Jim Black Construction (JBC) was recommended to me by my insurance adjuster to restore my rental condo after it sustained extensive water damage due to frozen pipes. I selected JBC after interviewing and obtaining bids from 4 restoration companies. What I liked most about JBC: 1. Quality work. This was a complete remodel from the studs out. The result was beautiful, from tile work to cabinetry to flooring to painting. The subs they used were excellent. Almost no punch list-- everything was done right the first time. 2. On time and on budget. No surprise change orders, no extra costs tacked on. They gave me a detailed budget and stuck to it. Further, they didn't leave my job to work on other projects, as has happened to me numerous times with other remodeling projects. 3. Experience dealing with insurance adjusters. JBC was able to get me the most money for my restoration project, because they understand how to prepare and manage project bids for insurance claims 4. Project management. Each job is assigned a project manager to oversee the project. Mine was Joe N., who was excellent. Joe worked with me from the initial estimate through the final walk through. He was easy to reach, detailed, and organized. Work was completed when he said it would be. Our project supervisor Allan D was also great. Bottom line. Call them!. My only regret is that Jim Black Construction was not contacted the minute our water damage was detected, as they also can provide the fans, dehumidifiers, etc. Instead, I had poor experiences with 2 other damage mitigation companies brought in by my HOA. read more

Charged $6200 for 3 month's construction fencing. Got two other quotes at other places one for $850 and the other for $1300. Called to dispute and the lady on the phone told us the charges are what they are and wouldn't let us talk to anybody else. They also knocked on part of our retaining wall. read more

Make sure you have a major insurance company backing you if you deal with this company. I had some work done with my insurance company, then went back and requested to have some work done out of pocket to correct some damage that was done. Not only did they double the price compared to when Insurance was paying, but I have never ever been spoken to so rudely or with such hostility, I was speechless. Before you deal with this company be very clear their business model is to deal with insurance companies and they will run over a consumer without one behind them. read more

The worst experience with a contractor and subpar quality of workmanship From beginning to end. Jim Black was contracted to mitigate water damage in my master closet and refinish the wood floor. Two years, two attempts to correct mishaps on floor refinish , multiple paint fixes, and more wood damage as a result. At the end of all this, the water mitigation was a failure and I still have water damage wood floors with no recourse. I absolutely would not recommend Jim Black Construction due to poor workmanship, customer service, and customer satisfaction. read more

