Well, this store is as amazing as advertised! Super fun and super funky and that is the overall…read morecharm of this place. I stayed next-door at the Norwich Inn while attending some King Arthur Baking classes... And I'm sure I was over there twice a day for something! The McWhit breakfast sandwich is very, very good! I had one when I arrived, and I even took one on the road to the airport with me. Whether I needed water bottles or a treat or some souvenir?? It was there! I was even able to find some random kitchen tools that I have not seen in years. Staff is super nice and friendly. This store is obviously a huge and important part of the community. My hotel room had a window looking out at the parking lot and cars just streamed in and out all day long. As I was leaving, I thanked the clerk and told him I thought every town should have a store like this! I love my town, but too many chain grocery stores and dollar stores and nothing can beat Dan and Whits!

Well stocked general store right next to the Norwich Inn…read more We were in town for the King Arthur baking school and came here several times to get ziplock bags to pack all our food; get a few gallons of drinking water b/c with the cold weather outside the heaters inside are going to dry you up and tasty chicken salad and cured meats to eat with all our baked goods. Everyone is super friendly and we loved all the stands outside the store from a "wall of kindness" free coat rack to the free library to the eyeglass donation bin. It gave it all the small town and proud proprietor vibes that we don't get in Oakland with boarded up storefronts, vandalism and broken glass. EV Drivers - there are two slow chargepoint EV chargers in their parking lot.

Last week I stopped in to fill my car w/gas because the posted price with the Irving Debit Pay…read morediscount was $3.09 a gallon. I activated Irving Debit Pay on the Irving app and filled up. I was charged $3.29 a gallon. When I went inside and inquired, the cashier acknowledged that there was a problem with the pumps, but the only person who could refund me the overpayment was the manager who was gone for the day. I called the next day and spoke with the manager who told me she is there till 2pm on weekdays and until 8am on Saturdays and acknowledged that the problem has been going on for over a week, but they had not been able to get Irving to fix it. I imagine that was beyond their control. But they also had not changed the sign and they were only giving people refunds if they noticed that they were not charged the posted price and requested a refund during the manager's hours. Because I was able to go back during her hours, I did. (I wonder how many other people notice the discrepancy, take the time to question it, and have the ability to come back when she is there.) She looked at my receipt and told me that it didn't say Irving Debit Pay. I showed her that my emailed receipt did, in fact, say "Irving Debit Pay". She then told me that she could only give me the Irving Debit Pay price if I activated Irving Debit Pay using my plastic Irving card rather than on the Irving app. When I pointed out that it was still Irving Debit Pay, she told me she would do it "just this once" but next time I need to use the plastic Irving card and not the Irving app. I'm puzzled why she assumes there will be a next time.

We recently lost our RiteAid near our town so this became the only corporate pharmacy in the area,…read morea half hour away. Not to say we don't have excellent local pharmacies in our town, but sometimes you need a corporate store for such things as immunizations, which was my case in this instance. The check in process was uneventful and fast. I had made the appointment and paperwork online several days ago and the reception was fast. The inoculations specialist, Ian, was courteous and very efficient. I had my booster before I knew it. The rest of the store is fine. Well stocked, very good variety. Excellent wine section too, with many of the lesser priced items on the shelves. Of course, I'm not coming to CVS for a Chateau Latour, but if I'm having a cookout with a bunch of people, this will do. As in the old Rite Aid, they have BOGO on many of the vitamins. Overall a pleasant experience.

To make it worse, most of the sales people sit by and announce they cannot help you until you correctly fill out the computer screens. They have not connected the notion of helping customers with service. And to top it off, there are unending phone calls with synthesized voices telling you to come down and pick up or order a script. They are the worst. The woman who often is at the drive thru is the exception. She is friendly, helpful and competent. Too bad Rite Aid left town.

On the drive back from Montpelier to Portland, following the pilgrimage made by many a New Englander to witness solar eclipse totality, I had to get off the road, out of traffic, and find a restroom stat. It was divine intervention that made me pull off that specific exit. It seemed dead amongst the nearby businesses in that little enclave, but a hint of human activity pulled me towards Vermont Spirits. After my coy request and use of the restroom (what a relief!), I stood at the bar and asked about their line of products. Barkeep Meg was nice enough to allow me to sample some of their offerings, including the super secret juice! Also really appreciated being able to talk with the chief, Randy, and exchange eclipse experiences. Really friendly folks, and it truly kept my sanity in check. Thanks for the conversation and allowing this wayward traveller use of your restroom. My bladder thanks you! I've already cooked up a couple cocktails with the No. 14. Delicious stuff!
