traditional bahn mi
Lauren S.

For $5, the bahn mi's are a STEAL!! My friend and I both got the traditional, #1 and it was so light and refreshing. The meat with the pate spread was flavorful, the vegetables were super fresh, and the bread was crispy. I wish I had more meat in mine but can't complain much for the price point. There isn't any seating so we ate in my car :) and I recommend paying in cash so you don't get a credit card fee upcharge.

This place was recommended to my friend and I through another friend for Bahn Mi and it did not disappoint! The price is great for what you're getting which is a fresh sandwich. We got the #1 traditional and drinks which were both yummy. I think the bread was a little tough compared to what I've had before but it didn't take away from the overall sandwich. They ran out of the Fruit Chè that I wanted to try and we came at 8:30pm but I would to love to try that the next time I come!

This is just based on my first time here, FWIW Cute market, fair prices with a good selection of Vietnamese food and drinks I went in to try their banh mi as I've heard from many that theirs are the best!! I ordered the #1, traditional one, and it was good but I can't say it was the best one I've ever had?! It's a value tho as only $5 I'd definitely go back but I'm trying #2 next, pork one

Started hearing a lot of Yuzz (Yelp Buzz) about Saigon Market and their tasty Banh Mi Sandwiches. Then I noticed that I had already bookmarked it a while ago, so I moved it to my short list! We had Sushi for my wife's birthday yesterday so today was my birthday choice. Today being also Easter limited choices because so many places are closed. It came down to 99¢ Koneys or Vietnamese Banh Mi and, with a little nudge from my wife, I picked Saigon Market. We had been by here many times before and thought it was just another Asian Market. But then came the reviews for the sandwiches. We pulled into the one-way parking along the front, and found it fairly busy but still some parking spots open. So we parked, grabbed masks and gloves for Covid19, and entered. As soon as we entered, we saw the window for ordering the sandwiches to our left and the market off to the right. We decided to browse through the market first, and we started an aisle-by-aisle tour. We found many interesting things, and picked out a few items including Ginger Honey Tea and Fish Sauce (I was getting low on this). The people working there were very helpful, friendly, and answered our questions about the items for sale. Then we went to the window and ordered two Grilled Chicken, one Grilled Pork, and one Traditional Banh Mi. There were several items wrapped in Banana Leaf that we were told had Banana and Sticky Rice; so we took one of those as well. We then headed home to enjoy our feast. We laid everything out and then made the Ginger Honey Tea to have with our meal; it was delicious and a little punchy. Then I cut the Traditional and Grilled Pork in half to split. Traditional was good but I liked the Grilled Pork better. The home-made bread was fresh and crunchy -- which reminded us of an authentic French baguette -- and really made the difference. At this point we were both comfortably full so we took a break and enjoyed our tea and the Banana Sticky Rice Packet which was delicious! After a nap, we came back for the finale: the Grilled Chicken Banh Mi. I'd have to agree with many other Yelpers that the Chicken is probably our favorite! And the price of $4 each makes any of these sandwiches a total winner.

Such a cute mom and pop market. It's usually just the owners there I believe. Been around forever. They have a good variety I would say with produce. Not like Kim nhung. But the veggies seem really good quality. I've been going here since I was a little kid. Not much has changed. I really only go here if I want banh mi now. I don't normally go here for groceries. Maybe I should start. I've only had their chicken banh mi so far. They give a perfect portion of meat. Their chicken has like a bbq grill kind of taste to it. I think I prefer traditional banh mi. I wish they had more variety with meats. Especially since Le banh mi is gone.

Oh man ... huge props to Erik M. for suggesting this place. I'm eating one of the sandwiches as I write this. I started my pho / banh mi voyage this past Saturday at Que Huong across the street, and he suggested I try out Saigon Market for banh mi. (actually, I'm not a banh mi newbie, so I suppose it was just a pho voyage ...) I was seeing a movie at AMC John R today and so I decided to venture down to Saigon Market (13/John R area) to try out the banh mi. They are $4 each and they have both a regular board and a "gringo" board (English translations). The four varieties are traditional, pork, chicken, and fish, and I got one traditional and one pork to go. Minus a 1/2 star for them adding jalapenos (I asked for no jalapenos and now my mouth is on fire, again ...) but I'm eating it now and it's REALLY good. The cashier (owner? he greeted me when I arrived) said they make everything in-house, including the bread. Nom. Definitely recommend for your banh mi needs! The sandwiches seemed a bit bigger than Que Huong's, too, and are only $4.

