This is a New Brunswick staple that I will always love. I went out of my way to go and pick up a turkey and provolone sub after about a year of not having done so. I will say that I was surprised. The place was almost empty and there was no line. I had never seen it that way before. Anyways, my sandwich was still delicious. I had to ask for more onions and the last time I had one from here, it had much more turkey on it. But delicious nonetheless. I'll always love it. read more

Jersey Subs - Turkey and provolone w/ everything on it - Delis Near Me - New Brunswick, New Jersey

I've been trying to get to Jersey Subs when in town, but one thing prevented it until now: They are not open on the weekends and only until open until 5PM on weekdays. Interior is nice and the place feels a little retro. It was a quiet morning when I visited and I received prompt service. Menu consists of breakfast items, subs/sandwiches, and soups. I ordered a bacon, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwich which was only $5. It was tasty and reasonably sized. Friend had me pick her up a Jersey Super, and her comment was simply "It was ok." When I get back here again, the breakfast platter and soup menu both caught my attention as something worth trying. read more

Forget the food for a second - when you get to the spot to order, and you see George Carlin leaving a signed photo on the wall thanking the crew for a sub, you have to think it's a winning spot. George doesn't strike me as having been a particularly complimentary type of guy; but at some point years ago he was chowing down in the same spot. The subs are huge and piled high with meat, cheese and toppings. I got the Jersey Best and my wife went with the Turkey sub - both winning combos, both meant to be eaten in multiple sittings. A half sub is more than enough for lunch. So don't let your friend talk you out of checking this spot out. As Carlin said, "think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that." It's clear that quote was about the folks who pass up Jersey Subs! read more

My favorite deli in the downtown. Jersey Subs is right across from my office on Church Street and so I'm here just about every other week grabbing breakfast or lunch from their menu. They always make great subs and soups and now that they have breakfast, I can catch them earlier in the day for a hot bagel & egg sandwich as well. Prices are always good and if you're going to be working in the downtown area of New Brunswick, spots like this are crucial. They have large catering sandwiches as well for sporting events and office lunches with plenty of options that will satisfy even the pickiest of eaters. read more

Not to be confused with the Jersey Mike's chain, this family owned standalone sub shop is a real treat. Located near the heart of downtown New Brunswick, this is easily the best spot for subs in the area. Having been to a number of quality sub shops around Jersey: Tastee's, Big Wally's, Riddle & Martin, I can say this easily ranks in the top 5 on my list. The meats are piled high, the bread is soft and not stale, the veggies are fresh and crisp and they got all the toppings right. I had past by this place many a time and boy to I regret waiting so long to try it. Amazing food, will be back soon. read more

loved the freshness of my subs, and will be back for more. clean, quick and precise. great service too!

Perfect lunch spot in town. Breakfast all day, friendly and fast service. Reasonable prices.

I just happened to begin working in town and my co-workers had this place on their rotation before I even started. It's very good and consistent. I have been here about 4-5 times since I started over the past few months. There is a very nice selection of subs that range from Italian to American to Veggie. They offer wraps, white and whole wheat bread, which is nice. The bread is fresh and the meat and cheese is sliced in front of you fresh. I have stuck with turkey clubs and turkey ham subs. The shop is located in downtown New Brunswick and at lunch time it gets busy. Prices are very reasonable and service is always good and friendly. Plenty of places to sit and eat there if you desire. read more

I only come here for the tuna. Weird, I know when I can make tuna right from a can at home. But then again can't we make all the food that we spend a ton of money on at restaurants ? #questionsIneedanswered. Despite that, their tuna is simply amazing. I don't know but there's just something about it and I'm pretty sure in my many years of existence I have never tasted tuna as delicious as the one that they serve here at Jersey Subs. Take my word, visit and enjoy a bowl of tuna. Of course not just alone either. I always enjoy my tuna with some crackers. Simple, good and allows for the perfect little midday snack/ lunch. The people here are very friendly so I never mind coming in and spending the money. Also, a word to the wise, get there before the lunch crowd because boy does it get packed! read more

Just had Jersey Subs for the first time! It was perfect! Plenty of meat and toppings! The way a sub should be. Made fresh! Keep doing what you're doing! Jersey Mikes could learn a thing or two about how a real sub should be made. read more

Friendly & accommodating staff, vintage decor, delicious sandwiches. I get turkey and cheese though. I haven't tried their pastrami yet and I feel like that's when you really know how good a deli is. It's the pastrami. So I'll be back to update when I'm brave enough to try. Til then, they get five big stars from me. Bread is fresh so good. read more

Most people miss wild, fun parties from college days... Being the pig that I am however, I miss this sub shop. Located a little ways away from college craziness lays hands-down NJ's BEST sub shop! The meats, cheeses, and fresh breads are high quality and tasty. Generous sizes and extremely quick and efficient service during busy lunch hours. It feels like home there; the staff is the same and recognizes the regulars. Always running daily specials whether it be a Reuben, seafood salad, foot long hot dog, etc. along with various soups. Love the cream of chix wild rice. Usually opted for a turkey Reuben with slaw on rye, mmmh. The best here. Definitely stop by for lunch. Warning: they close fairly early and city parking is a pain! read more

