We are Golden Fox regulars for the last 6 years (an average of 2x per month). When the new owners took it over the food seemed to be the same and was always consistently good. There are 2 waitresses that are always there on Sundays and both are great. This mornings visit was not good. We had a party of 4. It took about 40min for our food to come after ordering. Two of us ordered the chicken Benedict which we've had many times. This time there was one small chicken tender cut in half and split between the biscuit halves. The sausage gravy was cold and had slices of sausage links in it (I expect it to just have crumbled sausage). And it was lacking flavor. My partners poached eggs were over cooked. My hashbrowns were overcooked and just tasted like they had been sitting in old oil. I barely touched them. And my mother in laws eggs over easy were also over cooked. Service was still good, we love the two regular waitresses! But if the food is going to be skimpier and not as good we won't continue to eat there. I'm leaving this review here because they don't have a website or Facebook page to message the owner. read more

How have I not reviewed Golden Fox?! One of the things that hasn't quite come back for me since before the pandemic is a regular weekend diner breakfast. I used to head to Golden Fox on the regular for awesome pancakes, omelettes, and much much more. The ownership here is amazing and they ensure you have a wonderful experience each and every time you stop by. The Greek omelette has my heart, but their pancakes and other savory fare is not to be missed as well. They do a big takeout game and parking couldn't be easier in their adjacent lot. This is a great reminder for me to get back out to breakfast SOON and support the local institutions that make our neighborhoods great. Looking forward to my next trip to Golden Fox! read more

I'll keep this one short. The food? BLAND. The place? PACKED. The staff? SCARED. I ordered a breakfast skillet. Mistake #1 they made here - it didn't come in a skillet. It came on a plate? Neither the eggs nor the home fries had any hint of being seasoned. The cheese was the only thing trying to carry the meal, and it failed. There was a little bit of sausage in there, and it wasn't noticeable. The Belgian waffle was soggy from the cinnamon apples, and my guest didn't like it. The worst part? The customer that they sat us next to, who was SCREAMING at someone on FaceTime for about half an hour, and used basically every cuss word you could think of on that call. It was visibly upsetting all of the other patrons, and the staff was aware but refused to say anything. Will not be back, there's plenty of other great diners in the area. I wish I could downgrade my review to zero stars, due to a condescending private message from the business. Joined a big group for a weekday breakfast at this place we had never been to. Once they set up a table in the back room and got the AC running we got down to ordering. Our waitress did a good job herding us. Many good choices on their menu. I ordered the 2x4 which was unusual since you get 4 pieces of meat in addition to eggs and in my case pancakes. It was standard diner fare. Good but nothing special though the prices were cheap. read more

