This was our 1st visit to Jim's Diner. Heather greeted us, got us seated and brought us some coffee while we looked at the menu. The place is a little run down and dated, but that's what we expected per the reviews. The hubby was thrilled to see liver & onions on the menu. The menu selection and prices are typical of small local diners. The coffee was above average, the biscuits and dinner roll were homemade and delicious. My breakfast was cooked to my perfection but the gravy was a bit bland. Hubby had liver & onions with green beans, fried okra and dinner roll. Wish the liver had gravy but still a wonderful meal. While the food good, the wait is an hour sometimes more for food. This was our second visit. Las time time, we waited for almost an hour and a half for omelettes and pancakes. I vowed never to come back, but today I decided to give it a second shot. Again, a side of hash browns and two sampler plates (a slab of ham with hash browns and scrambled eggs and pancakes) took an hour. And the pancakes that came with the sampler didn't come out with the order. That came out fifteen minutes later. There has to be a better way of communicating to the cook so at the very least an order arrives complete. This place is really dirty too. Dead flies are on the window sills with grunge that looks like it's been there for years. A broken pane of glass secured by duct tape has been there for I don't know how long... If the front of the house biz looks like this it really makes me wonder how grimy the kitchen is. Our waitress was very sweet. Sadly, I think she's overworked. This could be a pandemic case of getting short-staffed bc businesses can't hire the staff they need. Which is sad ... our waitress looked like she cared. I think we got the only one who did. I happened to ask another waitress (when I couldn't find ours) for ketchup for my hash browns, and she nodded but never returned with it. My husband finally got up and searched other tables for a bottle, bringing it to me. The food is good. Our waitress seemed to care but was way stressed. The wait is pitiful. I had not been to Jim's in over 30 years...so it had changed a bit. I also went during Covid-19 in September 2020. Here is what I can tell you...it's an old diner, it feels old, it looks old and well its been there since 1978. The food was actually really good, but the service was very, very slow as each waitress seemed to have a very large section even if there weren't a lot of customers. At one point I did see the manager come out and start rolling place settings, which we didn't get until after we go our food. The coffee refills were super slow and we waited a long time for our food. I am not sure if that is a normal Sunday morning, but I probably don't need to go back anytime soon for a "fast meal" at the diner. read more

I have been coming here since the early 90s. There were times it wasn't the most sanitary. Stopped by in January 2024 and they have really cleaned the place up. Service was with a smile and couldn't have been any better. I didn't take pics but the food was spot on!!! I ordered the Route 66 scramble and had zero complaints. Only one coffee pot for the whole place and she said the other waitress emptied it and she had to wait for machine make more. Waitress herself was friendly and busy. Hostess that took is to our table must have been taking a break later and she was sitting at bar counter, back leaning against bar, legs over the back rest. Awkward and unprofessional. Nothing we ordered was right. For example, my sister in-law ordered the spinach salad with strawberries and crispy chicken, but instead she got an iceberg salad with tomatoes and grilled chicken. Took forever to be seated, since the hostess had to clean up a table even though there was plenty of clean tables. When the drinks were brought, no silverware, so you couldn't stir the sugar that you had added to your coffee. Food came out warm, but quickly cooled off since the plates weren't ceramic. The biscuits were dry and hard, the home fries were under cooked, the eggs were over medium, but had been cooked on a grill that was too hot, and the coffee was VERY WEAK. Extremely short staffed. Very long wait times and led to cold food and lack of proper service. Previous times food and customer service was great. The last 3 visits have been over an hour with most of that waiting on food. They do have signs everywhere stating they are short staffed. I called yesterday for a to-go order and they were out of most appetizers and meat. Will update after better staffing to see if it's improved. At this time I wouldn't recommend anyone going there for any meal unless you want cold food and a nonexistent server. read more