Having read great reviews, we drove 15 min from our hotel in the pouring rain and reached 1 min before close. Young associates there had put most condiments inside. But when we entered, they greeted us and asked how they can help rather than saying we are closed. The veggie sub we ordered was delicious and thanks to those associates who diligently put together the sub and then once again put away the condiments read more

This is literally the best sub shop around, bar none. This place has been open since 1969 for a reason - Deli meats are as fresh as it gets, service is lightning fast, and the average half sub costs about 5-6 bucks. I really do mean lightning fast, go any weekday at lunch and you'll find a line that doubles all the way back around. Fear not, Jersey Subs has a super efficient assembly line to get you in and out. Think of the sub version of Seinfeld's Soup Nazi; be prepared to place your order when you're called. Subs are available in wheat and white and you get all extras you could want. My personal favorites are the "Jersey Super" or the Club w/ Bacon. If there has to be a downside it's that they close early (3-4pm). Jersey Subs - Awesome. - Delis Near Me - New Brunswick, New Jersey

Honestly, I'm not really a big fan of subs ... but whenever I'm craving for subs, this is the place! Well actually this is the place other than Subways and Jersey Mike's for me! The place is almost always crowded ... however the line is pretty quick. The staff works fast and efficient to get the line moving. Great subs, great prices, great portion! Try the pastrami with provolone! It's so yummy! Fresh bread, fresh meat! They have a pretty balance meat / bread ratio but I still wish they put a bit more meat on my sandwich. Not their fault tho' .. It's just me, I eat more meat that average people. read more

Hands down the best subs i've ever had in NJ. There's nothing more to say except that I would pay double the price that they currently charge, only because they're consistent in producing an amazing sub every single time. The only problem is that they close early; seriously wish this place was open 24/7. read more

I ordered the Turkey Avocado Salad and a bowl of Black Bean & Sausage soup. The Mrs. had a Tuna Salad sub and a small salad. My salad was solid, ingredients very fresh, plenty of Boars Head turkey, would've appreciated a bit more avocado though. Wifey found her tuna salad sub fresh and acceptable, nothing outstanding, she has had better. Their interpretation of Black Bean and Sausage soup was bland, flavorless, with little to no sausage present, Campbell's has a better version. Give them a go, we can't vouch for the soups, just the subs and salads. Also a nice, clean atmosphere to eat. Bon appetit. read more

I like subs a lot. I did not like these subs. They use red onions, so prepare for some heartburn. I got half a tuna and half a Jersey Best. I got here on a Monday at about 10:30. Tuna is pretty subjective, but to me this tasted like cafeteria food. Honestly, I think this was made way before I got there and picked up some fridge flavor. Really not good. They open at 9:30, so if this was made fresh daily it would not have tasted like that. The Jersey best is supposed to be Cappicola, Prociuttini, Salami & Provolone. It all tasted like boiled ham. Just really muted flavors, and no color differentiation in the cross section at all. Bread is soft. It your options are this or subway, eat here, but otherwise find yourself a different spot. read more

A very popular sub shop on George St. The lines get long however the staff works very quickly and efficiently. Jersey Subs - Delis Near Me - New Brunswick, New Jersey

Walking in, I was a little wary 'cause the place looks just like Subway: green awning & yellow text, laminate tables, assembly line service and half-or-whole sub portions. But thankfully the similarities end there. The meat is sliced to order and is delicious. The default dressing is old-time style sandwich, with shredded lettuce, tomato, oil, vinegar, salt & pepper. Unlike Subway, this stuff is flavorful! Great ratio of meat to other ingredients, and even the half sub is generous in size. Only down side is that the subs don't travel well, so eat it right away! read more

You cannot come to New Jersey, and not have one of these subs. The subs I've had here are without doubt, the BEST I've had in New Jersey. And, when it comes to subs, Jersey makes them best, which says a lot about this place. Jersey Subs blows Subway and Quiznos out of the neighborhood. I believe the place is family owned and operated, and the employees are some of the friendliest people around (you'll meet all of them, since they run it like an assembly line). This restaurant is definitely one of "those places I know", where you get to know the staff, and regular customers. There are many daily specials, a variety of fresh, delicious breads, plenty of Boar's Head meats (as well as tuna, hummus, and fish patties) and cheeses. You can also buy freshly made potato salads, cole slaw, and soups. The servings are quite big, and given that the prices are competitive with Subway, that means a good value for money too! Jersey Subs is only open till around 4PM, since most of their customers working in New Brunswick will be heading home at that point. Since the place is always packed from breakfast to lunch, I'm not surprised that they close as early as they do. read more

