I really appreciated the fact that this small business is black and family owned, so I supported it for over a year with various services, but they are by far the most unprofessional service company you'll ever work with. Not one of the services I got from them (5, maybe more) did they arrive on time or even within the booked timeframe...and no call to alert me of the delay. And some of the delays were 30min-1hr. Each time, it was me calling to check in. I've only had 1 service that was complete to satisfaction. All others they've had to come back to complete. Sometimes several trips. And for booking, an email with multiple questions will take them multiple emails to answer, and days to do so. Don't expect an immediate or 1 fully addressed email. By far the worst booking was when they sent their teenage daughter to complete a cleaning service. She did less than half the tasks, went back to complete them, and still did not complete them...and left the supplies I purchased and shipped to them to complete the tasks at their home office, so had to come back to drop them off...and took it upon themselves to keep some of the items. A 2 hour booking turned into a 3 day affair...and this was with double tipping, in hopes of great service. I've kept myself from leaving reviews after every service, hoping the next service would be acceptable, and because the team is very kind, so you want to root for the company and its success, but this last one was so unacceptable, I feel the need to worn other customers by leaving this review and hope that they read it too so significant changes can be made. Should you still book any of their services, someone needs to be there to monitor. I was away for most of my services due to COVID. This is not a company you can work with while physically away and unable to monitor. I've since shifted to White Glove Elite for cleaning service and Handy for everything else. The difference in service, quality, and skills is literally night and day. read more

The first experience with Steph was great. He was extremely efficient for a small mounting job. When my client (I'm a designer, it was the client that the original mounting project was for) hired him for a larger project, the project management and execution were not good. The project involved painting a few rooms and grouting a bathroom. There were frequent delays, the original execution was poor and had to be redone, and in the end there were still paint touch ups and grout cleanup that needed to be made. I advised paint colors for the space, but he tried to defer blame to me for incorrect paint quantities instead of owning up to the mistake. In the end the project got done, but it was not a smooth experience. Unfortunately I would not recommend Steph's team for anything more than mounting and hanging. read more

I was so sick of dealing with the around-the-way handymen who were always hard to find, would start a job and not finish until they were ready, and would either not answer their phone or the phone got cut off. After reading the reviews on Jack of All Trades, I immediately called them to put up a cabinet that came off my tenants kitchen wall. Step answered and we established an immediate bond. He assessed three jobs outside of the kitchen cabinet and provided me an estimate for the cabinet. He came by in the same week to put the cabinet up. Step literally hung from the cabinet to prove how strong it was. He is a true professional and a really nice guy. I'm sitting here two years later, looking at my grandmothers' rocking chair, where their movers broke the arm, after implicitly telling them this is my grandmothers, please treat it gently. They shoved something right into the arm. This rocking chair is maybe 80 years old, and it's sturdy, but also a rocking chair from the 40's. There was no bubble wrap and box protection for it, I noticed, right after the move, before I tipped them... I was so tired (I worked as hard as they did too), and it didn't seem like a big deal at the time. I tipped these guys well, and they didn't deserve it. Now here I am, wishing I could find the time and money to load the chair up to get it HOPEFULLY repaired by an antique restoration person, on my dime. Look, I know this company outsources their "employees", but to hire some young guys that blatantly ignore simple but important requests that permanently damage things of REAL VALUE, will not be rehired by me again, for anything. read more

JOAT was great. I had a long list of things to fix in my new apartment (realigning cabinets and doors, recaulking and regrouting bathrooms, etc.), and Step and Vincent were very communicative in explaining every fix they were doing so I could learn as well. I'm taking away one star because there was one fix that wasn't done right - the new sink stoppers they installed in both bathrooms leaked, took 3 more subsequent visits to correctly diagnose the leak source and fully tighten / plug up. That said, what's important is that JOAT followed through in fixing their handiwork. I mean, I would have demanded anyhow that they correct their work on their own dime, but it's worth noting that I didn't have to harangue or argue with them about it - Step would sincerely apologize, own up to it, and come rectify as soon as he could. No company is perfect, and I'm glad I can trust that JOAT will take 100% responsibility for the work they do and see it through. Will use again. read more

JOAT and Step are awesome! They were incredibly responsive in scheduling, and flexible with my schedule and a last minute request. Step is very thorough, and also just a delightful guy. I felt totally comfortable having him in my home. They hung my curtains, TV, a couple coat racks, a very large and tricky shelf, and a few other things. I had thought about doing most of this myself, but was glad I brought in JOAT because almost nothing I had came with the right hardware and Step provided what was missing. I had a very large and heavy shelf I wanted hung on the wall and the hardware that West Elm provided with the shelf was not really made for that. Step tried it with the West Elm hardware, but as he suspected, it wasn't right. He then tried it again with other hardware he had, but still wasn't completely happy with it. He ended up going out and getting the hardware I needed for me and coming back a couple days later to get it right. He really is a perfectionist. Step also helped me figure out how to wire and hang a chandelier that was also missing pieces. He never said, "sorry I can't do this you don't have what I need." He came up with solutions to get the job done. He's awesome! I highly recommend them! read more

I cannot say enough about these guys. My apartment has very temperamental walls and is structurally very difficult to work with when hanging anything. In addition to that, I have a crazy eye for detail and can notice something hanging 1/16 of an inch askew. The entertainment system and shelving unit they installed is PERFECT. I had a deep clean scheduled a month in advance and was contacted the day of, and was told the person would be late and also didn't have all the materials, so we had to reschedule.