Bad service after getting a "smooth" sales/PM promise of what to expect. Workmanship was really sloppy on all aspects of our remodel with indifferent workers that didn't respect our property or us. We had a horrendous experience with Jim Black Construction. JBC subcontracts every piece of the project, and there is little communication between teams, so repairs were delayed for days, weeks, then even more weeks, while we were effectively left homeless. The initial estimate had to be followed up by a new estimate 10 days later, at which time Greg promised us we would have a project timeline at the end of 5 more days. When we inquired 5 days later about the timeline, Greg threatened to delay the project further if we were going to "keep being like this." Meanwhile, a subcontractor might come to the job site for an hour or two, then the house would sit idle for a few days, then a completely different team would come for an hour, and then nothing would happen for another week. 21 days after the first estimate, JBC had to draw up a new estimate (which involved gutting the entire apartment rather than just fixing the floor) because they suddenly "found mold behind the shower." It is worth noting that the reason they were called in the first place was because a pipe burst 2 feet away from the shower. Looking for mold behind the shower should have literally been the first thing they did. But the main reason I wish I could give negative stars on this review was because of what they did to the kitchen... From the very first visit, we asked them if we should pack up the entire house, or just move items to a different room (or just off the ground - after all, they were supposed to just be repairing a small section of floor). We were told we could leave things in the kitchen, since the cabinets and counters wouldn't be affected. So, with no other safe place to store our valuables, I moved all of our wedding gifts, artwork and fragile items into the kitchen cabinets for safe-keeping. One day, I returned to the house to pick up more rice and coffee filters, and the kitchen was completely GONE. Appliances, counters, cabinets and all of our belongings inside them had been removed, with no warning, and without our permission or consent. I was horrified to find our possessions carelessly thrown into a back room, with fragile glasses, houseplants and paintings crushed under heavy tools and leaking bottles of cooking oil. This is for work "done" a few months ago. * They're rude and disrespectful beyond belief right from the very start, but naturally more so toward the end, and intolerably so after I had finally had enough and terminated their dumbasses. * Would only do 30 minutes of work a day sometimes, and only did 0-3 days of work a week. So it was like they moved into and took over my house for 3 or so months when it could have been done in less than 2 weeks. * Barged into my house at 6 am after I let them put a pad lock key storage on my front door so they could do the work when I wasnt home. And that was also after they were told not to come early that day if at all due to an illness and personal issue. * Left a giant orange stain on my driveway from seting up a moble workshop there instead of in the available garage without my permission in the least. I discovered their vandalism after coming home from commuting back from school. They then agreed it was their responsibility and to clean it up in order to get me to agree to let them continue the work, right up until when I fired them of course. Its a simple example of nature in action: when you create an action with your lazy, incompetent, and ridiculous disregaurd for your paying clients privacy, property, and even dignity, then you simultaneously create the opposite reaction of getting your sorry asses fired even with job almost done. A toilet leak on the main floor left us with significant water and mold damage in our downstairs bathroom. After receiving several recommendations, we turned to Jim Black construction for our mold remediation and bathroom restoration. Our project manager kept everything organized, and on time. They provided the services of a design consultant to help us choose materials and colors for our bathroom restoration, without additional cost. The project manager stopped by multiple times to check on progress and address any concerns. The mold and asbestos remediation went quickly and efficiently. The bathroom was restored on time, and on budget. The minimal "hiccups," and change orders, were handled immediately and professionally. Jim Black was an excellent advocate for us with our insurance company and obtained the maximum, correct, insurance payment for our claim. Final project completion and payment were clearly explained and documented. We are very satisfied with Jim Black's plumbers, electricians, painters and general trades, and the overall outcome of the entire project. Our bathroom is restored and is more useful than before! We are completely satisfied and would recommend Jim Black construction to anyone considering a repair, restoration, or home improvement project. Final Notes: (1) When we contacted a national "restoration" company - they would not schedule our repair or even give us an estimated start date within six months. "Big Restoration Company" installed dehumidification machines that rendered our bathroom unusable. It certainly was not like it never even happened. The property damage claim I filed though insurance recommended these guys. I would never ever use these guys again. Project for water leak damage took over 5 months to complete, and the communication between site supervision and pm is terrible. I didn't get credited nearly enough for the work I did myself, and they wouldn't pay to level my floors after they ripped my entire floor and replaced sub floor which ended up leaving an eighth inch step down. My landlord hired this company on July 7th for mold extraction and it's now July 20th and I'm still displaced. They were very accommodating at first to lock up the business. A third party has advised us on two occasions that more work is needed so they did not do a effective job the first time. Communication: To date they have "no showed" twice and when they do commit to a job they refuse to even give a time slot. You basically have to wait on their command. We recently had to fire Jim Black Construction and this is why: They would show up unannounced to work. They would say contractors were coming one day and then on that day when they don't show up I need to call to find out they were not coming. They tracked dirt all through my house. They textured and painted over most of my outlets I had to call multiple times and ask for an update on something- always promised a call back, never received a call back. It took over a month to finally get a update on carpet installation and was told "maybe Monday" Throughout our time with using Jim Black we were completely dissatisfied. They also installed vinyl tile flooring planks which are now coming apart less then 6 months later. If you do go with them make sure to question the bill because they are out to take your $$ and do a shitty job. read more

