We moved two weeks ago with JK's services and they were stellar. Not only were they extremely careful (especially with our piano), they were efficient and took much quicker than we thought! We were estimated to take at least 8 hours to move, but it took them only 6. The guys were friendly and hardworking. They even showed up early! The front end of move was good, estimate easy to obtain despite social distancing. They get a star for getting our stuff to our destination (move from Maryland to Florida). From there on, though, it went downhill. The guys showed up to pack 4 hours late, did not call, I had to call to track things down. We had a virtual "assistant" who communicated a little at the beginning (especially as regards to payment, of course it ended up being $1000 more than the estimate) but never heard from him again, including unload day. Things were thrown randomly into boxes There were a few broken things but we were not told about claims process (not to fix things until they were claimed.) The guys who unloaded couldn't get out of there fast enough, did not bolt beds together, which we only discovered when we tried to move the beds. Another quote was "your husband can put this couch together, it's easy". They unloaded other people's stuff (we were not a full 18 wheeler) which we could have kept if we had felt like it. Also, I know it was Florida and it's hot but they wouldn't keep their masks on. Don't know if this is better or worse than a typical long distance move. At least we got our stuff. Well, it's been over 12 weeks now and I am still waiting for them to repair my furniture. Numerous emails do not result in them moving forward to repair my furniture. They do their best to wait you out with you hopefully getting discouraged and won't pursue this further. Looks like I will have to get a lawyer involved if they do not resolve this soon and I will file a complaint with the better business bureau. read more

Immediately destroyed my high value item by smashing it into a box that was too small. Only one of the five movers was trained, but he was the one that smashed my high value item. He also wouldn't let me view the inventory as he added items or check box/item numbers as they went out the door. Did a ton of damage to multiple items, including furniture. Packed fragile items into a large box with ICE SKATES and no packing material. They left the truck unlocked in an alley all day, even though I told them at the beginning that there had just been robberies there. If I could give 6 stars, I would. Tom and his great team moved my home today. They were on time, professional, and very experienced and careful with my household items. All my fragile items were expertly wrapped and stored, and my furniture was wrapped well and stored efficiently with not a bit of wasted space on the pallet. Six stars were warranted, especially, when I explained I could not empty the drawers on a Singer sewing machine my late mother left me -- there were too many memories. Tom said, not a problem, they would bubble wrap it "as is." And the team did. I was terribly grateful at the compassion shown. I would use this company over and over again if possible. Since I don't plan to move again in the near future, the least I can do is to tell everyone about how wonderful the service was. This company did exactly what they agreed to do. They contacted me two days before the move to confirm, and they also changed my moving day several times due to issues with my lender. My experience with JK Moving Company was an extremely infuriating and frustrating one. At 8 a.m., an hour before JK Moving's employees were scheduled to arrive at my condo to pack my belongings and move them to St. Augustine, Florida, I received a call from their dispatcher. She informed me that the driver of the van onto which my belongings were to be loaded could not drive the van into my development because it was too large. Therefore, I had to pay an additional $800 to have my possessions loaded onto a small truck so that they could be transferred to a larger one at JK'sr headquarters!! When I balked at this outrageous price increase, the dispatcher referred to some phrase in the company's contract that basically says that customers are responsible for all of JK's screw-ups. Whether including such verbiage in their contract makes it legal to charge customers for factors over which they have no control, I can't say. It certainly isn't ethical. Joe Modes, the so-called customer coordinator who visited me three months prior to my move and who was supposedly trained for his position, should have concluded that the size of the van would have been an issue if he had any concept of his job, the size of the van, and the size of my parking lot! The van barely fit onto the street that was adjacent to my new home, so it doesn't take a genius to conclude that it wouldn't fit into a space half that size. With three months to spare, I think someone should have considered that probability. I informed Joe