I had a simple oil leak coming from the valve cover (it was torqued down incorrectly from the dealership and they used the wrong gasket sealant) and from the plastic oil pan on my 2015 Volkswagen GTI. The Firestone Conplete Auto Care in Round Lake Beach had been my goto place for maintenance and auto repairs since 2010 and for my parents since 2005. They had good quality and reliable service for a fair price. They were a service provider I trusted. If three repeated return trips, they didn't torque down valve covet and couldn't find why the leak was persistent and insisted that the leak was coming from the oil sensor on the oil pan. I agreed to having the sensor replaced and took the car home, only to find a large puddle of fresh, clean oil on my garage floor. I took the car back and they said it must be coming from the oil pan, since plastic pans have been a known source of oil leaks. Talking it over with one of the managers, we decided that a metal replacement oil pan should solve the problem once and for all. The repair was completed that day and I took the car home. The next morning an even larger oil puddle was found under my car. Frustrated, I took my vehicle to a much more expensive Eruopean car specialist. They did what the technicians at Firestone failed to do: Find the source of the leak. You pour fluorescent dye in the oil. Run the vehicle for a few minutes. Take a black light and look where the oil is escaping from. They found the head gasket / valve cover issue and the oil pan were not properly sealed. On top of that, Firestone had not replaced the plastic oil pan with a metal one! I had this garage replace the plastic pan with a metal pan (since the engines are the same, the Mk 8 GTI metal oil pan will fit on a Mk 7. There are also aftermarket metal pans available from a variety of vendors.). They torqued and sealed everything down properly and I paid foe the service, glad that the problem was finally resolved, but disappointed that Firestone had failed miserably. I went to confront the Firestone store manager (after he was unavailable for a few days), and showed him the service bill that the other garage did and asked why they replaced the plastic oil pan with another plastic one after we both decided that a metal one would be a better solution. He told me that Volkswagen did not make a metal oil pan and that plastic ones were the only available oil pans for my car. That was a flat out lie that could easily be fact checked on any smart phone. I as I still had the website for ECS Tuning screenshot on my phone, I showed it to him with at least three different aftermarket, metal oil pans for the Volkswagen EA888 2.0 TDI engine. I then showed him another website for UroTuning for another alternate metal oil pan. He eventually reimbursed for the work on the oil pan, refunded the part. I told him that he didn't have to refund the oil sensor or the labor for that as that was my fault for not doing my due diligence in overseeing their work. I also expressed by disappointment and frustration with their poor service. But, I held back. I was angry and felt betrayed for being lied to. I understand that they had young, inexperienced technicians, but you don't cover for their mistakes by lying to your customers, especially loyal ones that have been returning for over 15 years. While we kept the conversation polite and professional, I was seething beneath it all. Not because of the service failure, although that was frustrating. That could be forgiven by resolving the car problem and owning up to their shortcomings. Lying straight to my face... that was disrespectful. I'm no automotive genius. But, I know a few things about cars and I conduct myself accordingly. I drive an enthusiast's car with some light modifications. I enjoy talking about car performance and driving. That should have been evident. Don't tell me what part isn't available for my car and expect me to just blindly accept that as truth. That was never going to be a winning strategy. If I can't trust a service shop to be honest with me with major repairs, how could I trust them with simple items like brakes, tires, or oil changes, let alone more serious things like diagnostics? Your experience with Round Lake Beach Firestone Auto Care may differ, but I wouldn't take any vehicle that I cared about there or reward them with my business. Violated trust cannot be easily regained and I just don't trust them anymore. read more

Service is okay. We brought about car for brake pads and it was included with our warranty. Unfortunately 3rd party is involved whatever it is they couldn't be able to do their part, but they found a nail on one of the tire and charged us $60 + and that I now fixing it after few months. Hoping that I don't have to pay more than what my fiancé paid them. So there for quality is poor & value. Very disappointing. read more

