Disappointing and Incompetent Service - Go to Strickland Brothers Instead! Jiffy Lube - McHenry, IL This is a review contrasting two visits to this specific Jiffy Lube location. First Visit (A few months ago): (4/5 Stars) I came in to get one of my headlights replaced. They had the part in stock, charged a fair price of around $40, and the service was quick and hassle-free. Based on this experience, I returned when my other headlight went out. Second Visit (Recent - 12/09/2025): (1/5 Stars) Today's experience was unacceptable and a total waste of my time. 1. Inconsistent Part Availability & Customer Runaround: I arrived at 5:15 PM and was told they didn't have the headlight in stock. The employee instructed me to go buy the part and bring it back, which I did. 2. Refusal to Work and False Claims: I returned with the part around 5:40 PM. After guiding me into the bay, they immediately backed out of the job, claiming a nut was "too rusted" to remove. This was clearly an excuse to avoid the work, especially since I knew the procedure for my make/model (accessing via the wheel well, not the hood). 3. Ignoring Customer Knowledge: I explicitly told them the correct procedure for my specific vehicle required turning the wheel and accessing the light through the wheel well. They completely brushed off my advice, acting as if they knew better, and didn't even attempt to try the correct method. It was obvious they simply didn't want the business. 4. Absurd Pricing/Up-selling: The final straw was one of the three employees, whose name I recall as TJ, who tried to scare me into an expensive repair by quoting an outrageous rate of $159/hour for "headlight harness repair/diagnoses." The Result: I left Jiffy Lube without service and immediately went to Strickland Brothers down the road. They correctly accessed and replaced the headlight in under 5 minutes at no charge at all. The mechanic there even confirmed how ridiculous and unfounded Jiffy Lube's "too rusted" claim was. It appears this Jiffy Lube location is hiring people who are either incompetent or simply unwilling to do basic maintenance work. I will never return to this Jiffy Lube and highly recommend everyone go to Strickland Brothers for reliable, honest service. read more

Jo, Matt and Laura (2 other employees didn't have shirts with names) were all AMAZING! I have a very low (and rare) car and they made sure it would clear the floor bay before pulling it in. Super attentive, knowledgeable, friendly and careful. Reset the oil life at my request (it's process, haha) Love that they siphon the old oil out vs messing with the plug and ring, etc. love that I can just stay in my car and relax while they work. Pricing is fair and comparable to any other oil places. Easy in and easy out. Super seamless experience. Will highly recommend! read more