Modes' supervisor, who's name I neglected to request, that all JK Moving Company's employees involved in my move said that Joe should have been aware that the van wouldn't fit the allowed space. I added that representatives of other moving companies told me that they would not have charged their customers for such an oversight on their parts or on the parts of their employees. He responded by referring to the catch-all phrase in in the company contract that makes customers responsible for everything and claimed that JK's employees and the representatives of other companies with whom I spoke had all lied. In response to his question about why I didn't hire another moving company if I felt that the added charge was unfair, I pointed out that I was notified of that charge an hour before the move was to take place and that I was required to vacate the premises efore the next morning. That left me few options. When this unnamed supervisor alluded to the fact that I told Joe Modes that I had seen large vans enter and leave my development, I concurred but pointed out that, unlike their van, none of them were the size of the Titanic. He finally agreed to reduce the penalty to $600. Having no recourse, I tentatively accepted his proposal. I see no reason why I should be forced to pay for someone else's mistake. read more

I had high hopes for JK and things started out well but then went downhill. We were moving from MD to SC, a move which took 4 days and 3 different crews and cost about $9k. The packing crew was OK but to be honest, they packed up everything that wasn't bolted to the floor (literally everything) and it was very poorly labeled so when it came time to find the 'priority stuff' later, it was very difficult. Everything appears to have arrived in tact which is good but i am not sure they needed to individually wrap spools of thread in 2 sheets of paper. Seems wasteful and was really inefficient on the other end. I will say the crew that loaded the truck on day 2 was very professional, polite and hardworking. They did their work and they did it efficiently. It was the unloading crew we had a real problem with. What JK did not tell us is that they don't use their employees for unloading. They hire a local contract crew. We had 122 items to unload--most were going to our new place but some were going directly into storage. All 122 items were labeled - condo or storage. The contract crew repeatedly brought up items and boxes (i'm still finding them in fact) to our condo that were labeled storage and i would have to send them back down to the truck. I also identified 2-3 additional boxes that i wanted to send to storage. After the second box of that type, the contract crew guy told me that he would not take any more items back down to the truck, "if it comes up, it stays." additionally, they basically piled boxes and furniture haphazardly with no attention to where they actually go. After they finished unloading, they did a very cursory ask to see if we were happy with where things were placed but most of the crew was already in the truck ready to go to storage. I could tell they didn't really care if we were happy and they weren't going to do anything else if we weren't. a week later, i am still looking for things that i'm pretty sure were brought to storage that should have been brought to my condo and still finding stuff that i'll need to transport to storage myself. I complained to JK with little to no response or action. after all, we have already paid, what do they care if we are happy? I have very little experience with long distance movers but i know i would not use JK again knowing what i know now. read more

JK Moving did my move from Wash DC to Denver. It has been awhile since I moved, so I was nervous that I was forgetting things. Too many Dateline shows, I was also nervous about my stuff showing up in good condition or even at all. My mother in law book these guys to help her move a three floor house to another similarly sized house within 7 hours. Not only were these guys on time, but they were fully equipped to pack, load the truck, and unload the truck. The only thing required from us was to take some of the more fragile items in the car with us and basically stay out of the way. They handled all items with care, took their time to carefully wrap and protect the furniture to prevent scratches and damage, and they heeded all instruction given by their client. I also move professionally, and based off of the knowledge I've gained in the field, these guys are good at what they do and they know their stuff. Highly recommended. read more

