We had a large group go to Bar-B-Que Wagon on a Tuesday around 12:30. The place was packed! We were surprised to see it was cash only but they do have an ATM in the restaurant. We ordered brisket, pork, beef, sandwiches and platters as a group. Our sides were cole slaw, fries, onion rings, & beans. All the food was fantastic. One of us ordered the strawberry shortcake which was also terrific. It's counter service but they move the line along pretty quickly. The restaurant has ample seating and is clean. We LOVED the bar-b-que wagon. It is just off the main strip near the IGA in downtown Bryson City. They have indoor and outdoor seating and the outdoor seating is on the water. So beautiful! The establishment is cash only so be prepared. My brisket was exceptional. The helpings were perfect. We each had some leftovers. The service was friendly. We tried to go back again on Monday (because it was that good) but they were closed. Definitely worth a stop! read more

Yuck, this is probably the worst barbecue I've had in the south of the United States. Their pulled pork is ground like the inside of a sausage. I know that so they can use all the parts dry and not so dry. My husband had ribs and he said they were so fatty that couldn't eat them. The slaw I know is normally OK to be ground up, but this was ground fine. The highlight of the meal was the hush puppies. They're a little odd looking, but the flavor is good. Of course my husbands were overcooked and he's the big hush puppy guy. So I let him have mine. The place has a nice atmosphere, looked clean and did have outside seating. Oh my gosh was this place delicious. I wish I could add a photo but realized all the food was gone before I took one. Truly fantastic chopped pork and probably one of the best slaws I've ever had. Their sauces were delicious as well- go for the gold sauce, mild, and honey bbq. The hush puppies were also fantastic. The service was quick and to-order despite it being slammed packed. The food is actually pretty good. We ate here twice. Brisket is really my jam and it's just okay at this restaurant... it definitely needs a sauce. The slaw is super delish, so were the fries and hush puppies. I'd probably rate it a solid 4 stars but the staff are really unfriendly and not at all welcoming. It's the kind of place where you feel you got in their way by coming in. Great little spot on the way in to Bryson City. We loved being able to sit outside by the water and enjoy the view (albeit was very cold). In Bryson City for weekend whitewater rafting trip. Decided to come see "town" and grab some lunch. I was torn about where to eat as this is my first trip here and the reviews were mixed on this app about all the places. But I made a wrong turn and ended up here. Building is a quaint bbq place. Very unassuming. Walked in to counter service being right there and while I waited, I reviewed the menu that was above the drink station to the left. However when I stepped up to the counter to order, there was a board with daily specials. So I ordered the sandwich special that came with a pulled pork sandwich, fries, slaw and drink for $7.95. Very good deal! Slaw needed seasoning but was ok. Not too wet and I loved the steak fries. I was not impressed with the sandwich after the first bite, but then I added the sweet bbq sauce and it was on from there! There is plenty of meat on this sandwich, and the bun was super soft. Really enjoyed my meal. Service was very good. The young lady taking orders was super friendly and does her job well. And in between customers, she was responsible for cleaning the dining room. She got the Pulled Pork Samdwich side of fries and slaw. I got the Brisket platter sides of baked beans and slaw with hushpuppies. The sandwich wasn't dry at all and very flavorful and she could add any sauce she wanted amount limitless. My platter was awesome the brisket didn't need sauce and had amazing flavor. Hamburger bun with some grey shredded pork and a tiny squirt of sauce. The dog liked it, however. Fries appeared to be leftover from yesterday or perhaps the day before. Didn't touch them. IMO many of the slightly-less-than-great reviews here take the model of "this place isn't exactly like the bbq place down the road from my grandma when I was a kid, and therefore I will not rate it highly." Yeah, this place isn't exactly like that place for me either, but it doesn't have to be for it to be excellent. Had the chopped pork one day, with great fries and baked beans. Lots of sauce options to choose from. The vinegar, gold, and spicy options were my favorites, alone or mixed together. Two days later I thought I'd try the beef, so I got some brisket which was also great, with mashed potatoes and fried okra. My only complaint is that the fried okra was maybe a little overcooked. You had to pay for them and I got one of each! All were very, very good! The brisket was cooked to perfection, the pulled pork was most and all the meats had amazing flavor and aroma! The price was perfect! I paid just under $50 and got so much food! I was really impressed! For a family of 6, the price has to be right to make me wanna come back, plus the food needs to be amazing!