In October I had water come into my house. My insurance company recommended Jim Black Construction. The project manager, Rob, came out to do a quote and his inefficiency and lack of knowledge about water claims caused my insurance company to deny the claim!! It has taken nearly 8 weeks for my insurance company to finally approve the claim after calling in another contractor that knows what they're talking about. So much undue stress for no reason. We had a fire at one of our rentals the day before Thanksgiving 2020. JBC showed up on Thanksgiving morning to secure/winterize the property. JBC worked with us and our Insurance company to put the house back together. This was nearly a complete remodel due to the fire/abatement process. I just ended a long ordeal where and upstairs neighbors shower drain leaked on me back in June. Another contractor did the tear down of the rotted dry wall (and made a mess doing so) and then it took some time to get the pipe fixed. Anyway, I had a heck of a time getting a contractor to come out and put up new drywall as it's a "small job" and they don't seem to want to bother with it. But Jim Black got out in a fairly timely manner, did a quality, professional job, and did a good cleanup, not leaving a mess. I highly recommend Jim Black. read more

My water heater gave out and leaked everywhere! I of course called my home owners insurance, fast forward to after clean up and replacing the water heater and my home owners insurance sent Jim black to come out and fix the damages. They were fine in the aspect of fixing the drywall in my garage, but it took days later to replace my garage light and tighten my garage door so it wouldn't shake when opening and closing and painting. But I guess what makes me upset is the disregard of my garage they had for clean up after themselves. There's paint on my shelves, nails on my garage floor. Tape still left on my garage door. Paint on my garage door. And trash and debris all over my garage that I have to clean. I recommend staying clear of this company. read more

Absolutely amazing! I fully recommend to everyone to go to Jim Black for your needs, they will take care of you and your property quickly, professionally, safely, and with respect. We had some water damage in our bathroom that resulted in needing to fix the entire upstairs and the garage. Jim Black Construction really helped us out with the repair and some upgrades that we added on, including expanding the shower, adding in a standalone tub, replacing tile, replacing laminate flooring, and paint. Rob had excellent recommendations and always made sure that we were getting what we wanted and needed, as well as helping with sharing details with the insurance company. Ron and Kyle, the supervisors for the work, followed up on everything and they knew everything about the job. In addition, they had all the information at their fingertips. Every single step of this work has been seamless, enjoyable, and gives us such peace of mind. We had Jim Black rebuild our home after a house fire in 2005, we're very satisfied then, so when we had a second house fire in 2017, we hired them again. Different story this time, so many small things that were not done well, they did fix them, but not the quality work we expected from our previous job. We had issues with the cork flooring, were promised call backs, but a year and a half later we still have a hideous floor with large gaps between tiles and gouges that were in the flooring the day we moved back in. The flooring manufacturer had a rep come out, he took pics, they all took pics, but have gotten no resolution to this expensive fail. read more

