My husband went with me for the first time on 10/29/24 and I was shocked at the disarray of the store. Freight was blocking almost every isle. I know it's hard to get employees right now but people walking in and walking right out. No one knew where items were located. Restocking was at a standstill. It was very sad. The customer service here is terrible. I waited in the fabric area for 5 minutes before walking to the registers to ask an employee asked about it to hear "maybe they are at lunch" with a shrug. Then, the manager on duty called someone over to the fabric section without even saying anything to me (at least an acknowledgement that someone is on their way or an apology). Waited another 10 minutes with no one coming. Also the person I initially asked never said anything more to me about it. The lines are generally long here and the employees look miserable and are slow. Also trying to find someone to ask for help is nearly impossible. read more

Associates are not helpful whatsoever. They're in a bad mood and act like answering questions or helping is a chore rather than their job. Would've spent money here if I could've received help but I'll be taking my business elsewhere. Do better Joann's. read more

Seeing the wonderfully well written review by my Yelp friend and self-proclaimed "Recovering Hobbyist" Bob M. for the Jo-Ann's in his neck of the woods, made me think I ought to review the one in mine. Although Jo-Ann's opened at this location in October of last year, I wasn't in there until a couple of weeks ago. I'm going to think with a year under their belt, they've worked out the kinks and this location is what it is at this point. Were I more certain of that, this might be a two star review. But in the spirit of the holiday season, I'll make it three and wait for further visits to better evaluate. Because my experience here left me unenthused, with service being the primary reason for the lukewarm review, but product and prices factoring in too. The staff seemed...bored may not be the right verb but it's the one I can come up with as I write this. Not particularly helpful in pointing the direction to this or that, and not particularly interested in answering my "how to" question on a specific issue. Although, the employee working with the sewing machines seemed pretty interested in answering questions of a customer who said she was looking for one for her grand daughter for Christmas. Good for her. Overall, my sense was one gets more enthusiastic customer assistance at Office Depot, where one at least gets asked if one can be helped. And that also made me think that this is the analog - this is the Office Depot of fabrics, sewing and craft stores. Acknowledging my old addiction to fabrics of all kinds in my days when I was sewing, as in deciding on a Thursday night to make a garment to wear on Saturday, , I wondered around to find a decent selection from upholstery to linings. Buttons, zippers, hem tapes, all the fun stuff. And there were craft supplies galore, including a passable substitute for the specific thing I needed. Also some home decor crafty things, like artificial plants and garlands for the holidays in perhaps a step down from what Michael's might carry. But overall my sense was the prices were too high, compared to other places, the quality of much of the stuff was just "meh" and the service was poor. I wouldn't make the trip here to look for something again. For craft supplies, Michael's in Bend's Cascade Village Shopping Center is a better one stop and for fabrics there are a host of little "mom shops" in the area as well as a Hancock's on 97N which provides very good customer service. read more

Okay, after reading all the negative Joann Bend reviews on Yelp, I decided to give my input to help give a more balanced view. For the record I'm from the Portland area and have been in Bend almost 2 yrs. I've had a lot of experience shopping at Joann stores the past 30 years. Maybe my expectations are much lower than others' but I have not noticed any 'bad' customer service at the Bend store in the 8-9 times I've been in there. It's been very consistent with other Joanns. Maybe better. Case in point, last time I was there the fabric cutting attendant suggested I check the remnant bin based on what I had selected. I did and saved a bunch on high quality fabric! I've had nothing but good experiences there, and love that it's so close to my home. read more

Had such a lovely experience inside Joanns today. Buying materials to make masks for those in need. Not only were 90% of the customers rude and pushy, my favorite experience of the day was definitely miss Margaret at The Cutting counter and her commentary about how as a "person of my age group" I didn't know how to follow the rules just because I didn't grab a number which I assumed because of state of emergency we are in and we were just going by the line that was in place already. Whatever you do don't forget to get a number otherwise they'll skip you and let everyone else go in front of you just to show you that the rules are O so important. I got harassed since I did not allow the lady who just walked up take my spot. Even though I had been standing behind the person in front of me where Miss Margaret and everyone else could see for 10 minutes. read more