I've driven by here many times, but never stopped until last week. There are always tons of cars, but inside has plenty of room. My biggest complaint is the grungy interior. It's one of those places that, matter how good the food could be, you always wonder if you really should eat it, considering how dirty the place is. I'd say years ago they decided to remodel and tore up some stuff but never fixed it. There are exposed wires, unpainted beams, and unfinished work. That being said, the service was great and the food was not bad. I had the blueberry pancakes with eggs over medium and bacon. The pancakes could have been better. In the center was a large glob of blueberries. You didn't get an even spread of berries. The food wasn't good enough to overcome the (kind of) scary interior issues. read more

Jim's is a staple in my life. Always that home cooked breakfast you need. I highly suggest the chicken fried steak breakfast...and you definitely can't go wrong with their waffles either. The staff is always kind and attentive. It's a short order place, so if you're in a hurry, you better just go to McDonald's. read more

I love Jim's Diner. We came here today and I'm disappointed. Very few of the staff are wearing mask and no social distancing. Also no hand sanitizer and it doesn't appear any other precautions. I've reviewed this diner a few years ago. I'll have to visit to see if they have improved. They advertise homemade and at the time I ate there it was anything but homemade. This used to be a great restaurant and I once gave it a stellar review. I imagine there are new owners and they are more focused on the 'bottom line' rather than providing good customer service or quality offerings on their menu. The overall quality of food has declined drastically. When I last visited Jim's restaurant, I saw the wait staff clear tables, get their hands dirty, and then touch someone's freshly prepared food, and then brought it to their table. THEY NEVER WASHED THEIR HANDS!! The overall condition of the restaurant has declined (even after the remodel). lt makes me wonder if the new owners (or possibly the updated management)no longer takes pride what they do. Then after 10 mins never returned to take order and find out she gave wrong tea. Left without eating. If you can't get drinks right and no one to take order when even risk it. Love this little diner! They are always kind and have a great attitude when visiting! The food: Typical diner food with better quality. I usually get the steak and eggs; always cooked to perfection! The pie is wonderful, but they never seem to have any chocolate. I guess that would be my only qualm, but it's definitely not important enough to mark off a star. The environment and parking: Small parking lot, but it's not hard to find a place unless you go during the lunch or dinner rushes. Jim's is always clean and the staff go over and beyond to make sure you are comfortable! I highly recommend checking this place out if you are ever in Oklahoma City! I just had Chicken and Waffles at Jim's Diner in Bethany. It was absolutely delicious! My husband and I rarely do breakfast out---we are home bodies for breakfast. Today we had an early morning errand, and we decided to try Jim's again (after many years). I'm going to say that the management must have paid attention to earlier reviews, because the restaurant was clean and bright. My husband ordered the Breakfast Special: 2 eggs, 2 pancakes, bacon, and hash browns. There was barely any conversation between us. We were too busy eating. Our coffee cups were kept full and hot, and we were pleased with the attention our server(s) gave us. It won't be long before we will visit Jim's again. read more

If you're looking for a nice hot breakfast cooked from scratch, save yourself the disappointment and look elsewhere. This is a mom & pop version of Denny's without any quality control. After reading the reviews, we knew the risk. However, we had just left a nearby hotel and were looking for a nice diner without driving very far. After walking in, we were quickly greeted and seated. The waitress came over to us within a couple minutes for our drink order (coffee and water). The coffee was very good and our waitress was very friendly. My wife ordered the two eggs breakfast with chIcken fried steak and biscuits & gravy. I ordered the two eggs breakfast with corned beef hash and toast. The food arrived about 15 minutes later. Our food (all of it) was barely warm. The corned beef hash was canned. They did cook my over easy eggs to perfection, but they were cold before I dug into them. Okay....onto my my wife's plate! Her chicken fried steak arrived with a long strand of hair floating on top of the gravy. They quickly took it back and brought a replacement about five minutes later. Are you ready for this? IT WAS BARELY WARM. ‍ As she dug into it, it didn't take long to realize she was eating a frozen boxed chicken fried steak smothered with canned gravy. Start with the old, rancid, grease smell at entry. Walk inside to find similar smell (yuck). Table was sticky - pointed it out to the waitress and nothing was done. I wiped it with napkin and water from my glass. Ordered the club sandwich. Got two small slices of white bread (not toasted). A wadded up glob of tasteless turkey lunch meat. Some tiny pieces of rubber bacon. Pieces of American cheese (please that's not cheese!), a lettuce leaf and two thick slices of very wet tomato. Nastiest club sandwich I ever had. The other two I was with had similar experiences - salad with slices of cheap crappy American cheese, lots of large chunks of very wet tomato (DIL called it salsa ) and my sons sandwich had burnt meat and the onion rings tasted as if they were fried in rancid grease, probably why it smells so bad. Service was ok. I have heard their breakfasts are good, but I won't chance it - I won't be back. read more

