Let me say that i have had great service in the past years. This time was different. I wanted a simple brake job, and was willing to pay for pads and rotors, if needed. The quote from David included calipers and cleaning lines for an additional $500. Plus they inspected my brand new battery as "end of life". They were nice enough to 'show' me what was wrong with my brakes/calipers. The tech Josh came over and said the fronts would not slide. I grabbed the caliper and was able to slide it myself. Silence. I said just do the pads and rotors. They refused without the calipers. I told them to put the tires back on. I drove to Firestone across the street and the calipers were fine. My son bought 4 new tires from Pep Boys a few months ago (along with other work costing over $1,000. He had a flat tire on 94. We assumed there was some type of warranty, or they would at least look at the tire and see what the problem was. They refused to even check it out. Dropped off our car for an oil change and was called back that it could not be done because the "master technician" was not in even though we had called earlier to see if it could be done. Tried to ask questions about why and what the issue was because we have been coming to this location for years. And the lady hung up on us! She was very rude from the start, never had an issue with any of the guys who usually take care of us. Took it next door to Firestone where they took care of us and had no issue, but they did mention they had a lot of customers coming in that weren't being taking care of at pepboys and complaining about the poor service from the lady. read more

Made an appointment to service our vehicle and we walked in. We were greeted very rudely as well as barely acknowledged. When we said we had an appointment she swore under her breath and couldn't stop rolling her eyes. Did not feel welcome at all whatsoever and after my boyfriend has been coming here for years , it caught us extremely off guard because the service used to be alot better. I took my car in for tires and had the oil changed. Unfortunately the oil plug was forced in crooked and the next time I had to have n oil change it cost me $200 to fix the plug at another location plus three hours of labor. The plug should not have been forced to thread and this is a very unnecessary repair. Why did I not go back? Lack of confidence in a technician who would have made this very basic costly mistake. I did call Pepboys and asked if they would be willing to help. Because it had been 11 months they chose to do nothing and say it was not their problem. Life happens , sometimes you do not drive many miles and as such you do not think or need to change oils but that was not acknowledge. It's unfortunate as if only 3 months would have passed it appeared they would have been willing to possibly help. But it was more time and I can positively say it was their oil change. read more

If you want to be over-charged with added bs fees for refurbished parts they don't disclose only for them to not work after you pay and leave only to have to come back to be told you can wait another week to have a working used part put in after already waiting 5 days longer then you we're told in the first place for them to install the broken used part- then well, these are your guys! --We are out $1,400 to them as our bank denied a dispute, due to their wording on their estimates. Which happens to be missing the actual amounts/charges which they instead tell you over the phone. I'm sure it's more convenient when they over-charge you after the work is done. Every time I go there they try to sell me more service than what is required. Even if it is not required they suggest it huge time and don't give you lower cost options. The work they do is ok but had my brakes done the and rotors changed. A year and half later the one caliper stuck and they stated both sides needed new calipers, rotors and brakes. Even though one side had little wear. Never returning here again and never going to another PepBoys. read more

