It's funny because this is a primarily Polish and Latino area, so having Asian food and I mean an actually nice restaurant with quality service and food, unlike most of the Chinese places in the area which are all run down and filthy. I love going here for dinner after going to church at St. Ferdinand parish. It is a medium sized restaurant. Has clean tables and bathrooms. Waiters take your order quickly, but it is very busy here so it may take 20-30 minutes for your order to arrive. I love the beef lo mein, fish with black bean sauce, mapo tofu, and Korean style ribs. I feel that quality goes down when they have a massive menu with options from four to five different countries. But Jess Cafe seems to have figured it out. They were very welcoming during the takeout process and quoted me about 30 minutes. About 15 minutes in, they gave me a call and said that our food was ready! I've never received a call like this before. Truly great service. Their menu is huge so it makes it really hard to make a decision. My wife was craving Pad se ew, and I had asked if they could make drunken noodles since it wasn't on the menu. I honestly didn't think it would be an issue, but they politely said they couldn't. I feel that's it's basically the same thing as pad se ew, except spicy instead of sweet and a couple of other ingredients. But unfortunately they couldn't. I was not a big fan of pad se ew. My wife always orders this at the Thai places, and I always get a bite. It has always been on the sweeter side with a lot of flavors. Something Jess cafes version was lacking. Luckily I never order pad se ew so I wouldn't have to worry about that in the future. I ordered the Korean beef over rice and was delicious. The beef was very tender and sweet and tasted great with the rice. I would definitely order this again. It came with onions a mushrooms, never been a fan of mushrooms but these tasted great. I've been eating at Jess Cafe for years and I'm glad nothing has changed. I never have issues finding free parking on the street. Plenty of seating and service is good. The menu is huge and they have a variety of Asian options from Filipino to Chinese dishes. Their portions are big and are great for family-style lunches and dinner. Some dishes that are my go-tos include: Walnut Shrimp, Beef Cubes in Tomato Rice and Salt & Pepper Fried Calamari. After your meal, you definitely can't skip out on their bubble tea. I've heard positive things about this restaurant for some time now but it's not super close and we have two regulars we already love. But they're both closed Mondays so we thought we'd give this place a try. I don't see what people love about it. The only thing decent was the fried rice. We got Mongolian beef and orange chicken. BOTH so insanely hot. It says spicy but our tongues were on fire, especially with the "orange chicken" we couldn't even taste any orange in it. It was so hot. We also got a side of fried noddles and they were soo deep fried and crunchy. Ive never had them like that from anywhere else. It was also way to expensive. For two meals, fried rice and a side of pan noodles $70. We normally pay around $40 at other regular spots. We figured it must be really good if it's so expensive. Well we learned our lesson. My wife teaches close by, but we never tried this establishment. We came in for an early dinner and we were not disappointed. The restaurant has a huge selection of Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese, etc. and my wife had the Beef Chow Fun and I ordered the Chicken with Won Ton soup. When our order arrived, the portions were gigantic. The Chow Fun's Beef was tender and it was accompanied with a large amounts of baby Bok Toy, really DELICIOUS. The Chicken Won Ton soup had chopped chicken added to the broth with the won tons and was harty and tasty. We could have honestly just shared a single order and we ended taking most of it home. one of my favorite pan-asian spots in chicago! the food is always so delicious and fresh, i've gotten it delivered, picked it up, and sat in and every time it's fire. it seems to be family owned, as sometimes there are kids/teens taking my order or serving me, which I love supporting! very attentive and quick to bring the food. if you come, don't miss out on the smoothies. my girlfriend and I will sometimes even come just for the smoothies. they are made with fresh fruit that you see them blend and make right in front of of you. they are so good! The only thing "cafe-ish" here is the size of the restaurant. It's not that big. Been here about 3 times and everything that I've gotten has been delicious. One of my favorite things on the menu is the salt & pepper spicy callamari. Perfectly battered and fried and seasoned to perfection with a hint of jalapeno. The best thing about it is that it's all tentacles, my favorite part of the squid. They have everything from Filipino street food, Korean kimchi, Chinese fried rice, anything and everything that you love that's Asian. Also, everything is cooked to order. So it's fresh and hot of the stove. So give at least 20 minutes for your main dish to come. If you're in a hurry I suggest calling in your order and just doing carry out.