Been going here since I was little was our favorite weekend spot but has seriously gone to crap! 5 kids under 10 serving they were trying their best and I love that but the one adult that was working checked on us once. There are a lot of bad reviews for Jim's on Yelp for slow service, but we had a great experience. We had good service and the food was pretty good. Jims has been in Bethany since 1978 so we did not expect the interior to be all fancy and look brand new. We expected an old neighborhood diner and that's what it is. We half expected to hear "kiss my grits" a few times during our visit. When we got there it was seat yourself, so I recommend catching a servers eye on the way to your table and ordering your drinks to speed things up if you're in a hurry. We had freshly ground coffee that was really good and our order was taken promptly. Our breakfast dishes came out warm and everything we had tasted good. PUBLIC SAFETY ANNOUNCEMENT! Exceptionally Great Experience or a Horrible Disrespect for hard earned money usually prompts a review from me. But, this one is more about Safety. Jims was a staple in the community when I was growing up and deserved to be so with the kind wait staff and classic Diner menu. But they changed owners years ago and it is apparent that ZERO investment in the establishment, community, and quality have been made. 9:30 on a Sunday they should have been packed but the parking lot had maybe 10 cars in it. We were sat in a dark and dank room whose floors made an audible sticky sound with every step and the grout was black with mildew and years of negligent sanitary practices. There was old food under at least 5 of the 8 or so tables in this room and Menus had dried food on them. The Window at our booth had a huge crack in it and the 4 year old at our table sliced his finger open on the crack and began bleeding. After cleaning up the cut in the bathroom we asked to be moved and the Female Owner/Manager began arguing with the server in the middle of the restaurant saying that we could not do that, not realizing we were standing behind her. Many of us have worked in hospitality and recognize this attitude as a total lack of respect for the customer, their money, and ultimately their Health when your product is perishable food. We left this place with an injured child and no sincere apology from the staff or Owner. Given the filthy state of this restaurant and attitude of the the staff and owner we likely would have fared much worse had we eaten there. The nostalgia we were looking for could not exist here. If you walk up or drive by this place take note of its appearance (window, Landscape, etc) and that should be all you need to make your decision. Enter and Eat at your own Risk!!! read more

This is probably one of the worst dining experiences I've had in a long time. I am generally excited to find a local diner and was really looking forward to mouthwatering pancakes and fresh eggs like momma makes. I was more than disappointed. We waited over a hour for our food. When we finally did get our food, our order was wrong. The pancakes were so tough I had a hard time cutting them with a knife. The bacon was chewy and just cheap, nasty bacon. The chicken fried steak was also chewy and tasteless. The eggs tasted bland and old. The only highlight was the coffee. The coffee was smooth and hot. The waitstaff was friendly just slow...really slow. Lastly the thing that sent me over the edge was as I was paying, I saw how their cooks literally piled the dishes on top of each other. I mean literally the bottoms of the plates on top of the food. It was just gross. We will not be back. read more

