WORST HANDYMAN I HAVE EVER ENCOUNTERED…read more Here's what happened... - I asked Gino to do 2 tasks: 1) install an additional shelf in my closet and 2) transform an empty/dead space in my cabinet into a usable cabinet. He said he could do both and would charge me $300 for both tasks - I didn't even negotiate with him as I thought that seemed like a fair price? - For the cabinet I asked Gino to transform the empty space into a cupboard that matches the rest of my cabinets. First off, he asked me to pick up all the wood, plywood, and handles from Home Depot (WHAT!? I have no experience in this!). That should have been my first warning sign, but he insisted I do it. Then, he did a half-ass job of constructing a cabinet that barely even matches the rest - it looks like a 2 year old did it. Lastly, and most infuriatingly, I noticed that he put the cabinet door on backwards - with the brown/rough edge exposed instead of the polished white side facing out!! When I texted Gino to alert him to his mistake, he replied "Paint it white" - how condescending! What an awful handyman to suggest I finish the job for him that he did incorrectly! Pictures of the cabinet and text attached. - For the closet, I currently have 1 shelf installed but want a 2nd above the 1st. Gino drilled 12 halls into the wall and THEN told me he was unable to complete the task because there was metal behind the wall. Seems strange because there's already 1 shelf successfully up, but fine - I understand if it's a safety concern and he doesn't want to complete the task. The part I'm furious about is that he left the 12 drilled holes in my wall that I now have to now patch, sand, and paint!! Picture attached. I told Gino he could not leave my wall like that - and he said he would return another day to fix it - and I requested it be within the next 2 weeks... - Bringing me to my next point, his unprofessional, condescending, and a**hole behavior. I followed up the morning Gino was supposed to return to the finish/fix the job and he replied "In hospital. Bad Reception. Flu and Other symptoms". Ooook ... I texted you, didn't call ... but fine, I'll assume you're telling the truth and so I told him to rest, feel better, and we could regroup the following week. Upon confirmation the following week Gino replied "Can't work for 2-3 weeks. I'm past 60, my body is breaking down. Some faster than others - not sure when I can get back there". So I replied "Sorry to hear you're body is breaking down, but that's not the deal we made ... I paid you $300 for an unfinished job that I expected you to complete within 2 weeks, so I would like you to come back tomorrow or give me an exact date you can return" ... to which he replied: "Listen here little girl. I went there to do a job. And my job did not include painting. You have champagne taste on a beer budget. I'm out. Enough said". WHAT......???? All of these texts are attached. This is unprofessional, rude, and UNREAL - I couldn't believe he had the audacity to say such awful things! - Gino is a conman: he does part of the job, at poor quality under expectations, demands money with the promise that he'll return to finish, and then plays sick or flat out denies to come back. - Gino told me that he used to live in LA and went bankrupt there ... and now I understand why. He'll probably go bankrupt here in DC as well. Moral of the story: DO NOT HIRE THIS MAN - HE IS HORRIFIC. *Gino: I will gladly revise this review if you choose to fix the problems you created at my house or refund my money for an unfinished job. Otherwise this post will remain on your Yelp page to warn others against you.

At the moment Justin is a one-man operation, and as a result he will require more time to complete his job than the big boys (e.g. California Closets when it comes to custom built-ins). The big boys, though, use particle board (whereas Justin uses birch plywood) and farm out the manufacturing operation to a factory to get things cut quick and have a install design (whereas Justin cuts everything himself in his own home, transports it himself and has to do all the alignments himself). I thought I had a civil engineer in my house measuring the curvature of my walls, that is how detailed he is. I asked Justin about what other kinds or work he does. He does all kinds of remodeling, including bathrooms among other things (although he will contracts out the plumbing for example). The big guys generally have a lead time of like 2-3 months. Justin's lead time is probably 1 month or so. He is extremely flexible. Very punctual too. I highly recommend him.

I asked what cabinet distributors they used and she couldn't give me a name, she said they use many. I then asked what the difference would be between getting a particular cabinet color (not knowing what my options were or what would be in stock without a company name), and she said custom vs semi custom are just words and that it's all pretty much custom so it wouldn't make a difference. Upon asking a few more questions, she proceeded to tell me "I'm not sure if you saw, but our company has almost a 5-star review and that's almost unheard of". I didn't know what to make of it, but considering what some of their reviews mentioned, I felt as though we were going to get the same treatment. She said she'd get back to me by Friday with a quote and a visual of the kitchen updates-- it was Tuesday that day. We gave her a call that Friday afternoon to follow up and she insisted that the cabinet company was taking a while and that she'd get back to us by Monday the latest if not over the weekend. We waited and got nothing so my husband called her the following Wednesday without ever hearing from her. She continued to reassure us that she hasn't forgotten about us and that she'd get back to us by Monday for sure. It's now been 21 days and we got no updates or any communication from them. It's clear that this is a pattern for them and I'd advise someone looking to get work done by someone reliable and honest to look elsewhere.

I had a very disappointing experience with Mr. Handyman. I originally contacted them to replace a…read morelock after being referred through Home Depot. They provided an estimate of $2,389.80 and required a deposit of $1,194.90, which I paid. After several visits, they were unable to complete the lock installation. Instead, they later told me the entire door needed to be replaced and sent a new estimate for over $16,000. Replacing the door was never my intention -- I only wanted the lock changed. Since no work was completed and everything remains exactly the same as before, I requested a refund of my deposit. Unfortunately, they refused, saying they would keep the money because they had already attempted the work. I understand companies deserve compensation for their time, but keeping such a large deposit without completing any actual work feels very unfair. I hope they improve their communication, pricing transparency, and customer service in the future.

I made an appointment to have an appraisal to get a bid on doing some drywall work in my house. At…read moreno point did they indicate any appraisal fee whatsoever. They came promptly and had excellent communication prior to arriving to confirm the appointment. Then two days later I checked my email and I've got this bill for $100. Again, I was never told nor agreed to any appraisal fee whatsoever, nor would I because any contractor worth their weight in salt is competitive to earn my business just as the three contractors that gave bids to repave my asphalt driveway. Only one of them earned the contract. And only one of them was paid, not the other two who did not win the contract. That's how reputable contractors operate in every state in the United States. They do an appraisal, give a reasonable bid and then wait to see if their bid won the contract. At no point did she ever mention $100 appraisal fee. I called them to rectify this situation, hoping it was a simple mistake, but instead I got the verbal runaround with the person who answered the phone who then got back on the phone after putting me on hold briefly and told me she was sending me an email which had a link to our conversation where I agreed to this falsified hundred dollars. I checked my link and there was no link to any conversation whatsoever because there was no agreement to do a bid for $100 appraisal fee. Nobody in their right mind would agree to pay a contractor $100 just to give them an appraisal to bid for a contract. If your bid is good and you win the contract you get paid. That's how it works. You don't get paid to come out to somebody's house for five minutes to look and write down a number on a piece of paper. That's not how it works. Very disappointing. Very shotty business practices. These are the kind of shenanigans you expect from a dis reputable company.
