Kitchen and Bath Studios - Contemporary Kitchen designed by a KBS designer

Our designer listened carefully to what we wanted and helped us to formulate our preferences into a plan. Our design goal for our outdated kitchen and dining room space was to open them up visually so that we could create a seamless space from indoors to outdoors. That is exactly what we have with floor to ceiling windows and organic materials that mirror the outdoors. Many people in my neighborhood have used Kitchen and Bath Studios, and all of them have beautiful designs that reflect each family's individual taste.

Chris was our designer and he listened to…read moreeverything we wanted in the design and even helped us put things in the design we didn't think of. I would have Chris design my kitchen again. When the project start we were really happy about the way it was progress. That all came to a halt when we saw how the crew did the electrical work. When all was said and down the electrical stills needs to be redone to make our wall look more pleasing. It took way to long for the individual to rewire the electrical switches. The plumping was also a nightmare. The sink flood 3 times before a master plumber came in and fixed it. He was able to look under the sink and tell what needed to be done. The sink backing up caused water damage to my basement ceiling. The workers also put paper and blue tape on my wooden floors and when they remover the tape it varnish came off with some of the tape. They tried to fix it but my floor looks terrible. Also the crew did not know how to put the transition on the floor between the living room and kitchen. The way they installed it left it a tripping hazard. The project started on 7 Sept and it was finally completed 7 Dec. With all the problems we had with the crew every time I spoke with the project manager I would hear that is with in code and how we do things. I got very tired of hearing that and asked the project manager for the phone number to his supervisor and was told that he doesn't have a supervisor he was the supervisor. Needless to say I would never have this company back in my house for any things else.

She was extremely responsive and helpful throughout the process, reviewing options based on preference/budget and answering numerous questions; she developed a good sense of my taste and the space, making wonderful design suggestions. She also worked with my contractor and kept me posted regarding various issues as they arose. For example, being aware of the cast iron tub I had selected (but not yet ordered), she alerted me to a manufacturing issue and limited stock. I ordered earlier than anticipated based on this, just before the product became significantly back-ordered at both DC area and online retailers. Throughout the process Jessica made me feel like a priority, despite the fact this was likely a very small job/order in comparison to others that she manages. Additionally, as part of my initial renovation planning, I visited area competitors and explored online options. I found the pricing at Somerville Bath & Kitchen Store very competitive; had this not been the case, I still would've chosen SBKS in order to have a reputable local retailer/supplier with wonderful service and excellent product knowledge! They definitely made my renovation more pleasant and less stressful!

So after deciding to save more, we reached out again when we ready and they did honor our original quote. Just to add, I had several places come out - a lot were over budget and some not, but KBR definitely was by far the best, not only did they listen to my budget and kept it under, they also provided drawings/renderings of what it would look like and we loved their vision. Our experience with them once we signed off on the project was wonderful as well. We were quoted about 3-4 weeks and it took about 4 weeks overall (however, after the 3rd week, our kitchen was all installed and were able to use it! They were just finishing up the pantry and other small details). We had a positive experience overall with the management, project manager, contractors etc. They also did call a few times after the project, to make sure everything was going alright and if there was anything that we needed to be fixed, etc. There was a counter that was uneven in one corner, so they did call the counter people and have them adjust it. I am very happy we chose them and our new kitchen looks great! It hadn't been updated since the 1970's so they totally gutted it and remodeled from scratch!

I used KBR to renovate our master bath 8 years ago. I hired them after doing research on multiple…read morecompanies and getting several quotes. I recall having a very easy time working with the project manager (Armagan), but I don't recall him being on site to do much supervision. I basically trusted the crew to do the job correctly. One of the things they did was build a custom shower for us. Right after they finished we had issues with it - specifically, the floor wasn't graded properly so water would sit on the sides. They regraded it and it was slightly better. Then within the year's warranty, they had to come back and redo some of the flooring because water was getting behind the tile and causing it to crack. After that, there weren't any obvious problems, but on occasion when there were some cracks in the grout, water would leak down to the first floor. We dealt with it by caulking and trying not spray water in one direction, but we were afraid there was just constant moisture in the floors that was creating mildew. A few months ago I touched the ceiling and my finger poked right through b/c the drywall had disintegrated. Fast forward to last week - water leaked through the ceiling again, and we had the ceilings opened to see what was happening and now we're in the midst of a major shower rebuild. Apparently they completely did the shower incorrectly. Parts of the shower did not have any Durock (apparently, there is supposed to be a layer of Durock on top of the wood followed by a rubber lining over the surfaces before you lay tile). There are portions of the shower that only had dry wall, or nothing but the wood. Also, where they did have Durock and rubber, apparently it was the wrong order (the rubber was on the wood, with the Durock on top). Also, they painted the ceiling with regular ceiling paint rather than bathroom paint, so it was peeling horribly. So we have to get that redone also. We also suspect they did some of the pipes incorrectly. The bathroom smells like sulphur at random times, and a plumber once told us they were supposed to build a pipe that releases that gas and didn't (hope it's not causing any major damage because we have no idea how to fix that problem without ripping up all the floors). It's so dispiriting to find this out years after a major remodel and all the money spent, only to now spend additional money just to fix a bad job. :(

Once they start the team is dedicated to your project. They finished it well within the time projected. Buddy, who did most of the work on our bathroom, is a rock star. He is skilled, knowledgeable, and was very careful with the work and our home. The rest of the team was likewise terrific and worked together like a well-oiled machine. There were just a few little things that needed tweaking and they came back and took care of theme. The price was more than fair, and better than other bids I received. If you are looking to furnish an empty space, stop what you're doing and at least set up a call…read morewith the Splendid & Swanky team. For background, I have no interest in interior design and have no business spending real money on furniture I know nothing about. But I found myself in a situation where I had nothing for a space that had to be smartly utilized. And I wanted it to be beautiful. Was this really the time to experiment with Pinterest while spending thousands of dollars? & I needed the furniture to last long enough that I wouldn't have to think about this again for a very, very long time. I also needed to buy everything during a pandemic, when everything was delayed... So I turned to an option I never had considered before - hiring interior designers. I had heard great things about this team and wanted to explore sourcing this huge project out to them. It's a pretty simple process. You go to their website and fill out an intake form that introduces yourself and the project. Then they'll sell up a virtual call to meet and discuss your style, and budget. Then they came and looked at the space, took measurements. Then they pitched a proposal. From there you have to make some decisions. They are going to present you with options that may be outside of your budget. This is where we gotta grow up a little and recognize that if you want nice things, this is how much that actually cost. I was happy to increase my original proposed budget to get what I needed. But there were some peices that I wanted to spend less on and they quickly came back with lower priced options. They were very adaptable there. With that, they placed the order! Over the course of the next few months, the furniture started arriving. They work with a contractor who you can hire (through them, they handle all the admin work) who can assemble, hang, etc do all that work for you. They even came over to make sure everything was hung in the right spots. There is a science and art to design that they are factoring into every decision for your space, and it's worth their fee to get all your nice new furniture all in the right place. They look for beauty and functionality in every detail of the space. So now I have this gorgeous dining room [photo provided]. Our guests are blown away whenever they walk even towards the space. It's exactly what I wanted when I described the target ambiance to the team. Beautiful, relaxed, warm, stylish. I can't tell you how happy I am with my experience with Splendid & Swanky and the confidence it brought me about my home. If you're able to, whenever you're able to, hire professionals to do things you can't do well. It'll always be worth it. Here is the proof.
