So my daughter and I are trying different restaurants and diners for breakfast. We've been to James Brown's place, Cracker Barrel and now my turn to pick. I picked this place. Neither of us have been here and that's the fun of it. To try different places. I remember when this place was on Winton Rd. It was always packed. Always. But it was so small. They left and are now on E. Main St. near Alexander. It was about 11 o'clock on a Saturday and was packed. Waited about 30 minutes for a booth. I had a frittata with bacon, ham, sausage, cheese and home fries mixed in with the eggs. Pumpernickel toast and a strawberry milkshake. Yes a milkshake with breakfast. My daughter had 2 eggs, 2 sausage patties, 2 french toast and pumpernickel toast and OJ. I liked my frittata. The ham really stood out. It tasted smoky and I really liked the flavor. Couldn't really taste the bacon. The sausage was flavorful. I thought the home fries were old. Sitting on the grille too long. Same thing at James Brown's place. I don't like the flavor of old home fries. They were hidden in with the other ingredients but I could taste it. I didn't think the strawberry milkshake was very thick. It was average at best. My daughter loved her breakfast. Eggs cooked perfectly. Sausage patties cooked through and not dry. She loved the french toast with lots of maple syrup. I thought it was a little pricy for breakfast. $30.00 with tax and tip. I gave it 4 stars because of the wait staff. Very nice and friendly and we felt like we were long time customers. While the staff was friendly, and our food was ready mere minutes after we ordered it, our experience was frustrating and subpar. The "Greek" yogurt we ordered was just normal, runny American-style yogurt. One of our water glasses had been inadequately rinsed, leaving the water tasting of soap. Soon after sitting down, I discovered that the floor under our booth was covered in strawberry jelly, and spent a good amount of my time there cleaning it out of the treads of my shoes with a butter knife. When I showed this to the server, I was offered extra napkins, but no attempt was made to clean up the mess, which would have only taken a quick swipe with a wet mop. While my wife and three-year-old son got up to wait in a surprisingly long line for the bathroom, I got up to use the ATM in the entryway, as this restaurant is cash-only. So they wouldn't think we were done with our meal, or had left without paying, we left our bags in the booth. Regardless, I returned less than a minute later to find that they had cleared the table (still no cleanup of the jelly, of course), and were preparing to seat other customers, despite the fact that our belongings were still in the booth. Lest you think our experience was due to one poor employee, there was a large black and white photo of our server on the wall, alongside other portraits of what appear to be the owner's family. My guess is that this server is not just an employee, but a relative of the owner (or even the owner herself). My guess is that this restaurant is usually pretty good, and that we were merely the unlucky victims of several uncharacteristic lapses in service, but a good restaurant would have offered us some kind of discount or refund. Instead, I paid in full for food that they stole from us before we could finish it. It is understandable that things sometimes go wrong in a busy restaurant, and I will happily forgive mistakes if a sincere effort is made to correct the situation. I went there for the first time the other day and wow.. I was impressed. I went here for lunch with an old friend of mine that I hadn't seen in a while. She recommended this place because this is where she would go for breakfast back when she was in high school. The staff was incredibly nice. The food was perfect. I had no complaints it was very well prepared and tasted amazing. It tasted like my mother made it in our own kitchen LOL. (that's a good thing, it tastes home made) The only thing that bothered me is that they just like most diners, this place doesn't accept credit cards. I completely understand why they don't. But me being a millennial I can't really remember the last time I carried cash with me. I recommend this place, I can't wait to go back and this time I'm bringing my family. read more

You can't beat the value and to the people that complain about them not accepting credit cards...you obv have never owned a business as you'd realize that card fees end up cutting into your profit pretty bad and in a place like this, offering such a value, there isn't much profit margined into things in the first place. The food was good enough, I had the corned beef hash. The pumpernickel bread wasn't anything special and it lacked butter. But, the best part of our breakfast was watching the cooks! We were seated at the counter and I'm so glad for that. Watching these 2 cooks was like watching a well rehearsed dance. They barely spoke but knew what the other was doing at all times. Jim's on Main in one of those whole-in-wall places that you will find in downtown Rochester. It's smack in the middle of nowhere, but close to everywhere and easy to miss if you're not looking. The staff seems to all be family and that's how you are treated when you're there. I highly recommend the cinnamon Texas French toast, it's the best!