It was ok but they removed my sticker on my windshield that told me when I needed to get my front breaks done from Napa. I am really not happy about that. Take our cars here regularly for maintenance and oil changes. They always take the time to explain issues and prices are very reasonable. I recently slammed my seatbelt in the door and had issues with my door ajar warning sensor. Store manager Justin Vieth was phenomenal and able to come up with an easy fix of and had me out the door in no time. This is one of the few places where I never feel like I'm getting played and trust the mechanics. read more

I opted to go to this place last month to install 4 new tires on my SUV since it's close to my house and this was my first time here. A week before, my rear right tire had blown, so I had to replace it with my spare tire and kept the blown tire in the spare tire compartment. At the shop, I told them to put the spare tire back to its compartment after the 4 new tires were installed. Sent the car early at 10am but I was told to pick it up only at about 5pm. Since I had another appointment, I could only pick it up the next day. However to my surprise, they only installed 3 new tires instead of 4. The spare tire was still on the rear right side and the blown tire was still in the spare tire compartment. I immediately complained and they eventually fixed the whole problem after another hour of waiting at the shop. The question is, why did they install only 3 tires when I was charged for 4 new tires? Were they trying to scam me? It wasn't professional at all considering they are a national brand franchise. This incident has left a bad impression on me since I was a first time customer. They only offered a free oil change as a compensation but I requested a free tire alignment instead, which they didn't end up offering. A week later, I did receive an online survey based on my experience. I wrote the same complain as what I have written here and they promised someone will contact me to resolve the issue. However nobody tried to contact me after the survey, which made me feel that the survey was nothing but an automated one that might have gone to their trash folder instead. I don't trust this place anymore and I don't plan to go back there in future. read more

Service writer is a scammer beware! Car came up with an engine light. Took it to my buddies code reader and it read P0449 evap solenoid. Only code that came up. Girlfriend took it here and her estimate was $2600! Tried to get us to pay double for part price(evap solenoid) replace the heater core, and they said 2 codes popped up the second being we need to replace the intake manifold! I told her to grab the car we're going somewhere else. Comes to find out solenoid was only $40 not $80 and the second code never popped up! As far as the heater core, we just needed a new thermostat which solved the issue. So in total we paid $653 with a job well done!!! They will up sell for no reason and possibly take advantage of you are a woman caller! read more

We blew out a tire on a Saturday night and needed it fixed on Sunday. I tried a few tire places before Firestone, but no one had the size tire we needed. I called Firestone to make sure they had the tire and Dan helped me. Right away, he said he didn't have the tire in, but he would do some research to find one. He called me back shortly and they found one! He was very professional and up-front that they were very busy that day, but I could drop my car off and they would work on it as soon as they could. I had no problem with that. I dropped my car off at 11:00 and they called me at 2pm to say that they were finished! I was impressed. Plus, the cost to replace the tire was well under what we were budgeting. Dan and his crew were excellent and they definitely saved the day! read more

The customer service was outstanding. I loved the front staff person, Nina (I think that was her name). She went over everything I wanted done throughly and then some. But they were all super nice. The mechanics got everything done (and I had a LOT I needed done on my poor neglected baby) so quickly. Even with adding new brakes to the already extensive order. They did nothing that was unnecessary. I already knew from the noises my rotors were making that I might need new breaks. Feels like a new car with how well she's running now. And she'd been running a bit rough with my neglect due to lack of funds. I was a bit behind on services needing to be done. They were kind enough to tell me they checked my cabin filter however I have no idea why since it has nothing to do with getting new tires. Beyond pissed right now. Two weeks ago I had the brakes done. I have been here before and was very happy with the service. Yesterday, this odd popping/banging noise started. Today, it was worse. I thought maybe it was tire related. Stopped at Waukegan Tire in Waukegan and they found that the wheel was about to fall off! The lug nuts - only two were holding it on and they were so loose the wheel was barely hanging on. Further inspection - all of the wheels were loose and other lugs were missing!!!! The tire pressure was very low in all tires and Firestone said they checked that. Are they trying to kill me? I could have been in a terrible accident! One time went in for a tire patch & asked for rotation on all tires, patch fixed, no rotation done. Just bought 2 new tires & asked for balance & rotation on older tires, nope did not happen, just slapped on two new tires & sent my on my way. Seems to be the only place in the area I can get an alignment, and I actually leave with a straight car. Don't know why most locations can't do that, but I do know that this place can. This place will charge to diagnose problems. A way of roping you in. There are many shops in the immediate area that will gladly diagnose for you at no charge. Do your homework. This includes shops that specialize in auto repair as opposed to tire replacement. Do you want mechanical problems fixed by a mechanic or by a tire changer? read more

