This is our go to place for breakfast since we moved. Their food is always consistently delicious so you know what to expect. I usually get two eggs over easy with potatoes, toast with a side of meat sauce. They got rid of hash browns due to the cost and have never brought them back so that is disappointing. They were one of the best around. Husband gets the corn beef hash or the 2 2 2 with pancakes eggs and meat. We have also been for lunch for a BLT or patty melt. It's usually cold inside so dress accordingly. There's something here for everyone. read more

Stopped into Mel's for a quick breakfast recently. Got the Country Omelette (sausage and cheese omelette with biscuits and gray and choice of potato). It was pretty good, not mind blowing, but not bad either. Asked for home fries, and I'm not sure what their version of home fries is, but they seemed like hash browns, which I'm not a fan of. My guest had the Waffle A La Mode. This waffle was perfect, and not soggy (like the ones at another area diner whose owner sent me a nasty message recently). Despite having ice cream, whipped cream, and syrup on top, the waffle held up great! Portions were very generous. Prices were higher than listed on their website, and pricier than other area diners. $25 for breakfast for 2 is a tad high. Went to Mel's for the first time this evening; the wife and I truly enjoyed our meal. We were greeted as soon as we walked in and made to feel welcomed. I tried Mel's Diner for the first time the other morning when a friend was in town and I regret not coming sooner. A quick three minute drive from me may make me a regular. Service was great -- I didn't feel rushed when looking the menu which some diners I get that feeling. Our server was attentive but not not overbearing. The food was like nothing else. I ordered the frittata and it was out of this world good. The flavors, crunch from potato's, and quality made it so delicious I would definitely order this again. We had a great time during our first visit to Mel's Diner. We definitely plan to come back. It was a cold, snowy Saturday morning and we went right around 9am. Peak hours...but we had no trouble finding a great parking spot. The inside was updated and clean. I liked how they let us pick our table in a specific section. The decor was cool and they had almost every extra you could need well organized on the table (jellies, sugar, ketchup, syrup, half and half). We thought the coffee was very tasty, though I think it is a little better at the Peppermill. I still enjoyed two delicious mugs, and they were refilled or topped off frequently. The waitress was very friendly, polite, and helpful. She even helped me pick the right cheese for my dish. Oh, and she complimented my hair. I also liked that water was brought out along with the coffee. I always want both and I liked that I didn't have to ask for it. I ordered the frittata which came with a side of toast. I chose white and enjoyed the toast (which was lightly grilled, sliced bigger than average, and perfectly buttered) so much. I have already been looking for chances to go back just to get more toast! The frittata, which came out very quickly, was full of yummy potatoes, green bell peppers, onions, tomatoes, sausage, fluffy scrambled eggs, and melted cheese. The sausage was plentiful and not too salty. Every time I moved the toast around my plate, I found more food! The only drawback was that it could have been just a smidge warmer. I also really enjoyed the tomatoes, but I feel like a lot of folks may not have liked so much of it. Love the food at Mel's! Sometimes you just crave diner food and Mel's always hits the spot. The portions are large and the prices are on point. I usually get the meatloaf platter or the chicken fried steak. It's as good as any diner I have been too..most times better. It's for sure one of the better diners in our area. I always order takeout and they never mess my order up. They are quick too. Many times it's been late at night and I had not eaten yet, Mel's has come through and had my order ready in 15mins. If I want to substitute something or have any other request. They are always more than happy to accommodate me. If there is one complaint I will say some of dishes are on the salty side, and if it wasn't for that. I would give Mel's 4 stars. It could just be the stuff I like all has gravy on it though, which is probably what is giving that extra dose of salt. read more

Went to dinner with my 91 year old mom, niece and nephew. The food was great, however, service was so-so. Our bill came to $57.19, we left a 20% tip of $12.00. I pay my mom's bills, and someone in that restaurant added $11.00 to the bill, therefore making the bill $68.19. This means that their server got a $23.00 tip, that they really didn't deserve. The restaurant does not believe we left a 20% tip of $12.00 and they have no way of knowing if we left the tip on the table. And they do not think their server did this either. We will never go Mel's after this situation. I guess the customer will never be right at Mel's Diner. read more

Have always had amazing service and quality with breakfast and lunch. That being said this past Friday when we came for their fish fry? Not so much? I don't know what their version of "haddock" is but it is not our version! Paid an enormous amount for 3 fish fry's which both of us and (1 to go) left pretty much untouched with NO BOX TO GO and I unfortunately had ordered an extra dinner for hubby! Waitress Debbie was nowhere to be found to ask how everything was and we had to go to the register for her to produce our check, she was busy cleaning and stocking at 2pm??? 3.5 I honestly don't know why it took me so long to give this place a chance, I drive past it every single day. I guess I was so skeptical because Athena's (the place previously there) was awful. And after the food nightmares in this building I was afraid of this being just another 1star. On to the review : Typical diner with typical diner foods. I'm a sucker for the simple things in life. The atmosphere was calm, relaxed, there were 2 waitresses and a manager with perhaps 5 tables of customers, I was free to grab any open booth I wanted so I went and sat down. The menu was brought to me and it had pretty much everything I expected, lots of sandwiches, wraps, omelettes, and a handful of entrees. I ordered a chicken wrap with a side of Mac Salad. While waiting for the meal I had the chance to glance around the room and took notice that 'most' of the customers were older, in the 70's range, and even so the people were cross table conversing. After that I noticed many of the people coming in being greeted by name. So if you happen to become a regular here, prepare to join the ranks. The place was incredibly comfy overall, and by the time my food came out I was pretty excited for it. It wasn't the BEST, but it got the job done. The wrap didn't have as much meat as I would have liked, it was about 95% lettuce, with a bit of chicken, but still enough to flavor it. The mac salad was pretty good, and the pickle slices they gave with the wrap were very fresh and crispy (I'm a bit of a pickle fiend, never give me bad pickles or I'll hate you forever) so I was happy with that. All in all it was what I'd consider about average, and for the cost (My meal was 8 dollars exactly +60 cents tax or so) it wasn't that bad at all. If you're driving past and need a bite, it wouldn't be a horrible choice. Side note : I didn't get one, but the deserts in the fridge looked pretty amazing, perhaps I'll stop by again for a pie some time. read more

I had been a regular patron at Mel's Diner for many years and always found it a nice place to eat. However, an issue with this diner arose several months ago and I felt that I should leave my comments. I went to Mel's with my sister, who lives in Webster, and who visited me in Greece. My dinner was fine but my sister's meal was disappointing. She had ordered a special advertised that day and it included olives. After picking through a quarter of the meal she showed me that it was loaded with olive pits. We brought this to the attention of the waitress who apologized, but did not offer either a replacement dinner or a refund. The next day I contacted Mel's through their website, explaining the situation. The person told me to give him my sister's address and he would contact her. This did not happen and he never replied to me again. I feel disappointed with the owner's of this diner who obviously didn't feel that customer service was important. I sent a final contact two weeks later stating that he had lost my patronage. This did not bring a response either. read more
