Plantain

I went to Jerk Masters on Poole Rd., in Raleigh. I ordered the curry shrimp over white rice, cabbage, sweet plantains, and a chicken patties. OMG, soooo good, and they give you plenty of food. My greedy butt ate all of it. Saving the Pattie for later. Can I just say, can I take the chef home.

Jerk Masters is putting together some great food at a super good price. As a broke grad student, I appreciated the portion sizes that Jerk Masters has. You're definitely getting your bang for your buck if you get a plate and cabbage for lunch. It'll cost you less than 10 bucks. For my meal, I got the jerk chicken with dark meat and rice and peas as my side. The jerk chicken was seasoned well with their spice blend, the skin was crispy and delicious, AND the meat wasn't dry. The rice was really good but it was definitely kicked up a notch when I added some of their jerk sauce, which by the way is the bees' knees. You gotta put some of that on your chicken. Be careful with how much sauce you use though; If you're not very good with spicy foods, it might be on the spicier/hotter side of foods to eat especially as you keep eating it. I also got their Jamaican beef patty. If you've never had that, it's like a flakey turnover-like pastry stuffed with beef usually that's been spiced and seasoned very well to. The pastry was amazing. The meat wasn't salty and the flaky crust was very. The people are great, and the food is great. Nothing more needs to be said but sefinitely check out this place if you're in that area. It'll be worth your time. Pro tip: if you're unsure if you'll buy something, they will let you test wherever you plan in maybe buying.

The lamb was tender and melted off the bone, the fufu was soft and hearty, and the plantains were scrumptious. The restaurant itself was very very clean, service was fast, and the bathrooms were spotless. I can't understand why it took me so long to try Hady's, but this will quickly become a staple.

We made the trek from the north side of town over and it was worth it. The place is immaculately clean and the menu is an extensive list of cuisine from all over the world. From Jamaica to Ghana and place in between. I know this could be a difficult balance to strike, but it was done well. I ordered the oxtails with rice and peace and plantains. The order was a nice size but I do feel the oxtails portion could have been bigger. Lots of sauce but not a lot of meat. The seasoning on it was very well done. Spicy but not too spicy. Well balanced. I enjoyed it along with my well portioned sides. The person with me got jollof rice and chicken. They said the rice was good and the grilled onion on top of the chicken was perfect. The chicken wasn't to their personal taste but looked well portioned and prepared. They also had a variety of bottled drinks to choose from like mango and hibiscus drinks. I would go back.

The meat really did taste as if it was refried or the grease was old. Definitely wasn't fresh. The macaroni and cheese was just noodles and cheese, no flavor. The yams were stringy. The turkey collards were the only thing I enjoyed. The "cake" was honestly a mini portion of a store bought pound cake. I felt totally ripped off when I could've dinned in elsewhere for a completely different experience for $30. The staff was very nonchalant when I introduced myself as a first time customer asking for suggestions. There aren't many designated soul food places in Raleigh and I feel like this is totally a missed opportunity and it's unfortunate because I drove almost 30 min each way just for them.

Their candied yams are DELICIOUS. I actually got their food 2 days in a row. Lol. The wingettes were not really fresh the first night & neither were the shrimp. I let that go because the yams made up for it. The second night I got a fish sandwich. It was fresh. My son liked their Mac-n-cheese. I will definitely go back!
