Blue Hill

Best skiing and snowboarding spot for beginners! I was nervous about skiing, given I could barely remember doing anything last time I went. I assured myself by buying lessons this time around, with a 1 Day Lift Pass and Rental add on ($167). This costed only $30 more than without lessons, so it's a good deal to me for a 2 hour group class! The website kind of markets you into buying ahead of time to save $5 but you can actually buy a lot later and still save $5. Also, if you buy too in advanced, you have to pay a $5 shipping cost for them to ship the passes to you. Getting there and starting lessons was seamless. They do tell you to come 1 hour in advance, but that's because the process of finding your rental gear can take a bit. I highly recommend entering your rental info online, as they were able to easily retrieve my stuff. The staff were so efficient and friendly! I swear everywhere outside NYC is so much more mannerly and genuine. Rental gear came with skis, helmet, boots, and poles. My instructor, Peter, was awesome and so patient! Even though we were a group, he still gave individual feedback as we took turns sliding down making wedges and turning. At the end of the lesson, we went down the Green Hill (I think it was Frosty) with our newfound knowledge. There were plenty of beginner Green Hills to learn from. Shoutout to the amazing staff for handling the ski lift lines. I even felt brave enough to tackle the Blue Hill by the end, which was scary steep at first but progressively gets less intimidating. Thanks to Jack Frost, I feel fully confident in taking a stab at snowboarding next time around.

We went to Jack Frost for the first time and had an okay experience. As beginners the slopes were good but the blue / easy slopes were more challenging / steeper. The problem we had was the ski lift had technical issues so we lost an hour of ski time due to this. We also had to either go down a steep slope (hard for beginners / intimidating) or climb up the mountain. We ended up climbing the mountain but we're again disappointed in losing slope time as they had closed the beginner slopes for the rest of the duration.

Loved the ambiance!

My sister lives nearby and we were celebrating our Anniversary so decided to spend the day at Big Boulder. Had a fabulous time and will definitely be back soon. Get your tickets online to guarantee that you get to enjoy snow tubing.

Medium sized Poconos mountain with three green trails for beginners. One road in, so can get slow leaving at the end when everyone heading out. Free parking is not paved but stone and mud. The $10 slope side parking is close and semi paved. This is interesting in that the lodge is at the top of the mountain instead of the bottom. So you start up top. The learning center you can check in little one (forms for release need to be filled out) and you get a neck card to pick up the little one later. The group classes are totally worth it for the kids, 3 hrs total with a snack break, level 1 for 3-4 yrs old, 2 for new older kids and 3 for all others. No diapers allowed. They learn how to put on their gear, tighten up, get up, walk around, use the lifts, and more. No carpets here. The little one after two classes was able to go on blues and use techniques like herringbone and parallel turns and more (they had skating experience which made it easier). Adult classes more mixed, good tips for beginners but need smaller class sizes to be really useful. 2 hour long discovery classes go over the basics from gear to turns and lift riding. The instructors (two Tom's and a Jim) were fantastic and class was definitely smaller and more manageable on a weekday. Weekends were crazy, double the class sizes. Rental center is to the side building for the equipment and they need to do the release online or electronically to go faster next time. But ppl left their shoes right there so that was convenient to pick back uponce you drop your gear off. Free bag check but people left bags on tables all around. Free ski check and they were strewn all over anyway. Bathrooms a bit slick and smelly for men, and a small pro shop with nice elderly ladies which helped with fitting goggles. The food court had good chili, skip the cold bread bowl which wasn't good sourdough at all. The mac and cheese was thick and good enough. The prices are a touch high but that's a lodge for you, no different than an amusement park. Overall good mountain with a mix of beginner to mid difficult courses. It was all man-made snow this time, not nearly enough real snow this year yet.

Wonderful down-to-earth place with plenty of charisma and great ski lessons for kids. The staff here is very kind and the atmosphere is not at all stuffy or snobby. Plenty of nearby parking and good drinks! The chili upstairs is great!

This is my second year coming to Jack Frost. The only reason why I'm leaving a poor review is because the ski lift attendants do not pay attention and people get hurt. Sometimes people falls and they don't stop the lift and other times they speed it up so fast it jams to the back of leg leaving you with big bruises are your calves and the back of your knees. Big boulder is better they pay attention on the ski lift.

Gorge trail can be seen from the slopes. Photo doesn't do it justice.

