I've been to Jesse's about three times now, and it's been consistently great each visit. I always order the same thing: the French onion soup to start, ribs for dinner, and key lime pie for dessert. First, the good: Our waitress was sweet and attentive throughout our meal. The desert crème brûlée was awesome. The menu was nice. Caesar salad was fresh and flavorful. The not so good: The prime rib was pre-sliced and placed in a warming drawer at the chef's station. It was cold and tough after a few bites. The hot anjous was helpful but the meat was still dry. The manager was receptive to my comment about the chef, with long hair, didn't have a hair net or other means to prevent hair from finding it into the serving dishes. We had gone up for the weekend to do a baking class in Vermont at King Arthur, which was fantastic. We stayed right down the street from Jesse's and made a reservation which I'm glad we did because the place was packed at 6:30 on a Friday night, which is always a good sign. To start greeting staff was friendly, Waitress came and took our order and was correct. But we were there for 1 hour and she came by once. We were finished eating for 20 minutes and finally I had to ask another waiter to get my waiter so we could get the check. When she came back she was not very friendly and then she forgot to give me back my credit card and another waiter noticed it and gave it to me. The food was mediocre. The steak was ok but the vegetables were cold and not seasoned or done enough. The potato was barely warm. The bread was flavorless. Poor service, poor food. Service was fantastic. We came on a Tuesday night and it was packed! The hostess was able to get us a table for 2 pretty quickly. Not long after we were seated a basket of fresh bread was brought to us. The food was good, the maple crème brulé was delicious I would make the drive again just to have that! Jesse's Steakhouse is not gourmet dining -it's a steakhouse and should be compared to similar steakhouses. The last time we went was a few years ago and we ate in the restaurant. It was fun and the food was good. This time we did takeout. The order was correct and on time. The seafood gratin was delicious and came with rice and veggies. We pulled into town sort of late and the restaurant was close to the hotel we were staying at. We had an excellent meal. I had the black and bleu ribeye and it was cooked perfectly at medium rare. It was served with mashed sweet potato which was so good. My girlfriend had the meatloaf which was even better. To end the night we had dessert, a crème brûlée, so good. Jesse's has really gone downhill. I have been twice in the past 2 months and disappointed every time. First time ordered the bacon wrapped filet, medium rare. It was RARE. Waitstaff could see how under it was and offered to take 1/2 back to have them fire it again, which the kitchen did but it was still way under and it really ruined the meal. Next time I ordered fish and chips. The fries were good and that's it. A friend ordered the French onion soup and I felt terrible for her, it was as if it was the absolute bottom of the soup pot that had been sitting around all day. There was nothing "soupy" about it. Waitstaff, however, was amazing both times!! Jesse's good for a drink, maybe an appetizer. Save your money and go elsewhere for dinner. read more

We had a mostly excellent dining experience at Jesse's. From the start, the service was warm and attentive, with the manager stopping by to check in--a nice personal touch that made us feel welcome. Our server was friendly and efficient, but there was one misstep that took away from an otherwise enjoyable meal: our entrees arrived far too early, long before we had finished our appetizers and salads. It felt rushed, and unfortunately, our server didn't seem particularly concerned when we mentioned it. That said, the food was largely outstanding. My prime rib was perfectly cooked--tender and flavorful--and the mashed sweet potatoes were absolutely over the moon. My wife's king crab legs were cooked to perfection, though the price was definitely an eye-opener. The Caesar salad was underdressed and didn't leave a strong impression, but the greens and house-made croutons were fresh and crisp. Jesse's is an awesome, upscale steakhouse tavern. The food is delicious, here, and I'll get into that soon. Seating is everything when there is so much ambience in such a classic establishment, so here are your choices to request if all sections are open: 1.) the main tavern dining room, to the left of reception. This is the hearth, if you will, where families gather. Kids are seated in this section. 2.) The bar dining room. You're not really in the bar for much of the seating area but it is more festive and casual. In the bar area, you are seated in a true tavern with good cheer, with a fireplace and log cabin charm. 3.) The outdoor patio: this is weather dependent, of course. It's lush, green and filled with umbrellas and garden flowers. 4.) The grand club dining room, farthest to the left, which has sportsmen decor. 