First time user. I was greeted by the Jiffy lube representative went through a car check, made sure that my lights the tires the signals the brake lights and everything was functioning properly. I went to Jiffy Lube for an Uber inspection and was delighted by their swift fast service! It was like a scene out of the 1950's where 3 service people are all over the car checking this, that and the other all at the same time. Brought my 96 S10 for a synthetic oil change! Shocked they were getting 99.00 for a synthetic oil change! I understand prices increase but seriously? I agreed to it but was immediately disgusted when I was able to go to Woodmans for the same synthetic oil change for my 97 Silverado plus a $10 discount for $40.00. I went back to Jiffy Lube with a $10 off coupon 2 hours later and basically told me it would have to be used on a future oil change! NEVER AGAIN JIFFY LUBE! UPDATE!! I drive for Uber. To me, oil changes, flasher lights, optimal tire pressure and reliable service is not an option. It's a life & death critically important requirement. I have been to this JiffyLube in the past. They were satisfactory. But recently?? They have moved to a higher level!! There is NO BETTER service to be found in my opinion. The GM who has recently taken over this location is clearly taking this shop to a level of excellence I have rarely experienced in my many years as a driver. She (yes SHE!!!) runs a tight ship and has motivated her (yes HER!!) outstanding team to provide superior customer service, speedy and accurate automotive maintenance, and a flair for delighting her customers. It was one of the most amazing oil change experiences that I've ever had with any vehicle have ever owned. I went in with my BMW I3 which has an engine that's placed in the trunk of my car not only did they change my oil but they also informed me of how things worked and when I should be coming in for my checkups regularly, especially with a semi-electric car. So rude... I went there today and had a women yell to drive into the garage she will direct me. I am use to someone greeting me at my car and going into the waiting area. Apparently I wasn't going fast enough because the women yelled at me telling me I need to push the gas pedal. I was hesitant about driving my car over the large hole in the floor. As I sat in my car and waiting for the oil change another car pulled into the stall next to me and the women started yelling at them about pulling up. Charged my 17-year-old son the higher cost of a synthetic oil change when he supplied his own oil. I've never had this happen before when I've taken my car in and supplied my own oil. When called on it after the fact, they said "it's a new policy". $40+ more to pour the oil we supplied seems like a bad new policy. When I called another Jiffy Lube 10 miles away, they said the price would be the standard oil price, no matter what type of oil we supply. Must be a new policy in McHenry only... No reflection on the frontline workers as they've always been great. That said I've been to the Jiffy lube location in McHenry two times in the last week and both times they had only 1 or 2 employees. The first time a gentleman greeted me.and explained that it would at least an hour although there were only 2 cars ahead of me. The second visit was today and there was one employee running the entire thing. Then I called Jiffy lube in woodstock and asked if they were staffed and the employee there said they had 2 Associates working today. Bottom line is that Jiffy lube is paying their employees so poorly that they're leaving in droves. The manager and assistant manager quit the same day in MeHenry location and woodstock has issues staffing because of the corporate poor pay scale. Shame on Jiffy lube for not taking care of their frontline workers. Another corporate greed story. Shameful! read more

We were refused service at this facility. The posted hours of operation are 8:00am to 7:00pm. We arrived at 6:30pm to find one car in a bay and the other two bays empty, with no customers waiting. The employee approached our car and mumbled something about a "special order" they were performing that would require another 45 minutes to complete, and that we would need to come back in the morning. This was fully 1/2 hour before they closed. This is a business that in theory is operated to meet the needs of its customers. There is no excuse for refusing to serve a customer. If staffing is a problem, that is on them to figure out, not for their customers to have to adjust to. We drove 10 miles out of our way to specifically visit a Jiffy Lube because we believed a high-profile national chain would have dependable, consistent service. We will never visit this facility again. read more

We took our car there the day before we were going on a 2000 mile ride. 1000 miles into the ride I see something hanging from the bottom of my car and I look and it's oil tray. I took it back there today after we had taken our long trip and the tray had been flapping for about 2 to 3000 miles and I was told yeah that's that's loose but we didn't do it. I said well I'm not climbing under he car and pulling things down and it's a new car. They then fixed it and said sorry. Do not go here! read more

Stopped in to get a quick oil change, they had 2 cars in bay but nobody else ahead of me; figured it'd be quick, boy was I wrong! I waited well over an hour for an oil change, the people in the bay were also only getting oil changes; I've never had an oil change take so long in my life! These people need to learn what torque specs are, I shouldn't have to use a breaker bar to get the drain plug out, and the filter shouldn't have dents in it from my HAND trying to twist it off. Rarely does one write a review for NOT getting service, but that's exactly what this is. I used to use this Jiffy Lube all the time when I had a 2006 Taurus. I never had a problem with the service, I never felt pressured to buy anything extra (they would tell me if they felt I should change something, but never pressed the issue), etc. Since I never had problems before, I went today with my 2013 GMC Terrain. The Terrain has only had one oil change in its lifetime, and that one was done at the dealership since I had a coupon for a free oil change there. I pulled in this morning and was greeted by the manager on duty (whose name escapes me at the moment, sadly). The first thing he asked me was if I'd brought that specific car there before, and when I said I hadn't, he immediately told me that the car was probably all synthetic and would thus be a much more expensive oil change. He had me open the hood so he could double-check, and, sure enough, it's all synthetic. He said, point blank, that I should take it to the dealership because it would save me money (and he was right; a synthetic oil change at Jiffy Lube is around $80, and the dealership is charging $48.95). I'm writing this review simply to let the owners and managers (and potential customers) of that Jiffy Lube know that I sincerely appreciate the honesty that manager showed me this morning. That said, Jiffy Lube might want to consider adjusting the price of their synthetic oil changes, if all the newer cars are being built that way! read more

