Painting is expensive, intrusive, stressful and you have to live with the results for years; so you want to get it right the first time. This 5 star review could have been a 2 star review but because of Andrew and his great team, I would have given him a 6 star if available. In my 20's I was a certified journeyman painter and after 4 years I decided it was not what I wanted to do. Painting is hard and tedious work, but as a result, I know what to look for when hiring a paint contractor. Even with that, things can go wrong. Some painters will paint over termite infected wood because they are not skilled in carpentry, some will water down paint to save on material, some will tell you that they don't need to prime because the paint has built in primer, or that spraying horizontally and then vertically is the same as applying 2 coats of paint. Every can of paint will tell you to wait 1 to 2 hours before applying the second coat of paint. If you know the basics to look for, it can help getting a satisfactory job. First off, Andrew himself is not the painter, he is more of the CFO and COO combined. If you have a major concern he is the man to talk to. He is a calm, soft spoken and sensible person. Basically he is a professional and problem solver. The team that painted my home was: 1. Mr. Kim; he is very skilled in his profession. He is the lead painter and can do it all. He is very patient, attentive to detail and listens to any job site concerns. He works tirelessly and non-stop. His English is limited, but he understands well and knows his trade. 2. Ulysses; he is Mr. Kim's protégé. He primarily did the spraying. They have worked together for 20 years according to Ulysses. He too is a non -stop worker. He was my go to man when I wanted to explain anything. His English is great. Then there was Jorge and Louis. They do the taping, prepping, rolling and brush work. Both hard workers. They all showed up around 7:30 am and worked until 3:30 pm with a one 1 hour lunch break. They don't fool around, and they work well as a team. I could not have asked for a better group. For the past 41 years I have been a real estate broker and have had the opportunity to have hundreds of homes painted. So when I say this team was good, I mean it. This was a 9 day job and on the 4th day we had a major problem. The paint color was not as approved but we did not notice it until 2/3 of the stucco had been painted. Our goal was to match our existing color, so we used Dunn Edwards paint just as before. My wife and I even went so far as to have a gallon premixed before the job started. We approved the color, but the color Mr. Kim picked up at Dunn Edwards was much lighter than our approved gallon. Just when we thought that we had solved that problem, another color issue came up. Again the colors did not match, and I called Dunn Edwards field rep to take a look. He was of no use. He tried telling me it was all due to the method of application. This was my 5th time painting my home in 24 years, so I can smell fast talk when I hear it. His job was to advocate for Dunn Edwards, not the customer. Andrew agreed to repaint the surfaces that needed to be repainted and it all worked out perfect. My opinion is that it was Dunn Edwards fault, not the application technique. But it cost me an additional $850, which I think was a little on the high side, but I agreed because I saw that the painters were doing a good job. Before I hired Andrew, I called 5 other painters for a bid. One flaked on me, another showed up and gave me a bid that was very comparable in price to Andrews bid, another gave me a bid over the phone based on photos I provided, and the last had scheduled to come out in a week for a bid. I selected Andrew based on a few factors. I called his office at 7:30 am, he answered and said he could be here in 1 hour. I live in Rancho Santa Margarita, his office is in Placenta. Not exactly close. He text me a link to a map so I could follow his travel to my home. He arrived on time. He presented himself in a professional manner and had a written bid, license and insurance information emailed to me within 1.5 hours after leaving. He started the job 1 week later, (on the same day that the 5th painter I called was scheduled to give me his bid). Plus the many Yelp reviews helped in my decision, which is why I wanted to add my experience. This job could have gone south very quickly if Andrew and his team of professionals had different personalities. But their willingness to work through the color issues and a few other minor details, made this a Win-Win for both parties. I would highly recommend Andrew and the crew that painted my house to anyone looking for a great job at a fair price. But remember, it's your money and your home, so keep an eye on the process. Poor installation of tiles. Uneven tiles. Had to buy more tiles during job to replace tiles that were lifted. Made them pay for extra tiles needed to fix their errors. Too much mortar thinset was applied under tile, no room for grout. Holes in grout, everywhere. I asked if they guaranteed their work and no response was given. I'm worried the tiles will not last long. Rookie job. Did not turn water off when removing toilets, water everywhere. Damaged toilets when reinstalling, $250 fee to reinstall. Told them we would not pay as we had to buy new parts to fix broken toilets. We should have charged them. Lack of adherence of cove base molding. Put a 4" molding in where a 6" use to be, did not paint or texture gap and said it was fine. We made them remove 4" molding and replace with 6" to do the job correctly. Did not replace all old molding in closet because it wouldn't be seen, again said it was fine. Corners of molding are pitiful. Paint not properly mixed. Overspray everywhere, did not tape off properly. Messy workers, did not clean as they went. Removed countertops and damaged wall and did not fix holes. Job should've been done in two or three weeks and went into five. The GC Andrew does not take pride in his work and is lazy. He wants you to do his job for him and he expects to still get paid. If you like to babysit and hold hands JG Decor is the company for you. We have high standards and they were not met. If you own a company, as we do, you should take pride in your work. read more

