    Country Omelette
    Andrew A.

Stopped into Mel's for a quick breakfast recently. Got the Country Omelette (sausage and cheese omelette with biscuits and gray and choice of potato). It was pretty good, not mind blowing, but not bad either. Asked for home fries, and I'm not sure what their version of home fries is, but they seemed like hash browns, which I'm not a fan of. My guest had the Waffle A La Mode. This waffle was perfect, and not soggy (like the ones at another area diner whose owner sent me a nasty message recently). Despite having ice cream, whipped cream, and syrup on top, the waffle held up great! Portions were very generous. Prices were higher than listed on their website, and pricier than other area diners. $25 for breakfast for 2 is a tad high. Will still likely be back again to try other tasty sounding menu options.

This is my go to breakfast!.It honestly hits EVERYTIME! The size of the biscuits are huge and the eggs are cooked to perfection! The hollandaise sauce is beyond good! #yummy

Ordered the steak and eggs , not sure why the steak was so drenched in water potatoes were flavorless , but over all the service was great.

Service was great , presentation and taste of food was not that great / when they advertised juicy 8oz steak I didn't envision a pool to go along with it. The atmosphere was busy but pleasing to the eye a bit small in there but none the less beautiful.

Service at Mel's can be a hit or miss but in general, I love coming to this place at whatever time of the day. They give a good family vibe and on our most recent visit, I enjoyed their steak and shrimp while my husband enjoyed their fish fry dinner. While the steak wasn't the best cut, we like coming for the family atmosphere and service.

We had a great time during our first visit to Mel's Diner. We definitely plan to come back. It was a cold, snowy Saturday morning and we went right around 9am. Peak hours...but we had no trouble finding a great parking spot. The inside was updated and clean. I liked how they let us pick our table in a specific section. The decor was cool and they had almost every extra you could need well organized on the table (jellies, sugar, ketchup, syrup, half and half). We thought the coffee was very tasty, though I think it is a little better at the Peppermill. I still enjoyed two delicious mugs, and they were refilled or topped off frequently. The waitress was very friendly, polite, and helpful. She even helped me pick the right cheese for my dish. Oh, and she complimented my hair. I also liked that water was brought out along with the coffee. I always want both and I liked that I didn't have to ask for it. I ordered the frittata which came with a side of toast. I chose white and enjoyed the toast (which was lightly grilled, sliced bigger than average, and perfectly buttered) so much. I have already been looking for chances to go back just to get more toast! The frittata, which came out very quickly, was full of yummy potatoes, green bell peppers, onions, tomatoes, sausage, fluffy scrambled eggs, and melted cheese. The sausage was plentiful and not too salty. Every time I moved the toast around my plate, I found more food! The only drawback was that it could have been just a smidge warmer. I also really enjoyed the tomatoes, but I feel like a lot of folks may not have liked so much of it. My boyfriend ordered the meat lovers skillet with bacon, ham, and sausage and he loved every bite!

All of the others who didn't measure up." But take heart! All it takes is taking off the glasses and letting its hair down, and suddenly you realize just how attractive and special Railway Station Diner really is! It's the quintessential reliable diner. Above average food. Below average prices. Regulars. A counter. Good service. Quick service. The Mediterranean frittata was wholesome and filling. The ingredients, fresh. It came with roast (up charge for raisin toast, but worth it!). The breakfast sandwich with shred, too, was perfectly proportioned; the crunch of the English muffin and the squish of the sausage balanced each other exactly equally, like Neo and Smith in that third Matrix movie. But the true hidden gem was the muffin. Cut in half and grilled. With sugar crystals! Not too big. Not too small. Not so sweet as to be dessert-like. Just perfectly sweet enough to make you not regret "going savory" by getting the frittata as your main course. Next time you're asked about the best diners around, make sure Railway Station Diner is part of the pantheon.

There is someone just circling constantly with a pot. This is a cash only establishment, so be advised. There is an ATM. We did go at slightly off peak times, since we weren't working those days, but at those times, the restaurant seems to be a favorite of retired men, which is a good sign for a diner! They have a set menu and a specials board that I think changes daily. There's 2 full pages of breakfast, and at least 2 pages of lunch, plus the board. I'm sure you'll find something you like. I had the same thing both visits - a cheese omelet with hashbrowns and wheat toast. It was really cheesy, and I liked that it was a 2 egg omelet rather than 3, for me it was just the right size. We also split a piece of the rotating coffee cake, cinnamon walnut that day, and it was good - not too sweet, plenty of cinnamon. The guy had their 2-2-2 combo and was happy with that choice. For both of us, breakfast ran about $35, for 2 entrees and coffee, plus the cake.

All the staff we encountered in 2 dining experiences were incredibly friendly and hospitable. Best part is the food! Truly the star of this little local gem. Their breakfast selections are extensive, generously portioned and our choices were delicious. Again, we came here 2 days in a row. First day, we had omelettes. Western & greek. I had hashbrowns, hubby had home fries. Both were cooked perfectly. Crispy edges, soft & seasoned nicely. The next day, we came with our daughter. She has eggs benedict with side fresh fruit. Platter was huge with so much ham and potatoes with the eggs and Hollandaise, she couldn't finish it. Husband had an amazing special: a fried breakfast wrap with powdered sugar. Inside was everything! Pancake, eggs, sausage, cheese and hashbrowns. I had a bite, it was to die for. I chose the bacon cheeseburger omelette which i also loved. Our waitresses both times were attentive and so nice. Prices are good, portions are large! For breakfast, come here! And if there is a wait, I promise it's worth it!

Unfortunately, it turned into one of the worst restaurant experiences. We spent 2.5 hours total at the restaurant. After waiting an excessive amount of time, we watched two tables that arrived at least an hour after us receive their food first. When we politely asked if our ticket might have been missed, we were told those tables ordered before us, which simply wasn't true. We were then told the delay was because burgers take a long time but a nearly two-hour wait for a burger is pretty wild. It took about 25 minutes just for someone to take our drink order, and we were never asked if we wanted additional drinks. We had to flag staff down for everything. No ketchup, no hot sauce, nothing offered. The $30 mimosa flight served in tiny glasses also felt like a complete scam. When the food finally came, two people in our party were served 15-20 minutes before the other two, and the food was cold. One dish had completely raw eggs. When I let the server know I couldn't eat it, she came back and removed the meal from the bill, which was appreciated. However, the interaction itself felt tense and dismissive, which made an already frustrating experience worse. They did give us a round of breakfast shots to try to help pass the time which was appreciated. The food itself was disappointing overall. The breakfast burrito was basically all eggs with raw, bitter avocado, and my husband's burger was missing requested toppings. We also noticed food sitting in the service window while we continued waiting. The only person who was happy with their meal got the biggie fries an it was hot when it arrived. To make matters worse, the bathroom was unheated on an 18° day (feels like 2°) and not clean. We're a pretty chill, patient group and understand that kitchens get backed up but man, this experience completely missed the mark. Ironically, the cooks thanked us for our patience and servers said goodbye pleasantly on the way out. We honestly may have let a lot of this go if the service hadn't felt so dismissive when we calmly raised concerns.