My house flooded May 8th, and I met with Jason Cowan of Jim Black Construction on May 19th. I told him I had relatives flying in to stay with me in August. He reassured me project would be long completed by then. June 15th, I was stressed that a month had gone by with no work, and I reminded Jason of my August houseguests. He said job will be no more than 3 weeks and would be completed in July. June 23rd, I had a flooring appt with Jason, which he cancelled same day. July 9th, I gave Jason my LVP selection. July 29th , Jason emailed and said he'd work on my file extensively to make up for the delay. Aug 4th - Aug 9th, my relatives fly in and stay with me in a demolished house. Guest toilet is in the bathtub, drywall is ripped out, ceilings are missing, and flooring is pulled up. No remodel has begun, or even scheduled. Aug 17th, 45 min call with Jason to explain the changes that needed to be made to my work order and ask him to bring carpet and pad samples. Aug 19th, Jason brought wrong color carpet samples and no carpet pad samples and said he would come back Mon at 9am. Aug 23rd, I took the day off, but Jason was a NO SHOW with the pad samples. Aug 26th, Jason texted to see how he could "speed up the process" even though he has been MIA since he stood me up on Monday. It's also been 9 days that I've been waiting on the work order changes. Aug 27th, Jason showed up with pad samples. He said his boss got onto him about why I was the oldest project on the books. Sep 28th, I asked Jason the ETA on my vinyl plank, and he said my flooring was on the way and he'll give me an ETA on Friday. Friday came (Oct 1st) and Jason tells me my plank selection was discontinued Aug 1st. Since I made the selection on July 9th, I realize he had never ordered it, and now my choice is gone and the prices have gone up. Oct 5th, he sends me to a flooring rep who will "have choices ready for me that are similar to my original selection." I arrived and all "my choices" were all a completely different color than the original flooring I had chosen. The rep had only 1 sample at the store that was the color I wanted, but she said it would cost me $1,800 more. I told her that was out of the question unless Jim Black would split that with me since they dropped the ball. She texted Jason to propose that. Oct 6th I went floor shopping hoping to do things faster myself. I called the Jim Black office to ask for my square footage and budget for material cost per square foot. Donelle Smith told me she was Jason's manager, and she would have to pull my file and find my numbers. She would also look into the holdup and why nothing has been done since May. I told her the flooring rep didn't have anything that was the same color scheme except one floor that was $1800 more, and I was not interested in that. She suggested maybe they could cover that cost, but she'd have to look into it. I agreed to wait patiently until I heard back from her, which halted my shopping, since I didn't have my square footage or materials budget from her yet. Oct 6th, Donelle called me back for the express purpose of reassuring me that she would not drop the ball on me. I thanked her and agreed to wait patiently for her return phone call with my numbers and to see if they would comp any of the floor cost, as she proposed. Oct 13th...one week and still no word from Donelle with my numbers.Oct 14th - Still no numbers, but Jason sends me a change order for an additional $4700!! I had no clue why, so I called him and he said it's for the floor that I ruled out when I was told it was $1,800 more. I said the estimate was confusing, and he said, "well most people are capable of understanding estimates." Still no word from Donelle on my numbers. Oct 22nd - I parted ways with Jim Black. They literally didn't even start this project in 5 months and cost me time, money, and the floor I wanted. Still no word from Donelle; glad I didn't hold my breath. Within 2 days of getting my refund, my bathroom was remodeled by a contractor who was prompt and eager to work. read more

Jim Black Construction was recommended to our landlord by our insurance company. We are working with our very supportive landlord to have Jim Black removed from the insurance company's list of recommended contractors. Do NOT use this company. Here are the issues that we experienced with Jim Black, hired to fix our bathroom after water damage in the ceiling and walls: - Not wearing masks in our home or even having them on their person. We asked them to wear one as I am high risk with COVID-19 and they still did not wear masks in our home. - Rescheduling and no shows - this happened a number of times. Managing a calendar shows baseline competence and this was not the case. - Poor communication and overall incompetence. - Not following through with the work they would say they would complete on a timeline. - My roommate and I had to put the bathroom door back on because they did not do it as they said they would. We are missing a piece of trim and still do not have our shower curtain back up. - Not professional quality of paint work. There are runs of paint on our walls, paint on the bathroom cabinets, mirror, light switch, toilet, radiator, window sill, floor, counter. They painted with the window open and while working on the window frame, they painted it open. It doesn't appear that they taped anything, or removed any fixtures before painting. Overall, we are very disappointed by the quality and incompetency of this company and we do not recommend that they are hired for repairs in your home. read more

