There's a well known deli very close to my home, guess what? I like Pumpernickels deli better. Why? It's a few things, most importantly getting greeted when I walk in. Inside is nothing fancy, to the left is the counter and to the right is the coffee station. And they make an INCREDIBLE B.E.C. With SPK! The eggs are always cooked perfectly, nice bacon ratio and I like the coffee! That's a 5 star spot in my book. Well, they still have a large following. Quite busy. The service is cheerful and quick. However, the corn beef hash was not as tasty as I recall from prior visits. The recipe use to have home fried potatoes or a red potato now it has the stringy hash brown which changed the texture and taste. We were truly disappointed. Sometimes, it's just not worth it to change a recipe if it's not better than the original. I think we will come again and maybe try something else. Today we left not as happy with our choice from the menu.

The woman behind the counter was very helpful with her explanation of the various cheese offerings. I was able to find a delicious cheese, Truffle Crème Brie Petite - Marin French. Not a catastrophe but she was looking forward to penne. Then - my son's friend put some ketchup on his plate for his fries. It was ,.. not red but brown. The bottle had an 8/25 expiration. We are in April 2026. We told the server and she said it's because it's the "simply ketchup" with no artificial dyes. She offered him ketchup packets "with fake dyes" but by that point he lost his appetite for fries. We grabbed ketchup from another table, same brand, Heinz Simply. You can see the difference in color. We showed the server and she acted annoyed. I told her we didn't want anyone getting sick on that ketchup and pointed out the expiration date. She rolled her eyes and said "oh I'll just throw it away." She kind of had an attitude and didn't even apologize. So that's why 4 stars. We'd go back but request not to have that server.
