For $25 - you get supposedly 3 hours of all the snow tubing one can desire. What we got... one trip down the hill, wind blown, frozen limbs, and screaming children who were SCARED to death of the giant hill there parents were forcing them to go down. (Meanwhile, there was a kid hill...) Oh, and also a VERY obnoxious teenage girl who thought she ran the place couldn't even keep things running smoothly... maybe more management would have allowed more than run down the hill. What a shame, I was really looking forward to snow tubing... read more

The shortest trails ever! We originally wanted to come to JFBB for demo day (most of my friends board and wanted to get new gear and try out some snowboards). However, due to a long night out, we actually didn't get to JFBB until 2:30pm, which wasn't TOO late. Except that the demos were over at 2:00pm. Fail. We decided to get the night tickets for $34 and then hit the slopes...except the mountain really was not that fun! We went mainly on blues and blacks and some of the terrain parks. It was pretty icy conditions since it was probably around 12 degrees out. Everything was just so short, it took longer to get to the top of the trail then to actually come down it! The lifts are very old and narrow as well. My roommate's board got caught on the side of the lift when we were unloading and she injured her knee! It really should have been a double lift instead of a triple. Ski patrol was really nice though and even joked around while putting her into the stretcher/gurney type thing (she wasn't seriously injured). I probably wouldn't come back again unless I was really desperate (since it is so close to NYC). read more

I've gone to Big Boulder twice now, mostly because of their Wednesday deal for college students: $15 lift tickets, $10 rentals. I'm an experienced skier. Big Boulder seems to be targeted at two crowds: beginners and skiers/boarders interested in terrain parks. I'm neither. Personally, I like a mountain with a lot of variety in terrain, and Big Boulder just has nothing like it. It's a small mountain, and pretty much all the trails are about the same. If you're a beginner, however, this is a great place to go. The beginner lift area is a perfect place to work on your skills, as the terrain isn't very steep. As you get better, it's easy to make the transition to the harder, more advanced trails. (I know this because I've been teaching my girlfriend to ski here). However, it's a mountain you'll grow out of pretty quickly, unless you're interested in terrain parks. Big Boulder has one of the most impressive park setups of any small mountain I've been to. It's clear this is the demographic they're aiming for, and they put a lot of money into making jumps and park elements for everyone. I definitely would have rated this higher if that was my sort of thing. From what I've heard, they even try to keep certain trails open until May, though I can't imagine the conditions are very good. Speaking of conditions, I've been very impressed the last couple times I've been there. Both times were after heavy rain, and the snow held up surprisingly well. Really, the only reason I go back to BB is because of the special I mentioned--it's just not my kind of mountain. If you're a beginner or park rider, you should definitely check it out. read more

I've never been to a mountain where you're at the top of the slope when you get your ticket and you can just strap in and start boarding down. The left side of the hill has short green runs, the middle has a few nice blue runs which aren't too steep and have a lot of space to carve, but are quite short-lived, and besides "Challenge," the blacks are quite steep and challenging. I saw people literally sliding down half the mountain on the blacks because of the what looked like 70 degree inclines. Lifts were never too crowded, as I never had to wait longer than 5 minutes, even on a Saturday. However, the morning started off really icy and their close time of 4pm was less than ideal...you can always head over to Big Boulder after with the same lift ticket. read more

The lodge bar upstairs was pretty cool. Some tables are ski lifts! The food was good too. Enjoyed the chili nachos and chili. The wing zingers were nothing special. Some good beer options but rather expensive. The staff were kind of disorganized. I don't know if it's bc there was a 92.5 xtu event or what. We had to show our IDs to get into the bar where it stated you had to be 21. Yet there were young kids in there. After waiting to show our IDs there was NO WHERE to sit and staff was busy running around so we just kind of stalked tables out for 10-15 minutes which was rather annoying (it was also 12pm on a Friday). Once we got a table though our waitress was nice. No other complaints. We went snowtubing at jack frost. I highly recommend doing a weekday all day pass for $25. There's only 7 lanes and they are all pretty much the same so I wouldn't recommend paying any more. The lift was awesome! And you can go down in groups! Had a blast! read more