I have been going to the Firestone Complete Auto Care for some time. They have worked on both of my cars. this particular situation could have turned into a very bad review. Mark, the manager did what it took to make the situation right. I was having problems with my front end making noise. They did the logical things, struts, and such. When it was still making noise after an extensive amount of work, they kept the vehicle for 2 days and more or less rebuilt my front end at their expense. I always call around to shop pricing and find this shop to be competitive. When dealing with auto repair shops it is difficult to find someone to trust. especially when you are dealing with an unknown, like auto repair. Mark has earned my trust many times over. read more

We have been coming here for about a year now and to date our experience has been very positive. The front service managers are outstanding and offer up a range of options / suggestions. In some cases, you can even get them to fiddle with the prices. The mechanic work has also worked out well... else we would not have been repeat customers. I had an emergency early this morning. My back tire was leaking really bad. I had a baby and a two year old in the car with me. I knew that my tire was going to be flat in like 10 minutes (Give or take). Most of the tire places were closed and so I stopped at PepBoys real quick to see if they could get me in for a new tire. The man at the counter said that there were no openings if I didn't have a scheduled appointment. He was very rude for no reason ( I actually almost cried because of my situation and how he spoke to me). When I walked out of PepBoys I saw a Firestone auto care open across the street. I called them really quick to see if they could fit me in. I told them my situation really quick and they told me to come right away. By the time I crossed the street and got to them my tire was as flat as a pancake. The guys there were super busy, but yet still found the time to help me. They had me in and out of there in a matter of 2 hours. The entire time that we were in the waiting room I could see how busy they were but they were so courteous and helpful to every single person that they talked to. I want to personally thank Eddie Garcia and Peter Guzio, the two men that help me and my children. You guys were so helpfu and you kept us from being stranded on the side of the road in zero degree weather. Thank you so much for being helpful and having such great customer service. Now I was told my breaks would be done by 1 p.m. at 215 they tell me they got the wrong pads and we're waiting for new ones. The mechanics in this store have exceeded my expectations every single time I've walked into the door. I used to bring my old Chrysler Sebring in, and it had a few significant issues with it, but I told them I wanted to run it into the ground because the repairs were more cost than the car's worth, and they remembered that and never pressured me to buy services that I didn't want! This is the BEST group of mechanics, because they inform you and show you the issues, but they don't pressure you to purchase things. They tell you what's wrong and the likelihood of failure and potential long-term ramifications. I trust them completely because they have never tried to sell me unnecessary things; I feel like they genuinely want what's best for me, and they want their customers safe! I trust Eric's opinion so much, that I actually brought a vehicle in for them to look at before I purchased it to get his opinion on whether or not it was a good purchase! He told me it was a great car, but the wear on the tires was a little bit uneven and I should have them check the alignment. So, I took the vehicle in and had the dealership fix it before I purchased the car! He also mentioned that there were snow tires on the vehicle and I can use that as leverage for negotiating a better purchase price! I'm a young single female, so I always feel like I'm talking to a big brother when I'm in there! It's a sense of security knowing that someone is looking out for your best interest. If you give them the opportunity to show you their skills and their "shirt of their back" attitude, they will earn your respect and loyalty. They definitely have mine! I have not had good experiences here in the past, BUT, I thought I would give them another shot. Well they have not failed in disappointing me. I told them that I wanted new tires and that was all today, no time for anything else. I prepaid them to be sure of the total amount yet they proceeded to try and upsell me, going under my hood to try to find more stuff to sell me. I can't trust people who start messing around with things that I didn't give them permission to touch. If they wanted to inspect the car further, ASK!! Would you like us to look the car over for you? BEFORE YOU START TO MESS WITH STUFF. There better not be anything suddenly wrong with my car now. I WILL NEVER RETURN TO THIS PLACE. One last note. I had a flat tire right passager side. I had an for 1:30 at NTB tires across the street and they said couldn't touch or fix it had to replace the tire. So I took a chance and called Firestone which was right across the street from NTB. Called and spoke to Carlos and told him my situation and he said come here I'll look at it. So I drove across the street and walked in and told Carlos my situation and he walked out and looked at it and said we will look to see if we can fix it but we will call either way. EEK! Prices are outrageous! I needed a blower motor and blower motor resistor because my A/C and Heat vents only worked on #4 setting. $380 is what they quoted me and I knew that was expensive since I've had friends have the same thing done for $200-250. I ended up going elsewhere and having it done for $220.00. On the same day, they flushed and inspected my radiator, it leaks 6 months later and all he could say was "eh...happens sometimes." I suspect the inspection wasn't done very well... Just my thoughts, think twice about going here for service. read more