The restaurant is under new ownership. The service was wonderful as always but the meals left a lot to be desired. In addition, there was an incredibly strong order of stale smoke. Not sure if it was lingering from another patron, but we were not sitting close to anyone. In addition, the building could us a cleaning & the walls need to be repaired where they removed some artwork. There are cobwebs all over the window sills. Overall - I'm not sure if they smoked inside during their 4 day closing while the new owners took over - Maybe they're still getting adjusted- we will likely try again but, this is not the same golden fox, unfortunately. A solid, venerable Rochester institution... I've been going to Golden Fox for almost thirty years now, ever since Dick Storms hepped me to it back in my Record Archive days. Nestled in the corner of Culver & Parsells, the GoFox (as we like to call it) is a gem in a neighborhood that has seen better times. While they've made subtle improvements over the years (expanded seating, new tile floor), the basics of the Fox have remained the same. Superb food, super friendly service and fair prices. Whether it's breakfast after church (my wife loooves their Eggs Benedict), a power lunch with friends (used to be the go-to place for our late Mayor Tom Ryan) or a casual dinner (Wednesdays and Thursdays for Greek specialties), the Golden Fox never fails to satisfy. Highlights: Moussaka (on Greek night), Sausage omelet (not on menu, ask for it though) and their legendary Eggs Benedict (my wife's a Hollandaise snob and she swears it's the best). I've been back to Golden Fox many times now and this is one solid spot for a great breakfast! The staff are wonderful people and the owner will make her rounds and say hello to guests. The space really has a family-run vibe. As for breakfasts, they have all the classics like tasty benedicts and omelettes (go for the Greek one!). I tend to stick to the classic 2-egg breakfast platters, opting for sausage over bacon, white toast, and overeasy eggs to dip the toast in. I'll also go for the country breakfast because I like their sausage gravy and biscuits. Definitely consider their specials too because those are some of the top daily picks and they'll feature somethings outside the norm, which can make for an adventurous (and indulgent) meal. Meaning, if they have stuffed french toast, get it! Lunch is awesome too - go for anything Greek and the turkey club is legit! Thick cut deli meat, yes please. The space has expanded over the years so they're able to pack in the masses and have lots of booths for the ideal group of 4 enjoying breakfast + lunch. I love the all-american breakfast any time of the day. Pancakes, bacon, eggs, yum! I was able to try this spot thanks to the brunch event by Yelp. This spot definitely has that family-run diner vibe, plenty of booths to hang out with your family and friends. I appreciated the fast and friendly service. ** update. It has been almost a year since I first tried The Golden fox and wrote a less than stunning review. I was contacted by the proprioter who suggested I give them another chance because thought they could do better. I dropped my wife off this morning for a flight out of town at 545 am and decided to head over for breakfast! But, they were closed,lol. I ran over to the market to kill time and came back at 7, sadly my review only made it up 1 star. I decided to keep it simple this time and that I'd shy away from the crazy spring powered bar stools. Unfortuantely the table section had its lights off and I don't enjoy sitting in a booth by myself, so spring power it was! Being forarmed with knowledge about these nutty stools I did manage to hurdle the thing and end up almost comfortable. I got a cup of coffee easy enough but asking for ice water as well got me a look. I browsed the menu but kept with idea that simple is good. I ordered 2 eggs over easy, toast, bacon and homefries. Eggs were fine, toast was fine, bacon was ok too. The homefries which were the star last time fell flat this time. They were greasy and some were not fully cooked. There were a ton of regulars about and they seemed to enjoy themselves so maybe it is just new comers or even just me who felt unwelcome. My breakfast came to 7.13 and I got some unhappiness that I didn't have the correct change when I cashed out. I think my regular diner is just a lucky find that makes others look less than they are. I'm used to paying 5.15 for the same meal cooked better, at a better bar, with friendlier waitresses that opens earlier. I did up things to 3 stars because while nothing was horriblem, nothing was particular good either. For my money The Golden Fox just at doesn't bring anything to the table compared to other diners. read more