If you've ever skied or snowboard-ed somewhere NOT in the Poconos you quickly realize that PA skiing/riding is kinda cruddy no matter what. Small hills, few trails, ancient lifts, big crowds, third-rate lodges, and ice, ice, ICE! That said, BB does have some decent stuff going for it. The park/terrain areas are its glory, and those who are into that kinda thing flock here. The snow making operation is better than most Poconos ski areas, and the all-trail night skiing is a nice plus... if you can suffer the packs of teenagers who come to take advantage of it. Yeah... it's pretty small, but all-in-all fairly decent. read more

JFBB is a great place to go to for beginners. You get two slopes for the price of one! Jack Frost is for the more advanced & Big Boulder is for easier slopes & terrains. Big Boulder is a great place to learn how to board/ski because they're beginner slopes are really mellow but relatively long. At other slopes, they're bunny hills are ridiculously short & their green slopes were too advanced for a newbie. BB's green paths were just perfect for the newbie to get accustomed to moving on their board or skis. I also tried the Discovery Beginner Lesson. We started off the lesson at 1pm with a group of people with ages varying widely. The instructors were extremely patient, helpful, and encouraging. They taught us the basics like braking, moving backwards, gliding, etc. With an hour left, they took us up the ski-lift & guided us down the green slope. They taught us the falling leaf. It was a good lesson for the beginner especially since the instructors were energetic and friendly! The lodge itself is alright. Lockers are 50 cents & coin operated. They still use sticker tags as ski passes rather than the more updated electronic turnstiles. read more

This is a great beginner hill but not that big of a mountain at all. Though not large enough a mountain for me, its a super nice mountain to learn to snowboard on. Trails are not nearly long enough for an advanced snowboarder or anyone who can ski/snowboard at a normal speed. Its great to have the lodge at the top of the mount and not at the base, because you don't feel like you are skiing down to chaos at the bottom of each run you do. Its also nice to have the chair lifts situated the way they are too. I like the fact the greens are all on one side and it gets progressively harder towards the other. Parking is also easy, but prices are competitively high for lift tickets, food and especially rental. Do your self a favor and save $20 on each rental by renting off site. read more

My first visit to Jack Frost in over 20 years and I was not disappointed. The people working there are friendly and helpful. The rental process is faster than most mountains. The Discover Skiing program was the best learning situation that I have seen for my family's needs. Of course it wasn't perfect. The mountain is smaller than others nearby. The website was not very user friendly. I had a customer service issue and needed to wait on line for over 45 minutes. The problems were smaller than the benefits and I definitely prefer this ski mountain to others in the area. read more

Yay! We do an annual trip to this mountain since none of us are serious skiers and snowboarders, it works for a great social setting....those that want to ski get it in and others get to enjoy the simplicity of it all. This review is especially for the ski school. I took my first ski class with them and I thought I would have a quick intro and then on the slopes within 10 minutes. NOPE. I went (along with other friends) from one station to another, you had to pass/master a skill before you could proceed. It was really amazing. The coaches were great, patient, so nice and cared a lot about your safety. They would not let you progress or get on the lift with their blessing until you satisfied the learning course. Finally, the coach brings you on the lift and skis you down the hill. It was so amazing. I couldn't believe I did it although so scared. I would recommend this to everyone!!!!!! Great job!!!!!!!! read more

It is great skiing and can usually find a coupon to use to help off set the price of the lift tickets. Never had an issue with the place. Yesterday we had a great day skiing on the hills. We're always pleased. read more

