When I was a kid my mom would take me to the fabric store whenever we needed clothes.  I liked wandering the isles checking out all the fabrics.  There were really cool designs.  I also liked looking at all the different colors and thickness threads to choose from.  On the rare occasion I needed a new shirt I'd get to pick a fabric.  Nowadays I wear whatever free t shirts I get from computer conferences and I make the occasional visit to the fabric store when Maggie wants to sew something.  Sadly the days of visiting fabric stores is coming to an end.  Joann stores are having their going out of business sale. It appears sewing has been in a long decline as Joann stores is the last of the fabric stores.  Their main competitor Yardage Town closed in 2020.  I will miss walking down the aisles and looking at all the lovely fabrics. I've always loved Joann, so I was really sad to hear this store is closing. I went to buy some fabric as a keepsake and found a few marked 70% off plus an extra 50% off. But at the cutting counter, the staff didn't apply the extra discount. When I politely pointed it out, she refused to check and snapped, "It's correct!" I asked for help from someone else, and she suddenly grabbed the fabric and said rudely, "Either go pay or leave!" I was shocked by the attitude. Why am I attracted to all the little objects here at Joann's? It must be a primeval urge for women to gather shiny things! Haha! The fabric is so thin! I understand that they are there to make money but it's upsetting that we can buy clothing at a considerably lower price than buying fabric and sewing. It's just too bad. I wish I could live in a crafting store! There are several in my area and I usually go to one of two...Jo-Ann's being one of them! Love shopping here as I'm always pleased with the cleanliness of the store, the service (staff are friendly and helpful), and product availability. Recently shopped here for some tie-dying supplies. I ordered the tie-dye and shirts through the app for in-store pick up. Was happy I checked the app first as there was an additional 20% off, even items that were already on sale (when you order through the app for in-store or curbside pick up). And as many of you know any coupon helps cuz crafting can get pretty pricey. Anyhow, When I went to pick up our items I searched the store to see if I could find additional deals. I'm glad I did. I found some really cute visor blanks that I can make in the near future. The tie-dyed shirts came out super cute. We added a little vinyl (also purchased from Jo-Ann) to personal them a bit more. I must say I've NEVER had bad or horrible service here and have never had to wait long at the fabric/cutting table. Checking out/picking up my items was a breeze. They have Cute, soft kid masks with filter pockets. And they have similarly styled (sadly) masks with filter pockets for adults too! I'm using adult sized PM2.5 filters and the pockets of these kid masks snugly fit inside. my filters are awkwardly small for the adult masks so I have to line them up with each use. Ultimately, I don't have to make masks so I'm good with this solution! The staff were very helpful pointing out where the masks were located in the store, which saved me time. They're on the left side when you enter right before the "Quilting" aisle (look for the hanging sign). Bring coupons! Wish I brought in coupons this initial visit. They have them online but this was an impromptu visit so...yeah. Boo on me. After test-fitting the masks I bought on my initial visit on my kids at home, I came back the very next day for a few more masks and had a coupon so I felt pretty happy with myself then. read more

They changed their hours and capacity almost daily. I came here three times last week. First time they only allowed 18 at a time. The line was caterpillar long stretching pass the liquor store to Smart and Final. Hours at that time was from 10-2. The next day, my mom went to take advantage of the senior hours from 9 to 10 and had a store capacity reduced to 10! Finally the third day, on the 8th, I went by myself and the limit was increased to 30! There was a line with 8 people ahead of me but it moved rather quickly within a span of 10 minutes before it was my turn. I usually go to Michaels for my craft supply but Michaels was closed to the public. Allowing online ordering with same day curb side pick up. However they did not allow returns on the spot until stores re-open. So Joann was more convenient since it was opened and I was able to see my color variation in person. I got everything I needed but this three star review is for curb side pick up. I saw a pack of fabric scissors in store for $43. I didn't have a coupon or didn't think to ask for on line price match. I ended up not getting it. When I got home, the same item was $27 on the app! With coupons and curb side pick up, it was $22 out the door! What a steal! I placed the order immediately, thinking it would be like Michaels with same day pick up. The email did state that curb side pick up is delayed and not to come until another email was sent telling you it's ready. I waited and waited, when all this time, it would have been quicker for me to go in to purchase the thing myself! Finally, on the 12th, I got an email that they were ready for pick and I had only three days before it's canceled. I arrived at the store, gave them a call with my name and color/make of my car and where I was parked. Shortly after, my item was delivered to to me in my car. It's frustrating to know that I saw the item in stores and had to wait four days. I guess that's what you do to save half the price! read more

