Went through the drive thru just before midnight on a Saturday night and placed a $75 order. Order came out quickly (they weren't busy) but I have to complain about the portion size. I really hate to complain because I love Jim's Stakeout, I've been a customer for over 20 years but primarily at the Allentown and Elmwood locations. I ordered an 8" chicken Diavlo and packaged up, it felt light, once opened, my goodness, it looked almost empty and since we already drove off, I just ate it but I was so disappointed. I firmly believe that the original location is best but both the West Side of Buffalo locations are the better than the others. This particular order at the Amherst location on Transit, we were all disappointed and we ordered 5 hoagies, a wrap and two orders of fries. Not sure what's going on at this location but they have to do better. They have some great steak subs and this location just makes them look bad. read more

Ok here goes it, my first 2 star review ever, I've made 1 star reviews before, never a 2 star. You cannot ignore the great taste of the Jim's famous steak hoagie... However ladies and gentlemen, they've disappointed me twice so far in a 3 day span. I haven't been to Jim's steak out since about last year, but when I first tried it about 6 or 7 years ago... I took a few bites and BAM, IM CRUNCHING IN TO NOTHING BUT LETTUCE AND TOMATOES WITH A SMALL LAYER OF MEAT ON THE SANDWICH. THEY BUFFED THE SANDWICH WITH EXTRA LETTUCE AND TOMATOES TO MAKE IT LOOK LIKE A NICE MEATY SANDWICH :) BOY WAS I WRONG. So today I come in, ask for light lettuce and tomatoes they did a good job there, however they were also LIGHT on the MEAT AGAIN ! What happened from last year till now!? I NOTICED THE PRICE JUMP! I ordered a cheeseburger from this location via the drive thru and it was served to me RAW! I called and let the staff know to prevent someone else from getting sick from eating raw meat. Never again. For $13 the Stinger was a big disappointment and a rip off. So much for being adventurous. So much for supporting a local chain instead of nationwide franchise Subway. Ordered online for drive-thru pickup. You can order for pickup or delivery. The online ordering system is easy to use, allowing you to customize what you are ordering. You can pre-order for a specific time or have your order started right away. I ordered two hot subs, Steak & Cheese and Italian Sausage & Cheese with dressing on the side and Poutine. Both subs and the poutine tasted good. The meat on the steak sub was not just shaved steak like many other places use but thicker slices. Only complaint was there was a fair amount of gristle in the meat. I don't mind marbling in steak because that is where a lot of flavor is but chewy, inedible gristle is not acceptable. For this reason I do not recommend their signature Steak & Cheese unless you run out of chewing gum. I will still go back but stick to the cold subs. read more

Most Buffalonians know Jim's Steakout. If you have ever been over-served beverages downtown or around Allen Street, you have probably stopped at Jim's Steakout (you may not remember but your credit card says you did)!. To be honest, it has been years since I've been there. I love a good steak sub but there are no locations very close to where we live and I never think about stopping by. We just happened to be in the Northtowns at 1:00 am and craved food, so we stopped at Jim's because it was on the way home. We ordered the BLT sub and a stinger. Let me tell you, that sub (at least that night) was the most delicious BLT I have ever had. The bacon was chopped up with the tomato and lettuce so every bit had bacon goodness. The stinger was also good, hearty and contained the grease that we needed! Will I ever go there during lunch or dinner hours without having a belly full of beverages? We've been here a few times for subs, usually hot subs. I normally get the Italian sausage sub, italian sausage smothered in melted provolone cheese and hot peppers. Can't go wrong with food from Jim's steak out. Their greasy, fattening, delicious hangover food is spot on. Especially after a night of drinking and needing someplace quick and open at 2am! Everything from the traditional Buffalo chicken finger subs to chicken or steak hoagies, salads, etc. You have to keep in mind that service is going to be what you would expect it to be... It's a bunch of teenagers that are working minimum wage in long hours through the night. Best chicken finger sub around! Love their fries too! Great after drinking!! Quick service