My family's been going here for oil changes for a while and they've been fine. Yesterday my 17 year old daughter brought her car in for an oil change and while she was there they did a check on her battery and told her it needed to be replaced. The receipt reads "OE CCA 550, MEASURED 385 CCA, RATED 550 CCA, REPLACE BATTERY." The car is a 2014 Hyundai Accent, she knew the battery shouldn't be failing. When she questioned mike, she was told that "even though the car is a 2014, it probably shipped in 2013 and is therefore 3 years old and most people prefer to replace their battery about once every three years." When she told me this, the first thing I did was call the store and ask for help in deciphering the date sticker on the battery. I was told that they "didn't know how to read the code because all they deal with are interstate batteries." Now I'll admit I don't know much about batteries but I do know this is a required, standardized code common to all batteries, not just a particular brand and I was just told they couldn't read that code? Definitely threw a red flag up. Oh, and according to the sticker, the battery was shipped from the factory with the car in June of 2014 (F/45), so it isn't even 2 years old yet. I had my daughter bring the car into 2 separate places to have it tested today. What we found out is even more concerning: That CCA code of 550 they had on the receipt....wrong. While some cars have the 550 CCA battery, hers does not. THE FIRST THING ON THE YELLOW BATTERY STICKER SAYS 410 CCA. Since the recommendation of a new battery is based on the difference between the RATED CCA and the MEASURED CCA, the determination to the customer to change the battery is severely off if the wrong RATED CCA is used. So, with a RATED CCA of 410 and a MEASURED CCA of 385, her battery is working fine and there's no reason to replace it. Also, both of the other places showed a MEASURED reading of 409 CCA, not 385 as Firestone had read. If this is how they normally test and recommend services to their customers, does that mean that any car without a 'standardized' CCA is told they need to replace their batteries? According to what just happened to us, the answer is Yes. read more

I thought I needed brakes took it to the Firestone in Round Lake for a free brake inspection they told me my brakes were okay my rotors were getting a little worn and that is why my brake pedal was going down but then I didn't need any service. This is the first time I have ever gone to a business that didn't try to sell me something else the manager Eric D Pasquale and the mechanic r j we're great I would highly recommend them and will definitely go back read more