TL;DR: If you want a moving company that will deliver your stuff later than promised and try to gouge you for 25 percent more than their estimate, all while being consistently unresponsive to questions, JK Moving is a great choice. JK came to our (small) apartment, looked at everything we own, and estimated the weight of our possessions at 4,400 pounds. Between that estimate and our move date, we got rid of about 500 pounds of possessions -- several hundred books, a coffee table, an end table, a desk, a large/heavy desk chair, etc etc. Lots of stuff. So if their estimate was accurate, there should have been about 3900 pounds for them to load up on move day. Then they came, and packed up our stuff. Took a long time doing so -- so long that the office kept telling us they didn't know what was taking so long. Then they went silent. Two weeks went by, our delivery date kept getting pushed back, and the JK Moving coordinator who we had been assured would keep us informed didn't respond to questions we asked. It wasn't until I began publicly tweeting at JK that they began responding. And that's when the real trouble started: They didn't weigh our stuff on our move day, or even the day after. They weighed it nearly two weeks later, at which point they announced it weighed 5500 pounds -- 25 percent more than their estimate, and about 40% more if you factor in the stuff we got rid of. Bottom line: Either they weighed our stuff incorrectly, or their estimate was incompetently or dishonestly low. Anyway, they said we owed $2000 more than the estimate, and that we had to pay that before they'd unload our stuff. Now, federal regulations say they can only require payment of 110% of the estimate before delivery, and have to bill any additional amount. When we pointed this out to them, they again went silent. As I write this, JK Moving claims they will deliver our belongings tomorrow -- outside the delivery window they promised, by the way -- but has consistently refused to say they will follow federal regulations and relinquish our possessions upon payment of 110% of the original estimate. read more

There was no helpful information given in JK Moving's reply, just a reiteration of what I said before. I didn't have any more items to move than what I told them ahead of time during the phone estimate. BOTTOM LINE: Since this is what you guys do all day every day, seems like to me, as long as I am truthful about disclosing how much stuff I have, you should be able to give me a fairly accurate quote. My issue is that 10 calendar days is not enough time for someone to complete ALL that needs to be completed to submit a claim for moving damages. This is ESPECIALLY true when you are DOG TIRED from the move, and the move takes place in between the two biggest holidays of the year (Christmas and New Year's). And it is especially not helpful if YOUR OFFICE IS NOT EVEN OPEN ON ALL THOSE DAYS TO RECEIVE MY PHONE CALL (i.e. GET BACK TO ME), thus SHORTENING my 10 calendar day window EVEN FURTHER. Especially unfair was the fact that my 10 calendar day window included BOTH HOLIDAYS, which landed on weekdays, and the two weekends in between. Essentially, if I couldn't do it all within a day or two, I'm screwed! It would have been nice to have been given 10 BUSINESS DAYS instead (or more) so that I could have had adequate time to contact our project manager, et al to get all the information requested to make the claim. I'M JUST SAYING. This kind of paperwork and follow-up is extremely difficult to obtain when the whole world is on vacation! Over the years, we have made several major moves. JK Moving provided one of the most positive experiences we had in moving. From the first contact to when the movers drove off in the truck, everyone was respectful, reliable and professional. The sales representative was helpful in offering suggestions for improving our moving experience and saving us money. Since we were moving a valuable art collection, they worked with the art packers in making sure our collection was not damaged. It's the first time we have had no major damage to our belongings. The 2 movers were great but THE COMPANY overcharges with a lot of hidden fees. For example, they charge a $150 travel fee to go to your place and get back to their office on top of the actual hours done. The moving consultants are not straightforward and are just after a sale. In February 2019 JK Moving moved our belonging from Baltimore to Boston. They were wonderful to work with. They gave us very clear directions on how to get organized for the move and then they arrived at our house in Baltimore on time and very professionally and politely packed us and drove to Boston. We flew up the next day and they arrived as promised within the window they gave us. A very professional and polite crew unpacked us. Even though there was a light snow falling none of our belonging got wet. The teams make extensive use of coverings to protect floors and carpets so neither in Baltimore nor in Boston was there any tracking. They exceeded our expectations. It's taken me 5 months to cool off enough to write a review. Jk moving services was recommended to us. We lived in a high rise condo in Providence and they were to move us to another high rise in Orlando. They arrived late with 3/4 full truck. They jammed packed all they could in spite of me telling them that our stuff wouldn't fit. They had to call for another truck to finish packing our stuff late into the night. They arrived on time for delivery but all of our stuff was crushed or broken. Every wardrobe box was crushed. We had crystal glassesand beautiful vases that were broken. Please understand we are not strangers to moving companies because we were in the navy for years. This company didn't care about our belongings at all. I even remember that our concierge heard a loud crack as they were forcing boxes in the truck and he told the mover and the mover said, "they have insurance." I will never use them again but it doesn't make up for our losses. read more