5.) The patio off to the left of the club dining room is a gorgeous balcony and awesome (when open). 6.) The downstairs dining room, full of booths and nostalgic splendor that I've rarely seen full and 7.) The L-shaped bar dining. Many folks dine at the bar, here. Get apps, soups, salads and steak: any steak. And the mashed sweet potatoes which are as fun as Thanksgiving ... and the house vegetable. You'll be smitten. Also, this is one of those rare steakhouses where you can still manage to enjoy a baked potato. So, if you are not into sweet potatoes, enjoy a loaded baked potato. The cocktails and draft pour choices are excellent, here. And ... so are the desserts. Service, on the whole, is generally above par here. read more

Wow. Such a horrible experience. Came in at 5pm and snagged a 7pm reservation for 4. This was our first time in this town and we are able leave the restaurant and come back for the reservation. No issues so far.. We were called to our table at 7:15 but no one greeted us or got us drinks until 7:30. Server didn't come back for another 10-15 min when he took our order. Food took another hour to arrive, so now it's almost 9 by the time we are eating. Our appetizer and salads were served at the same time as the entrees. 3 people got prime rib, all overcooked and minimal flavor. I got lobster and crab legs. Lobster was slightly overcooked but still okay but crab legs were serverly overcooked. Service was horrible and food was horrible, especially at this price point. I was shocked because this place had stellar reviews.. but it definitely wasn't a stellar experience for us. Would not recommend!! read more

We ordered prime rib, ribs, salads, French onion soup,asparagus, fries, shrimp cocktail, and a kids meal burger. The prime rib was good and the vegetables were also OK. One of the prime rib this order, black and bleau - was not as flavorful as expected. Then asparagus fries were crisp and hot. The salads came out with almost no dressing but were otherwise fresh and good. The ribs were good. Both half racks met expectations. They need to up their bread game. The crumbly brown tasteless loaf was only edible due to the honey butter. Drinks were reasonably priced and well made. The kids meal burger looked like a silver dollar dropped in an oversized bun. Went to Jessie's on a Friday night, in time for happy hour, to find that craft beers were the only HH specials. Not to worry; still plenty to choose from. Even though it was Friday-night-busy, my bartender brought menus and water quickly, and was back soon enough, considering the crowd she was dealing with. I decided on a Bombay Sapphire martini, for which my server gladly made some bleu cheese-stuffed olives. (Great service there!) Then, I thought, a couple of appetizers would be enough to accompany my beverage of choice. The French onion soup, which was highly praised by the woman sitting next to me, did not disappoint. Rich beef broth, excellent amount of onions and bubbly cheese topping. Next time, I may ask them to be a bit generous with the cheese, though it was hardly skimpy. After that, it was a half Caesar salad. They have half orders of all their salads: house, Caesar and wedge, and you can add proteins to make main course salads out of either the half or full portion depending on how hungry you are. I was very tempted by the prime rib, but the smallest cut they offer is 12 oz. I just wasn't hungry enough, so next visit I'll plan better to be sure to have room. Everything tasted great, BUT they should really give you a better heads up about the pricing of the lobster roll. You figure something located in the Sandwich section would be similarly priced as everything else. All sandwiches are $17-20 and the Lobster roll says "Market Price". This was a lovely place! Well landscaped with outdoor seating. We had a 30 min. wait. Our lobster & steak meal was delicious! Our server was new but did a great job. We were first seated in a small 2 seat table against a wall in a row where you are on top of each other. That type is seated should not be able anywhere. I understand business owner are trying to get in as many as possible but personally we do not like hearing everyone's conversation nor they hear ours by having to talk louder. Our server heard a conversation of not being happy we were seated so he suggested a larger table which was perfect. Our second table was by a table of 6 which was filled by 6 young nurse interns who was chatty and loud so it was not as relaxing for us. I do recommend this place. The food and service was fabulous. Went to Jesse's for the first time. We will definitely be back!! We sat in the back room and had Kenia as our server, she was very attentive. When my boyfriend's drink came out wrong she corrected it immediately and was very friendly. The motif reminded me of a steakhouse in Montana. The table next to us was taking pictures before they left. Our appetizers were the French onion soup and the Crab bisque! Both were delicious! Our entrees were the prime rib