The front desk guys are always nice, the work is done well & they have (Neil for one) gone above & beyond more than once. Prices are ok with coupons, location is good, customer service is excellent. EDIT: 9/15: was told we needed new rotors for our SUV. Asked them to keep the old rotors for me. I took a look at the "old" rotors when I picked them up & they looked pretty good. So I took them to my dealership & had them measured. They had enough metal left on them to qualify as almost new! I went back - showed the rotors & the paperwork from my dealership to the manager - they refunded my money. BE WARNED, they will tell you you need services not needed. I will not be back. read more

AND THEY WERE 100% aware of the work i needed done and they neglected to tell me! instead, they called me and told me my car was ready for pick up... my time was wasted on the day i make the most money at work! Had my first and last visit to a Firestone a couple days ago. I made an appointment for my car online to get an oil change done. I waited 2 hours to have absolutely nothing done to my car. After sitting and waiting for an hour and 15 minutes, they tell me they can't do my oil change because the drain plug is on too tight. I was very frustrated that it took them so long to communicate that to me and made me suspicious of what exactly they were doing to my car. I decided after the weekend to bring it into Jiffy Lube to have the oil change done. Within 5 minutes of me being there, the guy tells me he is unable to do my oil change because the plug is completely stripped. I've used jiffy lube in the past 3 years and have never had a problem with them. I use Firestone ONE time and they screw up my car. I called their corporate office the day of my visit and was told I'd receive a call from store manager "Dennis" and to give him 48 hours to call me back. Would it surprise you all to find out I didn't ever get a call back? I wouldn't call back a customer either if I damaged their car. I don't know if all Firestone's are like this, but this store is obviously filled with some seriously inept mechanics. Now I have to bring my car into the dealer to be repaired. I was extremely impressed by his can do attitude and going out of his way to accommodate customer needs and making sure that customer is satisfied with the repairs. I've been going to this store for past 12 years for all my automotive maintenance and repairs needs for my 3 cars and always found the whole team at this Firestone location extremely helpful & cooperative! Firestone was considerably more expensive but they price matched NTB, I went with them since the gentleman giving me the estimate was very friendly and patient. Updating my review because I feel it is necessary and I have more to add after going elsewhere and finding out truly how bad this place is. People need to be warned because I wish I was before I spent over $600 on them just screwing my car up. This place doesn't even deserve 1 star. IT IS A SCAM! We brought our car in end of January for an oil change and they told us we needed new front brakes, so we did it. They charged us $400! Within a week we hear constant squeaking which continued to get worse and worse. We brought it back less than 2 months later. Instead of being honest with us telling us they didn't give two craps when they worked on our brakes, they decided to not fix their mistakes and instead try to scam us more and tell us our calipers were bad and likely causing the squeaking. ($550 to fix) and we also needed new struts! (Which they wanted a ridiculous amount of money to fix) GOOD JOKE. We decided to get a second opinion because we knew they were scamming us at this point. We brought it to another shop and they told us our calipers were fine! and that they likely used poor brake pads and did not grease properly. We held off on them redoing for a bit and the squeaking just got worse. So, today we brought it back. They redid the brakes for us for less than HALF the price, didn't use crappy brake pads and told us they did not grease at all on our initial job and therefore all our bolts had frozen up! We paid $400 for this service at this shop and could have had both our front and back brakes done PROPERLY and well at this other shop who fixed the front for us. Instead we paid $400 for them to just screw up our front brakes worse than before they did anything to them. We also bought the lifetime alignment which is also a scam, first off our alignment still IS AWFUL, it is like they hardly did anything. And you can only use the lifetime warranty at corporate shops which wasn't told to us as they said ANY firestone, bridgestone etc. So, who knows if we will ever even be able to use our lifetime alignment again because we certainly won't ever return to this Round Lake shop again. It is probably just another almost $200 they scammed us out of with absolutely nothing in return to us as the customer. They obviously don't know how to value their customers here or care about them at all! STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!!!!!! They will steal your money and leave your car in way worse condition than before they touched it. read more