I ended up waiting in line three times: once to ask a question, another to get a price on an unpriced merchandise and finally to get my fabric cut. Very rude experience with the Manager, I believe whose name is Lynn. It was noticeable that she was a manager with how she was directing or bossing people around at the register while waiting at the check out. As she directed the cashiers to take the pick up bags to the curb I asked her if she worked there. Her response was so terribly rude. She barely turned her head and stated she was on her lunch break. It was obvious she could not be bothered, even as she waited for the cashiers to come back in to allow her to purchase something , and while she stood there doing nothing anyways. I only wanted to ask what aisle I could find the frames. I guess it is okay to be rude when you are off the clock or on a lunch break. The store is organized & well kept which is a major plus when you're looking for very specific things! They have such a wide selection of fabrics & patterns. Do not purchase online. They tell you it is $3.99 (or whatever discounted rate they decide) and charge $8.99. Next, they hold onto your order for two weeks before putting it in a package. Next, they use FedEx (the travel all around the country twice before getting it to you company) which does not pick up the package from JoAnn for over a week. The estimate of three to five days to arrive is optimistic as it will take another week (7 days) to arrive. The company service representatives give only form emails when asked at what point this process is at and you are not allowed to cancel the process at all once it begins. One of the form emails said I could return the package to the store, which I did. The shipping cost is not refunded to you so basically you pay $9 to get nothing at all but irritation. There is no question in my mind why this company needed to file for bankruptcy relief. read more

I've never gone here and not been utterly disappointed. If I could give it negative stars I would. You want to know what a price is? Good luck on that. I was trying to get a price for some drapery material on a roll, and I was told I had to take it to the price check area. But then the sticker was on the inside of the tube, so no go. I was advised to grab a number from the machine, stand in line and then the cutting person could give me a price on the material. of course there was only one person cutting material. Pretty sure I've never seen two people do that. But let me be clear, it's not the workers' fault there's only ever one person cutting fabric. That's management's faults. It smelled soooo badly of toxic fumes like formaldehyde just now (Feb 18, 2022 around 10am). I can't imagine how the employees are able to work without passing out! It must be terrible for their health. I appreciate having a pretty big fabric store close by. Sometimes, you can find some really great patterns & fabric types as well as a lot of quilters fabrics and notions. It's annoying that I have to use a coupon every time. Customer service was great today, but it's hit or miss depending on who's working. I purchased online an olive leaf garland. Shipping was good and on time. The product was less than zero. I've never purchased something so cheap. It's nothing olive leaf at all; not the color, not the leaf shape. The overall quality was amazingly cheap. DO NOT pay with Pay Pal. I didn't not want to create an account and used Pay Pal. The store will only give store credit less shipping cost on returns. Laying in bed just thinking about my new craft project that I started this evening. It just makes me think of how much I love old faithful: Joann's. Going there gives me the same feeling as kids get when they go back-to-school shopping. Ya know, where they get to pick out all new highlighters and erasers, whatever they deem necessary for their super cool pencil box. Anyway, Joann's has everything! Their yarn assortment cannot be compared to anywhere else. Their fabric selection makes me weak at the knees. Scrapbook doo bops and craftiness galore. They also have really cool household decorations, especially during holidays. On top of all the coolness I listed above, they text me a coupon once a week! Everything is so reasonable, especially with the coupons. And I can't click continue without mentioning the staff, they're the nice people you meet out that you just end up talking to, utterly enjoyable and very useful. You know you've turned into your mother when you're shopping for a tomato pincushion and a thimble. I swear I saw a field of gray hairs sprout out of my head while waiting for my number to be called. For those not in the know, you need a number to have your selected fabric cut. Which is fine except the cutters move at a glacial speed while you sift sadly through a stack of Butterick patterns from the 80s. Leave yourself ample