Coolest little store ever, they have anything you might be looking for! And the store is much bigger than you think. I think we met the Dan (owner) and he was the most friendliest guy ever as well as the most helpful. Asked us where we are headed towards as it was late in the night and he recommended something that would help us stay up for the drive. Will need to visit again!

Doesn't look like much from the outside...

I need some toothpaste This place is so darn crazy Holy crap I'm lost (If you've never been to Dan & Whit's, you really do need to check it out. What appears to be a regular, medium-sized store is actually a gigantic labyrinth. Seriously! Walk in there and just see if you don't get lost... the place just keeps on going, and going and going. Fortunately, if you DO get lost, you could probably live in there for years... they have EVERYTHING! Highly recommended.)

    Garden stuff.

Things I found here: a roll of tickets. Jack London-style snow shoes. Yarn. Apricot parfait. Carhartt sweaters. The scent of a female deer. Yard ornaments in the shape of an anthropomorphic frog doing yoga poses (badly). Etcetera. As others have noted, it's a chaotic jumbley mess of a general store, emphasis on GENERAL. You'll find one of everything here, but it's not necessarily guaranteed to be the highest quality or in the color that you want. Items were piled crazily onto the shelves, which was cool for atmosphere, but also made things feel a little bit dusty and low-quality. At least, some of those kid's plush toys looked sad and not great for the asthmatic.

However, the staff are not helpful, not pleasant and are quite rude. If it were not for the flowers themselves I would go elsewhere like Vermont Cut Flowers. They have wonderful flowers with a great staff but I didn't have time to go over there. After having lived in the Upper Valley for about 20 years the attitude sadly reinforces Hanover's reputation. I have enjoyed their annual Dairy Day where they promote products to encourage you to shop at their store but again the overall attitude continues to discourage me from shopping there. The flowers themselves 5 stars. The service probably 1.5.

Sort of like subscribing to those businesses that send you cool mystery packages, a farm share is where you pay to support the farm and in return you get a share of the farm's harvest, whatever they end up harvesting. You will need to pick it up yourself of course. Jules invited me to tag along with her to pick up the farm share harvest for the week. No one was really there to monitor everything that day (we were actually the only ones present at the moment). The farm people just left the harvested goods there in a barn and you sign off on the list that you picked up your share! This time around we got scallions, kale, and scallions. And Sweetland is the first place that came to mind. This place is working super hard to bring local, nutritious meats and produce to the community. On top of that, they do everything they can to actually build that community and it's resilience. In normal years, their CSA pickup and you pick crops for members are a really awesome way to meet and visit with neighbors, and they also host a variety of awesome events and let you wander around the beautiful farm. Chris and Norah and the crew are also really kind and welcoming. This year, despite being crazy busy filling their sold out CSA shares, they also put lots of time and effort into starting a grocery pick up service for community members to be able to get food safely. I worked with them on this project, and was amazed by how hard working, caring, and innovative they are. They really cared about their team, other local farmers, and their community. It's very inspiring to be around them.

When my wife came out she was in tears and extremely upset. My wife is about 5' tall and Vietnamese. She speaks English well and is friendly to everyone. It took some coaxing but I discovered she went to the 14 items lane and apparently actually had 16 items . The woman who had been extremely friendly to the previous shopper became extremely rude and even hostile for the crime of 2 extremely small items over the max that my wife missed because of how they had stacked in the cart. When my wife left said woman became extra nice to the shopper behind her. We have had many good experiences and many of the workers are friendly and show no signs of bias. We reported this incident to the store and no idea if there was action taken within. The second incident happened today and mirrors that of another Asian shopper who also left a comment. We will pay that review separately. It's experienced like these that will drive us from shopping at a store. If the store were to take a proactive approach to improving their inclusivity training and address biased employees we might consider returning.

I strongly advise against it; this establishment caters to affluent individuals lacking in taste, and for those of us who genuinely WORK hard for our earnings, it is a deceptive trap. I have no personal stake in expressing this; I urge you to cease patronizing these unscrupulous vendors. When you continue to support these individuals, they will persist in increasing their prices, and many of you do not even reside in Vermont, which makes it exceedingly costly for those of us who do. There is a special place in hell for you, as your only concern is your own selfish interests, disregarding others. Prices are high. The staff are professional, friendly, and helpful, except the manager/supervisor of the Prepared Foods section, a woman with a nasty edge. Speaking of prepared foods, fortunately, the muffins are now baked in-house, and are no longer wrapped in cellophane; they look and taste much better than they did when they were baked, off-site, and wrapped in cellophane. The bagels that they bake in the store, from their once frozen state, are like hockey-pucks, and are awful. The locally, bakery baked bagels are better, but, for bagels, my best advice is to head to The Works in Hanover, or The Works, inside DHMC, main campus, in Lebanon. Fortunately, the Lebanon Co-Op carries fresh baguettes that come from King Arthur Flour; they seem to be quite good on the day that they are baked (it's helpful to not have to make a trip to Norwich, VT, for fresh, King Arthur baguettes). In the Prepared Food section, it seems that the Co-Op has gotten rid of their former, rubbery, very commercial grade chicken, in their chicken salad. We have not tasted the Co-Op's other chicken entrees, in the Prepared Food section; one can only hope that the Co-Op got rid of their former, rubbery, commercial grade chicken, in the other prepared, chicken entrees. Some of the other prepared food entrees are very expensive, and of Walmart quality. I don't get it, I'd think that if the Co-Op was going to charge a very premium price for those prepared entrees, they'd, at least, deliver a high quality product, but, they don't. We pick and choose what we shop for at the Lebanon Co-Op. We'd like to support a local business, and OUR Co-Op, but the prices at the Lebanon Co-Op are very high, and the quality of the prepared foods, in general, sucks.