WARNING! I had an issue earlier last year with my new Jeep Cherokee - they forgot to tell me they broke a hinge on the oil plate under my car---so they neatly tucked it up under the car and the guys at the car wash noticed it hanging out when I was pulling in. I went back and they shared it broke, but it's not anything I need anyway. They will zip tie it if I want it back on. I had been going there for awhile and thought it was a one time mistake. Unfortunately, on my way out of town - to Minneapolis, I stopped in to my windshield washer fluid topped off and air put in my tire which was reading low. They told me they topped off some oil too as it was a little low. I wasn't 5 miles away and I started smelling oil. When I called them, they said it was nothing---perhaps a little got on the motor. As I drove, I didn't smell it---when I stopped and idled it was horrible. As I went along my trip, it became worse and worse. I stopped at another facility and found my oil cap was sitting on top of the engine and oil was everywhere! It was even on my back window from blowing under the car. The new facility (Not a Jiffy Lube) added oil to my car - 2 quarts low and tried to clean it up, but the fumes still filled my car. I went back to the Jiffy Lube in McHenry and explained what happened. They filed a claim (after speaking with 3 different people--all management) and asked me to get a quote from Fast Eddies to do a detail of my car because the fumes were probably in the fabric inside the vehicle. I returned with the quote and after several more calls, I received the approval to go get my car detailed. The cleaning did not remove the smell of oil from my car - still smell it strongly when idling, but I guess that is beside the point. I waited several weeks for the check to come in the mail. Left several messages for the "managers" to help me look into it and NEVER once a return call. When I finally could reach one of them, they told me to call the office that handles the claims - in Houston. This office has the option of dialing 1 - 9 depending on why you are calling. Not one of them has a human on the other or a working mailbox to leave a message. I asked them to have the Regional Manager call me and he has yet to return my call and they refuse to give me his number (until today - but I don't think it is accurate as there is no message in the mailbox?). Today I received a check for 1/3 of the cleaning. There is no one who can help me, no one who can return a call and no one at the corporate office to contact. SO, I guess if you take your car in for an oil change - and they do VERY routine service, you might be OK. Unless something goes wrong - then you are on your own. IF someone calls me to help and rectify this situation---I'll take this down. But I've never received such poor customer service from any service or store in my life. I will never return and will not recommend anyone use this facility. There are many other oil change stations in the area - I will be using one of them in the future. read more

I was at the McHenry location. They opened the door so I thought I should pull in like last time. This time the guy comes running over shaking his finger scolding me. " you don't pull it in. Is this your first time here or something ". Wow. I told him don't get smart with me and that's when he denied me service. Lol. Then behind the store they barricaded the street to leave. So I move it to leave. He then comes out swearing at me that I should just back up on the one way side. Totally unacceptable. read more

It's a quick lube shop. The service is great. The folks are friendly, and helpful. The wait time can very, but I usually manage to be in and out in less than 20 min. Gotta say though, if you're stuck there for some prolonged service, there is no WiFi and the coffee is turrible. read more

McHenry jiffy lube is amazing. Brian was incredibly friendly and informative. He open both the door to the building and ran to the passenger side to open my car door as well. The first few oil changes were good then something changed. My oil dipstick was cracked off in the tube on a 2 year old car with 20k miles. Then 2 oil changes later, they stripped my oil plug on the oil pan and took 3 hours to get it off. Everytime I go there they try to pressure sell a differential fluid flush, radiator flush, tranny flush etc. Not a place I will trust my vehicle too any longer. read more
