently no onions; and the collards are good but not great - more sweetness than I care for, no sign of meat onions, or cabbage. I drain the liquid that comes with the collard and add a healthy doses of red wine vinegar and Texas Pete. The sausage included cheddar and jalapeños, and packed a nice spice level. This would be nice served a full length on a hot dog bun with a stout mustard. This Tue and Wed promise to be rather cool, will consider another visit for the Brunswick Stew, more good stuff!

I even asked the barista if he remembered to put the espresso in it and he said that he did. I'm not so sure... this time I ordered something different. I asked which flavors of syrups they had and also if they were Housemade. The mark of a true gourmet coffeehouse is housemaid syrups... The girl told me that they don't make the syrups in this location, but at their Charlotte location and they're brought up here. They had the typical ones: vanilla hazelnut and mocha. I chose to get a regular iced oat milk latte sweetened with a little honey with cinnamon powder. The flavor of the espresso is very good and bold and it blended well with the cinnamon and honey. I also ordered two pastries, including A chocolate chunk cookie and a blueberry muffin. I ordered the blueberry muffin because a customer behind me said that the blueberry muffin is his wife's absolute favorite of all the blueberry muffins she's ever had! That sold me on it! The same kind customer mentioned something about a chocolate chunk cookie as he was asking his friend who was already sitting down what he wanted. Again, when I heard chocolate chunk cookie, I had to have one! They had samples of chocolate chip bread that was tasty, but it seemed to have sugar on it which though it is very common in most bakeries I do not prefer. I have no idea why they are putting sugar on top of pastries that are already sweet. It is likely due to the fact that most Americans are addicted to sugar! The complaint that I have is that it took forever for the barista to make my iced latte... I have no idea why... At one point after she had been working on it for several minutes she had to go get more oat milk but before that, I don't know what was taking her so long. Anyway, Copain has a cool vibe and they were playing very beautiful music that suited the vibe very well. The blueberry muffin was tasty and full of fresh blueberries but again it had sugar on top of it! The chocolate chunk cookie was also very large, fresh and soft. It was full of chocolate chunks, and I could even taste a hint of sea salt. Again, it was a little too sweet for me, though. There were several customers in Copain Bakery and Provisions enjoying their coffees and food. They have lots of edible items, including sweet and savory ones sandwiches, salads, croissants, muffins, cookies, brownies... They have ample amount of items to choose from to suit mini a distinct pallet. The service was also very friendly and warm. The prices were also what I considered to be excellent as I paid a total of less than $20 and that included the tip for my two pastries and my 16 ounce iced oat milk latte!

Was in the area for business and this place was recommended by some of my Greensboro colleagues…read more The daily specials on my visit were brisket meatloaf or brisket chimichangas. Unfortunately when I arrived at 5:30 both were already sold out. I went with sliced brisket, collard greens and Gouda Mac & Cheese. Everything was excellent! Good smoke ring on the brisket, meat was very juicy and not dry. Only complaint would be that I prefer the stems removed from my collards, not a deal breaker, just my preference. All of the BBQ sauces were excellent as well. The atmosphere was awesome, loved the old vintage hometown feel. Can't wait for my next visit, I will arrive earlier to try and get the daily specials!

Such a great experience! I don't eat meat much, but took my brother to Black Powder on our Yelp CM…read more- Didn't let us down at all! The service was great with everyone there being super helpful and sweet to us first-timers. We ordered 1/4lb beef brisket (only my brother had that and really loved it!), sauced chicken wings, turkey sandwich with potato salad as a side, pulled pork sandwich with fries, and Smoked Gouda Mac&Cheese. Everything was delicious, especially the fries, turkey sandwich, Mac&Cheese, and the wings!! The place has a very warm atmosphere and we saw a lot of families enjoying their meals. Overall a great stop for anyone wanting to try Barbecue in the Triad area.