Three stars meaning, "OK" is honestly how I feel. They did an okay job and I can deal with it. We had them remove built-in bookshelves, replace medicine cabinets, and paint. I was hoping I was like the other reviewers here who gave them five stars... Built-in bookshelves - They did a good job removing the built-in bookshelves and adding the laminate floors to the existing floors, although one end of the new floors creak a LOT. There was a slight hiccup regarding the closet shelf. The bottom shelf was supposed to be removed, but they removed the two top shelves. I wasn't attached to the shelves, so I was okay and they removed the bottom shelf as agreed upon. Medicine cabinets - They did a decent job. Basic medicine cabinets with two dividers. They squeak when you open them, but I'm sure some elbow grease can take care of that. Paint - Overall paint job is okay, just okay. We had our walls, baseboards, doors, and casings painted. All our walls were painted one color and our trims another (gloss in bathrooms and matte everywhere else). Pretty simple, nothing complicated. At the time when we did a walk-through (quick), it looked okay. After a couple months, there were quite a few things I noticed. Not sure on the amount of coats of paint, but you can slightly see the previous wall color. I paid extra for priming and sanding on peeling doors/casings, but it's evident that no sanding was done. I can see areas where paint peeled and it was only painted over. I know sanding is a lot of manual work, but if they didn't want to do it, be honest. There were random nails not removed and painted over, but I guess it was my mistake to assume that removing nails was a given before painting. You can also see the rough brush strokes on the wall, which I'm not a fan of because it doesn't blend in with the rest of the walls. Overall, I can live with the paint job. Did I think it was worth it? Not sure. There were other bidders who were similar in cost and was going to add texture to the walls where patches were done to blend with the rest of the wall, which JG Decor didn't do/offer. Mind you, the house is not big, ceilings weren't painted, timeframe wasn't unreasonable and agreed upon....so not sure why there wasn't more TLC into the work. I'm not asking for a perfect job, but at least a right job where I can say I'm glad I went with experts. read more

Prompt service. Quality work. Good price. I met with Andrew after setting up an appointment. He was timely and gave me a fair estimate. It turns out - his price was the lowest and I got a good vibe from him - so I hired him and work began on January 2nd. I'll get this out of the way up front - it was supposed to be a two day project but it trickled into a third day. I almost docked JG Decor a star for that but three extra hours for fine quality work wasn't worth the knock - just a quick mention. OK - so the day we are to begin, Andrew arrived at 7:30 to show us two paint samples - we chose our favorite and then he went to get the color ordered while his two painters began moving furniture and taping off our belongings. Let me tell you, these guys were THOROUGH! One think I can't stand is a lackluster tape job - these guys made sure stuff was sealed off and their lines were straight. Day 1 was long - and smelly. Because primer is smelly, of course. But things were going according to plan. All our wood cabinets were meticulously sanded and the guys worked from 8:00 until 4:00 with a 30 minute lunch break. Andrew was in and out throughout the project... checking the work to make sure it was up to par. Day 2 started off well - but because it was so cold it was taking longer for the paint to dry. About 1:00 one of the painters told me he was worried that they would not be able to finish on time. I texted Andrew and he called me back right away so we could clear up the scheduling concern - I mean, he got right back to me and then drove over to inspect the work and adjust the schedule so it was convenient for me. The job took a little longer than I would have liked - but the work was excellent - and the customer service was fantastic. Overall we had a good experience with Andrew, though not without a couple of hiccups. He came out very quickly to provide an estimate, which was very reasonable for the scope of work. We booked a date to start the project, but on the day of he had some miscommunication with his staff because he thought he was coming out again for an estimate. We discussed a couple of other issues in the house we wanted addressed as well, and he said he'd let us know when they could start. Despite the confusion on their end he was able to get the job started the following day. The work they did was good and thorough. My one recommendation is to very carefully inspect the job contract as a couple of the little items we had talked about and planned to have done we not on the contract. He did, however, throw those in, and without charge (though we offered to pay since we had wanted that work done in the first place). That extra customer service is really why this is a 5-star instead of 4-star review. Like most contractors their clean-up at the end of the project left something to be desired, but we've learned to expect that. I live in a 27 year old house. A small water leak occurred between a bathroom and closet. I called Andrew because he and his crew did a wonderful home renovation job for me back in 2017. Andrew is the owner and contractor who comes out and does the estimates. He then sends out whomever is needed for the