We were starving and needed a quick bite. I've never been to Jim's but my gf had. We walked in and just kinda stood there. After what felt like minutes but was probably really only several seconds, we were told to seat ourselves. We picked a booth away from the door. It took about 3-4 minutes before our waitress brought over menus. She was friendly but wearing way too much perfume. We have her our drink orders, then ordered our food when she brought our water and tea over. Gf got an onion burger and I ordered a chicken sandwich. We were giving our choice of potato side - I went with fries and she went with hash browns. The food came out fairly quickly and was hot. My plate was sort of "wet"; I couldn't figure out if it was water or grease. Anyway, gf's burger looked great, as did her hash browns. She said it was great! Not too greasy but had lots of flavor. My sandwich was really good too. The breading was light and seasoned well. The fries were fries. Nothing special but good enough. As we were eating, we noticed another patron's plate with a huge pancake and lots of bacon. We decided we must try that next time! This is a good, quick, inexpensive diner. I don't really have that much to say about Jim's Diner. I got seated pretty quickly and got my food about 10-15 minutes after I ordered it. The food was alright, kind of like a better tasting IHOP. I'd say the best thing about my breakfast was the coffee. I noticed that they grind and brew their coffee fresh, which is why it tasted as good as it did. The staff is pretty friendly too. They were always attentive to when we needed a refill on our coffee or water. Jim's is a pretty simple place, which is kind of nice. If their food tasted better or was priced better I'd rate it higher. read more

I went to Jim's with my husband and some friends yesterday before we left Oklahoma. The restaurant has a great old diner feel, and the waitresses were very friendly and welcoming. In addition, the food prices are very inexpensive. The menu offers standard diner fare, and we each chose a breakfast entree. I got the Full Deuce Coupe breakfast (2 pancakes, 2 eggs, and 2 strips of bacon), while the others at the table got a ham and cheese omelet, a bacon breakfast sandwich, and another combo breakfast (can't remember the name, but it was eggs, meat, and hash browns). I really liked my pancakes--they were very light and buttery--and the bacon was nice and crisp, but the eggs were a little runny/watery. Everyone else at the table enjoyed their breakfasts. One note: I got a homemade cinnamon roll to go so I could have a snack in the car on the way home to Colorado. When I opened it up to eat it, the first bite tasted oddly of cigarette smoke, so I didn't eat any more of it. Not sure what happened there, but if I had tried to eat it in the restaurant, I would definitely have sent it back. With that said, Jim's is a great place for a quick, cheap meal, especially if you like diners. read more

We stopped in here for breakfast because the parking lot is always full - usually a good sign. I order ed 2 soft poached eggs and rye toast, my guy ordered the mushroom, spinach and swiss omelet with homefries and toast. My poached eggs were almost hardboiled and it came with just one slice of toast. I always thought toast was 2 slices??? Hmmm...The omelet was fine but the homefries appeared to be deep fried potatoes and once again a side order (EXTRA) of toast was one slice! The could do better. read more

I'm giving Jim's a 4 star review based solely on my one visit. This in spite of some pretty bad yelp reviews that I could totally envision as true. We went on the 4th of July, mid-afternoon as we were super hot and hungry from spending the midday at the freedom fest in Bethany. I ordered the hot roast beef sandwich ( one of my favorites on any diner's menu) and Kate had a chicken fried chicken sandwich. My plate exceeded my expectations and was a very good open faced hot beef sandwich. Kate's sandwich was good as well. It wasn't anything fancy but we weren't expecting it to be. The clientele was a little older and It was as if we were at the "early bird" special of a Furrs cafeteria. The service was just ok. The menu said that the restaurant had been updated in 2011. If thats the case they must have gotten the decor from a 70's restaurant surplus store. Jim's is very dated but again, we weren't expecting anything different. That said, Jim's was VERY affordable (total bill including tip for 2 was under $20.00) and it was super clean. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat at Jim's or "highly recommend" it to visiting guests, but if I needed a good, hot meal for reasonable prices, I wouldn't hesitate to stop in. read more