We spent two days here so that the kids could have lessons and we could have a chance to ski. I cannot tell you how amazed we were at our sons instructor, Carl! He needs to be running the ski program and teaching the other instructors how it is done. He got our son from wedge sking to parallel in one lesson! I didn't recognize him! He had confidence and control in just two hours!!! He also spent extra time explaining what he did and why and how we can support his new skill. I have never had such a comprehensive ski lesson experience. While we enjoyed our time skiing on our own we most enjoyed watching our kids get lots of hood experience. Their green circle trails were prefect for beginners to budding intermediate. The blue squares were great for them too! Perfect for new and beginner skiers. Carl Carl Carl! Ask for Carl! I hope he is running the place when you visit.

We had to wait over an hour and a half to get the rentals, and the lifts took about 30 minutes each. Complete waste of money.

I'd recommend renting off-mountain so you don't have to repeat the rental process every day.

PROS: this place was a nice water park to stay at. The staff is friendly, the bars and restaurants…read morewere good, and they had more rooms than you can count. Among the staff, Griffin at the front counter was a pleasure to work with. CONS: they charge you extra to use the common amenities (pool, gym, arcade, etc) and then extra on top of that for the water park. The electronic room key also failed and the carpet in our room wasn't clean. The line for check in took a solid 20 minutes. Longer than any other place I've been to. We also found a few bugs in our room OVERALL: not sure if I would come back here. The staff and the amount of amenities was amazing, but the cleanliness and the prices are very questionable

This review is being given a year after the visit due to my experiences with this company. Save your money and go to the Kartrite *NY* instead, a direct competitor of this company, who I rated 5 stars 3 years ago. My review of the Kartrite detailed that we had an awesome family getaway -- super friendly staff, a full schedule of kids' activities, scavenger hunts, and even the indoor/outdoor hot springs. It's organized, clean, and actually delivers on what it advertises. Split Rock was the complete opposite when we stayed in May 2025, while I was 8 months pregnant, as a babymoon and celebration for my first born before finally becoming a sister. From the moment we arrived, things were disorganized and poorly managed. We waited over 2 hours total just to check in in line in the lobby, and were given notice we would hear when our room was ready (a common practice advertised for families who want to use the water park before they check into their room), however no communication about when our room would be ready ever came so we waited again for an hour in the same line later on. The waterpark was only partially functional, with multiple attractions out of order, dirty bathrooms, and limited food options available. We "upgraded" to a Willowbrook suite specifically for the hot tub in the room -- which didn't have any working jets OR hot water. The room lacked basic essentials like soap, extra toilet paper, and even a trash can in the kitchen. One of the two AC units didn't function in the room. We later found out (on day TWO) that the property was under a boil water advisory, after we had already been drinking the water for our entire stay, WHILE I was 8 months pregnant. Dining was just as disappointing -- a $25 all you can eat Memorial Day "BBQ" that was actually one plate only, which included an undercooked hamburger, and resulted in my family getting sick the next day. Activities were inconsistent too -- advertised movies were changed without notice, and the WiFi didn't work when we tried to salvage the evening in the bedroom with a movie instead. The final straw: no hot water on our last morning. I chose not to make a scene during our stay because the front desk staff were clearly overwhelmed and dealing with many similar complaints. This is not a staff issue -- it is a systemic failure of this business. What makes this truly shameful is what happened in the months after when I tried to professionally handle the situation, without even asking for a refund which I really should have given the horrific standards not meeting appropriate living conditions. Following our stay, I sent a detailed and fair account of our experience similar but longer than this review. The Manager whose name I will redact at this time responded and offered a complimentary one-night stay "for two" (despite our two-night stay and the extent of issues). I responded promptly, reasonably asking about options for our family of four and a comparable experience. Then... nothing. I followed up multiple times over the course of an entire year with no response. As the certificate approached expiration, I reached out again simply trying to book something as the email requested I do when I was ready to try again. Still no response. At this point, it's not just about a bad stay, it's about a complete lack of accountability and follow-through. I hope this behavior in the year after is due to something more than lack of care. I no longer trust that I would have a safe visit for my family if they did offer me to stay. Now, I would only request a refund. I gave Split Rock every opportunity to make this right before posting publicly. Waiting a full year with no response is unacceptable. This was supposed to be a special final trip as a family of three. Instead, it was stressful, disappointing, and frankly unbelievable. I never thought I'd write a review like this -- but this experience earned it. Rooms: 1/5 | Service: 1/5 | Location: 2/5