I would recommend pep boys over and over again. The guy who helped me upfront was very nice and beyond helpful. He saved me over $500. I think his name started with an R. I had been to Maevis tire because my one tire had what I thought was a slow leak. They told me I needed to replace all four tires and all my tires had nails in them. Wasn't true....Scammers. The tire manufacturer researched and found this PEP BOYS location had some in stock. Service Manager Bryan went above and beyond helping me during this transaction. It took them 3 1/2 hours ( while I waited on a plastic chair) for them to diagnose my electrical system. After 3 hours they finally determined I needed a new battery. If I could give a half star rating, I would. I came in with a list of OEM part numbers to try to help the technician cross reference what was needed for my car. I had come in a couple nights before and spoken with Bryan, who was very nice, and he told me that he didn't know what the numbers were for the parts. I figured that a cross reference would be helpful. Fast forward to this morning. I came in the door and said hello to Leo. He didn't seem very friendly, and as soon as I showed him the list, instead of saying no thank you I don't need that, he says "this means nothing to me". I was trying to be helpful, and instead of acknowledging that, he felt that I was being rude to him. Made an appointment online. Drove 30 minutes one way to get there. To hear we don't have an oil filter for your truck. My appointment was at noon. They had hours to check their inventory as I made an appointment. The young man behind the counter had zero customer service skills. With the price of gas a 30 minute ride is super costly I would never step foot in this store again. Go to the dealer you might pay a little more but you get what you pay for. I had some poor service done at the place I purchased my car. They did not do a proper tire plug/patch at the dealer and I was quoted that I needed a new tire when I only had 13,000 miles on the vehicle. I brought my car into pep boys expecting to have to buy one or two tires but they brought my car back and took another look and realized the patch job was the issue. Instead of taking me for a ride and charging me 500 +bucks for new tires, they performed the plug and patch and didn't even charge me for it. Restored in me that we do have some good people out there, and will take the time to do the job right. I will definitely be purchasing new tires from here when the time comes. Pep Boys in Round Lake Beach does not do all the work they state on the invoice. The Manager agreed and stated that is the way all their invoices are. I spoke to corporate and they agreed and said it may be something they need to change. This practice put my family in a very dangerous situation on a recent vacation. I went to this location today (9/7) to get an oil change, and had the following experience. I was sitting in the waiting area, and one of the employees came out from the shop and asked this elderly man and if either of us were Keith, another customer. I only partially heard him ask this, as I was checking my emails. I realized the employee had asked something, so I looked up. The employee then asked me directly if I was Keith. I'm not. I'm a very clearly a woman. I have long blonde hair, obviously feminine body part, had on make-up, a pink camo hat, and had a purse. I answered, and said that I was not and that my name was Morgan. Instead of apologizing, he looked around sheepishly, said "okay", and walked away. The elderly gentleman sitting in the waiting area said it's very clear I'm not a "Keith" and ended up apologizing for the employee, since he just walked away. I appreciate that he did it, but it was not his responsibility. Eventually, I went to service desk and asked if I could speak to a manager. The man I asked--I believe his name was Guy-- told me that there wasn't currently one available, so I told him what happened. He LAUGHED and said that "people ARE freaking out about the whole transgender thing nowadays". I don't care what y'all think about trans people, but if someone presents as a woman you treat them as such. The fact that his immediate response was defensive and snarky is incredibly unprofessional. The fact that I had to explain this to a man probably twenty years my senior, is unacceptable. I eventually got him to say he'd talk to the staff, but he still didn't apologize. All in all, I found the staff to be rude and unprofessional. The customer service was horrible. Will never come back Here. I called yesterday because i needed my head bulb changed. Called to get a price check because my dealership did not have any appointments until next week and i did not want to be driving around with one light. The guy told me over the phone ask me what type and year of my car and he told be the price would be $38 bucks. Get up here today and they guy tells me 180 because they have to take the bumper off. I tell him that there is a door to get to the light he then tells me $85. If i did not need this to be done i would have walked right out. BUYER BEWARE!!! We have went to this location for over 15 years. It has since been converted to just a mechanic shop. I had my 19 year old daughter go by herself to get an oil change. The techs told her she was running on NO OIL and her car engine was in serious risk and needed to do some diagnostics. I am glad she called me. I told her not to and to go buy a QT of oil from O'Reileys and come home. Pepboys said they will add a QT of oil to get her to where she needs and they suggested her not to leave so they can run diagnostics. She left without getting the full oil change. She ran over to O'Reillys and the guy at the counter has the same car and said he would go out and look it over. He pulled up the dipstick and it was 1 QT over the limit. Long story short, I would stay clear from this location as they are clearly scamming people. It is pretty sad that they would try to take advantage of a young girl. read more