I had a sewer backup into part of the living area of my house and after having the remediation done by another company (I used Yelp to locate several companies and went with the first one that was available to come out immediately. Apparently Jim Black does remediation as well but I wasn't aware of that), I hired Jim Black to do the repairs. I chose Jim Black based on several factors. First, they were on a list of "preferred" contractors given to me by my insurance company. Second, after checking all the companies on the afore-mentioned list, Jim Black appeared to have the best reviews on social media. Lastly, when I called for a quote, apparently I somehow ended up speaking with the owner of the company - a man called "Jimmy". At the time I had no idea he was the owner. I explained my problem and even though this was going to be a small job, Jimmy assured me Jim Black could take care of my problem and I would be treated like any other customer. I met with the project manager (who even made a comment on our initial meeting about my phone call with the owner of the company) and scheduled a walk through with a quote. After getting the quote and discussing matters with my wife I decided to go ahead with Jim Black. I had to have drywall, trim and floorboards replaced, carpet replaced and walls painted. Through the entire process I was happy with the timeline, the crews that came out and did the work, and felt like Jim Black stayed in contact with me through the entire process. My biggest complaint with contractors in general is that they don't communicate well and Jim Black was good about communicating with me. This was a pleasant surprise. Everyone that came into my home was friendly, communicated what would take place that day, was mindful of my house and my pets, and overall did a good job. We get to the very end of the project and this is where things go south. I'm supposed to meet the project manager at my home to hand over the check and get two minor items addressed: A strip of trim where my newly carpeted stairs meet the hard wood floors of my kitchen needs to be installed, and the door to the water heater closet needs to be re-hung because it wasn't hung correctly by the repair guys. What he doesn't know is that because of how everything has gone so far, my wife and I have decided to ask him for quotes for some major projects in the house. We want to completely renovate our downstairs bathroom, possibly remove a wall in our kitchen to open it up to our dining room, and/or completely remove and re-pour our driveway outside. Granted - we're probably not going to do all three, but we do know we want these items taken care of, and already checked into re-finance options to pay for at least one of the projects. Between our equity, home values going up and rates being at an all-time low, it's a good time to re-finance. We were ready to spend a lot more money with Jim Black than just on this particular project. So back to meeting the project manager for the last couple of items and the payment check. Due to both his and my schedule, we're unable to meet that Monday. He tells me he'll give me a call a couple of days later to meet. Two weeks go by without a call. I call him, he apologizes, says he'll call me in a couple days to meet. Two more weeks go by. I call him again. He apologizes again, and... says he'll call me in a couple of days to meet. Again. Yet two more weeks go by. I'm now angry because I feel blown off, I just want this done, and the door that should have been hung correctly fell on my granddaughter while she was visiting. (To be clear - that wasn't Jim Black's fault - she was messing with the door when she shouldn't have been. But... if the door had been hung correctly, or if I hadn't been blown off by the project manager - it wouldn't have happened.) Ultimately I had to make an appearance at their office to get anything to happen, and due to more miscommunication that day with both the project manager and their accounting department I finally decided that Jim Black and I were done. The main portion of the project was finished and I was ready to wipe my hands of Jim Black. I had gone from extremely satisfied and ready to hire them for more major projects to simply wanting them out of my life. I shouldn't have to make call after call after call after call to get a project finished. I'm especially disappointed because I thought "These are THE guys. This is THE company I'm going to use to renovate my house." And then they let me down. Maybe it's a good thing - before I get wrapped up with them in a larger project, but I thought I had finally found a decent contractor I could trust and work with. I guess I was wrong. Why more than one star? I try to be fair about my reviews - I think a lot of people would give them one star after the experience at the end, but I have to take into account the entire experience. If your house floods and you need it dried out, then hire these guys. Unfortunately, that is all they are good for. DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT hire them to then fix your house. I have had them out to do drywalling, painting and a few others things. They seem to contract these jobs out. The people who then come to fix your house barely speak English and could careless about the quality of their work. They have taken almost 4 months to fix what should have been a week long project. Jim Black doesn't communicate to these guys what exactly all needs to be fixed, so they take their best stab at it and then leave as soon as they can. Leaving me with half of the work not done and what was done needing to be redone. They have been to my house at least ten times now just trying to fix what they messed up. Things like; leaving paint on my ceiling, not fixing what they should have....etc. Today the painters were back out and there boss came to check on them and had to have them redo a job they had just done in my bathroom because they didn't remove excess drywall, they just painted over it! Lazy....Sloppy....and Unprofessional. They also did a dry wall patch to fix a crack THEY put in my wall and it doesn't match the rest of my wall! I could literally go on and on about how terrible this has been.....I'm so frustrated! The icing on the cake has been the damages to my house that they caused though. They dented my freezer in my garage, they cracked my wall...twice and all sorts of other things. DO NOT HIRE THEM! I want to save anyone I can from the hassle, stress and aggravation I am going through now just having them them fix things they messed up! read more

