Tasting menu part 1
Chandrika R.

Came here with a group of friends for a lovely dinner. I'd been here before, and the menu hasn't changed much from a couple years ago, and it is consistently delicious! Each course was beautifully plated, and the staff was attentive. The dessert was the only course that wasn't fantastic. This was definitely a change from last time, but I'd still go back!

Great experience, incredibly friendly staff, and a fun time over all. I found the deserts to be more interesting than the main courses, perhaps because I've had more Korean savory dishes? Either way, it's worth it to try once but it is a pretty penny. The 8 courses were: - Hwe (bream) - Tartare (salmon) - Scallop - Kkanpungi (octopus) - Jjajangmyeon (noodle) - Australian Wagyu - Citrus (dessert) - Sujeongghwa (dessert) Again, the deserts played with savory, sweet, salty and it was a lot of fun.

This might be the best Korean food I've ever had. Every dish had so much flavor and creativity. The hwe was my favorite way of cold fish and the kimchi with it was incredible. 9.5/10. The salmon tartare had a great texture and tasted good. 8/10. The scallop was cooked perfectly with a crispy top and great sauce. 9/10. The kkanpungi octopus was insane. So flavorful and crispy, almost like honey hot Korean fried chicken. I've never liked octopus this much. 9.8/10. The jjajangmyeon was also great with the bacon, potatoes, and sauce combo. 8/10. The wagyu was really unique too. I loved that it didn't taste like a typical American steak. 9/10. For desserts, the citrus dish was super refreshing. 8/10. The sujeonggwa tasted like apple pie and had really interesting textures. 9/10. The roasted barley cocktail might actually be one of the best cocktails I've ever had. Caramely, citrusy, and you couldn't taste the alcohol at all. 9.8/10. Service was great. Friendly, attentive, and not overbearing. They checked in at the perfect times. The ambiance was dim, elegant, and perfect for a nice dinner. 9/10 vibes.

Jeong elevates Korean flavors through an eight-course tasting menu. The Australian Wagyu was the standout with its tender steak, addictive sauce, and pickled cabbage. The salmon tartare had great texture, and the chilled guksu with octopus was so refreshing and unique that I ordered it again as a separate course. The citrus dessert had three delicious layers and textures that kept getting better with each bite. They also have a great tea selection. I got their Sobacha (buckwheat) tea, which was a nice way to end the meal. Friendly service all around. I am already planning my next visit!

Love the service and ambiance of jeong. The menu is a tasting style menu, so many smaller dishes. Every dish was such a fun play on more traditional dishes that we've had before, and the staff were very knowledgeable on what each dish was. Loved the plating on all of them and you could tell a lot of thought went into every plate. jeong is for sure a special occasions kind of dining experience and would recommend if you're looking for a high end date spot.

Another amazing meal here. I enjoyed everything. Service was friendly and quick. It's chill here. Love their drinks too.

We had anniversary dinner at Jeong when we were visiting Chicago. The food was really good. My girlfriend said the chef was crazy because the food was that good. I could taste the original Korean dish and also the twist the chef gave so we were excited to try the next dish every single time. Drink price was very reasonable and tasted good. The chef said they try to change few dishes on the course every 3-4 month so we'll definitely try again when we visit Chicago. All servers were very friendly and genuine. The whole place is calm and vibey but not to a level where it feels like we have to be silent. We parked at street parking and walked 1-2 mins. 알던 한식 맛 60 새로운 재밌는 맛 40의 퓨전 한식. 맛있고 다음 음식이 뭘까 기대되는 맛.

