Portion wise, the combo meal was a little bit small but understandable for businesses trying to navigate through tough times. We got the bicol Express and another pork dish with shrimp paste. The pork used in these dishes were very fatty so unfortunately, most of the meat was not edible. A little more attention to the meat selection will go a long way for patrons to enjoy their hot table food. The highlight was the beef pares noodles soup. Took some time for them to prepare it, but well worth the wait. The broth was satisfying, and noodles cooked extra soft for my mother-in-law. The beef brisket was tender and seasoned well. Overall, it was a nice first experience at this local restaurant . I will visit again soon when craving some chicken Lomi or beef pares. The spicy broth tasted like a mix of Buldak sauce and Capsaicin, but didn't have much depth. I finished my ramen, broth and all and enjoyed most of the experience. The least favorite was the chasu and the egg as chasu did not taste fresh, and I could not taste the char on them at all. The egg was over-cooked and under marinated which was disappointing. It's still one of the few ramen options in Durham but can't say it's comparable to the other Kenzo locations.

The pork dish was good too but the flavors didn't wow me. Maybe I should have ordered something spicier - although adding the chili spice helped a lot. The soup buns (5 buns/order) were amazing - super hot (temperature wise) and very tasty. We were almost too full to finish them. All ingredients seemed super fresh. Always cool to see the noodles being made - just be prepared for loud noises, especially if you have your back turned away from the counter. I guess other hand pulled noodle places I've been to there's some sort of separation or glassed in area to see them being pulled, but when the dough gets slammed onto the counter it's quite loud. Let's get in to ... first, off currently Aug 2019, there is construction on the roads around the strip that Noodle Me is within, so it took us a while just to get in to the parking lot. Then we noticed there isn't a whole lot of parking. Maybe some across the street. But keep that in mind if you are driving over. Once we got in, the place is a nice small place. Does have lots of sitting, but slightly packed to fill more people. The staff was very friendly and the menu had nice photos for some of their meals to entice the new comers. So myself, my wife and my sister in law went in new. Ordered the wonton soup, combo lo-mein and their steam buns (thought they were dumplings). - The Wonton soup brother was very good. Noodles, not really anything to overly rave about and wontons were plenty. So an overall good dish. - The Combo Lo-Mein, was quite good. Enjoyed the noodles and a good variety of meat and vegetables. The odd part, wasn't exactly mixed up. Noodles on one side, veggies on a another side and meat. A bit of work to mix it all. So that assumes that all of it was not fully cooked together, which I feel helps to get more of the flavour across all of the ingredients, but to each their own. - and the Steam Buns, those were quite good. The dough was pretty thick for the small appetizers But a good overall. I will say the overall flavour is good and wouldn't hesitate to visit again if I'm in the area, but wouldn't drive across the city for it.

Our server, Sophia, was bubbly and friendly, giving suggestions and helping with the ordering process for the other person who wasn't as sure what they wanted. We eventually went with two appetizers and two entrees, which was more than enough food, and honestly, we could have only ordered one appetizer. The better of the two appetizers was the CAD 8.95 Hand Shredded Pepper Chicken/手撕椒麻雞/Shou Si Ji. The dish consists of cold chicken in a flavorful sauce, topped with some greens. The chicken was tender, with a mild, pleasant spice and a bit of numbingness from the Sichuan peppercorns, along with some fragrance, presumably from sesame oil. It reminded me a bit of salivating chicken you find in some Szechuan spots, but it was more aromatic and a bit less spicy. The other appetizer was the Steamed Edamame/岩鹽毛豆 with Himalayan pink salt for CAD 5.95. The other person chose between this and the vegetable dumplings, as he avoids pork, and it was, of course, lighter than the other appetizer. The decent portion of edamame was topped with some pickled carrots as a garnish. My main dish was the Braised Beef Noodles/紅燒牛肉面/Hong Shao Niu Rou Mian. The dish included several options, including size, noodle style, and spice level. I chose the large for CAD $20.95, medium spice, and for the noodle style, I chose flat/宽面, as it was closest to the prism style I like at Lanzhou spots in the States. Along with these, I also added a tea egg for an extra CAD 2.95. Outside the add-on, the dish also had a couple of large slices of radish. Compared to some spots in NYC, I slightly preferred the QQ/bouncy texture of the noodles at a spot near me. However, the broth was better here with a balanced amount of mala, though I would likely order spicy next time, as I tend to add chili oil to the relatively lighter Lanzhou broths. The beef was also much better, being tender with a mild chew regardless of whether it was tendon or other cuts. The tea egg was flavorful and worth the add-on, especially when the inside was dipped further into the broth. I can see why others order this. The other person went with the Signature Stir-fried Noodles/招牌炒面/Chao Tatiaozi. There was an option of protein, and he went with Chicken for $17.95 and added the same egg. I tried a bit, and there was a pleasant pepperiness with a bit of numbing flavor, but less than my dish. The noodles had a good bounciness and overall had a slightly better chewiness than mine. This was lighter overall, but also tasty. This spot has apparently come to the US already at the Mall of America, and I would love it if there were a location closer to me. Good place.