I moved locally (down the street) today with JK movers. I am really happy with the movers themselves who lugged boxes and furniture for me for 9 hours today!!! They were careful, relentless and professional and really GREAT over all. If i had to rate the movers alone i would give them 4 stars. However yesterday I also had another team of (pre-move) packers who came to help me finish putting everything into boxes. That team gets 0 stars... The packers were terrible!!!! They just threw my clothes into the boxes, along with other miscellaneous objects like a straw basket (!!!?!!). The team of packers were too expensive and completely un-trained. SO my advice would be: yes, ask these movers to move you. But DO NOT ask for the (pre-move) packing services. read more

I would recommend looking for other movers. We used JK moving from DC to Chicago and were very disappointed with the move. Our boxes were handled carelessly, movers that arrived to move us into Chicago were unprofessional, refused to assemble items like our bed frame, shelving and desk (that were in our contract) and wouldn't even use protective covering on our floor. The movers that arrived at our home even criticized their own colleagues that moved us out of DC. When these issues were brought up to JK, customer service did arrange for a service to assemble our items but nothing else was offered as a goodwill gesture of the terrible service. read more

My experience with JK Moving Service was very disappointing when I used them last year. Their moving consultant appeared to be professional in his two visits to give me an estimate. That was the extent of it. He gave me an initial non-binding estimate of $3,912 for an estimated weight of 7,581 lbs for a local move. Based on quote from another company, JK's weight looked under-estimated. So, I asked the consultant to come back and do a second inventory which he did. The new non-binding estimate was $4,425 for 10,000 lbs which included a few furniture he missed in his first visit. The consultant assured me that his estimate is more than 95% reliable. However, JK charged me $5,548 plus $300 for the insurance (optional) after the move. The $5,548 was 25% more than the consultant's second estimate! When I asked the consultant, his response was that the packing took longer and that I had already paid the money which implied that I agreed to the increased charge. Advice: never trust the non-binding price from JK Moving and don't pay the bill if you disagree until the issues are resolved. The consultant did not appear to be professional or timely in my dealings other than the times he came to give an estimate. After the move and unpacking, we realized JK did such a poor job in packing. They paid more attention to packing toothpick compared to breakable items. They mixed unrelated items in the same box which made it very difficult to locate items while unpacking. Several items broke because of poor packing. The movers they sent for the job are mostly new and young, not experienced, who are really underpaid while the company is making huge money. They use unethical tactics to make money, for example, they would use a huge raping paper just for one shot glass, so that it will accumulates into a big box, so that they can charge the price as a big box. NEVER AGAIN!!!!! As stressful as a move is and can be, the worst thing is to have your furniture broken and having to watch the moving crew and supervise them. I had to tell them not to roll the heavy dolly on ceramic tile flooring because It will surely broke or crack the tile. Even after doing that, they still managed to crack two of my floor tiles. Although they lay covering on the floor, they will leave your house with dirt everywhere to have you clean it up. We had great hopes for JK but they disappointed. They present very well but the execution of the move left a lot to be desired on JK's operations side. The moving crew was most accommodating and resourceful but our perception was that the communication and support from operations was poor and disorganized. There was also insufficient follow-up leading up to the move. Furthermore, I was stunned to learn that full payment was expected before seeing an itemized bill, which in our case, needed to be corrected as well. My husband and I used JK Moving Services for our move from Silver Spring, Maryland to Colorado Springs, Colorado. RED FLAGS WE