I'm keto and came in here for brunch. Asked for The Cuban without bread. They did it (delicious) and made it look awesome! Love this and very affordable. Great atmosphere too. Thank you!!

I occasionally drive by Mt. Hope Diner and think to myself, I should go in there sometime and try it. I like diner food - especially on an evening when the time has gotten away and you just want that homemade meal you have no energy to put together yourself. I grew up going to diners a lot. Mom worked in a number of them during her years as a waitress, and we went out a lot because after serving people all day, she liked to be waited on once in a while. Having the recent opportunity to join some yelpers, I was thrilled to finally get the chance to stop in. And I wasn't disappointed. My first impression came immediately after pulling into the parking lot. It's a relatively small lot, and there were some drivers battling it out vehemently. I literally watched a woman yell at an old man to move his car so she could get out of the parking lot from the space she was in. She actually had plenty of room to move and let him go around, but that's beside the point. What's the point - parking is at a premium and it was displayed in this entertaining vignette (all the while others are honking at me to move when I couldn't go anywhere with those two duking it out!) Despite the fact that the place was hoppin' at 10am on a Saturday, my mates had already snagged a table, and there was no one waiting in line. The man behind the register was super friendly, and made me feel really welcome. I found our party, and felt that we got drinks rather quickly. Our server was perky, engaging and managed to get all our orders right. I ordered the cornbeef hash special with a bagel. I hadn't had hash in a while, and it was a little bit of a nostalgic moment there. It could have been done a little more, but I didn't specify so I have no complaints. The eggs were cooked to my liking (over hard) and I got refills on my hot water for tea. Since I don't live in the immediate area, I wouldn't make this my regular diner experience, but the food was good, and if friends wanted to meet up on that side of town, I would definitely agree to this location!

All of the others who didn't measure up." But take heart! All it takes is taking off the glasses and letting its hair down, and suddenly you realize just how attractive and special Railway Station Diner really is! It's the quintessential reliable diner. Above average food. Below average prices. Regulars. A counter. Good service. Quick service. The Mediterranean frittata was wholesome and filling. The ingredients, fresh. It came with roast (up charge for raisin toast, but worth it!). The breakfast sandwich with shred, too, was perfectly proportioned; the crunch of the English muffin and the squish of the sausage balanced each other exactly equally, like Neo and Smith in that third Matrix movie. But the true hidden gem was the muffin. Cut in half and grilled. With sugar crystals! Not too big. Not too small. Not so sweet as to be dessert-like. Just perfectly sweet enough to make you not regret "going savory" by getting the frittata as your main course. Next time you're asked about the best diners around, make sure Railway Station Diner is part of the pantheon.

There is someone just circling constantly with a pot. This is a cash only establishment, so be advised. There is an ATM. We did go at slightly off peak times, since we weren't working those days, but at those times, the restaurant seems to be a favorite of retired men, which is a good sign for a diner! They have a set menu and a specials board that I think changes daily. There's 2 full pages of breakfast, and at least 2 pages of lunch, plus the board. I'm sure you'll find something you like. I had the same thing both visits - a cheese omelet with hashbrowns and wheat toast. It was really cheesy, and I liked that it was a 2 egg omelet rather than 3, for me it was just the right size. We also split a piece of the rotating coffee cake, cinnamon walnut that day, and it was good - not too sweet, plenty of cinnamon. The guy had their 2-2-2 combo and was happy with that choice. For both of us, breakfast ran about $35, for 2 entrees and coffee, plus the cake.

All the staff we encountered in 2 dining experiences were incredibly friendly and hospitable. Best part is the food! Truly the star of this little local gem. Their breakfast selections are extensive, generously portioned and our choices were delicious. Again, we came here 2 days in a row. First day, we had omelettes. Western & greek. I had hashbrowns, hubby had home fries. Both were cooked perfectly. Crispy edges, soft & seasoned nicely. The next day, we came with our daughter. She has eggs benedict with side fresh fruit. Platter was huge with so much ham and potatoes with the eggs and Hollandaise, she couldn't finish it. Husband had an amazing special: a fried breakfast wrap with powdered sugar. Inside was everything! Pancake, eggs, sausage, cheese and hashbrowns. I had a bite, it was to die for. I chose the bacon cheeseburger omelette which i also loved. Our waitresses both times were attentive and so nice. Prices are good, portions are large! For breakfast, come here! And if there is a wait, I promise it's worth it!

Unfortunately, it turned into one of the worst restaurant experiences. We spent 2.5 hours total at the restaurant. After waiting an excessive amount of time, we watched two tables that arrived at least an hour after us receive their food first. When we politely asked if our ticket might have been missed, we were told those tables ordered before us, which simply wasn't true. We were then told the delay was because burgers take a long time but a nearly two-hour wait for a burger is pretty wild. It took about 25 minutes just for someone to take our drink order, and we were never asked if we wanted additional drinks. We had to flag staff down for everything. No ketchup, no hot sauce, nothing offered. The $30 mimosa flight served in tiny glasses also felt like a complete scam. When the food finally came, two people in our party were served 15-20 minutes before the other two, and the food was cold. One dish had completely raw eggs. When I let the server know I couldn't eat it, she came back and removed the meal from the bill, which was appreciated. However, the interaction itself felt tense and dismissive, which made an already frustrating experience worse. They did give us a round of breakfast shots to try to help pass the time which was appreciated. The food itself was disappointing overall. The breakfast burrito was basically all eggs with raw, bitter avocado, and my husband's burger was missing requested toppings. We also noticed food sitting in the service window while we continued waiting. The only person who was happy with their meal got the biggie fries an it was hot when it arrived. To make matters worse, the bathroom was unheated on an 18° day (feels like 2°) and not clean. We're a pretty chill, patient group and understand that kitchens get backed up but man, this experience completely missed the mark. Ironically, the cooks thanked us for our patience and servers said goodbye pleasantly on the way out. We honestly may have let a lot of this go if the service hadn't felt so dismissive when we calmly raised concerns.