Came here today to learn how to snowboard and that I did!!! The lessons were great and so was the instructors, they teach you all the basics and don't rush you if you need more help than others. I was fortunate enough to be somewhat good at it and pulled me from my group and brought me up the mountain. Again I was lucky and got to sit with the instructor seeing there was no else ready to go up yet, he explained what to expect when we got to the top, I fell about twice on the way down saw what I was doing wrong corrected me and literally everything came together after that we made it down. When we got to the base of the mountain he said I had it down pat and asked if I want him to go up with me again but I had faith in myself at that point and boarded the rest of the day with no problems!!! Had a great time read more

Don't buy tickets online!!! Under new management with Vale and they are thieves. We purchased 3 overpriced passes for a Sunday at Jack Frost. We changed plans and cancelled 4 days in advance and have copies of the cancellation. We were well within their cancellation deadline. However, after a month, they never refunded my card so, I filed a dispute with the credit card. Vale came back and denied that we ever cancelled. So, I had to provide all these documents to my credit card. Huge hassle and waste of my time!!! ! We will no longer ski at JFBB or buy the Epic pass (they didn't refund anyone during pandemic). We go to Bear, Blue, Montage or Elk. There are better options at places who care about their customers. read more

I visit JFBB often, but will not go back. I tried to buy lift tickets with a gift card I purchased last year, but they told me I could not do so, even though the card says " This Card May Be used toward purchase of Lift Tickets, Rental, Lessons, or Food Service". Awful business ran by awful people. Would give zero stars if I could. read more

Very disappointed in big boulder paying almost $60 for lift tickets when only 2 lifts are open and not one park is open nor really set up. You have to unstrap and walk a decent distance to get anywhere near a jump or rail. I'd rather take my money and fun someplace else read more

Absolutely awful skiing experience. Where to even start!? Arrived yesterday at 10am for Saturday skiing. The line for lift tickets was 30 minutes, but then the line for rentals was 2.5 HOURS. My sister waited in that insane line while the rest of the group- who had equipment- went skiing. Lift lines were out of control long, and half the trails were covered in groomed snow but closed with no explanation. Half the lifts were also closed with no explanation except the good old "we are short staffed!" If you're short staffed and can't open the trails/ lifts, WHY ARE YOU OVER CAPACITY ON HOW MANY PEOPLE YOU'RE ALLOWING TO SKI?? The parking lot was an absolute nightmare by 10am and we parked what felt like a mile away (no shuttle, of course). It was covered in ice (of course nobody bothered to put down salt) and people were slipping left and right. Yesterday we got stuck on a lift for 20min, and then had the exact same experience today (and then they wound up shutting down the lift). We were told the same lift also malfunctioned and shut down last Sunday too. Just an absolute mess of a mountain with no focus on the customer. It's very clear that money is all that matters here, and although we skied JF many times over the past years, we will never ever return. Shame on you, Vail and Jack Frost!! read more

I got the discovery package for beginners and want to give a huge shout out to the instructors! They were so patient and encouraging in walking you through side-stepping up a hill, making a triangle/pizza to slow down, and turning before going down the snowflake slope with you. Their methods work! You learn as a group but they give individual attention and tips so you feel like it's a private lesson. I never thought I'd even make it down the slope once but I managed to go down 3x without falling. Jack Frost closes at 4PM but you can take your same ticket over to Big Boulder to continue the fun. Will definitely visit again! read more

