Anyways, I spoke with Chris the GC for TBC. He's a personable guy who gives you answers straight. My fence was damaged from the high winds we encountered a month or so ago. Thus, I needed a new stretch of 113 feet of fence ASAP (that 113 feet of fence was probably put in 25 years ago). I was able to take a photo of the fence, give him the fence length and he shot me an estimate. It was that simple. The gents that TBC subcontracts to build fences are some great guys. They worked their butts off and the quality of that work was OUTSTANDING. I felt no need to make suggestions for improvement during or after the fence build. They cleaned the work site in a surgical manner. They even built extra part of the fence that wasn't part of the estimate because it was necessary to get the job done right (I'm not going to explain...as long as I understand it then that's all that matters). So, TBC is a GO for any folks looking for a good price and quality work to be done. We will be looking to TBC for future work to be done on the interior of the house.

A detailed quote was received, with a payment schedule. A general completion time of 4 weeks was given, as well. Unfortunately, the new HVAC system was being installed at the same time, and ran into issues that caused extra holes in the drywall ceiling in the lower level to need patching, as well as a door trim, wall, etc. This was not the fault of TBC, and I asked for a quote on how much extra this would cost. Once TBC began work, I noticed a few things that concerned me. There were only 2 workers. The two workers that were here only came out for a few hours each day, and only worked in the hall bath. I do not understand why that they couldn't/didn't try to work on more than one thing at a time once the HVAC crews were out of the way. Eventually, they were a week behind. As a result, my kitchen cabinets were delivered a full week before the kitchen was started - and that is when the rain started. Since I have no garage, the cabinets were sitting in my open carport. I sent an email with my concerns. He tried to blame the delay on the "extra" things they had to do: removing the tub, and opening the shower door opening a little in the lower bath. I responded that those things wouldn't take an extra WEEK. I kept asking for a quote to add the painting to the job. After asking several times, he finally replied that his painter was unavailable. I also kept asking for the accessories in the hall bath to get installed - the grab bar/shelves in the bathtub, as well as the towel bars/toilet paper holders, etc. He replied that they typically don't do those things if they aren't the ones painting. I pointed out that the shelves/grab bar in the bathtub area didn't require paint... no reply. The kitchen went beautifully. The cabinets were installed exactly as I had wanted, and the workers did a nice job of getting it done. The microwave was hung rather high, but when I asked for it to be lowered, it sounded like doing so would cause an additional delay... so I gave up. Meanwhile, I had exchanged emails about getting the drywall patches done. A quote of $2000 to do all the work was sent, and I acknowledged that it was fine. Mr. Eckert and I set an appointment to talk about that on May 19th in the afternoon, after I would get home from teaching. That day, I was expecting to sign the agreement to complete the drywall repair. Instead, he announced that they had completed the existing contract, and that they would not be doing the drywall at all. I was SHOCKED. There had been NO indication from him that he would not be doing this. He offered me the name and phone number of other contractors. He asked for final payment, and left. Afterwards, I started looking around and found other things that weren't quite done properly. I wrote a long email. An excerpt is below: ----------------------------------------------------- 1) There were a couple of SMALL areas in the drywall in the kitchen that could have been patched easily. Instead, they just put the base molding in place, right next to them. 2) the counters were left covered in sawdust. There was also sawdust in the cabinets that I had to vacuum out. 3) The areas of the granite backsplash that extend beyond the tile backsplash didn't even get caulking. There is a gap there on the top and sides. 4) *I* had to ask for the quarter round to be installed in the foyer to finish the floor. Yes, it was hidden from view at that time, but shouldn't there have been a "punchlist" somewhere? 5) I asked at least 3 times about getting the shelving in the shower installed. I sent at least 2 emails about it, one indicating that without the grab bar, my son had fallen in the shower and injured himself. Apparently the safety issue didn't matter. You KNOW it's not something *I* am capable of, SHAME ON YOU. 6) The electrical switch cover in the hall bath never got put on. 7)The "stickers" on the glass shower door downstairs were left for me to peel off. --------------------------------------- After I sent this email to him, I realized two other issues: the dishwasher was not screwed in, so when you open the door, it tilts down. And, in the lower level bathroom, no molding was placed at the baseboard. Granted, that was not SPECIFIED in the contract, but it wasn't specified for the kitchen and other bath, either... those little details aren't things that should have to be specified. The bottom line is that while Mr. Eckert's crew technically met his "contractual obligations", they certainly fell very short of doing a thorough job. They didn't "go the extra mile", and they didn't care. He was cool, but professional, in speaking to me, but he definitely wasn't "friendly", even when I tried to be. I am left with a house that still needs work before I can sell it. Details mean a lot to me, and it was clearly something they didn't care about.