MISSED: 1 After taking bids from several other moving companies, EZ Storage of Maryland recommended Mr. Philbin of J.K. Moving. We advised J.K Moving that we were closing on our new home in Colorado Springs on January 2017. On November 14, 2016 @4:00pm we gave Mr. Philbin a $200 deposit based on his estimate of our move to Colorado Springs at a cost of approx. $7.497.00 which would include one month J.K. Moving free storage at their Gaithersburg facility- the free storage and the estimated price sealed the deal for us. However, on November 17, 2016 at 11:19 am, Mr. Philbin sent us a revised agreement with his apology that his math on the approved original estimate agreement was wrong which he based on 9 pallets, 1 overflow and travel for a new estimated charge of now $9,107.00. We were not happy, however, after some discussion about the FREE 1 month storage with Mr. Philbin and other J.K Moving staff we were assured that based on the new price they would not change us of a few extra days over the 30 day free storage window if we needed. That was a lie? 2. On November 15, 2016 at 11:31 am we received an email from Ms. Perrotta, our "Move Coordinator" telling us that our Storage in Date would be: 12/12/2016 between 8:00-10:00 am. The move out went well. No problems with the moving crew who packed our 2 large screen TV's and one small flat screen TV and moved 7 total pallets worth of our belonging to J.K. Moving storage pending transport to Colorado Springs in January 2017. My husband and I moved from Silver Spring, Maryland the next week to oversee our final phases left to build our new home and closing. 3. On January 16, 2017 at 7:49 am we received another email from Ms. Perrotta reaffirming our delivery window in Colorado Springs of 01/21/2017 thru 01/28/2017. In this email she advised Quote, "We will contract you 1 day prior to the actual delivery ..." unquote. Our final weight for our shipment would be told to us prior to its arrival so we could be prepared for its delivery. 4. Early in the morning on January 25, 2017 and without prior notice of either the final actual moving cost or one day advanced notice of delivery date as promised we woke to surprisingly find a very large J.K. Moving Van blocking our new neighbors drive way. 5. My husband and I had spoken to our "Moving Consultant", Mr. Phil Philbin, the night prior to this surprise delivery. He informed us he had no idea of the delivery date but would find out and call us the very next day. JK moving van showed up the next morning unannounced. We were not prepared and todate we have never heard from Mr. Philbin again. 6. We had no idea of what the final (weighed) moving cost would be so we called J.K. Moving and spoke to a very rude and unprofessional women who proceeded to tell me Quote: "we (J.K. Moving) can have them (the moving crew) just leave and come back tomorrow! ... (if we could not pay the bill(" Unquote. How ridiculous, we were waiting to hear from them what we owned based on the final weight down from 9 pallets to only 7 actual pallets with no overflow needed. 7. My husband and I were surprised since Mr. Philbin our J.K Moving consultant had advised us that the estimate should have been lower since we now known they would be moving only 7 pallets not the original 9 pallets with NO overflow. However, the day of the delivery we were given a amount and told to pay it or J.K. Moving would take our belongs away. I had to find out from the J.K. Moving's east coast office manager what the actual final cost was that very morning. I then had to special request a few days later a copy of the actual invoice.from Ms. Smith since we had never seen one! THE MOVING CREW DID NOT HAVE A COPY TO SHOW US!!! ACTION TAKEN: We setup a Conference call with JK Movers from Colorado Springs. During our conference call with Mr. Grass, General Manager and Ms. Smith it was agree that J.K Movers would refund back to our credit card the overcharge of $352.80 for the one month free storage agreed to under our contract. We were also informed that our verbal agreement with Mr. Philbin (again confirmed prior to our move and again during our visit to the J.K. Moving facilities in Gaithersburg by several other J.K. No one should have their move turn into a "learning experience" for a company that claims to market themselves as "professional." They didn't even arrive with a JK moving truck or tools to put together the furniture. These "trained" professionals require more training. It upsets me that this move has cost me so much financially and emotionally. My heart would only break further if another customer had to relive the same type of move and aftermath I have had to deal with. Again, I urge anyone thinking about moving with this company to think twice. Moreover, it needs to be said that BBB has given them an excellent rating. This is only because they have reconciled with the people who have made claims with the BBB. If a company reconciles with those persons, BBB, can continue to extend their high rating.