Jeong is an intimate tasting restaurant serving eight dishes. Every course was explained very thoroughly, although half the time we didn't know the ingredients. Hwe - The first dish was excellent; it was light and had many flavors and textures. Tartare - also amazing but a bit simpler. The crispy pieces added a nice crunch and the white drops were creamy and delicious. Scallop - savory with a rich sauce. The spinach and roe was a nice add-on but I felt like it was missing something. Kkanpungi - this one was very interesting and tasted like a sweet and sour dish. I would've never guessed it was octopus, but it really worked. Jjajangmyeon - this was the only course I really wasn't fond of as the flavors seemed a bit flat. The meal was cooked nicely, though. Australian Wagyu - delicious, tender, and rich. An all-around excellent plate. Citrus - this first dessert course was amazing. Multi-layered with a variety of flavors. The shaved ice had a citrus flavor incorporated in it which I thought was fun. Sujeongghwa - a bit heavier dessert to finish off the night. The ice cream was delicious and paired well with what reminded me of peach cobbler and rice pudding underneath. Overall, a great tasting experience and definitely recommend.

We had a solid experience at Jeong. The interior is clean and minimalist. Reservations were easy to make a week in advance. It's great to have fine dining options that are not in the usual American-Italian-French spectrum. The menu is tasting menu style, and it is paced well. I thought they did a great job elevating traditional Korean flavors, and every dish was a recognizable food. Our favorites were definitely the octopus and desert. We didn't go with the pairing, but opted instead for the makgeolli. The drinks menu is diverse and it was great to order traditional Korean liqueurs as well to accompany the dinner. Unlike some fine dining experiences I've had, Jeong serves genuinely tasty food that makes for a great meal. Docking a star because the wagyu, which felt like it should have been the star course, wasn't really up to standard for us. We may have just received a bad batch, but the wagyu was poorly dry aged as to be overpoweringly funky. Instead of being tender, it was tough, dry, intense almost like beef jerky and completely defeated the point of using wagyu. That was disappointing and none of us in our party opted to finish this dish or take home. In general, I've wanted to try jeong and so happy I did. That being said, not sure I would come back.

Ambiance - modern and intimate Service - exceptional, staff explained each dish and all the dishes came in a timely manner/doesn't feel rushed Food - scallop was cooked to perfection, loveeeeee that they made a sorbet/ice cream with jasmine tea, least favorite was the Australian Wagyu (slightly too "beefy" to my liking)

I've wanted to go to Jeong for a while and finally had a chance to go for my birthday! Overall, the service was great but the food wasn't as good as I was hoping. There were some standout dishes but some fell short of expectations. All of the staff were super nice and we were greeted warmly. I put birthday on my reservation and they immediately wished me a happy birthday upon entering which was super nice. At the end, they even gave me a cupcake made by one of the owners which was so sweet and made my day! For the food, my favorite was definitely the salmon tartare. It was super delicious and the yuja sauce was a great complement. The two desserts were probably my next favorites. The other dishes were all decent, but I thought the wagyu and the scallop were a bit too rich especially when paired with the sauces. Both wagyu and scallop are already pretty fatty/buttery so I think a lighter sauce would've been better. My least favorite was definitely the eomuk - I normally love fish cake but I thought the flavor and texture of the fish cake itself wasn't really good. I did like the sauce it came with though! I'm glad I got to try it once, but I probably won't come back for a while given the price point!

Amazing experience here! The space itself was chic but inviting. The ambiance was warm and sophisticated, ideal for a relaxed yet elevated evening. Our service was exceptional--friendly, knowledgeable, and professional staff. The food was incredible. Each dish was creative and unique, with flavors that were bold yet perfectly balanced. The presentation was artful, making every plate a visual delight. Just as important, the pacing of the meal was spot on--each course arrived with perfect timing, allowing us to fully enjoy every moment without feeling rushed or left waiting. We left the restaurant feeling fully satisfied--neither overstuffed nor still hungry. Every element of the evening felt intentional and thoughtful, and it's clear that great care went into crafting not only the menu but the entire dining experience. Definitely worth every penny!

Are there vegan options on the menu?

They had a pescatarian menu and they had a menu specifically printed for shellfish allergy which I was surprised by. I am not certain they had a vegan menu but maybe give them a call to confirm.