Super nice guy running the cash register. This is actually a fun store to check out all of the different food offerings in the freezer. They have lots of different size cooking pots, ceramic bowls of all sizes, mixing bowls, knives for anything and everything, serving and cooking utensils, seasoning packets for soups or whatever. Teas galore, even some ginger and honey tea pods. Special offerings for the spiritual side, if you are so inclined. I would need a good hour to really go up and down each aisle and really check out everything in every nook and cranny of this store. They sell a varied amount of ingredients and whatever you need for cooking. Even their portable gas stoves are reasonably priced here.

I haven't really bought anything from the grocery store. I come here mainly to get the $4 bánh mì. This is one of the best places for take-out bánh mì. It usually takes around five minutes and you pay at the cash register. Love the cilantro and other veggies packed into the crispy toasted baguette. So much tastier and healthier than drive-thru fast food. Bring cash because there is a small charge for using a credit card at this grocery store. There was an unhappy customer in front of me complaining about this fee.

We called ahead to make sure they were still selling their banh mi during the pandemic. Last I checked they usually stop selling their sandwiches around 5pm. We got to the market right around noon and ordered 2 of the traditional and 2 of the grilled pork banh mi to-go (only $4 each). We liked the traditional way more than the grilled pork. Grilled pork didn't live up to my expectations. It didn't have a grilled taste and the meat wasn't juicy enough. The traditional was much better. They pate was nice and salty and their pickled veggies tasted fresh. The best part of their sandwiches is their bread. The house made baguettes were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Nothing will beat the fresh bread here! I've been back a few other times and each time, their traditional banh mi does not disappoint. This place is officially my go to place for Vietnamese sandwiches.

Fresh rolls w/fresh greens, rice noodles, egg, dried shrimp flakes & dried meat strips. Rice roll with bananas & coconut cream ‼

I stop in from time to time but forget to leave a review. Well, today review not forgotten as I left with some familiar and unfamiliar items. Delicious selection of assorted freshly prepared foods!!! Entrees, appetizers, snacks and desserts. Not sure if only available Friday-Sunday as I only stop in on the weekends. There is a really nice picture menu poster that includes prices. Items not on the poster that I wanted to purchase were easily explained to me.

This will be short. Prepared shrimp Spring roll sitting out at room temperature by hot food part of the small store. Aimed at the Vietnamese restaurants and people who know what they are looking for. NEVER had any one ask if I needed help. Small store stuffed full of too many products.

They have an extensive menu to include vegetarian options which was nice to see. They also have many local brands to include chips, sodas, and other small local business products (caramelized nuts, baked goods, etc.)! On the topic of local businesses, they also had a board which allowed local owners to post business cards and event alerts, fantastic for drawing the community together. Now, I ordered a Reuben as a lover of corned beef and sauerkraut. It was delicious and sizeable, a fair portion size for the money as well. The chips were also delicious having gone for the salt, pepper, and onion variety. A solid crunch and bursting with flavor. Among the positives I have two negatives, both of which are not adequate enough to lower their star ranking. Firstly, it took around 20-25 minutes to get our food after ordering. I rarely hold timing against a restaurant as having worked in food, I know lunch rush exists and things happen. To mitigate this (for those in the area) I believe they have an online ordering system, which I would recommend utilizing! Secondly, they do not have indoor seating, so it is a very grab and go type establishment. This is counteracted by the multitude of benches around Royal Oak, though it would be nice to have some amount of seating, especially for those with accessibility needs and those waiting on their food. Overall, Oak House Deli is solid and delicious and I will definitely stop by again when I am in the area!

Remember: Bring cash! Used a card, and the cashier had to type it in manually (it was nice of them to do that). Now for the food - We got a few meats--turkey pastrami, corned beef and a "wildcard" (I let the staff pick, and whatever it was it was good). We also got the special spices etc. I do prefer a more of an Italian sandwich on a hard roll, so I'm not sure the soft onion roll is for me. If you like a cold sandwich un-toasted and generally basic with a bit of a twist, you will love this! My husband and I enjoyed the sandwich (split it, and they put mayo on half at my request). It's a charming spot, quality food and I'm glad we tried it. Skip the spicy potato salad. It was bland, sadly.

I had the 2 meats (turkey and turkey pastrami) with everything sans pickles plus love spice on an onion roll. I'm beyond satisfied and it was divine! The price was reasonable for a deli sandwich at $10 before tax and 4% card fee. I usually go for corned beef at the deli, but this was a leaner yet equally tasty option in an attempt to be more health conscious. Needless to say, I'll be back! Thanks, ladies!
