Cold and snowy day... January 22, 2025…read more.. Southbound on the 91outside of White River Junction, VT... sensed a strong odor of antifreeze... pulled into a gas station... Yep... broken water pump and overheating... Mind you, this GMC 2018 Sierra (fully paid off)... has gotten me completely cross country back in October, 2024... with no issues, not even a scratch... Vehicle is towed to Bob's Service Center at 10 am that day... Not Bob, but Josh... "Let's see, water pump, coolant and belt tensioner assembly need replacing... it'll be ready by two..." Josh was right on schedule... Professional, thorough, and kind... Picked up the vehicle... warranted work for 2 years/24,000 miles... back on the freeway I went... only a few hours delay... but no matter... the vehicle must be reliable... It was... Coldest day in White River Junction... This driver and owner will seek these gentlemen out for future auto repairs... they are simply the best... And kind... They explained everything... I do appreciate the thoughtful and thorough approach... A cold day driving with a vehicle failure... could have been made much more difficult... but it was not... it was a beautiful day... I was charged $3.29 a gallon. When I went inside and inquired, the cashier acknowledged that there was a problem with the pumps, but the only person who could refund me the overpayment was the manager who was gone for the day. I called the next day and spoke with the manager who told me she is there till 2pm on weekdays and until 8am on Saturdays and acknowledged that the problem has been going on for over a week, but they had not been able to get Irving to fix it. I imagine that was beyond their control. But they also had not changed the sign and they were only giving people refunds if they noticed that they were not charged the posted price and requested a refund during the manager's hours. Because I was able to go back during her hours, I did. (I wonder how many other people notice the discrepancy, take the time to question it, and have the ability to come back when she is there.) She looked at my receipt and told me that it didn't say Irving Debit Pay. I showed her that my emailed receipt did, in fact, say "Irving Debit Pay". She then told me that she could only give me the Irving Debit Pay price if I activated Irving Debit Pay using my plastic Irving card rather than on the Irving app. When I pointed out that it was still Irving Debit Pay, she told me she would do it "just this once" but next time I need to use the plastic Irving card and not the Irving app. I'm puzzled why she assumes there will be a next time.

The kids and I were hungry for lunch so I ventured inside the station (oops, sorry, the "market"), to ask if there was a restaurant or diner nearby they'd recommend. What the guy behind the counter said to me just astounded me. He said "I have no idea. I never eat out". Like, what? I repeated, well, has he heard of any decent places from anyone (thinking, surely, in this small town, even if it's true that this guy never ever ever had a meal outside of his White River Junction home, surely he's HEARD of a restaurant that was good, right?). Nope! He said perhaps the restaurant down the street was good but he doesn't know, he 's never been there, he's "an eat-in kind of guy". I am quoting him verbatim. Meanwhile, he never looked up at me, as he was sorting money in the cash register. Not once did he look up, or make any sort of eye contact. This whole exchange was out of a Jerry Seinfeld episode (for those of you who get the reference!). Who out there lives in a small town (let alone, perhaps, a large city) who can't recommend a place for a passer-through to get lunch? Worst customer service ever.

March 28th and to please not make further deliveries. Well, they delivered propane on the 27th. When I called they said they did have a record of my call, but their contract accounts for a fill-up prior to a sale. I have never in my life heard of such a thing. While the people who purchased our property opened an account at Irving with our recommendation. When I said we were arranging for the new owners to make the payment, Irving said they would only accept payment from me. Customer-centric? Nope!