BEST subs I've ever had hands down. Jersey Sub staff are all so so SO nice, and the food is out of this world. Everything is made fresh to order and it's a treat to watch the process - pick your bread, pick your meat & cheese, watch them get sliced and piled HIGH on your sandwich. Delicious yellow peppers - oh man I LOVE this place. All of the soups are really good too and vary often, the chili is excellent. The staff as got it down to a science how quickly they work during the lunch rush - so friendly, so yummy. These are the kind of people that would do anything for their loyal customers - I'd be surprised if any sandwich chain could last very long next to these guys. read more

Jersey Subs has long been a staple of New Brunswick, and I'd always eat here before I ate at any of the grease truck-inspired, pizza/sub joints elsewhere on campus. But they're certainly not the best subs in town, and have always been average at best. You'll get a decent sub at a decent price here. No more, no less. But the bar continues to go up all over town, so the incumbents had best start bringing their A-game or their loyal crowd may flock elsewhere. read more

Been coming to Jersey Subs for years now. I don't get to go much because its only open during the week and closes at 4:30pm. So the only way to go is if you're home for a day or working in New Brunswick. This is the only negative about this place. The sandwiches are all delicious and can be put up against best subs in the northeast. I always get the Italian hoagie with everything on it. It seems to get better each time if that's even possible. The greatest part about this place is that no matter how long the line is, you'll be in and out within 5 minutes. They have one of the most efficient processes you'll ever see and the guy who actually cuts the meat and slices the bread is a true pro. You only have to tell him once what you want and he nails it. The rest of the people throw on the toppings, wrap it and its at the register only seconds after you order it. The meat is all fresh and sliced right in front of you. Just awesome. There is no where else in New Brunswick to go for a sandwich. If you do go anywhere else you're wasting your time. Again, its only open Monday - Friday from 9:30 to 4:00, so get here if you can and be prepared to have one of the best sandwiches you''ll ever have. read more

Hugely popular lunch spot. I love the tuna and the Jersey's Best. ...and they're generous with the meat! Not a great place to dine in, but perfect to grab 'n go. Their lunch team is unfathomably efficient (friendly too). They're like a factory assembly line. The guy who works the meat slicer, non-stop, probably has a cyborg Terminator arm. fast, assembly line service and great value for the subs makes jersey subs another add to the lunch rotation. I've tried the basic turkey, egg salad, chicken salad, and chef salad, and all were very good. the chef salad is a great lunch deal, since it comes with more than enough ham, turkey, and cheese to make it very filling. the bread is also very fresh, and there are tons of toppings include hot peppers, sweet peppers, and pickles. the sandwich makers are not stingy but keep the sandwiches balanced. subs are available in half or whole sizes and they frequently feature a special deal of the day. read more

I work within walking distance to Jersey Subs, and on warm Spring and Summer days its a nice walk down to grab a quick sub. I've only seen them at lunch, where there is usually an insane rush and a line that wraps all the way to the back of the restaurant. It moves very quickly, soups are OK....subs are made to order and the quality is good. Definitely worth the visit if you are in the area, the Subway a few blocks down from this place doesn't see anywhere near the volume during the lunch push...guess that speaks volumes. read more

One time, I took the train from NYC down to NB just to eat Jersey Subs in-person and have one for take out. I've been trying to get to this sub shop for quite some time and when I finally got here I was pretty let down. Maybe it's because I was coming off the heals of my first sandwich at Tastee Sub Shop in Edison or maybe it was an off day but the meat seemed dry and thick and the bread was average at best. Given the reviews I should probably go back and give it a second try but since Tastee Sub Shop is more convenient to where I work and (in most people's opinions) much better overall, I can't really justify it. read more

Perfection. If you like subs prepared the correct way with very thin sliced quality meats stacked high on fresh bread with fast and friendly service, this is your spot. Been here a bunch of times for a quick lunch. The subs are made how they should be. Large, meat sliced to order, not too much lettuce and a bunch of fixings available to choose from. Pretty much the opposite of what Subway offers. The only thing I can say that they should change about their subs is the bread. Always seems a tad bit stale. Could be me though. The line during lunch hour can be a little nauseating, but it's something to expect. They have eat in or take out. I usually just do take out since I can't stand sitting at a table that's in the middle of the line. read more

This place is awesome! I went there the second day it opened and they were so friendly and excited to get the place going. I have been there several times and I have never been disappointed. I never go to Subway anymore, since their subs are soggy and gross. This place puts effort into making the subs just the way you want it. If you don't want any of their pre-made subs or want changes on a sub, they will do it. Also, they will let you know of any deals they have (usually a drink comes with your meal, or it was for a small amount more - maybe $1). Great Lunch Spot! They have limited seating downstairs, but they also have quite a bit of space upstairs to relax and eat. Both upstairs and downstairs have TVs. Although, downstairs is rather uncomfortable to sit at if there is a crowd of people around. Excellent staff, excellent food! read more
