I hired Avid Handyman service for the renovation of two bathrooms. The work was pretty good and results were acceptable, according to what was paid. The team was very professional and hard working, patient enough to hear and apply our requirements. Sometimes it was a bit hard to reach their management, but I guess they were busy, still would get updates and feedback on a regular basis. Price reasonable and treatment was fair and professional all the way to the end. I would recommend them for any project, it was nice to work with the Avid team. read more

BAD EXPERIENCE! I really tried to make it an easy job - sent pictures ahead of time, described the work I was looking for, however none of that seemed to have helped. Contracted to seal fitment around PTAC Air Con unit which was missing molding at baseboard area. Sent pictures ahead of time to outline the work that they were going to have to do. Agreed service was to (1) install baseboard which had a gap between my unit and the wall (leading to air leakage) and (2) seal the gap in the air con unit sleeve. They came unprepared for the job without a baseboard, and instead installed caulk where it should have gone. The caulk installation was messy at best, so I instructed them to remove it prior to leaving. The picture shows how they "cleaned" it off. They did offer to go out and purchase a baseboard at home depot to put it in, but this was something they knew I wanted installed, so I was shocked this was their answer. As an additional humorous aside- they asked me to borrow a pair of pliers because they left theirs at "another worksite". On the brightside, they did fix the air con unit fitment into the wall sleeve (using the pliers they borrowed). Overall, I'm not happy and when I provided them this feedback they became defensive and it was not until I mentioned socializing my feedback that they offered any outreach. read more

Beware! Avid Handyman irrevocably damaged a door they were attempting to install at my house, and refused to take responsibility for it. Avid was hired to install a door at my home, which they installed upside down (see photos below). The door can no longer be used, since the door handles would be at the wrong height if the door were turned upright to its proper position. My phone calls, emails and letter requesting compensation for the cost of this damaged door have all been ignored. Unless you're looking for the added aggravation of going to court for your next small home improvement project, look elsewhere. read more