and the meatloaf. Both delicious and cooked perfect! The meatloaf that crispy edges, and seasoned well. The prime rib was tender and melted in your mouth! Ate the most fabulous food there yesterday. Had the fried calamari, Nantucket seafood gratin...both cooked to absolute perfection. Not easy with seafood. The vegetables, a combination of string beans and slivered carrots, were stunning and cooked perfectly. My guest had the grilled sirloin and baked potato...his steak also cooked to perfection...service was wonderful. So much food, I took about half home...and enjoyed it for dinner. Was an absolute treat to enjoy such excellence in cuisine. Will be back ! Too bad my next appointment at DHMC doesn't jibe with having lunch there. Will have to make a special trip. The food was good but not great. I'm here from Texas where we know our steaks. My steak was a little over done but still juicy and flavorful. The baked potato was good. The bread basket was good and the butter was some of the best I've had in a long time. Next time I'll try the lobster. Some people are saying that this place doesn't exist; probably because you can't get there by following GPS. I tried using GPS twice but it kept sending me to non-existent roads & telling me to turn into parking lots that should have been roads. Our fourth time here. Food service and ambiance again were great. We put our name in this time for a table restaurant for 5. Started I the lounge at 4:30 for a drink before dinner. Service and drinks were great. Went to dining room for dinner this time. Atmospheric service and our dinners were also great. The only thing that was disappointing this time was that they no longer have the salad bar and will probably never bring it back. Was told Covid changed a lot of things and now that the salad bar is gone it made space for a lot more seating. That makes me sad since I do really Enjoy fresh clean salad bars but I get times have changed since the lockdown. I haven't been to Jesse's in 6ish years. Some thing's have changed and it's not all good. The overloaded salad bar shows in a website picture, but it wasn't there when we were. Yet, the menu seemed to provide a good assortment in its place. I ordered a half Summer Berry Salad. Described as, "blackberries, blueberries, sweet drop peppers, goat cheese, and candied pecans, spring greens, maple vinaigrette". There was total of 4 blueberries, no blackberries nor peppers, nor pecans. There was the odd piece of onion and the vinaigrette was tasty. My entree was a LOADED Lobster Roll. The bread was house baked and was terrific! But that was it for the lobster roll: a foot-long ciabotta roll with melon-baller sized lobster chunks. It was terribly dry and our server was not to be found. No lettuce. No butter. No Mayo. No salt & pepper or spice of any sort. And, it was $50. Fifty dollars. My companion ordered what turned out to be a rib-eye sub. Same sort of bread. When he requested no mushrooms or peppers he was told they are already mixed in so they can't be removed. I've not heard of such a thing. We skipped dessert. My advice, if you need to eat at Jesse's, would be to stick with the steaks. Perhaps because it was graduation week they were off their game. But, a weak lobster roll and a mediocre steak sub for $98 won't create the lasting memories a grad would hope for. read more

My wife and I went to Jesse's for date nights for many years. We'd go to celebrate a special occasion, or just to have a nice meal out of the house. I still remember the first time she took me there after we moved to the Upper Valley, back when we were just dating. And when we got married, we brought both of our families to mark the occasion. There are a lot of things to love about Jesse's. The food is always excellent. We'd always get the oysters with extra dirty martinis. Her favorite was the meatloaf, mine was the Black and Blue Ribeye. The service has always been stellar. We were always made to feel welcome and like we were coming back home. And the decor is beautiful, quintessential New England. It reminds me of the ski lodges my family used to stay at when I was a kid. My wife tragically passed away last month, far, far too young. While she was in the hospital, and after she passed, my family and her family shared many sad meals together at Jesse's, but being there always made us feel a little less sad. A little like she was there with us, because it was a place she loved, and a place where we shared countless many happy memories with her. My father and I just had our last meal at Jesse's before I move out of the Upper Valley, to be closer to my family. It was excellent in all respects, as it's always been. I'm going to miss Jesse's so, so much. And I'm so incredibly grateful for all the amazing people who work there, who have given us so many amazing meals, and so many beautiful memories, over all the years. I'll be back again, but I'm still going to miss it so, so much. I love Jesse's, and so did my wife, Madeline. Jesse's is more than a restaurant. Much more. It's home.