Golden Fox, where do I begin?! Breakfast at anytime - yes please! Greek breakfast at that, even better! I swear, it's not because I married into a Greek family, I just know that the Greeks do gyros & breakfast the best! I have a few favorites here that I have taken photos of, but my ultimate menu favorite is the Deluxe Omelette. Peppers, onions, shroomies, bacon & cheese whipped up with 3 eggs and served with homefries (which are DELICIOUS) and an English muffin! Seriously, I can never finish this because the serving size is ginormous, but I always try to because it just tastes soooo good! My husband is a huge fan of their variety of Eggs Benedict (not a personal favorite, but hey, everyone has their own things!). This was my second time dining at Golden Fox and been happy both times. Service is friendly and food is decent. The place has a lot of regulars, you can tell by the interactions going on between the patrons and servers an even table to table. That's always a good sign of a reliable restaurant. We stopped in here following a morning at the public market. We were told it was national coffee day so coffee was only $.75 a cup. Two of us had 2 pancakes, one egg and two strips of bacon. The third had French toast. Of course we all had coffee. Our bill was only $19 with tax - a definite bargain. We sat a long time talking and catching up and our waitress just kept filling our cups. Even though it was a busy Saturday, we never felt rushed and I appreciate that. The eggs were cooked exactly how I like them and the pancakes were light and fluffy. Bacon was cooked perfectly. This is one of my two "go-to" breakfast spots. Like many of the other reviews said, it is your local neighborhood diner. The mix is eclectic with everyone from families, college kids, young punks, the reverend (who always seems to sit at the counter), senior citizens, white, black, brown, cyan, etc. You get the idea. And there is good reason, the place puts out quality food at a good value. The Greek family that runs the place has a good rapport with everyone, and they let their food do most of the talking. I often get their steak and eggs here, but the pancakes are a great option when I'm craving sweet instead of salty/savory. Golden Fox is a regular spot on my weekend breakfast rotation. I hit up 3-4 joints for breakfast with some regularity and this one has been on my hit list for a couple decades at least. There's a sameness and reliability about the place that keeps me coming back. I believe it's been owned by the same family for as long as I've been going since I've seen children of the staff grow up and start working there themselves. There are plenty of regulars but over the years some faces stay the same and others change. (Edit: Looking through the pictures here on Yelp I see one from a year ago showing a 43rd anniversary cake. That many years in business doesn't surprise me a bit.) One of the biggest pluses for GF is the size. There's always room to sit without more than a minutes wait. And for large gatherings they have a back room with tables that can easily be moved together. I've gone with groups as large as 18 which have been easily accommodated. Of course with that size of a group I always call them first as a courtesy to let them know in case they need to adjust staffing. So now to the food. It's always excellent, classic Greek Diner fare. I've never had a bad thing there. I've gotten into the habit of picking a regular order and sticking with it for a few years, but I do switch things up based on my level of hunger and mood, and with a wide range of choices there's always something appealing on their menu. I should mention that even though I've referred to them as a diner, it's really a Family Restaurant as the full name on the awning out front reads. So if you're familiar with that concept, you probably have a good idea of what else they offer besides breakfast. But please note they are only open for breakfast and lunch as far as I can recall anyhow. The staff is always very courteous and friendly. They're fast, but not to the point you feel rushed. Since it's been around so long and they have so many regulars there's always a jovial friendly vibe about the place. And it's not just the customers who are regulars. Other than family members, I've seen some staff here for over 10 years at least. The decor is plain Diner/Family Restaurant style with booths, tables and even a short counter with stools. The space itself is very open and relaxing. It's simply an extremely pleasant place to eat with a classic menu of tasty, well made food and friendly staff. I highly recommend it. read more

After several successful trips to the Golden Fox, they've now lost my business after our most recent visit. My daughter found a giant hair on her Belgian waffle, and while a woman I believe was the manager was quick to take it back to the kitchen and replace it, I lost my appetite and was pretty much unable to eat my own egg breakfast. When the waffle replacement came, both my son and daughter said it tasted "funny" -- I stuffed down my nausea and tried a bite to see what they meant, and indeed the waffles had an odd, sour aftertaste. We finished what we could and went to pay the bill. The manager (?) said chirpily, "Was everything OK?" and when I said "no, actually, it wasn't" she seemed surprised. I reminded her about the hair, told her that it had really put me off my meal, and said that even the hairless waffles weren't very good. She then offered to make me something to go. Umm, no...I don't want any more of your subpar food, thanks. She did not offer to take the waffle or anything else off the bill, which was the final straw for me. There are just far too many great diners in Rochester to bother with one that doesn't make an effort to satisfy their clientele. read more

Maybe it's just me, but I was not impressed by this place by any means. I've seen the many good reviews about this place and decided to try it for breakfast last week. The place is large, and I love the amount of seating they provide with big comfy booths. Fast and friendly service, but the food was not great... just good. The toast was my favorite part, their rye toast is great! I ordered the Italian frittata, and was so excited when it arrived because it looked great... but to my surprise was quite bland and dry. Manny and I split a short stack of chocolate chip pancakes and they were good. My friend Jackie actually got what poked very delicious - Stuffed french toast topped with raspberry sauce (on special ) she said it was very good. Very limited breakfast me u, they just offer the basics. Perhaps I will come back for lunch or dinner some time and re evaluate. read more

Golden Fox is my kind of joint, skip the glam and upscale crap (that you end up paying for) that other popular hip places in the city have and just give me some good food. I don't go to a restaurant to be pampered, I go to stuff my fat gullet. Fortunately, Golden Fox allows me to do this at a good price with bangin food. It's the simple things though, such as using oversized english muffins with the benedict (not the normal dinky sized ones).