We purchased curtain rods and drapes from West Elm for a wall of windows in our apartment. We originally hired West Elm for the installation but their technician was unable to drill into our wall... I ended up calling Avid. They were great and easy to work with. They quickly and professionally installed the curtain rods and drapes. I am a perfectionist when it comes to these things and our curtain rods were installed perfectly and are going strong a year later. Du was our handyman. He was awesome and our even our dog liked him. Hired Avid after searching and getting quotes for both painting and minor construction services. What I really like is that they do any project regardless of size, and they offer a variety of services, from painting to construction and electrical, and we wanted to establish a relationship with a company that we could call in the future as additional work arises. When there is a problem, the last thing we wanted to worry about was who to call! Anton and Brian came over within an hour of me calling requesting a quote. They seemed to know what they were talking about, and overall trustworthy people we would feel comfortable with being in our house while we are at work. Their quote was very reasonable. We got a detailed quote a few hours after our meeting, no follow up required. They were very professional, and so easy to communicate with. While they weren't the cheapest quote we got, it wasn't that far off, and honestly I am happy I paid the extra $200-$300 for quality and peace of mind. They painted 2 floors, including a lot of wall repair, as well as replaced our back door and installed a vent fan in the bathroom. We bought new hardware to put in replacement around the house, and the guys were great about it. We added a few more items as the work got started, which also was no problem. We have a dog, and they were very sweet with her as well. Team came and went every day, and we loved seeing the progress. Despite having a crew in our house every day, they did such a great job cleaning at the end of each day which we really appreciate. Once they finished the work, we had a couple of things we wanted touched up, and they came by 2 days later and fixed everything we asked for. Anton & his team were able to deliver a quote, and begin the project within a day of inquiring about a renovation for a bedroom & bathroom in my apartment. They came in at a very fair price, completed the project right on time, and did an overall amazing job. The rooms had many imperfections, and small holes in the wall from the previous person that lived there. The rooms now look like they could be in a luxury condo in what is a pre-war building over 90+ years old! They also mounted a TV on a brick wall in my living room, which we now get compliments on all the time that really opened the room up. He explained that my job would be charged by the hour and gave a rough estimate of how many hours I would need to pay for, as well as their rates. I have not had anyone return my call as yet over a week later. Cannot speak to quality of work since no work was performed. I wish i had time to write novel about how incredible these guys were, but sadly i do not. I had an enormous of handy work done by them and they were excellent in every respect. The work ranged from installing shelving to putting in two air conditioning window units, installing pantry storage shelving , assembling few large pieces of furniture , hanging 60inch plasma television and few other household jobs. So when we decided to redo both bathrooms, we decided to try them for a larger project. Overall, it was a good decision. My wife and I had the displeasure of dealing with Anton David from Avid Handyman this past December. The job was to remove popcorn ceilings, wall repair, closet door removal, light fixture removal/install, and paint our condo unit. The condo we live in only allows contractor work from 9am - 5pm. This was communicated from the start. Anton could not be more disinterested in this job from the start. We had to call and email multiple times after getting an estimate to initiate the job. When his crew showed up, they were good people, but Anton clearly did not prepare them for the job. They worked hard and were very pleasant, but a couple of them were inexperienced. Not a good sign. Communication with Anton was non-existent. I had to ask numerous times about the closet door removal before it was decided who was going to do it. He never communicated when payments were to be made. The job started and I didn't even give him a down payment. The one time he stopped by, he kept going on about a $30,000 job he did. My job wasn't that elaborate so clearly he thought it wasn't worth his time. When I wanted to talk business he couldn't be bothered and barely answered my questions. We wanted stripes in our half- bathroom which he wanted to charge $900 for. Really? Then, when the specs of the job changed, I had to ask numerous times for an updated invoice. He finally gave me an updated invoice when I reviewed the updated estimate, I saw he wanted to charge me an extra $500 for the ceiling work, without notifying me. Apparently, he thinks he can jack up the price whenever he wants. When I pointed this out and asked for a correction, he said he'll correct it but I didn't get an updated invoice until he began pushing me for a check. Which he wanted before the work was done. There were still light fixtures to be swapped out. His guy showed up at 4:35, a fact we can prove as he signed in at the front desk, there was not enough time to finish the work before my wife and I risked a penalty from the condo. The next day when I asked when his guy was going to finish the fixtures, Anton calls me up yelling at me, saying "based on my electrical expertise" I told him to stop working and that his guy showed up a little after 4pm. When I gave him the facts, he didn't acknowledge it and kept going on about his fair and honest business practices. Speaking of which, on the last day I saw the workers I tipped them all because they were pleasant and worked hard. I felt they deserved it. That evening he tells me on the phone he's not paying them much and asks me to "take care of them". Tipping is my option. It's inappropriate and classless to ask someone to tip your workers so you can underpay them. Also, we ended up not using one of the paints that we paid for. Anton had his guys walk away with a can of paint I paid for. When we asked about it, he gave a shady answer about it being part of the painting cost, when HIS invoice clearly states a charge per color. So, to sum up: his crew was unprepared, he walked away with a can of paint that we paid for, charged us for closet install and light fixture removal/install that didn't happen, and was belligerent on the phone while pressuring us to pay him when the job wasn't done and in numerous spots not done properly. One wall was painted two tones, popcorn ceiling still remains around the light fixtures and multiple spots around the unit, spackle and molding around ceiling is clumped in some areas and lacking in others, the doors were given one coat of paint and was blotchy, the spots on the wall that were supposed to be smoothed were left lumpy and with cracks. We gave him a paint plan which detailed which color was supposed to go in which room with the color samples, which Anton lost. Though according to him the hardware store lost it. On the second to last day I told him I would give him a check the next day when all was done. He then had his workers tell my wife to call him, he asked her to wait for him at the unit thinking he would pressure her into giving him a check so he could cash it and pay his guys at 7pm. This is also the day his electrician was supposed to show up at 2:30 and did not show up until 4:35. My wife waited two hours after his guys left. He also said they charge $150 per paint color because they have to throw out the brushes. The paints were water based and they washed their brushes in our sink. I would not recommend Avid Handyman at all. If someone does decide to contract with this guy keep everything in writing, don't let him bully you, and if he gets out of line remind him he works for the customer not the other way around. Also, be vigilant and vocal about the quality of work being done. One star because of the crew and because yelp doesn't allow zero stars. read more

Here's the catch: I needed it done asap as we may have our baby tomorrow AND it had to be done in the evening when we were home. Anton not only accommodated but took time to understand the request, talk me through a worst case scenario, ensure all was ok with getting into the building.. all while remaining professional and super responsive. With less than 48 hours notice, as well as needing to work outside of normal business hours, the Avid team took care of things we desperately needed addressed!!