We had a house fire three years ago. My house was a total loss except for the brick exterior. I got Jim Black Construction's name from my insurance, they are not allowed to recommend but can tell the companies they have worked with, If you have ever had this type of experience you know that I had companies at my house while the fire trucks were still working on the fire. JBC was not one of them. I did call JBC and talked to their representative, Danny McNally, who came right over and told me what they could do. I liked his approach and hired them. JBC had a team out there immediately. Danny worked with my insurance company the entire time. He watched out for our interest completely. We were kept in the loop at all times. I had access to Danny 24/7. They did excellent work and got things fixed or replaced that I would not have thought possible. They also warrantied all their work. We don't usually give a 5 Star rating, but my wife and I talked about it and felt JBC deserved it for the quality and service that was provided to us. I would highly recommend Jim Black Construction. We had a flood in our basement due to a frozen pipe that had cracked in the spring. It was a very unpleasant situation and Jim Black Construction was great. They were a suggested vendor from our USAA insurance and they did not disappoint. Their work was time efficient and at a high level. I really appreciated how easy they made things and the reassurance they gave me that our was a common problem and not as big of a deal as I had feared. We had our roof replaced last fall by Jim Black Construction and things looked good. Our furnace went off this morning so we called a heating company who found that Jim Black Construction had put the chimney to furnace on wrong which over heated the furnace and turned it off. Not only did the furnace turn off but there was carbon monoxide in the house due to the chimney being vented wrong. So my family has been being poisoned every time the furnace has ran since last fall. DO NOT hire these guys. read more

CAUTION: AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS. We had severe flooding in our house. In the midst of the chaos, we just took USAA's recommendation that we use this company to do the repairs. It appears that USAA uses them solely because they are cheap. However, please trust me that it is not worth the headache. I have never dealt with a more difficult company. They are HORRIFIC to work with administratively and do not do good work. They also went behind our back communicating with the insurance company and misrepresented the damage. Now, months after this ordeal is finally over, they are threatening to put a lien on our house if they don't get paid tens of thousands of dollars. Apparently they filed their claim with USAA incorrectly and have not yet been paid so they are suddenly calling us multiple times a day harassing us for the money. We're trying to work with USAA to get the money paid to them, but the company's representative cannot even have a rational conversation. She just keeps yelling belligerently and accusing us of stealing from them. I've never worked with a less professional company. Overall, I've probably spent 40+ hours dealing with their BS outside of what would be involved with any other decent company. AVOID AVOID AVOID! read more

If it could be zero it would be. My house had to be rebuilt completely from a fire. Way under schedule and way over budget. They said it would take 6 months and it took 9. Almost every month they had a new reason to charge me more money. My favorite was when they didn't even know the local code for attic insulation in Adams county so had to charge me more for that. Very disappointed that a company who is supposed to rebuild houses doesn't even know local codes then charges me more because they screwed up. Next is when we sat down together to pick out all the fixtures I told them I wanted oiled rubbed bronze fixtures in my bathroom. He even wrote it down. Months later I discover they put in chrome. The cheapest finish they could buy. When I asked them about it they said "oh shoot I even wrote that down. well oil rubbed bronze is more expensive so you have to pay more for us to change that out" Wait why? Once again they screw up and once again they want to charge me more money. Other things they refused to fix include light switches installed on the wrong side of the wall for a room. My basement sink is double trapped which is against plumbing code. And they guy who did the tile poured grout down my floor drain. Now they did fix it but it tool them over a week to do it. Warranty, why bother, I have a tenant in the basement that pays rent. All of her outlets and lights just stopped working. on Saturday, I call Jim Black on Sunday he responds on Monday saying he can come over Tuesday he says an electrician will be here on Thursday, at 5 pm I call him because no one has shown up. He says he will show up tomorrow. At this point my tenant has been out of power for 6 days. I call my own electrician and it is fixed by 7 pm the same day on Thursday night. now of coarse they don't want to pay for it because "it wasn't their electrician" Well having to live in the dark for over a week is unacceptable. All in all DO NOT TRUST JIM BLACK CONSTRUCTION! You will pay way more money then planned, It will take way longer then planned, And when an issue arises don't hold your breath because it seems to always take over a week to get the most simple thing fixed. read more