The food was also a hit. The fried chicken nachos were easily one of my favorites and something I would order again. We also tried the huge brunch board, which came loaded with pancakes, waffles, chicken, eggs, potatoes, bacon, fruit and more. It says it feeds up to three people, but the portions were VERY generous and could easily be shared with a group. We also had the smothered potatoes and several cocktails, and everything we tried was good. The drinks were well made and fit the whole Brunch After Dark vibe perfectly. The food overall was simply not good. What made the experience even worse was trying to eat while literally fighting off bees. We were just trying to enjoy our meal and each other's company, but it was nearly impossible to relax and enjoy ourselves with bees constantly around our table. We asked twice if the windows could be closed and received very little help from our waitress. Yet once the party of 11 seated next to us arrived and made the same request, the windows were finally closed. That was extremely frustrating considering we had already asked more than once. I will say the host did her best, and I appreciated her efforts. However, the waitress was not very helpful at all. She was more concerned with the next group coming in then whatbwe were experiencing. And given the poor quality of the food, the bee situation, and the fact that our repeated request was essentially ignored until another party complained, our meal should have been comped--or at the very least, some type of adjustment should have been offered. Instead, we paid $175.40 for a meal and an experience we couldn't even enjoy. I will not be returning.

Everyone enjoyed their drinks and they had a fun menu by the chef and we ordered off of both menus. Drinks were reasonably priced. Bartenders were great and explained what was going on. Also wish I had taken picture of all the drinks.

October 1, 2026 TL;DR: Arbella was this close to a five-star…read moredate-night experience. The atmosphere was fantastic, our server struck the perfect balance between attentive and giving us space, and both cocktails I tried were creative and delicious. The truffle fries were pretty mediocre, but even that wouldn't have stopped me from giving Arbella five stars. What did? Discovering afterward that a 5% "service charge" had been added to the bill. I really dislike this growing practice of restaurants and bars adding percentage-based fees rather than simply pricing their menu accordingly, and it was enough to cost an otherwise excellent experience two stars. Ambiance: 5/5 Arbella absolutely nails the atmosphere. I came here on a date, and it was a great choice for that. The music was good, the lighting and decor created a really intimate vibe, and our booth was comfortable enough that we could settle in and actually enjoy the evening. There was energy in the room without it being so loud or overwhelming that we couldn't have a conversation. Even the menu design and presentation fit the experience. If you're looking for somewhere that feels elevated, interesting, and still comfortable for a date, Arbella definitely checks those boxes. Service: 5/5 Our server was fantastic. This was one of those rare occasions where someone found exactly the right balance between being attentive and not constantly interrupting our date. We never felt forgotten about, but we also had plenty of space to enjoy ourselves and talk. I especially appreciated the recommendations. Whenever we had a question or wanted guidance on what to order, our server was knowledgeable and genuinely helpful rather than simply pushing something on the menu. Excellent service from beginning to end. Drinks & Food: 4/5 The cocktails were easily the highlight. I tried the First You Take The Graham and the Trankilo Melon, and both were really good while also being different enough from what I would normally order to make the experience more memorable. This is exactly what I want from a cocktail bar: drinks that make me curious enough to try something new and then actually deliver. The truffle fries, however, were mid at best. They weren't terrible, but compared with how impressive everything else felt, they were forgettable. I'd absolutely come back for the cocktails, but I'd choose something different to eat next time. About That 5% Service Charge... This is unfortunately where Arbella lost me, and ultimately why I cannot give the experience five stars. I didn't notice until reviewing my bill afterward that a 5% service charge had been added. I strongly dislike this increasingly common practice of restaurants and bars adding percentage-based fees to the bill. If operating costs have increased, I would much rather an establishment incorporate those costs transparently into its menu prices so I know what I'm agreeing to pay when I order. Calling it a "service charge" also creates unnecessary confusion, particularly when customers are still expected to decide what to tip their server. At a cocktail-focused establishment, where you may be ordering multiple drinks throughout an evening rather than paying attention to every line of the check, I think fees like this need to be extremely clear and prominent before ordering, not something a customer discovers afterward. For me, it feels like an extra charge for simply using the establishment in exactly the way it was intended to be used. Overall: 4/5 The frustrating part is that without the service charge, this probably would have been a five-star review. Arbella gave us a genuinely great date night: beautiful atmosphere, excellent service, creative cocktails, and a space I otherwise would have happily recommended and returned to. Instead, that 5% fee left a sour final impression on what had been an excellent evening. It may seem small, but transparency around pricing matters to me. Arbella did so much right that I want to come back, but the service charge is significant enough that I would think twice before doing so.