His team also installed a door and trim for a closet space that I needed finished. In short, my flooring and carpentry experience with Floorware Interior Works was great! Sasan has a great eye for design and can advise on aesthetics, which I appreciate. His showroom has a wonderful selection of flooring material and I was able to find one that suited my house perfectly. Communication - Excellent and prompt. Sasan communicates clearly via phone or text and will let you know what to expect and when. If I had a question, he was quick in getting back to me. He gave me a call at the end of each project day to check how I felt and if I had any feedback. I very much appreciated how much he cared that my project was done right and to my satisfaction. Quality of work: Again, wonderful. Both the flooring team and the carpentry team were quick and efficient. They always arrived on time and were very polite! Years later, it was time to replace everything, and we wanted a kitchen with a better flow, more space, and better quality cabinets and appliances. Most contractors we contacted simply wanted to replace everything without improving it. Bath Plus Kitchen has actual architects on staff, listened to my list of wants and needs, and then incorporated them. I liked that they change a base price for this, so that I had the option of taking the plans to a different contractor or of using their in-house building crew. We went with their building crew, and we're really happy with how the kitchen turned out. It's so much more open and spacious than before. I have lots of space for working. I upgraded to a powerful stove with a hood, both of which work great. I'm really happy with the quality of the cabinets -- such an upgrade from any I've had before, probably ever. I'm enjoying the little extras that they planned into the kitchen that wouldn't have occurred to me, like dimmers on all of the lights, the quality hardware, touch-sensitive faucet, even the matching wood-panel vent covers and switch plate. The building crew did a very good job keeping the site clean and performing quality work all the way around. Nothing has felt wobbly, looked crooked, or seemed in the slightest bit off. A few negatives: Bath Plus Kitchen is BUSY! We started working on this project in November 2022. We finalized the plans, picked out appliances, and put down a large deposit in early February 2023. Work on our kitchen actually began the second week of July. That's a while to wait! We also had a few communication challenges, like a shifting start date, when to expect the crew to be at our house, and who was responsible for arranging delivery of a few items. It was nothing awful, but worth keeping on top of. Overall, the kitchen looks great and is great to cook in, and I'm excited to have friends over. I think we will enjoy it for many years to come.

We decided to go with Sam after receiving 5-6 quotes ranging from 5k to 25k different in final prices. Sam's quote fell closer to the lower end. It took exactly one month to complete the entire basement. During this time, Sam was always on site and ready to answer any questions necessary. He was reachable by text or phone during almost all hours of the day. I am extremely pleased with the final product. Like almost all major projects, we encountered numerous hiccups but Sam always had an answer and did so with us in mind. He is honest and ethical and I would hire him for any future projects we have.

We had floating laminate floors installed less than 5 years ago and there are major gaps in between…read morethe boards in every room we have. When we first used them, they did a shoddy job and had to call and ask them to come back again to fix some trim and molding. They simply glued trim in between our dining room and kitchen and almost immediately it lifted off. Since then, we've had to nail and fix it several times ourselves. I've lived in homes with floating floors before and never had had the issues that we've had with these. The only reason we went with this company is because the previous owner used them to install the kitchen flooring and wanted to match it. (Which they denied that they installed the kitchen floor when I called recently to ask about all the gaps showing up. I have all the historic emails to prove otherwise.)
