I was told it was because they had to use mobile one oil, and I found out from somebody who used to work there that that is the only kind of oil they have. I came in for a full synthetic oil change and was charged way overboard and although I paid for a package that includes an oil filter, I was told since they are low on that oil filter they will charge extra for that. Then the technician takes more than an hour on the vehicle and the car didn't go up to drain oil until more than 30-40 minutes after it was taken in the garage. Then the vehicle proceeds to take an hour and 45 minutes. Midas is overall a good company but this location disappointed. When I wanted to ask the technician ask questions for my vehicle, he never came out of his office. 100% dissatisfied First time at this location and will never return to this location, Libertyville and Gurnee are perfect Ended up going home after the oil change to find out they did not change the sticker on my windshield and neither did the technician tighten my bottom cover which caused my cover to touch the ground many times while driving. read more

My daughter went to Midas in Crystal lake Illinois for an oil change. The purpose of going was because there was a $59.99 coupon. She texted me to say it was going to cost $89.99 instead. I called to find out why, the gentleman proceeds to tell me because of oil disposal and taxes it was going to cost $84.07. I then stated if they had not started they needed to give her car back. She could get it done elsewhere without a coupon for cheaper. He put me on hold for a moment, returned to the phone and stated they had not started yet and was giving her car back. I then had her go to the dealership (which is always more pricey on everything) and it cost her $64.00 without a coupon! I would like someone to explain how you go from a $59.99 coupon to costing $84.00!!! That is some serious false advertising just to get someone in your store! I am beyond disappointed, my daughter was embarrassed, and the gentleman stated he will NOT be disrespected and told he is ripping off customers. He of course did not say this to me but said this to my daughter which made her feel confronted and uncomfortable. I will be sure to let everyone I know how false their coupons are and they will be up charged if they go to Midas. read more

The guys are friendly enough and the prices are reasonable for a tire rotation. I made an appointment first thing in the morning and my car was not brought in until 15 minutes after appointment time. I waited for an hour to get the complete service done, which initially was reported to take 20 minutes. read more

I went in because I had a issue with window not going down. I asked how much they quote me a diagnostic fee of $115 they then claimed I needed a new switch they quote me $370.00 for the part and then proceeded to say the fix would cost $600 That part is $10 online they then proceed to tell me that the there will be labor fee to put it back together they never mentioned that either and tried to get me to agree to costly repair I said no put it back together. When I got back into car the window works fine if the switch was bad it would not still be working. Had to go back they missed part of the door panel was missing. Workers failed to say I am sorry they couldn't find it said oh mechanic is gone for day we will call you they didn't had to call them again they asked I bring it back so they can look in car missing part then if not there would order and bring car back again. I said no yes they ordered the part but really if they would have fixed it right in the first place it would have never been nessacary to begin with 3 extra trips for there mistake stay away. read more

I definitely recommend this Midas location for service to your vehicle. I stopped here last year because I was getting a raw deal from another Midas dealer in Crystal Lake who installed a muffler a year earlier that went bad and was under warranty. Seems the "Crystal Lake" Midas dealer welded all the parts together so that when your muffler goes bad you need to replace SEVERAL PARTS that aren't bad at all. I went to the McHenry Midas and asked for a price (not using the warranty) to replace what I needed. Guess what, he was CHEAPER than the CL Midas that offered the warranty replacement! Don't get scammed by a muffler outfit no matter who they are. Never let them "Weld" together your exhaust system. It will cost you in the end when your muffler prematurely leaks and they have to replace items not needed. On my second visit to McHenry Midas, Larry had been very accommodating even when he's swamped. I had two vehicles that needed exhaust system repairs, we scheduled an appt for the next morning and he was ready for me at the time of appt. Our mechanic Steve was outstanding. He looked over the exhaust system and gave me an estimate for the two vehicles. On the first one he found another exhaust leak and fixed that without charging me saving me big $$$. On the second car, he fit together what I needed and did an excellent job at that also. What I really like about McHenry Midas, Larry & Steve is that they NEVER tried to Up-Sell services to me. I hate it when auto mechanics come running over to you with a dipstick in hand advising me that I need a Transmission Fluid change or my Brake fluid looks dirty or YOU NEED BALL JOINTS REALLY REALLY BAD! I am a firefighter and as you know we like to take care of our cars. I trust Larry and Steve with all my cars and will continue to bring them to McHenry even though its 15 miles from my home. Hassle free and no up-selling = a great experience. Yeah, I know Midas charges are pretty much set as a franchise but I'll take EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE over convenient location anytime. read more

I will not only recommend Midas, I will boast about how they performed a miracle! I thought I would need a very expensive heater coil repair job, but they looked at my problem, recommended a radiator flush, and voila! My heat was working again, without tearing my car apart! I think any other station may have gone ahead with the costly repair job, but Midas was honest and knew exactly where the problem stemmed from! I am so grateful! I left in tears of gratitude! On 7/10/2017 I took my 2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser to Midas because the air conditioner was not producing any cold air. They diagnosed the car and provided a written estimate indicating that there were no leaks and that all that was needed was a refill of refrigerant for $118.90. I authorized the refill and they did it. The car made cold air for several hours then stopped. When I brought the car back to Midas on 7/15/2017, they said the air conditioner was now leaking and needs several parts, and labor for a grand total of $1047.08. Efforts to get a refund for my $118.90 failed. This series of events is wrong on several levels. First of all my understanding is that it is not legal to refill a motor vehicle air conditioning system with leaks. Second if I had been told in the first place that the vehicle needed a $1000+ repair, I would never have gone along with any work as the vehicle is over 15 years and probably not worth $1000. Third, I feel that Midas took advantage of the fact that I have little knowledge of auto repairs and reduced ability to communicate in English, to cheat me out of the $118.90. read more