I have to start from the beginning, a few months ago my car died out on 59 and I had it towed to I believe the Streamwood pep boys but once there my car started and showed no codes. Paid $25 for tow and was on my way. Last Thursday same issue, I died out on the 94 within 10 miles of the Arlington Heights store and had my car towed there. Same as before, the car is running and again showing no codes. They did some more troubleshooting and after replacing the maf sensor and having the throttle body and fuel system flushed for over $550 I was on my way. Friday morning, the next day I'm dead on the side of the road AGAIN. Called the Arlington heights store and they arranged to have my car towed to the round lake beach store due it proximity and these guys at the Round Lake Store went the extra yards and performed all the diagnostics, replaced the maf sensor, again, replaced the egr valve and cleaned the tuning, cleaned the throttle body tube assembly as well as another throttle body, injection and fuel system clean ALL AT NO CHARGE!!!! INCLUDING THE TOW. I just got the car back today and so far running well. Tomorrow morning, Monday, I'll be back on the road again and time will tell if all is well but what the Round Lake Store did I can't say enough positive things for customer care and support like that. Made an appointment for 1pm for an oil change and free tire rotation. The guy on the phone stated it would take an hour.... I arrived and handed in my keys... Guy stated it would take 1.5 hours...at 230pm i went to pick up car and it was not started.. Guy stated he was going to bring in car now.... 25 minutes later picked up car and they did not rotate the dam tires... here we are over 2 hours and still waiting.... Got two new tires at pep boys round lake with an alignment about 2 weeks ago, took my car for an oil change at my dealership last week and they told me I needed an alignment. Went back to pep boys with my receipt and paper from dealership showing I needed an alignment. Was told I would be next to get my realignment, comes back and says there's 3 cars ahead of me. Went in to have my two rear brake calipers replaced. I was told it would be about an hour. I didn't receive a call about my car so I called them THREE hours later. They then proceeded to give me a quote of $500. The parts only cost 100 together. This place is a joke, 400$ for labor to replace just two calipers and nothing else. I will never go back here. I found a place just down the street that did the same work for only 200$. PEP BOYS IS A GIANT RIPOFF!! Do not go here. Go somewhere else to get your car repaired. Worst customer service ever. Called to get a tire fixed and was told to bring it in. When I arrived within the hour, I was told that they could not look at my car at all since they were busy. I've been there when busy which is why I called ahead. There were only 2 people in the store and I was turned away even after calling ahead with no recourse. This was at 5pm not closing. I will never buy Pep boys tires again and Never go back to this Round Lake store. Don't do it. There are other places to get tires than to deal with this place. Excellent customer service. Highly recommend. There is a new service manager there, Kevin, and he was extremely helpful when I was in a really tough spot. Just came back from a funeral in California and my car wouldn't start. Called my local Toyota dealer figuring since I had a warranty they could help me. BIG MISTAKE! After getting the run around several times over the phone, they explained to me I needed my spark plugs replaced, oil change, transmission flushed, and brakes. I was so pissed about the crappy customer service and the fact nothing they found was under warranty so now I had to pay for the tow as well, they wanted $900, I complained and got my car out of their. That's when I met Kevin at Pep Boys. From the beginning he was helpful and very knowledgable. He offered to look at my car. When they did, they said my spark plugs were fine and didn't recommend any extra services, only an oil change for $30. He felt bad what happened with Toyota so he didn't charge me a diagnostic fee. I will always take my car to Pep Boys now. I recommend getting second opinions with car service, and if you do, go see the guys Pep Boys in Round Lake Beach. read more

I wanted something very simple done. I wanted the light bulbs changed in my two front headlights. I looked this up on the internet and it looked straightforward but I decided to let them have the work if they could do it at a decent price. The worker told me it would be $66 PER LIGHT BULB because they would have to "remove part of the bumper" to do the job. I watched the bulb replaced on YouTube with three bolts and it has nothing to do with the bumper. I guess they figure if you're stupid enough you'll pay anything.
