Visited SUSHIONE X JJAJANG1980 in North York, which offers a mix of Korean-Chinese dishes and sushi. Residential parking is available nearby, about a 5-minute walk. The restaurant isn't very large, so it's worth calling ahead during peak times. Service was very good. The staff were friendly and checked in regularly.
There are three menus: SushiOne, JJAJANG1980, and a SushiOne Lunch Specials menu. We tried a couple of their special rolls, which are currently 20% off.
Snow Sakura ($16.00, reg. $19.99)
Torched white tuna on top, with scallop, tempura bits, cucumber, and tobiko inside. Sauced with BBQ, spicy mayo, and their house blend. Fresh and well-balanced, with flavor that didn't overpower the ingredients.
Super Salmon ($14.50, reg. $17.99)
Spicy salmon inside, salmon on top, with tobiko, cucumber, and tempura bits. Good texture, clean taste. Both rolls had a great rice-to-filling ratio and were carefully made.
I've also tried the Kalbi Jjajang ($18.50) and Rose Jjamppong ($18.50). The jjajang had rich flavor and tender kalbi, but I do think it could use a better noodle-to-onion ratio. It leaned a little onion-heavy, and since the price increases depending on protein type, it'd be nice to see more of it in the dish. The rose jjampong was creamy, spicy, and satisfying, with seafood and sausage. The flavor was great, but topping portion-wise, it felt light since there was only two pieces of sausage and about half a handful of mussels.
I'd definitely come back to try more from both menus. The sushi was excellent, and the jjajang and jjampong were solid comfort dishes. Worth a visit. read more
