First off.... I've been offing food from here for about 8 years now and I have always recommended this restaurant to all of my friends who are looking for quick tasty consistent Chinese food. Staff is always nice and always give customers smiles welcoming them into their establishment. I made a mistake by ordering from the Tokyo Express in Mt. pleasant and when I showed up at the James Island Tokyo Express on James Island right when they were closing for the night and realized the mistake I made the gentleman who was now there by his self took my order and cut on the fryers and cooked all the food I had ordered. He could have easily sent me on my way but he stayed late and cooked for me. I work in food and beg and no how annoying that can be. It is literally so bad. chicken and broccoli fried rice is uncle Ben's microwave rice and microwave broccoli.

Only 10 minutes from call-in to pick up at lunch time. Kitchen looked clean from the cash register counter. Not a long wait to pay/pick up at register, I didn't have to cook, and it is not absurdly expensive (though $16 for a single lunch entree is not inexpensive but I didn't have to cook it and then have to listen to my husband complain about my cooking so F it). read more

Sesame seed presentation on point!!! Besides the heavy hand of the seed, the dish was cooked very well and sauce was great. I also ordered a pork egg roll also very tasty as the outside was very crisp. The business is very well equipped to handled take out during Covid-19 you will not even touch their hand. This is a really nice little place located over by Publix on Harborview and Folly roads. I do like the Teriyaki beef. Well made and loaded with rice and vegetables. Priced very good on an old guys budget. They are quick to get your food out. there are a few tables inside but they dont serve you. Its all take out. Now i have only had a chicken dish once, it was good but I'm a red meat guy. Remember their menu is very extensive so my review is for what i like to eat. Solid takeout Chinese food. We had General Tso's, house lo mein, crab rangoons and hot & sour soup. The General Tso's seemed like quality chicken compared to other takeout Chinese places and it was crispy and hot. The house lo mein was tasty and had a lot of shrimp and other meats. Their crab rangoons are my favorite of the few James Island Chinese restaurants. The hot and sour soup was decent too but lacked my preferred spice. Good food, great service, and a fair price. What more can you ask for. Not a high end Asian food but very good.

This is great fast Japanese food. The teriyaki chicken is my favorite but if you don't eat mushrooms, make sure to tell them. Staff are always quick and friendly. Conveniently located in the Merchant's Village Shopping Centre at the corner of Harbor view and Folly Roads. Take it out or there are a few tables inside if you want, but they don't serve you. Nice interior (I had take out) but weak flavor. I had the veggie hibachi and shared with my husband. I ate the white sauce with it and it tasted ok. My husband doesn't eat white sauce so his portion tasted really bland he said. For the price $9 and change the portion was good. Just ok - probably won't eat there again. read more

For some reason, this is my gparents favorite place to get quick Chinese. While it's not bad, it's nothing to travel out of your way for. I've had the Sha Cha Chicken and the Curry Chicken, most recently. I wasn't sure what Sha Cha Chicken was, but I wanted to try something new. While it was decent, I don't think it was what was described on some food websites. The Curry Chicken was ok, lots of chicken and veggies mixed in, but could have used a little stronger Curry. Fried rice tasted like brown food coloring instead of flavor- veggies without seasoning just cooked and put on top. We called ahead of time to order hibachi shrimp and a hibachi steak and chicken. We paid upon arrival and dat down to wait for it. And we waited and waited and waited. Finally my boyfriend got up to ask about our food, and after insisting we had already paid for our food, she gave us our bag. Turns out our bag had been sitting there for 15 minutes. We get home and eat our food and it was just so disappointing. The shrimp was powdery. Yes powdery, that's the only word I can use to describe it. Obviously overcooked and freezer burned. There was no sauce and the shrimp was a sad imitation of Uncle Ben's rice. My boyfriend's steak and chicken was bland and over sauced. Finally the spring roll was burned to death. Inside and out. It can be hit-and-miss depending on which dishes you order, but Tokyo Express is definitely the best Chinese take-out restaurant on James Island. The Singapore Rice Noodles are great (they might not be on the menu, so special order them), as are the dumplings, General Tso's, and Hibachi dishes. Don't expect five-star cuisine (it IS Chinese take-out, after all), but here's a solid bet for a quick meal after work on a weeknight. read more

Arguably the best Chinese food west of the Ashley River - I've tried a few others. I have eaten 3 or 4 different dishes here (including wonton soup, chicken and broccoli, and steamed dumplings), and have never been disappointed. Pricing is very reasonable and there is rarely a wait. read more
