We're glad the Lost Texan can now be found in Townsend, Tennessee.

"Try the fish." I was skeptical. Super skeptical. I mean, who goes to a BBQ joint for the fish? The waitress was quite adamant, "The fish is delicious". Am I really gonna be "that guy" and get fish at a BBQ place? Wow. It was delicious. The breading has a kick to it without being overpowering. The filet was delicate and flavorful. It wasn't greasy or overcooked -- it was perfect. Sure, the Cowboy beans, burnt ends, fried green tomatoes, and pulled pork are great, too. They have been favorites since JimBob opened up. But now, I'm officially "that guy" who gets fish at a BBQ place.

Came on a Saturday night. Unfortunately, they only had 1 waitress, so the kitchen folks needed to come out and fill in between orders. The salad bar was closed and there was no bread. Wish there was even cornbread or garlic bread for sale. Due to the shortage in staff, we waited 10 minutes to order drinks. Several parties were seated after and 1 received their food before us, so we were salivating. As for dinner, we ordered a veggie plate, a pork sandwich, burnt ends dinner and kids Mac 'n cheese. The food that came with the meals were: -corn nuggets, which were nice and hot; -cowboy beans, which were good, -okra, which was warm enough, yet no seasoning added; -Mac 'n cheese, which was pretty good, yet tasted like it was boxed; -pork sandwich was good; -beef burnt ends, not warm enough (thinking it was plated 1st?) -fries were good. Overall, the food was pretty good. Wish the service was a little better though, as our server was somewhat snarky (probably from the stress). Would I recommend? Yes, but be forewarned it costs extra for the okra and corn nuggets, which I didn't know until I got the ticket.

    Amazing sauces

I had a a late lunch one afternoon as I always in this area doing business the barbecue overall I would give four stars service I would give five stars all the way the young lady that waited on me was absolutely outstanding. I cannot remember her name I just know that she is from Sevierville and we drive over daily to do her job which she was excellent at overall would recommend this place to anyone that was looking for good barbecue with great service. I really enjoyed the spicy and hot barbecue sauces. Apple pie barbecue sauce was a must try also.

Gordon Ramsey would consider it a threat. As a chewy bacon lover and enthusiast, when my bacon came out charred and demented, i was appalled to say the least. I had to drench it in the white gravy so it would give my stomach the illusion of chewy. Even then, even with the request of chewy, i was let down. The home fries were exceptional.. as exceptional as any other home fry you'll get on the Pigeon Forge strip. And why? They'll all the same refrigerated chips of processed mess. Soggy, not even crisp. So poor you'd hope the microwave would add additional flavors from all the other food they microwaved. I wouldn't even praise the food if paid me, it's sad enough i paid IT to taste like wet squeaky boots. But anyways the atmosphere was just bewildering! They have a big exhibit with birds you can watch. Sometimes they're loud and a bit squawk-y but it doesn't deplete the experience. This is my internal conflict with a certain drink on the menu. The Monster. This satanic abomination soup of a beverage really tempted me. I drink energy drinks and was excited to try a Monster! I mean.. we're all a little adventurous deep down.. human nature! Wrong. Apparently.. With full fledged confidence.. as much as you'd expect at a busy bar playing BINGO.. I asked the waitress for a Monster energy drink. Big. Mistake. I get it.. I took an unsuspecting picture of the beast waiting.. opened it.. and took a sip. If you were to ask me, giving somebody a pedicure with your MOUTH would taste no different than a can of this monstrosity. Maybe I recommend the restaurant.. but I don't recommend the Monster. Don't be fooled by the big print image of the can on the menu. Restaurant - 6/10 Demon Soup In An Aluminum Can - 2/10

Our server--I believe his name was Joe--was incredibly attentive and accommodating. Food arrived VERY quickly. We had multiple people check on us throughout our dinner, all very polite. We ordered the fried chicken skins, buffalo frog legs, and bone marrow as appetizers. The chicken skins were HUGE and deliciously crunchy. The buffalo frog legs were very tender. The bone marrow paired very nicely with the bread it's served with. All were very tasty. For the main dishes, we got the 48 oz Tomahawk ribeye (topped with bone marrow butter and a side of fries), as well as the wood grilled lamb. We asked that the tomahawk be rare, specifying charred on the outside and still mooing on the inside, and they absolutely nailed it. The outside, especially the fat, was seared beautifully--it was absolutely delicious. The fries were very fresh and flavorful as well. We'd never had lamb before, so we asked our server to have them cook it the way he suggested. It was cooked phenomenally, and the flavors with the blackberry reduction were amazing. The goat cheese grits weren't overpowering, they were the best cheese grits I've had. The cornbread went very well with the steak. For dessert, we got the blackberry and blueberry cobbler, and the goat cheese cheesecake. They were both mouthwateringly delicious. I'm still thinking about that cobbler... Overall, there was not a single thing to complain about during our visit--besides it having to come to an end, lol. The food was absolutely phenomenal, and we'd never had a dining experience quite like this one. I absolutely recommend The Appalachian, it's well worth the money.

Cracker Barrel would have been a step up. Haven't been to this hipster, that has turned into more of a tourist trap breakfast cafe in years and probably won't go back anytime soon. You walk in, grab a tray, and you've got options. You can go through the hot bar and get served right there, pay, and be on your way... or order off the menu, sit down, and they'll bring the food to you. Very simple and efficient. The inside is spacious with plenty of seating, and there's also outdoor seating if you want it. Parking is easy too, which is a big plus, especially compared to the chaos you'll run into closer to Helen. Food wise, I always judge breakfast spots by the chicken, egg, and cheese biscuit... and this one held up. The chicken was tender, the biscuit was soft and fresh, and overall it was a solid start. The surprise for me was the hashbrown casserole. It came out good, but once I added a little salt, the flavor really popped. Definitely worth getting. The pancakes were also done right... nice crispy edges with a soft, fluffy inside. That's exactly how pancakes should be. Menu wise, they've got everything you'd expect from a Southern breakfast spot... biscuits and gravy, eggs, bacon, sausage, country ham, pancakes, omelets, and even lunch style items like burgers and plate meals if you come later. They also have a Coca-Cola fountain, which is always a win. Service was friendly, especially for early morning, and the whole place just has that comfortable, old-school home cooking feel. There is also a drive thru if you don't feel like leaving your car. Overall, this is a great spot if you want a good breakfast without the crowds. Simple, tasty, and easy.
