    They don't even sell jerseys
    Fox E.

Michael Jordan and Michael Irvin always used to give me their jerseys every time they played. I called them my Jersey Mikes. Located out in the suburbs of Madison Heights, in one of the fancy rich parts of the Detroit area, you will find these sandwiches which are rated right about where they should be but usually people will give much higher ratings to Sub Shops - and the reason why the Detroit people don't do that in my opinion is because they have these amazing little local pizzerias that make the best subs imaginable so they don't really get turned on as much by really pathetic Subway sandwiches or mediocre Quiznos and Jimmy John's and Jersey Mike's. Having said that these are pretty good sandwiches by anyone else's standards. But not in Detroit. Not where you have the real stuff here. Make no mistake though. They're not bad. Just generic and not up to local sky high standards.

    The Jersey Shore Favorite

I just crushed my very first Jersey Mike's sub and it was almost life changing. I ordered up a regular sized Jersey Shore Favorite...provolone, ham and cappacuolo on a white sub roll. The man behind the sub tried to talk me into their full (jumbo, giant, super freaking huge size?) size but I assure you the regular is enough to satisfy a serious hunger. I almost forgot to mention that they slice all their meats and cheeses fresh to order, while you watch. The whole operation was pretty impressive and kind of methodical which I can totally appreciate. When he finished stacking toppings onto my sandwich he passed it to a young lady to cut and wrap...it must've stood 4-5" tall before she wrapped it, bagged it and even put a little twist in the bag to keep it all cozy. Service was fantastic, the store was clean and bright, and the staff was even a little chatty, asking me about my big plans for the Saturday evening. I also noticed the franchise owner out on the dining floor talking to customers which impressed me that much more. This is a solid joint that serves solid sandwiches. Fresh, fresh, fresh, pretty fast and friendly, and mighty tasty.

Jersey Mike's is one of my Favorite sub shops. I have been to about four different locations, and as far as experience, it was consistent across locations. The staff is always super helpful and friendly, and the food is delicious. My goto cold sub is the #13 The Original Italian and, of course, Mike's Way. At this location, I had the #43 Chipotle Cheese Steak. It was delicious.

I have really been wanting to try this place and when I saw they were putting one near my work I got as giddy as a schoolgirl. This location popped up super fast too. From the time they broke ground until they opened it seemed like it had only been a few months. As today is their second day being open I knew there would be a wait. I didn't expect that wait to be 45 minutes from the time I got in line to the time I paid and received my sammich though. I will chalk that up to growing pains. I ordered the Chipotle Cheese Steak (Giant) plus Mushrooms and it was by far the best Cheese Steak I have had. It was super gooey, yet not messy to eat which I had anticipated it to be. Flavor wise it all just gelled together real well. And the term "Giant" is definitely fitting regarding its size and was worth the $11 I spent for it. I'd give the place a perfect rating, but the wait being as long as it was took away from it a bit. Also one of the guys there working the register thought he was being funny making fun of a lady who didn't hear him call her order out, but it actually came off a bit rude. The place was super noisy with all of the people and the radio going so it was pretty easy for the lady to miss her order when it was called out. I will definitely go back, but will give it a few weeks to die down and also when their online ordering system is up and running.

    Still busy and going strong!

Wow. This place was great! I went here on Wednesday when they first opened. I wanted to leave a review that day but I couldn't find them on here for some reason. So I apologize for my late posting. I loved how even though there was a line out of the door that everything still ran so incredibly smooth. They bake there bread fresh every morning. The menu is easy to read and understand. I had a sub in a tub. The chipotle cheesesteak in a tub. Pretty much it is exactly like the sub but no bun! So that works for a lot of Gluten Free customers! The manager came around to everyone and explained how everything worked. Just tell them the number and that's all you need to do! Okay! I was so excited. I went to work and everyone was asking me about it. I told them to go and check it out! Truly delicious. Almost 3/4 of the staff here went across the street and almost all of them loved it! Good job Jersey Mike's! Hopefully you continue with your winning streak and you will probably get the most business out of and restaurant around here!