job(s). I was pleasantly surprised that the plumber was one of the crew who worked the 2017 job. He opened up the dry wall, removed baseboard and vinyl plank flooring, identified the problem and fixed the leak. I've had other plumbing issues with this house. Andrew's prices are more than fair. So much so, I also asked to have my faulty main water shut-off valve replaced. The one near the street works but the one above my pressure regulator has never worked. Done. I also had additional electrical outlets installed by one of Andrew's electricians. Andrew's estimate for everything was very reasonable. My plumbing issues are fixed; all drywall repairs done with texture coat and paint; baseboard was replaced and floor planks re-installed. Andrew is always polite and friendly. So too are his workers. I also appreciated how they make great effort to clean up dust and debris. I was extremely happy with JG Decor's work in 2017 and am once again! My wife and I bought a house in Anaheim that was built in the early 70's. We called several contractors, most couldn't come out to even bid the job for a couple weeks and were scheduling 1-2 months out from there and the ones that could come by had no license or an expired license (or were using someone else's). Andrew had stellar reviews, was prompt and forthcoming, payment schedule was clearly laid out, pricing was on par with what I expected and he offered a well organized contract. Given the aforementioned, we hired him with a projected date of 4 weeks to completion. We had Andrew hang new doors and moldings, move some electrical (some of the doors were pocket doors so this was required), build some cabinets and paint the place, top to bottom. Carpentry: 2/5 Stars STAY ON HIM. He subcontracts his carpentry to someone that speaks almost no English which wouldn't be a problem if he had exercised proper judgment/given proper instruction. It doesn't help that there's a language barrier with Andrew, too. If I had hired him and been hands-off the project as I was with my flooring contractor who did amazing work, I would likely be in a lawsuit right now. I do not think I have EVER been so dissatisfied with work while it was being done only to be argued with by my contractor. Some doors were perfect, others had mis-aligned strike plates (allowing the doors to flap as interior pressure changes), my pocket doors were hung so the tracks/adjusters were visible, doors were WAY overcut for the handles we purchased, and frames were over-cut for their standard strike plates, ball-detent strike plates (that accompany closet doors with dummy-handles) were installed as though they were a routered strike plate so the doors were cut and the ball-detents were hitting the paint on the upper door frame. I had to show Andrew how to properly setup a dummy handle on the door and he ended up fixing the frame and door with bondo but the over-routered strike plates were not fixed, just filled with painter's caulk. Now for the most irritating situation: my laundry-room to garage fire-door was framed and installed crooked. I came to see the house and noticed this while the carpenter was hanging it and he said he would fix it. Again, very strong language barrier but I'm pretty sure we left with the same understanding. I came back the following day to find the drywall and molding in and the door hadn't been fixed. At this point, I called Andrew to come look and he told me the hole in the frame didn't match up unless the door was installed this way. Keep in mind, this is a pre-hung door... This was a bold-face lie. Even if it were true, he should've contacted me and I would've cleared him to re-router the frame or do whatever necessary to level the door as I do not cut corners. I would've happily paid if additional labor was involved. He refused to correct and I now have a crooked door that drives me nuts. He was quick to correct the issues that were reasonably cheap to correct (door strike plates, filled all the over-cut doors in with bondo, etc.) but I wasn't after another project to manage so I hired him. Well, I ended up managing him who managed his guys. This annoyed me as I could've subbed the work out myself and not needed to deal with him fighting me along the way. Cabinetry/Paint: 5/5 stars Cabinetry guy was expensive but worth every penny. Matched our current cabinets perfect and his attention to detail is outstanding. No problem on the cost, I am happy to pay for quality work. He again subbed out to a painter. This guy I would hire to paint my mother's coffin. His attention to detail, precision and finish work is second to none. I could not be happier with anything he did. In fact, this is the guy Andrew called in to fix the screw ups of all the other guys. Busted drywall from pocket doors, electrical, over-routered doors/frame, etc, this guy fixed it all and I'm super-anal about drywall. I usually want a whole wall re-textured when a patch is in but this guy is a paint/texture ninja. Overall: 3/5 Stars Andrew means well and aims to please. In some areas, they lack the skill/knowledge to properly complete a task. Unfortunately, they won't tell you but you'll pay for them to learn. Other areas (paint/cabinetry) I would recommend them to everyone. He fixed the things i pressed him to fix (other than the crooked door) but also forced me to manage the project which I could've done without him. Funny enough, I met some people through a mutual friend that had used Andrew in the past. He experienced the exact same issues that I wrote about above but never reviewed him on Yelp. Well yelpers, I feel it's my responsibility to share my experience with you to ensure you do not enter a contract with JG Décor blindly as I did. I would hire them in a heartbeat to paint, that's about it unless you want to be your contractor's project manager. Then again, I guess I would hire their painter in a heartbeat, again, not so much them. read more