I just left the Bend, OR Joann Fabric store. I had a cart full of items but was "put off" that a woman in the store was not wearing a COVID mask given that the State of Oregon requires one. I put most of my items back. However, I really needed one item so decided to check out. I had the same cashier that waited on the unmasked woman. I empathized with the cashier that she has a tough job right now but asked why the woman wasn't wearing a mask. The cashier said she asked the unmasked woman and her response was that "President Trump said we don't have to wear one". Well, we do in the State of Oregon and I want to know why the woman wasn't asked to leave the store? Maybe Joann Fabric's can help their employees by providing a script on how to handle situations like this. It is for the safety of their own employees and all of the other customers. Stop the unmasked people at the door and if they refuse to wear one, politely ask them to leave the store. As an example, Target has an employee stationed at their front door to handle situations like this before they enter the store and potentially expose everyone. read more

I haven't seen any recent reviews, so thought I'd add my two cents. They've clearly gotten new management or have had some other overhaul since the 2015 reviews here. In all of my visits (4 or 5) there over the past six months, the store has been clean, well-organized and the staff members that I've had contact with have been friendly and helpful -- twice, they even walked me over to show me exactly what I was looking for. I would have to agree with the previous review. I moved to the area a year ago, and have visited JoAnns thinking it would be similar to a JoAnns from back East. I have visited this JoAnns at least 4 times and every time I ask myself, why do I bother coming here. The general appearance of the store is what I would term messy and disorganized. The cutting area is totally mismanaged. They need a short line for cutting if you have 3 items or less. I'm going in search of those mom and pop stores! If you ask for assistance, you are made to feel like a bother. Their employees need a class in customer service and how to be friendly. A smile would be welcome. read more

Bored? Tired? Whatever the case may be I've never encountered such unfriendly staff. Here's a list of the things that I've witnessed over the course of 3 years at this store: 1. No greeting, no welcome. Ever, at any point. 2. Just try to find someone if you need help! 3. Impatient cutters. Forgive me if the fabric is in 2 pieces and I need to take 2 minutes to figure out how much more I need, with no offer of a discount to compensate. 4. Fabric cut crooked every time, wish I could cut my own. 5. Done cutting the fabric and tag is handed to me with this "Here". 6. Checking out is the same. No welcome, no thank you EVER, no have a nice day/have fun sewing. Nothing. I've said "Thank you" to which the reply is "You're welcome". 7. Often I've been ignored because they have earbuds or mics so they can talk to other staff. I've been left standing there while a conversation goes on and on. I've witnessed gossip between two employees about a third employee. I've heard the cutter try to get another employee in trouble because she was late coming back from lunch. She actually was not. Yes I heard the whole thing while standing at the cutting counter. I think that's enough. My daughter was with me again today. She asked me why I keep coming here. She pointed out that every time she's been with me the service, or rather the lack of, is always the same. Managers are you paying attention? Maybe bring some "shoppers" in a few times a week. While they may have a large selection, the employees are the most miserable group of lumps I've ever encountered. I ordered some fabric that had to be an "In store transfer". They charged $7.00 for shipping and a month and a half later the fabric was in. I could have walked to the other store and back several times in a month and a half. No apology, no refund of the shipping charge (even though I asked). To add to their incompetence, they had too much fabric for my order and tried to sell it to me. I didn't want it, so the poor inconvenienced employee had to walk 100 feet and cut the remnant off. When I voiced my displeasure, the employee stopped, faced me posturing like she wanted to first fight me while saying in a condescending tone, "sorry if you feel that way". What a joke. How about you treat people with respect and value. If the owner of this company witnessed this they would be appalled at the behavior and I would bet they'd fire this employee immediately. Unbelievable. If there were ANY other options, you can bet my money would go elsewhere. read more