It's not Austria or even Sugarloaf, but that's ok because I'm not Olympic level. The great part about this resort is that you get both sets of trails for your pass, so if you get tired of the same trails you can head on over to the other side. Moving here as a teenager from Staten Island, the only experience I had with winter sports consisted of a plastic sled. This is the resort I learned to ski and board at it's a great choice if you're more novice than expert. Like I said, if you need a challenge look elsewhere because I was able to try out the black diamonds within a month after going on a weekly basis. There's plenty of beginners trails - so if you have kids or are just learning yourself you won't be overwhelmed. They have snowtubing too, at an extra cost. I left my days of "drinking and tubing" back in college, though. The black diamonds they do have are pretty fun. Upper Sitzmark sits all the way on the left and is the longest trail that intertwines with another. If you get off the lift at the end towards it, look to your right and there's a little 'secret trail' that runs about 700 feet through the woods with some dips and moguls and it's a much more fun way to take than just riding straight over. The Merry Widow is no damn joke. This coasts down and comes to a edge that shoots you off to about a 500 foot practically vertical drop, mind the nice mogul they pack up at the center that gives you an extra boost. If you're not prepared it can be a 'life flashing before your eyes' experience. Be aware you need to stop quickly, the lodge isn't too far from the end of the trail. Someone, at some point in history has had to have crashed into the building. Thankfully, never me. The center has a nice-sized terrain park, mostly dominated by teenage snowboarders. The rest of the resort: a little outdated. The lifts could use some updating and can be jerky. I have the bruises on the back of my legs to prove it. The lodge is typical with the sweat sock smell and cafeteria food. If you're looking for one with nightly entertainment and better restaurants, you might want to try Shawnee or Camelback. Lake Harmony is right nearby though, with plenty of nice restaurants. All right, I'm done now. Pass the Icy-Hot. read more

Friendly and helpful staff, well groomed slopes. And my kids learned to ski beautifully in their Snowmonsters class! We'll be back.

I wanted a hot chocolate for my son & was directed to the Tbar inside the lodge by an employee. I sat down & ordered my drinks, got them, paid & was enjoying my short break when the bartender, who I hadn't had any interaction with came over & with an angry, loud tone said "you can't be here, noone under 21". Now I totally get that there are rules & I had no problem leaving but there were no signs anywhere saying or was 21 & over so why was this lady yelling at me? This is 2pm & why did the waitress take my order if we weren't allowed to be there? The bartender embarressed me & everyone in the area looked at us & her. She could have just asked me nicely instead of being rude. This lady needs to learn manners & politeness, especially being in the service industry! I was offended & will not be returning. read more

Overall skiing experience was fun, but should work on more grooming to hills. In two hours of skiing, I witnessed three accidents requiring medics, and countless other crashes. Besides that, would totally recommend JFBB. However, my main reason of review, and why I am giving two stars is because of my experience at the Frosty Toboggan. The creativity of their burgers: 10/10, but the lack of service and burnt burgers completely overshadow their potential. My accompaniment and I were made aware they were down three employees, but in all honesty, if they were down ONLY three, they should consider hiring. Our food came an hour and a half later, and they messed up my order, and I was stuck with a plain burnt burger, with pretty good chips. They never asked how I wanted my burger. The waitress was very kind though and is the reason they are getting TWO stars instead of one. The space was very claustrophobic and screaming kids were everywhere. Wishing we stuck with the food court! Update: It's been two hours. One star. One freaking star. Just witnessed my friend almost fall off a ski lift after she missed the seat while the lift kept going and the man working didn't even notice! She was hanging from about 3 stories high when it stopped. Everyone had to scream as loud as possible for him to get a grip! She was pulled up to safety by others with us and she didn't fall. We are done for the day. It was ridiculous! She is luckily ok, but very traumatizing for all of us read more

Had a great time skiing at big boulder.... but took my family tubing and had THE WORST TIME EVER. The tubing runs weren't groomed at all, they sold too many tickets and couldn't handle the crowd. Literally did 2 runs in an hour and fifteen minutes. My buddy hurt his back going down his first run of the day( he ran over an ice boulder on his tubing run) and was knocked out of commission. The mountain would not refund the money. Horrible. read more

Had the best day skiing at Jack Frost! The slopes were snow filled, plenty of room to do runs and not long wait times at all. I also left my ski pants behind, and when i called the next morning, they not only had them, they mailed them back to me with all of cards, and id in pockets. They are a great family place, and couples place for a day out. Would definitely go again. read more