Yes they're open til like 4am or 5am or something ridiculous, but don't come in at that time, otherwise you'll see "Jim's Snake Out." He exposes himself at the same time of night, every night. It's like an added bonus for the last of the customers (literally, for them) if you're into that sort of thing. Personally I'm not. I like my guys a little younger, a little more exotic, and a little less well endowed. This Jim's Steak Out is like all the other ones. The best one is on Sheridan (near Sweet Home) and earns a 5-star rating for better-tasting food than all the others and better service. The worst one is on Sheridan near Colvin, for having the angriest owner and worst service and iffy food. The mediocre ones are downtown, on Allen and Chippewa. They're not bad, but they're too busy, too mesy, and service is iffy. This location is more like the best ones. It has pretty good service, it's nice and quiet, it's clean, it has cute decor which I took lots of pix of. I usually get the Jim's Deluxe which has everything on it. It's a cheesesteak with onions, mushrooms, you name it. It's heavy and delicious and huge. You can now get a half version or a bread roll version which is much smaller and a bit cheaper. Then they have tacos, which are like Taco Bell or Mighty Taco, but way tastier. You can compare them to Elmwood Taco on, er, Elmwood. They're tasty and well worth getting, and very wallet friendly too. $2 for beef, $3 for steak or chicken. None of them are amazing, but all of them will do the trick, but always ask for extra medium taco sauce on them. It's hard to give Jim's a 5 because even though some of the sandwiches are 5 star and the hours are 5 star, you can tell they use store-bought tortillas and ingredients straight from bags and the freezer. That's okay, for these prices you can't complain. But I'm going to keep the 5-star rating for the one location that tastes better than all others and where service goes above and beyond, and I'm gonna give this one a 4. But at 4am, in East Amherst, you really have no other option that is as decent as this. Speaking of decent. If you happen to see Jim's Snake Out, please snap a picture. It would be damn decent of you to record such an indecent escapade. And if you end up in legal troubles I'm sure you can "worm" your way out of it. You might even like the way it looks. It might make you slippery, like a snake. I mean, it might. Who knows. You never know until you try it. And on that note, I have to go jump out of a plane without a parachute. Will I survive? I've loved coming here since I was in highschool after a late night out. I still eat from here all the time! What originally got me was the macaroni bits oh my goodness to die for!!! I still always get a Jim's Bleu and I am never let down. The sweet potato fries with honey are amazing! Also the onion rings, whenever i'm debating on a place to quickly grab a bite to eat, Jim's is always the winner! Ok so I'm only giving this particular experience 2 stars Reasons being :1) 2 stars is being generous because they will reflect the positive. And That is the amount put in the steak, Cheese, onion, & spinach Hoag was quite adequate. 2) The negative side of the rating is because of the enormous amounts of grizzle on the steak. Every other bite , I was pulling it off the sandwich. Nothing worse for me is biting into an otherwise good sandwich and having to grab Un-chewable hard fat pieces. Maybe if I was drunk I wouldn't have noticed. I hope this is fixed for future visits. I'm a strong advocate for supporting local businesses. I've been coming to Jim's steakout for over 25 years. Chicken finger is usually my favorite. We went to the Transit rd Jim's today (6/16/23), and it was borderline terrible. The chicken on the sub was hard and not fresh. There was way too much sauce on the sub, and it was all leaked to the side. Way more than usual sauce. And they never gave me my side of blue cheese that I ordered. Without the blue cheese on side, the sun just isn't as good. Extremely disappointing, and I won't be back. read more

If you live in Buffalo and have never been to a Jim's Steakout location, you truly aren't living here. I've been enjoying their food since the Elmwood location by Buff State was it. The Transit location is more centrally located for me and I'm happy for its existence. The management and staff at this location are great. They are helpful, quick, clean, and attentive. Really, what more could you ask for? Maybe a drive through when you need a 2am sub fix -- well they have that too. This location has enough seating for about 35 people. Seating is mostly hardback booths and tables with chairs. The pop machine, napkins, and utensils are in the same room, you'll never feel like you are cutting the line to ask for something extra. Bathrooms are located down a hallway, just off the dining area, and are always clean. The dining area has TVs and a few places to dispose of your trash. It also has a second door that feeds the exit, so you won't need to disturb the patrons in line on your way out. They are great for familys, small groups, and kids. The menu offers a lot of options. This is more a review about this location, check online for their full menu. I will recommend the steak sub and chicken finger sub (hot with blue cheese). Prices are great, around $10 for a full sub. Arrived in Buffalo late and needed to get some food. Apparently just about everything closes early in the area so we decided to come here. Reviews were decent on yelp and menu looked alright. We got our food and it was just okay. This place was busy especially the drive thru so many people must love it or perhaps settles on it since it's open late. Leave it to the suburbs to take a late night-post drinking establishment and turn into a lunch spot with a drive-thru. I'm giving this location a 3 star rating, not based upon the food because it's Jim's, what can you expect. The 3 star rating is for the service. My favorites right now are the (single) chicken finger wrap, Buffalo style and the philly wrap. These items are affordable and just the right size if you have the taste for a few different things. My other go to is and was always the poutine fries however with the shop opening on Allen I haven't gotten them here since. Usually when things are brought out to the suburbs you come to find out that service levels go up, the staff are friendly, the shop is more efficient and things just seem to go smoothly....sadly this is not case here. I come here because I work out in Getzville, so being in the Sahara of food deserts for many years I've come to find places with fast food or near another place that I visit or do business. Is my bank nearby? What about a store? A Starbucks? I need a quick hit, something that will allow me make a lunch run and come back in time as long as there are no traffic concerns. This is NOT the case for this location and actually think I've received better service downtown wither I've been drunk or sober! The drive-thru is anything but fast and the person, often an older woman is never ready to take your order when you pull up, once she takes it she's a tad short with you and even when there are a few cars or one car in front of you there is a wait. I understand this is not truly fast food but if you're going to operate a window maybe have some more pre-prepped food available? You want to keep your traffic moving swiftly and you want your customers coming back. More often than not I've seen a car or two from behind me pull away, sometimes not placing an order or sometimes they have. So my suggestion, if you are coming here on your lunch break, you may want to make sure you have a few extra 10 mins or so to spare. read more

It's the bomb dot com and I love the fries too. Fat, crispy ones. My only complaint is they have a rewards program (a fat credit style card) , but no one ever reminds me to use it! This experience was alright for me. My friends and I came here for a post-midnight snack. We ordered famous steak hoagies, sweet potato fries and onion rings. We had two orders of sweet potato fries; one of the orders were perfectly fried and the other was a little burnt. Regardless, they tasted amazing. The onion rings were delicious as well. However, the steak hoagies were not as good as we expected them to be. I can't really explain what was wrong because I don't have anything to compare it to. But, one of my friends had a stomachache and threw up a little the next morning. I found the shop to be a little dirty. They had about, lets say, 10 tables and 8/10 were not wiped down. There was either sauce or crumbs on most of the tables. That made seating very difficult. The staff should be more mindful of customers leaving and clean the area where the customers were seated.
