They have a number of selections which are previously prepared, still a little bit better than what you'd expect at a gas station. They also have made to order deli selections and the staff prepares some excellent food. Service at Jake's deli's/Irving gas stations is generally excellent. The people in the staff try to ensure customer satisfaction. This Jake's is relatively new, after having been completely rebuilt after an unfortunate fire several years ago. You probably wonder why I've given them only two stars after a laudatory verbal description. I did so because of their lack of preparedness for the COVID-19 pandemic. I came in to order sandwiches and there was not one single customer wearing a mask, none of the staff except the cashier were wearing masks, there were no signs for social distancing, only one single sign outside of the door. If they had some measures in place in the middle of this pandemic, they would easily rate four stars. As it is right now, I would not recommend anyone to enter this Jake's deli except for a one or two minute visit.

Cleaner and more efficient. Particularly, their beer selections now include many local microbrews. Best of all, they replaced all the gasoline tanks that were old. The new tanks are state of the art Their sandwiches are well made, lots of meats and fresh vegetables. As well, they have the only car wash in town. And they employ local kids who would have to travel long distances for employment.

Repeated mask problems during COVID. Recently a gruff burly woman making sandwiches was wearing her…read moremask below her chin--in this time when New Hampshire generally and New London specifically is experiencing highest numbers of COVID cases and hospitalizations. Customer in front of me asked the lady about it and she moved the mask below her nose. She looked like she was going to spit in the sandwich as soon as the customer wasn't looking. I was in there to order 5 sandwiches for a family lunch, but decided for our health not to and instead just bought a couple of bottles of water. Jake's lost around $50 on us that day for everything we would have bought for lunches (sandwiches, chips, dessert, etc.) Today I returned. Two customers walking around not wearing masks. I asked the nice cashier about it and she confided it's wisest for her not to comment on masks given some people who come would not take it well--and I knew precisely what she meant. Some pretty motley looking folks seem to frequent Jake's. A red-faced swaggery customer behind me--not wearing a mask--overheard me ask about masks in the store, and he starting taunting me for the type of mask I was wearing. I decided I didn't want to be anywhere near someone like that, or be in that store, so I left. Other than this clear problem with masks and sometimes quite seedy looking people working in the store (not the female cashiers who are nice and seem pretty normal) and sometimes pretty creepy looking folks hanging around the parking lot, Jake's has really good coffee, an interesting and wide variety of foods, and their homemade sandwiches tend to be delicious. You can also get Vermont made ice cream and home-baked dog biscuits, and other assorted things. When I got back to my parents' house I mentioned what happened. My brother said he'd never go to Jake's for that reason and my Dad said their friends don't go there anymore due to lack of masks (they're older).

An older couple with an elderly gentleman with them asked the staff who were serving ice cream why…read morethey weren't wearing masks and they responded that masks are not required. It seems clear that staff in retail establishments in close contact to customers (less than 2 feet through the ice cream window) are required to wear masks per NH law. And even if they weren't can't they care enough about their customers to do so? They dismissed these folks rather rudely. Not impressed.

This is about half way for us and we like it as it is right off the highway. Inside they have a mini Dunkin Donuts, grab and go snacks, hotdogs, drinks, beer, wine, and the typical convenience store stuff. Irving gas is pretty competitive with their prices as well so you can fill up here without feeling guilty. Also next door is Market Basket and McDonald's if you need that.

Besides an Irving gas station, the market has a wide array of convenience items and even more, enough for us to have run across the street to purchase food items when we ran out of food at a church function.