I would avoid this contractor at all cost. Several years ago they were hired by my management company to fix various problems in our complex after a big hail storm. Jimmy Black was very rude when I reported the shady work his people did. They had to return several times to fix a problem that should have taken care of the first time. When they replaced our windows, they knocked everything near by down and didn't bother to clean it up before leaving. They scratched and dented my window sills. I would absolutely never use Jim Black Construction again. I am also disappointed in USAA for recommending them in the first place. I had a leak in my roof that only happened during rain storms. I explained the problem to Jim Black Construction and they came out to look at it. The work was expensive and after they completed it, the roof leak was still there. This entire process started in March and they didn't finish the work until May-ish. After several back and forth discussions, I had them reduce the amount owed for the work since they didn't complete what they said they would and then roof leak didn't go away. I had to hire another company to come out and complete the work and they ended up ripping out the entire roof and redoing it for LESS than the entire cost of what I paid Jim Black Construction. To make things worse, they didn't contact me for payment until 4+ months afterwords. From beginning to end, I dealt with them from March 2018 - September 2018 for a problem they did not fix. It is a shame that USAA associates themselves with a company that cannot figure out how to solve a simple roof leak. I would not recommend this company to anyone. read more

After our rental property cause fire in 2016 and we found out that the damages were so bad that the house had to be stripped to the frame and sub-flooring, we were at a loss and in a bind. USAA insurance highly recommended Jim Black Construction to us and we were so very grateful! Their team at the office was incredibly reassuring and easy to work with and were such kind and pleasant people. The construction team did beautiful work, were prompt and worked together with us with picking out materials that made the house look stunning! Our 1980s rental property went from devastation to one of the most marketable and sought after homes on the market! We can't thank Jim Black Construction enough for helping us through this crisis and making it the best and most pleasant process possible. DO NOT HIRE!!! Terrible to work with. I was displaced from my home for 5 weeks due to water damage from a sewage backup. The repairs should have only taken 2 weeks. Several times workers never showed up, which meant more time I needed to stay in a hotel. The contractors needed to re-do poorly done work too many times. Very unprofessional. And the superintendant rarely showed up to inspect work. What a pain! I do not recommend this company! read more

We had a very bad mold problem and Jim Black construction was highly recommended to us. They were on top of the project from beginning to end and completed the project 4 weeks prior to the projected completion date. The mold mitigation team was top notch - on time, quick, friendly, polite, knowledgeable and excellent work. The construction side was good too- they stuck to their schedule and even finished the project quicker than expected. No complaints about quality either, we are very satisfied with the work. We decided to install kitchen counter top since the kitchen was torn apart and they worked closely with the company doing the project and stuck to a timeline that worked for everyone. Overall, we are very satisfied with the company and their work and would highly recommend them. read more

Jim Black Construction is a preferred provider for my insurance company. When my house was damaged due to water, they responded that day. My wood floors were ripped up, big dryers brought in, lots of temperature taking. The restoration included new walnut floors (custom milled to match existing), new base boards (again custom milled to match existing), new subfloors, crawl space insulation, refinish floors and repaint throughout. My house is beautiful again! I wish I could hire their painters to work for me, but Jim Black keeps them too busy. The old matches the new perfectly. This company has many subcontractors, and they used the company that originally installed my floors. You can request that. Sure it took time. The floors especially had to be milled, dried out, dried out some more in Colorado, installed, refinished, but my Jim Black crew just advised me to be patient. And WOW! I love my house again.