time for this process...and bring your patience. Aside from the drudgery of waiting for a foot of fabric to be cut and the dismal feeling you get from some of the workers, they are usually well stocked. I found everything I needed there at a reasonable price. Lucky me found faux leather at a ridiculously low price and I was able to fashion some pretty nifty pieces out of my find like a peplum belt and a pair of faux leather wings...fancy! Everytime I go into Joanns, I come out 40 mins later than expected. It's not from looking at different fabrics it's from their slow customer service. This is not the first time I have waited over 30 mins for the store worker to finish cutting fabric. She had a long conversation with the customer she was helping. Yet, there were at least 2 available staff that could have helped cut but didn't. This was a Wednesday morning. Oh and another time I came in to buy some fake leather for a project, the cutting lady didn't quote the price. The fabric was on the wrong shelf and I talked to the manager to help me. Pretty disorganized and you can easily get disoriented in this store. As others, I keep going because they have great deals that I receive on my mail via coupons. And for a crafty person that is a must. Their deals are better than Michaels, and it is a pity that this store seems so run down, like stuck in the 70s, and kind of dirty and old fashioned. However, the materials they sell are awesome, more specifically the fabrics, you can find anything you want. Strawberries with butterflies on it pattern? you get it. Little monsters lost in space pattern? You get it. You can get any fabric, literally. I love that part. So much variety of textures, fabrics, colors and patterns. Also, I like the dying sections, as I like to change the colors of my clothes from time to time. It is here where I get my stuff. By far the messiest & appalling JoAnn's I have ever been to. Searching for the right fabric was like searching for meaning in a Pauly Shore movie. Fabric was everywhere, nothing was organized, & customer service was horrendous. Not only did the cutting table employees have an attitude, but they were just... Clueless. Being at the register was a different story. I came with coupons in hand while the cashier asked me if I had the 50% off coupon on my iPhone app. I told her I didn't & she was just as confused as I was. She had told me that it was there earlier, then proceeded to find a coupon for me. She didn't. She rudely told me that there was no more 50% coupons & just told me to use my 25% off instead. & then she didn't even know how much change to give me. She had to ask. This store is a lot bigger then it seems when you first walk and it has a pretty impressive selection of things other than just fabric. The service slow...but I have yet to find a fabric store that has fast service when it comes to getting your fabric cut. Returns: Remember if you are getting fabric cut and it's under a yard you can't return it - so make sure you want it. Also, you will need a receipt when you return it. In all honesty I really don't know why people are giving this Joann location such bad reviews. It's a craft store, and I don't know what magical place they've been, but it always takes awhile to get called at the fabric cutting station, especially around holidays. I'm giving this store 5 stars because it definitely beats the other locations I've been to in SD. The staff is always friendly, and the fabric is nicely and orderly presented. I really didn't know how much I valued organization until I went to the Joann on Midway Drive in Point Loma. It is literally a war zone; it's impossible to find any fabric because the spools are piled up so high that they're taller than me!!! I honestly do not understand these random 2 stars or under reviews for this Jo-Ann's. I am a huge fan of Jo-Anns, having visited many as my mom loves to sew and be creative. Luckily, she gave me those genes as well, and I am currently on my quest to make my own indoor bench cushion. I came into this Jo-Ann's less than an hour before closing. The store surprisingly was not empty. There were a couple of customers lingering, and there were plenty of staff available to help assist. I got a little less than 2 yards of 2in. foam, 2 yards of batting, and 2.5 yards of a beautiful cotton fabric. The person cutting up the fabric for me was super helpful. The extremely large roll of batting was too huge for me to carry, but he was kind enough to assist me and go to the back to carry it up to the cutting counter. Additionally, he mentioned to me about the 60% coupon that was set to expire that day. I'm glad he shared that with me! Additionally, at check out, the staff continued to extend their kindness by asking me if I had additional coupons. I didn't, but they let me take some time to search some up. No other store is going to do that for you! Seriously, I was so happy with my purchases, PLUS the fact that the staff here encourage you to save money! I had a fantastic experience here, and I hope to come back for all my crafting needs! For other readers, if you stop by any store 10-15 minutes before closing, I believe it is reasonable to understand that YOU MAY NOT BE SERVICED. This store closes at 9PM on a Saturday.
