END UPDATE For years I have been able to rely on and trust the staff of Gateway Automotive. Today when my car died outside of the library I called the shop and Ryan assured me that if I towed it over they would take care of it so I did. I was immediately greeted by the staff and Ryan went straight to work. The problem was diagnosed and repaired in less than 2 hours. He was direct, accurate and incredibly helpful. I am grateful for his hard work. The entire staff is friendly, knowledgeable and professional. I ALWAYS recommend this shop for the fact that they've never been wrong and have always been honest. I have a lot of empathy for the young guys working at this facility. Why is the owner not supervising these young technicians? They have very little experience and should be supervised by experienced in licensed mechanics. When I picked up my vehicle, the alignment seemed way off. I'm not sure if it has anything to do with the work they performed, but they certainly took the two front rims and tires off the vehicle. All I can tell you is my steering wheel was jiggly back & forth driving over 60mph. As a result, I have to take my suv to a tire shop for a wheel alignment. Another $100 bucks.

He inspected our car and noticed that our ac compressor was very new but wasn't properly done by our previous mechanic. He recommended for us to go back to our mechanic since the part would be still under warranty and would save us the cost to redo the repair all over again. He helped us get tow service to get home safely. He went above and beyond to help us. We owe him so much and are soo grateful. Highly recommend this shop. They are very honest and kind. They were supposed to change it out for an aluminum one, they didn't. I had to take back in because they didn't install it right it leak oil all over the place. I had have the engine power washed to get all of oil out of the engine valley. Now I had to take it to get the manifold replaced because they stripped out the threads when they replaced the oil heater.

At that time, the 3333 address was the last business address going north on Mchenry. Dad had a racecar shop, which was added on sometime in about 1969, just past the original tire shop, and a large tire yard behind a 6-ft wood fence. That is where Dad kept my horse, Big Red, a very tall, very old sorrel gelding. My pet goat Becky was there with him to keep him company. It was common to pull into the business parking lot and see Red's giant head resting on top of the fence, and Becky standing on a pile of tires, right beside him.. I actually used to ride him in the big fields full of milk thistle (his favorite snack) which were just beyond the shop., where McHenry turned into flat farmland and emptiness. The last time I was there, I barely recognized the area, but there was that familiar sign. In reading the reviews, I see McCoy's is still going strong with the new ownership, who are still providing the best tires and service in town, just like in the old days!