I want to preface my review with the positives, Londyn was our server & was truly so kind, thorough, and friendly. The restaurant itself is clean & all tables have clear views of the TVs on game days. Now for the room for improvement- the food was very underwhelming. Being from the Chicago area previously, I regularly advocate for the Chicago food scene, and this unfortunately did not meet those standards. We ordered the Brussels sprouts, buffalo cauliflower, wings, and sesame ginger salad: -Brussel sprouts: tasted like they weren't seasoned just air fried and drenched in balsamic dressing -Buffalo cauliflower: soggy, unseasoned, runny buffalo sauce -Wings: PERFECTLY CRISPY, but no flavor (we ordered lemon pepper & buffalo) -Sesame ginger salad: sloppy mix of vegetables tossed in an overly sweet sauce with no sesame or ginger flavor in sight If you're not going to eat, this is probably a great spot, but from a food standpoint, there is room for improvement.

Our drink orders were taken not long after we were seated, and the food and bevvies started to arrive in short order. I got to try way more during my business trip than I did 4 years ago, but regardless, I noted the quality of food that was served remained consistent over the years. Highlights for me included the salmon, Greek village spread, pita bread, chocolate torte, and honey cake. The salmon was so mild and tender, the Greek village spread taster local and refreshing, and the pita bread was seasoned to perfection and hands down the best I've ever had. The desserts were a surprisingly delicious end to the meal. I didn't think I could stomach more food, but somehow I rallied. I don't even like chocolate that well, but the chocolate torte really hit the spot, and the honey cake was a new-to-me decadent dessert. It reminded me of the flavor of honey grahams but in cake form. I've never had anything quite like it and am really glad I got to try it. Coming back to Ema after 4 years was better than I expected. Very hip and trendy, with a great atmosphere and a two-story layout. The upstairs area looked like it would be perfect for larger groups or private gatherings. Unfortunately, the service didn't quite match the atmosphere. We were a party of six and arrived before the big dinner rush, so it wasn't particularly busy when we ordered. Our server was very quiet and not especially engaging. I was seated toward the end of the table, and rather than walking over to take my order or answer questions, she spoke to me from across the table. I personally enjoy being able to have a conversation with my server, especially when I have questions about gluten-free options, and it was awkward trying to communicate across five other people. Our food took approximately 35 minutes to arrive after ordering, which seemed excessive considering how quiet the restaurant was when we placed our order. Interestingly, the staff assisting with clearing tables and refilling water were much friendlier and more personable than our actual server. The GF Fried chicken was good, crispy but lacked flavor. I did not care for the GF waffles, and the syrup was underwhelming. Others enjoyed their meal, the fish and chips and short ribs were well liked. One thing worth mentioning: Yardbird automatically adds a 20% gratuity for parties of six. We all had separate checks, and when paying through the QR code, the payment system also prompted for an additional tip. If you're not paying attention, it would be easy to tip twice, so definitely double-check before submitting payment. The restaurant is on the pricier side, although the portions are generous. Overall, I loved the atmosphere and appreciated having gluten-free options, but the service and overall experience fell a little short of expectations.