I've only been skiing for three years, and kicking myself in the ass for not having learned years ago. As I've only skied JF/BB, I don't have a lot of perspective, but have enjoyed the times that I've been there. One of the things that I think they do a GREAT job of is with their ski school. When most people think of ski lessons for beginners, it's usually a group of 10-15 people with an instructor showing you different skills. Here, it's completely different. There are about 8 stations with an instructor going through a different skill at each. Once you master a skill, you get passed on. You can go through as quickly or slowly as you like. The last part of the lessons is with 2-3 people and an instructor taking you to one of the green hills. They help you go down your first time, and then kick you out of the nest. The good thing is, if you're still not confident, you can always hook up with the next instructor-led group going down. They are REALLY patient. If you've never skied and want to learn, THIS is the place to go. As for the hill itself, there's not much here if you're an advanced skier. I've been five times over the last few years, and I'm just getting close to trying one of the black hills. However, if you're a beginner to intermediate skier, it's a pretty good place to work on your skiing The main lodge has a nice little bar area, with a decent beer selection. The highlight, in my opinion, is the outdoor grill. Just as you're finishing a run, and getting ready for a beer, you smell burgers and hot dogs grilling beside an outdoor fire pit. What a great way to take a break during the day, or to finish up! Overall, I've been pretty happy with all of my experiences here. Oh, and btw, if you pop into the smaller lodge to the left of the hill (from the bottom, looking UP), they have Magic Hat #9. What a great surprise! read more

If you're going to snow tube, save your money or go somewhere else; I hear Camelback is nice. In three hours, we only made it down the hill three times. The rest of the time was spent waiting in line (all of the lanes weren't open) or waiting to get on the only lift to the top (two listed on BB website). Not once did an employee warn that the hill wasn't operating at 100% or that they were getting close to capacity. In fact, we heard an employee telling the group in the ticket line that there were still 75 tickets. And Big Boulder's solution to having too many people on the hill? Yelling at them to hurry up getting off their tubes when they got to the bottom. Snow tubing at Big Boulder clearly exists only as a way to scam people out of money. Don't go. You'll be sorry. read more

Went here the other day for the first time with my friend Lauren and we had an excellent time. Clean and everything was clearly laid out and marked. I want to give a big shot out to Kailin (spelling might be wrong) who helped me in the ski boot section! She was extremely knowledgeable, attentive and so sweet! Only a couple days in at her job there and she's already a pro! read more

This place is a complete waste of money. If you've never been skiing before it might be OK. The blue slopes were barely green level and the black diamonds were really medium blues at best. The runs are VERY short and the lifts are VEY small (many are only 2 seaters) and VERY slow. I went there on Valentines Day with my Daughter. Tried to use a BOGO coupon they put out on on Facebook. They wouldn't accept it because I had it on my phone and not printed out on a piece of paper. Unfortunately, I didn't think to bring a printer along on my vacation, this being 2013, and not 1990. There are too many other, better options in the area to get crappy service like that and ever go back. If you've never been to to a ski mountain before I guess you wouldn't know the difference. If you actually like to ski, save yourself some frustration (and money if use Liftopia) and go to Camelback or Blue Mountain. Real mountains with real trails. read more

This mountain was great! The conditions were terrific when I went, but the place would have been great had I not even gone down the mountain. The food was good and fairly priced and the lodge ambiance was terrific. Love the fireplace and Rosey the St. Bernard! Definitely going to go back! read more

Didn't enjoy this trip. Went with my nephews and nieces who just wanted to have fun. Spent time with them, but they had a hard time enjoying the slope. Teens were turning the slope into their extreme sports trail and made it dangerous for my nephews and nieces. Complained to the staff there and they said they can't do anything about it. Horrible experience. Would not recommend young children there!!!! Never going again! read more

Went skiing and was pleasantly surprised. Havent been there in years and got a good deal on plum benefits. Check in staff was very nice and is the process to get the rentals was seamless. The cafeteria offerings were plenty and the quality of the food was pretty good. Bathrooms were clean. Plenty of clean seating. Ski lift operators were pleasant. Would go back. Parking lot was in good shape and not many huge piddles or ditches like other resorts. read more