Jim's Diner, at the corner of Council & 39th Expressway (aka Rte 66), in Bethany, OK. It's been kind of the only place to eat in that immediate area for a long time & my family ate there several times when we lived in the area. Never an amazing place to eat, but had good enough food to bring us back. I understand it's now under new ownership. I think that's where it's going wrong: Poor management = Poor service I ate here for breakfast with my daughter & "tried" to eat there another day. I'll start with breakfast: When you first drive up, the front parking lot looks broken & dirty. When you realize you can't maneuver your vehicle in to any of those spaces, you then drive around to a larger parking lot, just as run down, except now you can see the back side of the restaurant. Lovely. When you walk in to the restaurant, you are immediately hit with what seems like utter chaos. People standing waiting to pay or be seated, you're not sure because nobody's helping them - or you. Then you see a sign that says "Please Seat Yourself." So you wade through the people milling about the front door & cash register (which are about three feet apart, by the way), & walk through rows of regular-sized booths, little two-person booths; there's also a bar of stools where you can eat. If you insist on eating here (don't say I didn't warn you), sit at the bar. We sat in a regular booth along the windows, which they have a lot of, something I do like in a restaurant because you can see any gross stuff. And there was plenty of it at Jim's! The carpeting was filthy, food everywhere, under our table, ewww!! The menus were stained, the condiment bottles & shakers were disgusting from countless dirty hands. The tabletop had been wiped with a smelly rag that reeked of sour milk & bleach, I think. Double ewww!! My daughter wanted to leave, but we had a tight schedule, so we stayed. I wish I had listened to her...I don't remember what she ordered exactly, but she didn't like it. I usually take pictures of the food, but we were so disgusted with the crummy food & service, I forgot, I guess. I ordered their version of chicken-fried steak, which was awful. They must use a frozen pre-formed, pre-breaded patty. It was just terrible, even burned on one part where it didn't sit evenly while cooking. The gravy was so thick & salty, I think it must come from one of those industrial-size cans. The biscuits were NOT biscuits like you & I think of as biscuits. I'm sure they aren't homemade, either. The service? I would like to say we were there on a very busy morning & they just had a lot on their minds, but that's not the case. They simply did not care. They would rather stand around back by the bar area & talk like a bunch of teenagers on school grounds. Trying to get out of there when it comes time to pay is a living nightmare! You walk back to the cash register/hostess station at the entrance & wait in a long line of people who are trying to get out just as badly as you are. But..."Oh? The ticket thingy isn't working right?" "Oh? This happens all the time?" Sorry we should have had cash, I guess. Everything about this place has just gone down hill. So WHY did I "try" to eat there again, you ask? Because Cracked Egg Diner, the place where I wanted to eat, wasn't open by the time I got there & Jim's is just east across Council from them. I thought, "They couldn't possibly be as bad a second time." Silly me. I walked in around 2:15pm & there weren't many people seated in the place, but strangely enough the front was as crowded & chaotic as our breakfast adventure. Hmmm. There's NOBODY at the cash register & these customers are looking around like "?" Weird. The sign for seating was turned sideways against the wall, so I wasn't sure if it was seat yourself or not. I tried to get the attention of someone behind the bar area & asked if I should just sit down. She said, "Anywhere's fine" with a wave of her hand. Okay. I chose one of the booths toward the back, beside the bar, close to the kitchen door. Wait staff walking by, past my booth, not making eye contact. Maybe they closed at three, maybe they were thinking, "it's almost time to go home," not "there's still time to provide decent service." After ten minutes & a hundredth time of reading the torn handwritten sign taped on the back of the last bar stool that said something to the effect of, "Don't sit here, broken," I had finally had enough of being completely ignored & left. Back through the line of people still waiting to pay. Why? Once again there was NOBODY at the cash register! I ended up going down the street to a Sonic which was the same as I remember it - pretty DARN good for fast food. So, don't waste your time and money going to Jim's Diner. If you want to eat someplace you'll really like and it's before 2:00 PM, just jump back on 39th Expressway and "Go West, young man," to Cracked Egg Diner, just across Council.
