Step the owner came and did a great job putting up curtain rods and pictures and a shower head. He was courteous and responsible. He also owns the company and suggested a wonderful housekeeper that works for him named Ilya that came in and cleaned the apartment perfectly . He goes the extra mile. I've worked with JOATs twice now and have had a great experience. I would definitely recommend them to a friend or colleague for wallpaper installation and furniture assembly. I haven't had them do anything else for me, but their work was not only excellent, but they went above and beyond. They asked the appropriate questions before starting the job and were absolutely transparent about logistics, timing, and hours required for job completion. I worked with Step and Vincent on both jobs, one in my home and one for my work (I am an interior designer) and both times they were punctual, efficient, hard working, and knew what they were doing. E.g., they installed wallpaper in my living room on the wall where the TV was mounted. They noticed the mounting was totally faulty and fixed it for me right away. JOAT/Steph were quick to respond and came out to walk through our office the next day for an assessment of a few tasks, including the replacement of a door closer and a bathroom faucet. Steph answered all questions I had, and knew exactly what he needed to do and which parts he needed to get. He got the parts we needed and was able to schedule the appointment basically right away. On the day of, Steph called to let us know he was coming (arrived right on time for our original appt), completed all our tasks within the estimated time of 1-1.5 hours, and was extremely pleasant and helpful throughout the entire process to boot (: Not only that, JOAT has very fair pricing and didn't try to overcharge/gouge us on anything like some services in the area. If you need handyman help in Brooklyn, don't waste your time trying anyone else! I looked at this company and the great! reviews that it has. So I thought wow! I called them and told them that I was impressed with the reviews. They were GREAT!! on the phone. First spoke to a gentlemen and after to a women that made an appointment for me. My work involved. A boiler in the basement was not giving out heat. And an oven that might have been leaking gas. The gentlemen said NO PROBLEM. The assessment was $20 and $90/hr to do work. I said ok. I asked who will be coming? He said he will and he will be doing the boiler he said he does plumbing. As far as the stove, if it was only the hose in the back that was leaking he can change, if it was another problem with stove he would have to send another person to do the work. I said fine. ( if it was not the hose in the back I had the intention to get a new stove so that was fine for me). A polite young man arrives with a pad. He introduced himself shook my hand, a gentlemen. I asked are you here to asses the boiler and stove? He had no idea!!! what he was there for. I had to tell him all the details ( that I had told the gentlemen on the phone.) I asked him where were his tools to assess? He was perplexed at that question and said in the car. I said you have soap to see if stove hose is leaking? ..etc... He said yes in the car, I have everything in the car. We went to the stove, he pulled it out, reaches over to my tenants sink, grabs her soaps starts to pour it at the hose, not evenly, some on the floor, puts the gas lever on position and I started to smell gas. He said yes its leaking. I said that is the pilot lights don't you have to turn those on? He said yes , yes... He did not have a lighter, I had to go look for one and we were able to turn one pilot light on. The lighter I had was not working well only sparks. I had to light a paper towel and give it to him to light oven pilot light. He than says yeah its leaking. You hear that? Someone will come to do this for you. I told him that I was told it would be done at the same time. He said I can go to home depot get a hose and I can come back and do it. REALY? When we went to the basement for boiler, he told me the pilot light was off. NO! it was on! The pipes were burning... he said oh yeah, someone will come to fix this. Had no clue what was wrong got no assessment . I told him no thank you gave him $20 he said "we don't take checks" I said that's all I have. He took it and I looked up in u tube how to bleed the boiler, I did and I fixed the problem... which that's what I had told the first gentlemen that I spoke to if he can do that. I told him that might be the problem. Air in pipes. I would not recommend them at all. You can call your own oven guy and your own plumber. The guy who came over was VERY!!!! nice!!!! ...they all were... but can not do the job... its a company that has one person making $500 a day with assessments. And getting a kick back from the plumbers etc... read more
