Mini #5 fixed up Mike's way. Don't let the mini size fool you ...it's plenty filling

This University location is OPEN (not closed as mentioned by another yelper) . This is my go to Jersey Mike'; I come here often. Subs made with fresh ingredients , meat sliced to order, and dressed "Mike's way" ( everything including the oil/red wine vinegar & seasoning) ... Just the way I like it. Sometimes I switch up and get the sub in a tub (a.k.a. salad) which is any cold sub # w/o the bread. Better than other sub places IMHO.

As far as sandwich shops go, I've been a fan of Jersey Mike's as a chain. They are known for making a great sandwich with fresh ingredients, and are way better than a place like Subway or Jimmy John's. I've been to three other locations multiple times and have been satisfied with the consistency across those three. Since they are a chain, there is some information that applies to all locations: They offer a simple menu: subs and wraps in various sizes. A mini is 4 inches and will be around $5.45, but is only available for the cold sub options. All the regulars will be 7-8 inches and will run $7-8 no matter what sub you choose and I appreciate that there isn't a huge variance in price for the same size, no matter what you're putting on it. The giant will be twice that. Bread options include white, wheat and rosemary parmesan. Chips, cookies, brownies and drinks are all separate of course. Chips are $1.19 and drinks range, but are mostly under $2. All locations offer online ordering and catering as well. Mike's Way is onions, tomatoes, olive oil, salt, lettuce, red wine vinegar and oregano. That combo is amazing. This location has been open for a couple of months and appears to be taking some cost cutting measures that make a great meal, just okay. I can't be sure if this is a result of over ordering supplies because they thought they would be busier, or if this is their new norm. The sandwiches were slapped together, with my mini being a complete wreck and rolled with all the extra lettuce surrounding it. The giant my husband ordered was a little neater. Neither of the sandwiches were cut all the way through and we had to do the rest of the work. My sandwich came with lots of onions despite me asking for none, and the employee repeating it. The ratio of Mike's Way was off, resulting in a less flavorful sandwich. These were the things that initially made me think they were still learning the job. The veggies were visibly not as fresh as I am used to at other locations. The lettuce was wilting and the tomatoes were soggy. The bread was not nearly as soft as I'm used to and the top of my rosemary parmesan scraped up the roof of my mouth. That started to make me suspicious- you can tell the bread has been sitting too long when you cut it and you can visually tell when veggies are no longer optimally fresh. They won't give you any bags unless you specifically request it, yet they are definitely trained in upselling. That's a sign of the type of training they received. For me, the thing that pulled it all together, was the soda machine. I do not drink soda during the week, so to indulge on a weekday, I was pretty disappointed that it tasted like the Dr. Pepper was going out. I split the soda with my husband and we decided to get Pepsi instead for the refill. When it tasted exactly the same, it became really clear that they changed the syrup ratio to save money. This affects the flavor drastically, but leaves just enough sugar in there to not complain to the employees. I hadn't seen that trick in many years. Suddenly, all the other things that were different from other locations made way more sense! There were plenty of employees there for mid afternoon, so it doesn't appear they are cutting labor costs yet. Most businesses will increase breaks or send someone home early before sacrificing quality. Two of the employees were playing on their phones, but behind the counter, so not on break. The staff is polite enough and if you've never been to another location, it's still a decent sandwich that is way better than Subway. Their sizes are larger, the meats and cheeses were still good, overall it was an okay experience. However, knowing what the chain normally delivers, I am disappointed in the watered down version. I think I'll give them a few months to decide what kind of location they want to be and then give them another try. For now, they are okay.

It's still a big deal to find modestly priced high-quality burgers served super fast. This isn't your Mickey D's or those five dudes or even that burger royalty. In-N-Out is simply awesome and they now have some 40 locations across Texas. Mrs. K. and I stopped in because I saw the big neon sign tower from the highway and could not resist. After parking (because the Sprinter won't fit in their drive through), I ordered at the counter. it was busy at 6:30pm on a weekday so it did take about ten minutes before my number was called. That gave Mrs. K. enough time to drain a first cup of sweet tea and send me for a refill. I picked up my burger and brought it back to the table. A "double double" which comes with two burger patties and two slices of cheese plus the other great stuff, along with a small basket of fries. Mrs. K. isn't eating meat these days so while I enjoyed the heck out of this hot and delicious burger, she consumed about half of the fries. A couple of things to keep in mind, that I had forgotten. In-N-Out has a great secret menu. You can order our burger "animal style" which adds mustard grilled beef, extra pickles, extra grilled onions and extra sauce (it's like Thousand-Island dressing). And I forgot that In-N-Out does their fries a little light - I have to remember to ask for them well done for crispy fries. Next time! [Review 413 of 2026 - 722 in Texas - 25596 overall]

I get the double double protein burger, which is 2 patties and 2 slices of American cheese, sliced tomato, pickles and their special sauce wrapped in lettuce - totally awesome. My hubby gets a double double and fries. I'm waiting for In-N-Out to come to Oklahoma City. Meanwhile, I'll make the Texas Drive. Excellent customer service reasonable prices.