Went to JFBB and it was phenomenal! They have an amazing deal for college students on Wednesdays- $40 for ski/snowboard rental AND lift! We started at Jack Frost and it closed around 4pm. We were kind of bummed because we had arrived around 1pm, but one of the workers informed us that we could head on across the street to Big Boulder, which closed at 9pm, and use our passes there with no extra fee! They also were giving free lessons to anyone that wanted them. Their locks are only $0.50, while most other ski resorts charge up to $2/lock. This was definitely, by far, the cheapest ski trip I ever went on. Their mountains were decent, and I would definitely go again for the Wednesday deal. read more

Between snow tubing, terrain parks, and a decent selection of black diamonds, you won't be bored here if you are into winter sports.

Went snow tubing at Big Boulder on an extremely cold and windy late afternoon. The actual snow tubing part was fun but NOT the 20+ minutes (yes, I timed it) of waiting we had to do at the top of the hill before each run). I get the whole "safety first" thing... but if you're going to make me sign a waiver, you should NOT make me wait until the person 200 yards away has cleared out of the lane before allowing me to go down the hill. Maybe there's something I'm not understanding here? read more

Small mountain and the lodge is definitely dated. The blacks are pretty good. You can ski/snowboard until 4pm then have to go over to big Boulder from 4-9pm so if you have to rent it's definitely not worth going to this mountain. I'm a pretty good snowboarder and il tell you getting off the chair lifts was like going down a black diamond...they need to level that shit out!!! Tubing was a ton of fun there. We only paid 20 bucks so was def worth it. Other than that I'd go to blue or camelback if your only options are the poconos read more

Jack Frost is a fun mountain with some nice trails on East Mountain. Even on the busiest days East mountain is nice and not over crowded. Jack Frost has some nice beginner slopes as well that we have a fun time learning on. Jack frost does not have night skiing but Big Boulder does so we shoot over there and ski and board a bit and then we hit up the bar. The snow tubing at both places is mediocre but worth doing if you have a group that wants to do something at night but do not want to ski or snowboard. read more

The lifts are extremely too damn slow. This mountain is ok for people learning to ski or snowboard but that's it. For a shorter mountain with a minimum variety of trails they need to be able to get people to the top faster. I gave it a couple more chances this year and it just isn't worth it. They do have a great bar setup with an ideal window view to see some of the snowboarders in action outside, but I don't go to the mountain to drink, I go to ski and snowboard. read more

Big Boulder is great! My husband is a very experienced skier and finds that the black diamonds can keep him occupied, but not challenging (FYI he is an expert level skier). I am an intermediate level skier and love the trails! As a mom of two young kids I especially love how clean the lodge is! I just spent a weekend at a rival mountain and cannot wait to go back to my Big Boulder! read more

Feeling thankful to be alive when almost I came close to death snow tubing here In addition to brain injury, I suffered broken ribs, and had a facial reconstruction surgery complete with titanium implants for orbital and nasal facial fractures What's most despicable is that the telephone poles we slammed into with my family ( tubes tied together )at the end of the run are still there... ready for the perfect weather conditions for another injury. We flew past the stopping mats, up the hill and hit the pole. Lawsuit was completely unsuccessful because the small print on the waiver allows for maiming or death. That waiver offers JFBB and their lawyers the right to completely disregard your life Feeling compelled to inform families on vacation to beware of this dangerous course read more

Good mountain, great for riding but the lodges are much to be desired.i found them to be very dirty.overall a good experience, decent prices

For skiing it is not a lot of fun being very short and largely flat, but very dangerous on the two right most courses if you slow down because of a sharp drop where you cannot see over the ledge. Lots of bad skiers, and last year one flew into me full speed, broke my leg in two places and separated my shoulder for the rest of my life. Great for learning, though. Good instructors. We are intermediate skiers. We took a lesson with my son with Erik, and my father was amazed how much my son improved in just one day when he saw him next weekend on another mountain. I feel I learned a lot too in just one hour after 40 years of skiing. Thanks, Erik. read more
