I had a hole in my living room ceiling and a hole in my garage wall. I searched online and came across Ashburn Painting and Drywall and read the reviews. Even though I had an offer from a company in another town, I decided to support our local businesses. After contacting them I received a quote and scheduled the work. The work in the garage turned out great, but the living room work was not good. It was not flush with the rest of the ceiling and there was a noticeable line about 18 inches long. When I contacted them about it I was told they stand behind their work. They came back out two weeks later to fix it. Low and behold, the line is still there, they never touched it. I've waited two weeks for a follow up call to see if I was happy with the work before I decided to write this review. I did not receive a call. I will now need to call someone else to fix my ceiling.

We would easily rate them 5 stars, save for a few communication missteps along the way. Specifically, there was some confusion around the bathroom mirrors (we expected medicine cabinets), the window frames, and flickering lights. For example, we clearly requested to have the window frame removed and tiled around, but the decision to keep it was made without consulting us because they felt it wouldn't look right. Similarly, when we asked about flickering lights, we were told that a bidet always causes flicker unless a separate line is run. Given the cost of the project, details like that should have been brought to our attention while the lines were actively being run so we could make an informed choice, rather than after the fact. That said, they are great at explaining the reasoning behind their work, and we would certainly hire them again. Our advice to future clients is simply to be extremely explicit about what you want and double-check that every specific detail is written directly into the contract before signing.

So, when we had a water…read moreleak resulting in moderate water damage to 1/4 of the basement and some insurance proceeds, we decided to contact CK&B to revisit the basement layout and modernize things a bit. Primary emphasis was a layout that could evolve over time and recapturing some floorspace. Start to finish was 3-4 weeks. This included tearing out popcorn ceiling, wiring in ~11 new recessed lights, new flooring, new kitchenette, small updates to a guest bathroom, painting all the things (including a chalkboard 1/3 wall) and a redesigned fascia for our fireplace. It also included a "secret room" for the kiddo that Quinn took on as a personal project, as we've been juggling complex medical issues for a few years. Needless to say that resulted in a lot of smiles and it has been getting a ton of use. The plywood in the secret room is 3/4" and we plan to add some rock climbing grips to it in the future. Pearl and Monica were easy to communicate with and any issues (ex: some painting needed to be revisited) were handled promptly. They were very flexible with pricing and really went out of their way to make this work for us.