And the primary reason was their ah-mazing banh mi sandwiches. IMHO, the best in the entire city!!! The majority of the square footage at New Saigon Market is dedicated to the grocery portion of the business. There are aisles of Asian goods such as sauces, instant noodles, a refrigerated section of produce, and a freezer case of all types of dumplings, meats, etc. There was also a fun display of figurines near the window, including a Pikachu, which I purchased for my niece. Using both the Yelp app and recommendations from locals, they told me this place serves up legit and surprisingly, bargain priced Viet sammiches. When you walk in, the kitchen portion is near the registers. After perusing the menu, I ordered a number one combo and a chicken, since the roasted pork was sold out (boo!). And I was SHOCKED that in 2024, you can still find a banh mi for $5. In the DC area, you can't find one priced for less than $8.00!!! Tip: you can order your banh mi's either toasted or untoasted. Get the toasted. After approximately 5 minutes a friendly worker came out and presented the number one banh mi, in a foil wrapper. My chicken was not toasted so it was in a plastic bag. I couldn't wait, so I unwrapped the number one combo and literally DEVOURED it in the parking lot. The bread (which they make on premises) was toasty outside, yet had a flaky and soft interior. And while these aren't the biggest sandwiches, there was plenty of meat filling and pickled veggies, with just the right amount of pate smeared. Again, did I mention (as of this review) that it was only $5? They have a special menu on the weekends, so I also stopped by get some Bánh Bò Nướng (Vietnamese honeycomb green cake), Goi Cuong (summer rolls) and the Xôi Mặn (sticky rice with Viet ham and sausage). Everything was delicious and I walked out for about $20; which again, this would have been at least $10-$15 more in the DC area. If I lived here, I'd be at New Saigon Market several times a week. It's a true hidden local gem. Five well deserved stars!

Before I even got to the food, the restaurant itself made a great first impression. The property is incredibly well maintained inside and out. There's a spacious outdoor patio for Michigan summer days, along with plenty of indoor seating ranging from communal tables for larger groups to individual booths if you're flying solo. It's a thoughtfully designed space that feels welcoming no matter why you're there. Now, let's talk about the food. I'll admit something that surprised me. I've been to Detroit probably 50 times, and I honestly can't remember ever hearing about a Detroit-style cheesesteak. Judging by the walls covered in awards and accolades, though, it's clearly something they're known for. The sandwich certainly sounds like a winner on paper: ribeye and sirloin, provolone and Swiss cheeses, roasted mushrooms and peppers, caramelized onions, lettuce, tomato, sweet pickled jalapeños, aioli, house-made vinaigrette, all served on a freshly baked sesame roll. I mean... what's not to love? Unfortunately, this is where my experience took a turn. The ingredients themselves are good. The flavors are there. The problem is the execution. The ratios are simply off. The freshly baked roll completely dominates the sandwich, overwhelming everything inside it. The steak gets lost between all that bread, and instead of each bite showcasing the beef, cheese, and vegetables working together, the bread becomes the star--and that's not what you want from a cheesesteak. I do want to give credit where it's due. The portions are generous, and I especially appreciated that they take the time to make their own dipping sauces for the fries. Little details like that don't go unnoticed. There are plenty of positives here, and it's easy to see why Detroit 75 Kitchen has earned such a loyal following. But as someone who takes sandwiches seriously, I think this one is technically flawed. A great sandwich is all about balance, and for me, this one never found it. I genuinely wanted to love it. This sandwich lover just couldn't get behind the way it was built.

The restaurant itself has a relatively small foot print where the tables are close together and where there are no frills about this place and definately a tad on the rustic side. Facility aside, this place makes some excellent authentic Mexican street tacos where my El Pastor and Asada taco's were well made, PACKED with meat (no scrimping here) and oh so tasty. Service is quite quick where once seated you get your food within a few minutes making this an excellent spot if you are on the run and looking for a good meal on the quick. Prices are cheap in my opinion where my three taco's and a coke came to just $12. NICE! Two things to note here is that the chips and salsa are not gratis but come at an extra cost and follow up once you get food was non existent in my case. Chips and salsa was not a big deal to me but lack of follow up prevented this business from getting a fifth star. Overall and my minor gripes aside, if you are fan of really good Mexican street taco's than this is a must visit if you are in the area! Now, I ordered a Reuben as a lover of corned beef and sauerkraut. It was delicious and sizeable, a fair portion size for the money as well. The chips were also delicious having gone for the salt, pepper, and onion variety. A solid crunch and bursting with flavor. Among the positives I have two negatives, both of which are not adequate enough to lower their star ranking. Firstly, it took around 20-25 minutes to get our food after ordering. I rarely hold timing against a restaurant as having worked in food, I know lunch rush exists and things happen. To mitigate this (for those in the area) I believe they have an online ordering system, which I would recommend utilizing! Secondly, they do not have indoor seating, so it is a very grab and go type establishment. This is counteracted by the multitude of benches around Royal Oak, though it would be nice to have some amount of seating, especially for those with accessibility needs and those waiting on their food. Overall, Oak House Deli is solid and delicious and I will definitely stop by again when I am in the area!
