To quote a popular movie, "Is this heaven? No, it's"...Alabama! Haha OMG! I have seen Jim's Hwy 82 BBQ on best BBQ in Alabama for years and the hype is real! It is out in the middle of nowhere in Billingsley, where there is nothing but trees. Montgomery is 30 miles to the south and Centreville is 40 something miles to the north. But the road trip to Jim's is worth it. Part of the reason I call it heaven is because the place is decorated with so much Alabama Crimson Tide decor. It has just as much or rivals as much as the original Dreamland. The BBQ is either the best or among the best in Alabama. I got there 10 minutes before they closed and all my food tasted like it was just prepared. The ribs are moist and a rub I have never had from anywhere else. It tasted like there was some lemon pepper mixed in the rub, which I have not had on the ribs. The pork was so soft, tender, and moist too! Both went extremely well with the sauce, which is different than most Bama BBQ places. This sauce was more like a Texas style. It was ketchup based but instead of sweetness, it was peppery and tangy. There was no to little heat to it as well. It is homemade in the restaurant. The beans and potato salad are made in house. The beans have a sweet taste to them. The potato salad is a mustard base. The service was also outstanding! I called them to ask what time they closed since I was driving up from Dothan. They offered to go ahead and have my plate ready by my ETA. Also, I wanted more sweet tea, but they had already dumped the sweet tea. (Sweet tea was still refreshingly sweet by the way.) They gave me a bottled water to make up for it. I will need to make a road trip back up to Billingsley. The ribs and pork is among the best in Alabama and I will be planning a road trip soon back to Billingsley. read more

Well to say it's "iconic" is an over statement; it's great service and good food other than the baked beans. The sauce is a vinegar based sauce that's pretty good. I had a pulled pork plate with baked beans and fries and overall the pork was good the sauce was amazing and the fries were nice and crispy. However the baked beans were just your typical "Sysco" canned quality with maybe some green peppers chopped up or they may have come that way. I personally don't care about the decor but if you're into University of Alabama sports teams then you should look around at the walls. I'll come back sometime when I'm down this way. read more

Wife and I stopped by for lunch. She got the BBQ sandwich which she really liked. I got my usual yelp review rib plate beans and potato salad (or slaw). My wife raved about the sand which but honestly the ribs were average. Beans were slightly above average. I really like the vibe of this family run restaurant in the middle of no where and I am going to give them another shot this fall. read more

We been going there I guess over 22 years now. We always stop while going to the beach. Still has the best bar-b-que in alabama. Now that my opinion, but I guess you have to find out for yourself. The only issues I have that they charge 3% on credit cards. But of course lots places do now days. But that won't stopping me going there. Try it, see what you think. Services was great, very friendly people. Place is very clean and organized. We look around they have many colleges poster all around the restaurant. First and foremost, the BBQ sandwich is the best in Alabama and it's not even close. Their sauce is unlike any other and I wish they would bottle it! Such an amazing place. I have been going since I was a little kid. Moved from Alabama 5 years ago and continue to stop by Jim's on my drive back to Florida. It's an iconic building which seals the deal on how great the business is. You're surrounded by Alabama lore, some dating back 50+ years. The dining area is warm and simple, making you feel at home. When I was a Young Teenager in the early 70,s me and my cousin would actually cut some wood for Mr. Jim to cook his BBQ and he would always give us a good Ole BBQ Sandwich and a coke we loved it . This was around 1969 or 1970 when he opened . Jim was always just a very nice fella and he treated us boys right . But the one thing he could do was Cook Some BBQ and to this day it Continues with his Daughter and her family. You just cannot beat Jims Bbq . Its cooked just right very flavorful and the sauce is awesome. This is one of my many Memoires of growing up in that area. If you go to Jims you will see that any and everybody with Alabama Sports have Visited Jim's . Its one of these places that is just very special and kinda out of the way but it is well worth the drive to Billingsley Ala just to wrap your lips around his Bbq. For years I've said go to Jim's for the best pulled pork in the state. Never cared for the sauce, but the meat was fabulous. Great texture, smokey flavor was just right. Every time we traveled 82 I brought some home. Even made a few trips just to buy their pulled pork. Went there a few days ago and brought home two pounds. What a disappointment. Flavorless is the best way to describe the meat. On a minor note, my wife got an ice cream cone for the road. She tossed it out before we left the parking lot. Two stars are generous, but I'm giving credit that we MAY have hit on a (really) bad day for Jim's. read more

I made a detour on my way home from the beach to try this place after James Spann, weatherman for ABC 33/40 in Birmingham said it was the best BBQ sandwich in the state. He was correct!! This is the best BBQ sandwich I have ever had. Nice smoke flavor and the sauce is the piece de resistance! I like a tangy BBQ sauce not the sweet syrupy stuff you get at most places. This sauce is awesome! They need to bottle it and market it on a large scale! My daughters both got cheeseburgers and loved them. The fries were crispy and salted perfectly. I have a new route to and from the beach because of this place. Also, as an Alabama graduate and fan, I love the Crimson Tide memorabilia on the walls! read more
